What do companies add that destroys my coils? Since starting to DIY I haven't had to rewick. What's up?

3 points

by dominicaldazeover 8 years ago

Sucralose, sour, and possibly food coloring

Interesting. Another question, why the need to freeze the nicotine concentrate? I have some juices that expire after a year, and they do not need to be in the freezer. I'm assuming mixing the nic with the VG/PG and diluting it does something to help preserve it? That's just a guess, what is actually happening there?

1 points

by ID10-Tover 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

Yes, the higher the concentration, the faster it oxidizes (goes bad).

1 points

by dominicaldazeover 8 years ago

Yes concentrates nicotine spoils more easily than mixed eliquid. And say you don't properly store your nic, now the juice you've made is going to taste bad, or even if it doesn't, your juice won't have the shelf life it should since the nic is already partially oxidized.

plenty of flavors will still destroy your coils just likely without the usual overused sucralose and other additives

cereal milks

i'm talking about the u/enyawreklaw one. there are several versions of it floating around. for some reason it's one of the only cereal milk recipes i haven't tried and i really love heavy AP so i'm gonna give it a go. i have all the ingredients. can anyone tell me or offer an opinion on which version is the best/most updated to the authors wishes?

I'm looking for something to take the place of sugar in a recipe that won't gunk up my coils. Any ideas?

3 points

by chewymidgetover 8 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

Well first off nothing will sweeten the same way sucralose will.

EM or TFA Cotton Candy but will mute the entire mix over time.

FLV Sweetness is a nice sweetener that doesn't seem to mute or gunk.

You could also try Monk Fruit Extract and Erythritol; people seem to like them.

1 points

by ReMaxxUTover 8 years agoTobacconist

I like Pyure (stevia) sweetener for fruit recipes. I mix it 50% with PG and keep it in a 30ml plastic bottle (the factory bottle is useless for dispensing). This 50% dilution is about equivalent in sweetness to TFA Sweetener.

If you get Pyure, be sure to buy only the 1-oz liquid version. The powder version has other ingredients you don't need or want in your juice.

Hey everyone! Here in Italy we have the elite tobacco flavors called La Tabaccheria. If i remeber correctly, they're not synthetic flavor but organic, so they're awesome.

I wanted to know, what other flavours go well with: Virginia, Latakia, Black Cavendish, Maxx Blend and American Blend? Since i vape mainly tobacco, i wanted a liquid that makes me feel the main tobacco flavour but a econdary flavor too.

2 points

by ChemicalBurnVictimover 8 years agoresident tobacco specialist

Virginia and Cavendish should work well with Bourbon, vanilla, or nuts. They are sweeter tobaccos, so that should work. I use my Latakia NET as more of an additive. Throw it in a mix to add a bit of smokiness.

Edit: oh, and Cavendish would probably work with some fruits and stuff if that's what you're in to. Usually aromatic Pipe blends will contain Cavendish.

people who have experience with both cap sugar cookie and rf's new sc sugar cookie- do you think they are interchangable/subbable if the the amounts are adjusted? i am super low on cap's and am going to order more this week but in the meantime i have a shitload of rf's sc from the freebie thing. i have only used it one recipe thus far and it's steeping and i haven't tried it. i feel like it's going to be stronger and a little doughier than cap's so maybe dialing that percentage back on recipes that call for 3-4% of caps? or are they not interchangable at all? i'm just curious. i'm getting more and more to the point where i feel like subbing just does't work in most scenarios.

3 points

by HashSlingingSlashurover 8 years ago

I would say they are not interchangeable. RF is way more of an artificial sugar cookie bordering on cake pop flavor. CAP sugar cookie is more of a workhorse that binds ingredients and kind of blends into things. To me, CAP is not very sugar cookie on its own.

RF SC sugar cookie is going to be a pretty prominent flavor and it won't help recipes the same way that CAP will, especially when the recipe was built with or build around CAP sugar cookie . .. RF is not going to play as nicely with anything you throw at it, the way Cap does. CAP sugar cookie has been used in so many applications and many of those applications do not taste like sugar cookies or cookies at all.. it's a flavor that can easily go into the background and be a supporting player.

For my taste you'd need 8-10% of CAP sugar cookie solo for it to resemble a cookie, if you're looking for a good sugar cookie i would actually look into CAP sugar cookie v2.

if a recipe calls for Cap sugar cookie, no don't use RF. But if you're building something from scratch you could consider both

I highly recommend trying RF sugar cookie by itself and making a decision for yourself.

2 points

by chewymidgetover 8 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

Here is a brief comparison of the two

I would say they aren't interchangeable as they both fit different applications. The biggest reason why I say this is because RF lacks the body that Caps brings.

I've built up a fair collection of concentrates now but I've been sticking to the main go to companies, TFA/TPA, CAP and a couple of inawera flavours. The site I usually buy from has plenty of other brands like Flavour West, one on one flavours, mom's & pops, liquid barn, lorann and mount baker. can anyone vouch for these concentrates or should I stick to the big 3 or 4 brands?

I got a buncha fruits n stuff and first attempted the honeysuckle strapon. Found it to be quite harsh, so i added small percents of marshmallow and vanilla swirl. It is better now, but i dont think im a fan of the honeysuckle. Does the honeysuckle flavor die down at all, or am i stuck with that flowery bit in this batch? Because at this point i wanna experiment with creams in it, but i dont think the honeysuckle is gonna work out here you feel me.

I'm interested in this question, /u/ID10-T , because I found the original strap-on recipe quite dry and harsh as well.

First time I tried it to be honest, I ordered Fuji for your recipe as well as D Cream. I need to try it again, maybe the harshness steeped out? Flavor was good otherwise.

Not really DIY related but thought I'd be cheeky and ask here because I trust the palates here more than ECR, or anywhere else really.

Wanting to explore the world of tobaccos a bit more in DIY but feels like I'm flying a bit too blind just following recipes and not knowing what good tobacco juice should taste like. Also haven't been following commercial ejuice (or even really bought any) for over two years.

So, any recommendations for must-try commercial tobacco juice?

3 points

by ChemicalBurnVictimover 8 years agoresident tobacco specialist

My favorites are from Indigo. The Duke and Eureka are at the top of my list. Eureka is more of an RY4 type of juice though. The only others I can think of that I've tried and really liked were from Truebacco, which are NETs. Besides doing your own NET (not super difficult, but you'll have to let them sit around a while), you could get Concentrates from Stixx Mixx to mix with. I've heard really good things about Uncle Junk John Wayne, Boyd's Bounty, Cloud Alchemist Arrakis, Rocket Fuel Reaper, and probably a lot of others that are probably great, but I've never tried.

I'm trying to produce a juice for a friend who has simply said "Raspberry is always good."

After doing a bit of reading around, I'm at:

  • 0.5% INW Cactus
  • 1.0% TFA Dragonfruit
  • 1.5% INW Raspberry (Malina)
  • 3.0% TFA Raspberry (Sweet)

How we looking? :)

Looks great except for a little high on Malina. It will overpower the rest. I would start it really low, .25 or maybe .5% Otherwise that's a good looking combo!

Hi all, despite watching videos etc I'm still confused (probably due to how bad I am at math) on how to make my first DIY eliquid and hope you can help on what I need exactly for this recipe with a pre blended base.

Requirements: Lunch Ladies - Lemon Tart Conclusion will be 70%VG - 30%PG - 3mg nicotine strength to make 100ml bottles at a time.

I want to buy this pre blended recipe: https://flavour-boss.co.uk/product/lunch-ladies-lemon-tart-recipe/

  • What nicotine do I need to buy?
  • To make 100ml bottles of this recipe. How much of the flavour, how much VG, how much PG and how much nicotine?

Many thanks and sorry this may seem simple, but I'l get the hang of it eventually

6 points

by chewymidgetover 8 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

Why don't you just use a juice calculator?

3 points

by skiddlzninjaover 8 years agoThat one moderator. You know, the honey guy.

The product description says mix at 15.5%. I'm not going to insult your intelligence by telling you what 15.5/100 of 100mL is.

PG and VG is in the same boat as flavoring, and I'm not going to tell you what 70/100 nor what 30/100-15.5/100 of 100mL is.

As for the nicotine, buy whatever you want. Get a premixed base if you want something easy, and get concentrated nicotine if you want something cheap.

But the math for the juice is, no joke, the easiest it can possibly be if you're making 100mL bottles.

Hey everyobdy, I love fruity flavors with a bit of mint or cream, can anyone suggest me some good receipes?

2 points

by Zermachtover 8 years ago

I can't really suggest recipes without knowing more but I can suggest concentrates for fruity/creamy as I posted some yesterday. The only mints I really like are CAP Spearmint and Creme de menth.

I'll edit them in one second on mobile.

These are all like, my opinions man.

INW Shisha Vanilla, and Shisha Strawberry, are both amazing, and I hear Shisha Orange is up there as well. Raspberry Molina is sweet( not koncentrat that's a realistic tart)Cactus is a must own, just ridiculously beast.

TFA Strawberry Ripe, Wild Blueberry, Dragon fruit, and Orange Cream are all awesome sweeter concentrates.

CAP Juicy Orange, Juicy Lemon, Golden Pineapple, and I hear Sweet Strawberry are all also great sweet concentrates.

FA has the best Lemon IMO, Lemon Sicily. They also have my favorite cream for fruits Fresh Cream. Other notable beasts are Fuji, and Lime Tahiti

FW has a great Bavarian Creme, Blueberry, and Hazelnut(totally goes great with fruits). Plus my favorite version of Salted Caramel.

RF SC has a great Watermelon, Cucumber, Pistachio(great with Blueberry), and Strawberry.

Almost forgot LorAnns Banana Cream Colorless. My fav banana.

I'd recommend that you start off by picking a small number recipes to mix (preferably with profiles you already know you like in juice,) and buying the flavors for them. You could pick, say, three that appeal to you, and then see what other recipes used those flavors and some others, and get the other flavors to make your order more economical. But until you've mixed at least a bit I think thats the best approach.

I'd also recommend starting with a couple of different profiles- some flavors might just not work for you, even if everyone else loves them. This is actually really common, and I'd be surprised if anyone with a fair number of flavors hadn't found a few they hate (or can't really taste) that most people love. So it's best if your initial two or three recipes are really disjoint, to maximize the chances you'll find one you really like.

  1. what % of LB White Chocolate Peppermint should i try for single flavour mix?

  2. what flavour strength difference between LB and TFA (i understand that each flavour may have different strength, but in general)?

The bottles from LB usually tell you a recommended percentage to use it at. In this case it's 12%.

this recommendation is for a starting point. previously on this sub i read that LB recommendations are different to real flavour strength. in reality it's better to use more or less (but i don't remember what exactly was told about that)

Also, don't use anywhere near the recommended percentage on their website. It's best around 4-6% with a couple drops of sweetener to boost the chocolate. Any higher and the peppermint takes over.

Not as of yet, it's something I've been talking to Queuetue about for a while, but it's a matter of hosting costs vs amount of people who are actually willing to pay for subscription. As of now, the amount of resources required to store and track the amount you have of every flavor for every user is just too high compared to the amount of people who NEED this as a feature in order to pay for a subscription.

What are some good peach, kiwi, watermelon, raspberry and blackberry flavors? Natural, juicy, or jammy, not really candyish. I've been making more bakery/desert type flavors and since its getting nicer out, i want to try the lighter fruitier type vapes for outdoors or at the beach. I've randomly gotten a few of them over the past couple months from Real Flavors and smelling them has got me wanting to mix em, but i find Real Flavors is better if you use them as a starting point, so i need some of the same fruits from other vendors to bring a little nuance to the flavors and make em shine. Thanks in advance!

by bobbysavageover 8 years agoResident Tobacco Specialist

Peach - TFA Juicy Peach is very forgiving

FA Peach and FA White Peach or INW PEach are the next step.

Kiwi - Get FA kiwi not TFA

Watermelon - Go for FA's. to start *edit: then you can try id10-t's strapon recipe if you have apple. TFA's watermelon is more candy like. If you are getting LA Watermelon try to get the clear one without food color. INW's is supposedly pretty decent as well idk though

no experience with raspberry or blackberry flavors though

2 points

by circuitj3rkyover 8 years ago

Thanks! What do you mean by forgiving? It mixes well or it isn't overpowering?

3 points

by bobbysavageover 8 years agoResident Tobacco Specialist

Good question, and you're welcome.

The curve with Juicy Peach is a bit more linear from 3-5%. Its a decent to good tasting flavor depending on your tastes, and works well in a shake n vape. It does irritate some though according to reports, and does have a pretty decent throat hit. There is even a chest irritation thread about it solely i believe. Blending it with some creams can be difficult you might want some of fa's lighter ones but this tastes like gummy peach rings. not too much realistic fruit

INW peach at 3% is really concentrated in my opinion. 2% of INW peach might be way more than you perceive you need and 3-5% percent could be overkill. It also has a brown sugar note to it like I get from TFA brown sugar..

Depending on you gear you might not get into the over kill range with juicy peach until 6% or higher so thats... 1.8ml of flavor in a 30ml compared to half the amount of inw peach. I havent pushed it any higher.

As far as the flavour art peaches if you are that deep in the rabbit hole might as well grab em both. Ppl say they like the white one more some like to blend em i like the straight peach one more. but they both bring different aspects to the table.

i have got to go to sleep though. goodnight and goodluck :]

sidenote havent tried any of medicine flowers but think ive heard good reports however long steep times and small amounts so beginners beware.

I've been mixing for about 8 months now with rather good results. My question has to do with my elements. Now that my taste expectations have got up from mixing I've noticed after several days the flavor starts to nosedive. I have at least three flavors in different tanks to rotate through so I know it's not flavor fatigue. I buy high quality ingredients. No sweeteners or other gunk building additives. My cleito and smok baby beast coils just seem to have a finite amount of good hits before the flavor starts to suffer. I run them pretty low on wattage. In a vane attempt to combat this I started cleaning the coils on flavor switch first in hot water, then everclear , then a 200W ultrasonic. Note I let them dry at least 48 hrs before using them again. Anyone else run into this? Im wondering if I should just bite the bullet and buy a rebuildable. I only have one arm so I'm looking for easy. Ideas? Dripping is a non starter as I have limited hands and pockets.

2 points

by goldfish18over 8 years agoWinner of the 1st DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

Unfortunately sub ohm tanks aren't the best for flavor and are likely the reason you're experiencing lackluster results. Reusing pre built coils after saoking and cleaning them isn't helping either.

Do you have any friends that vape that can help you rebuild an RDA or RTA? I'd be willing to help you out by building for you on an RDA or RTA if you don't have a friend to help. Yeah this might seem sketch, but I'm just trying to offer help.

2 points

by UncleManifestorover 8 years agoMixologist

If you do decide to get an RTA you can buy pre-made coils, so you wont have the trouble of coiling the wire yourself.

Buy both the RTA & the pre-made coils from Fasttech, ultra cheap and good quality (check the reviews first). Shipping times are varied, but it is usually worth the wait. Also if you get some cotton sheets (Muji etc), it is a lot easier to use for wicks than standard cotton balls.

As for which RTA, that will be down to personal preference in terms of capacity, airflow type, aesthetics and desired width.

2 points

by padishar123over 8 years ago

Oh I guess I didn't realize you could buy premade coils. Duh! Most of the reasons I've steered away from them is I haven't a clue what to buy. Could you suggest an rta you have and love? I looked at fasttech but there are so many my head is spinning. I've always thought if I could get good advice on the hardware I could figure out the rebuilding part. Afterall I came up the diy mixing curve to pro techniques and amazing juice in less than three months. Lots of forum reading.

Get a single coil RTA like the serpent mini 22 or serpent mini 25 or the Merlin mini, or geekvape ammit. Easy to install, less fuss than dual coil. All have great flavor

I've been thinking about getting a Panavise to hold atomizer bases when installing new coils. One of those could be a good tool for you.

It would also hold the body of a Coil Master tool while you turned the winder part.

Hello DIY_eJuice. Today will be my first foray into mixing and I'm very excited to dive right in. I've been doing research on DIY for a few months now (including reading most of the materials listed in the sidebar which has been very helpful so thanks for that!) so I don't feel completely lost on how to start but I figured I'd ask anyways. Are there any common mistakes that newbies like myself tend to make despite having a decent grasp on how to start (maybe something I wouldn't have read or valued highly enough from the sidebar lit.)? I'll provide some info that seems relevant.

-I'll be mixing by weight for now

-I got all my liquids (PG/VG/Nic/Flavors) from My Freedom Smokes and everything else (scale, bottles, gloves, pipettes) from Amazon.

-All of my starting flavors are TFA

-I have possible recipes planned but will be starting by taste testing all of flavors individually.

Thanks in advance for any advice!I look forward to visiting here far more often.

A bad habit I formed early on was thinking higher % flavouring would mean more flavour, as well as adding too many flavours. Rather than letting the flavour do the talking, I'd just add more flavouring. I'd end up with juice with little nuance because some flavours would completely overpower everything. It would just be a big hit of cream or a big hit of strawberry or whatever else. Or even worse, everything would get muted to shit. What I've come to find is less is usually more. Simple recipes don't always make simple tasting juice, and likewise complex recipes don't always give complex tasting juice. And remember to have fun, mixing and developing recipes is half the fun.

Yea I might have just done this myself. I just got done mixing up a Tiger's Blood after trying my TFA Coconut Fruit, TFA Ripe Strawberry, and TFA Watermelon as solos. I looked up a popular Tiger's Blood recipe and basically used their percentages but changed which % corresponded to which flavor to make it more to my liking (I prefer a coconut top with a watermelon base and hint of strawberry). I know that really isn't how it works because each flavoring has a different strength of flavor but it actually turned out near exact to the specific Tiger's blood I was attempting to replicate. It might be a bit too strong on the coconut inhale because of the admittedly flawed logic I ran with but I'm still pretty stoked right now. Time to tinker with it.

My first recommendation would be to buy flavorings from other vendors. MFS is a rip off from what I saw. Just compared a few concentrates from TFA and MFS is $2.50 dollars more for a 30ml flavor. Save some money and buy elsewhere.

Good to know! I had a feeling one of the most likely mistakes I made was buying from the second site I visited (first was The broke Vaper which was even more expensive and shipping from Canada was unreasonable for me). I'll definitely do some more research on more DIY vendors starting with the rest of the list in the sidebar.

GremlinDIY, bullcityflavors and ecigexpress are the only ones I shop with.

Another recommendation. Don't stick to just one brand of flavors. TFA has some good ones, and bad ones, just like every other brand. You'll have much better results buying the better options for flavors.

I'm mixing up a bunch of new experiments today, so lots of questions.

Are there any guides to recommended steeping time out there for different flavors? I know tobaccos and custards usually require long steep times, but I'm not sure about a lot of things. Some stuff I'm wondering about:

  • Boozes (Rum, whisky, gin)

  • Cap Cucumber

  • Cap Maple Syrup

  • Various banana flavors (I'm thinking about a week on these)

  • TPA Peanut Butter

  • TPA Champagne

6 points

by chewymidgetover 8 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

The following are estimations. Most flavors will fit into one of these categories. No two flavors are going to be a constant for the rule. Some tobaccos take months some are a shake and vape. Most, but not all, of my mixes never sit more than 3 days because it tastes no different at 3 day compared to 7 days or even more.

Fruits 0-3 days

Creams 0-7 days

Custards 7, 30 or 180 days

Tobaccos - 15, 60 or 180 days

1 points

by JohannesVanDerWhalesover 8 years ago

Thanks, that's really helpful. I'm curious about examples of custards or tobaccos that would require a 180 day steep, though...that seems pretty extreme.

People claim cap vanilla custard reaches its peak at 6 months; same with some tobaccoos. It's not my personal belief but I felt I should add it in.

The only thing I know about TFA peanut butter is what I've read, but it seems to be better before a steep. /r/goobergrapevape is a good place to read about that flavor.

Why is FA more expensive than TPA or CAP? Are FlavorArt's flavours super concentrated? The reason why I am asking is while TPA has been my go to brand so far. I found that I tend to use TPA at higher percentages.

5 points

by EdibleMalfunctionover 8 years agoThat Sugar Cookie Guy

I'll echo u/chewymidget here and say that FA has a greater hand in making flavors specifically for vaping. I'll also recommend you branch out to use multiple brands. Sticking to just one brand isn't wise. They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Thanks for the input. I started DIY only a few months ago. So far, I have about 30 concentrates, mix from TPA, CAP and FW. I am looking at trying some concentrates from FA and Real Flavors SC line.

Strength of their flavors and they do a lot for vaping advocacy to keep it legal. FA is one of the best flavoring companies around.

I was just reading about it and checking out few tobacco recipes but the steeping time of tobacco scares me.

2 points

by ChemicalBurnVictimover 8 years agoresident tobacco specialist

Flavorah are very short steep time. And personally I start digging in after 10 days usually. It may still change a bit after that, but they're usually good enough in the 10-14 day range. But try FLV Native or Cured. Let it steep for a day or two and enjoy.

1 points

by JohannesVanDerWhalesover 8 years ago

TPA RY4 double steeps a lot quicker, but it's also not very tobacco-like, IMO. Still probably best after like two weeks. I've been playing with INW Black for Pipe and Dark for Pipe and they seem pretty good after 3 weeks. Bit of a pain to test recipes but I always have a bunch of recipes steeping at all times, anyway.

by cockadoodleinmyassover 8 years ago

So I just made my first batch of DIY e juice. I might have made a little mistake, though. Ingredients were:

5ml Florida Orange Concentrate (PG)
5ml Blueberry Concentrate (PG)
2.5ml 72ml Liquid Nicotine (PG)
47.5ml Base (30PG/70VG)

3 drops Sweetener (PG)
6 drops Toner/Enhancer (PG)

Here's where I messed up.

So I added the Flavour Concentrates and Liquid Nicotine into a container. Next, I went to add the Base. I added 5ml from a 5ml syringe then realised it would take too long, so added another 10ml from a 10ml syringe. But I realised I hadn't shaken up the Base at all, so I gave it a good shake for 30 seconds or so and then left it to stand until the bubbles had gone. I then added the remaining 32.5ml Base, finishing off with the Sweetener and Toner/Enhancer.

By my calculations, that should give me a final ratio of roughly 45/55 PG/VG: http://i.imgur.com/rzOf1Ie.png though my mistake of not shaking the Base before adding the first 15ml may have thrown that off.

But, having given my final liquid a shake, it's incredibly thick. I've bought premade 20/80 PG/VG liquids in the past and they've never been this thick before. It sticks to the side of the bottle more than any liquid I've previously had. And, looking at it now, 10 minutes after I last gave it a shake, there are hundreds of little bubbles throughout the liquid.

Will the liquid thin out over the next few days in the fridge? Or did I really mess up during the mixing process?

3 points

by Apexifiedover 8 years agoSuckling from the teats of Daenerys Targaryen

Your math looks fine and I can't imagine there could be enough separation in the base to account for the amount of thickness you're perceiving unless your base was actually 100% VG, which would put your final mix around 80/20 VG/PG.

Keeping your liquid in the fridge will increase the viscosity and slow down the steeping process. I wouldn't recommend it at all. A cool dark place, like a cupboard or drawer, is fine and will allow the flavors to better homogenize.

1 points

by cockadoodleinmyassover 8 years ago

Oh. I was told by a friend that has been mixing for a few months now that I should leave it in the fridge ... but if that will slow things down, I've got a drawer set aside for all my vaping supplies so I'll throw it in there.

2 points

by Apexifiedover 8 years agoSuckling from the teats of Daenerys Targaryen

Also you might want to consider getting your VG and PG separately, so that you will have more control over the final ratio. :)

Have you checked out www.diyvaporsupply.com ? I just checked: they DO have Strawberry RF(SC), as well as a good selection of CAP and LA flavor concentrates. Recently mixed TFA flavors. All my first time. I used a pvg base with 6mg nicotine from chemnovatic. After steeping them in a dark room for a week i decided to try my flavors. Green apple candy: ejuice turned blue/purple and was very harsh to vape, flavor almost resembled cardboard. Black currant, grape candy, citrus blast all had a harsh taste and gave my throat and mouth a dry feel. I used 10% for the flavorings and did not add any EM or any other sweetener... can anyone help? Tell me where i went wrong.

3 points

by EdibleMalfunctionover 8 years agoThat Sugar Cookie Guy

Juice should definitely never be turning blue or purple so not really sure about that. Upload a pic so we can see it. Those flavors would probably all benefit from not being used on their own in my opinion. And 10% is probably too much for those.

1 points

by sweswepopover 8 years ago

I disposed of the blue juice, im guessing it was contaminated. Noted. Should i lower the percentage and if so whats a good starting point? And the reason i didn't mix it with other flavors is because i tend to not enjoy savory/pastry flavors (mostly sweet candy or fruit). But i am open to suggestions! Thank you for your reply.

3 points

by EdibleMalfunctionover 8 years agoThat Sugar Cookie Guy

The trick is using flavors that are actually good on their own/with a few complimentary profiles. If you use crappy flavors, you will end up with crappy mixes. I'm looking at you Grape Candy and Green Apple Candy

2 points

by BuryMeInSmokeover 8 years ago

I've had that happen with TFA Green Apple, another user here has also made a post about.

Don't know why it does it but the flavour itself is pretty bad so I never revisited it really.

2 points

Agreed, the flavor was not all that great. Good to hear about the color change. The first 2-3 days the color was clear but then it slowly started changing.

Do some flavourprofiles benefit from a higher wattage/heat? And which ones? Thanks in advance

2 points

by ID10-Tover 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

I've tried a few recipes that seemed to benefit from turning the wattage down from where I'd usually have it - mostly fruit and cream type recipes - but I can't think of any offhand that got better from turning it up.

2 points

by Martijn420over 8 years ago

Really? I'd guess fruit and menthol vapes are satisfied enough with lower wattage. But i thought the thick creamy, cookie vapes would benefit from a higher wattage level.

2 points

by ID10-Tover 8 years agoWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

The bakery things and straight fruits I don't feel the need to turn it down for, but with a lot of creams I do. I mean, hot cream? Yuck. Airflow also makes a difference. I haven't yet met a tobacco vape (admittedly I have less experience with these than with other profiles) that didn't appreciate a little tighter draw.

2 points

I think a lot of it just comes down to personal preference. I usually have my temperature control set to about 500F, but dial it up or down depending on what I'm vaping.

First time ordering for DIY. Ordered a 120ml bottle of 100mg nicotine from Vapertek. Do you always test your nicotine ?

3 points

by lablover666over 8 years ago

are you referring to titration to determine nicotine concentration? I never have. Seems most people don't either. Although it's probably good practice if you find your nicotine is tasting harsh or off and you think there may be an issue.

If you mean mixing a batch with nicotine, pg, and vg with no flavoring, that's probably good to check the quality too. I never do that but I think others do.

1 points

by chewymidgetover 8 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

I never have tested my nicotine either. There's no good reason not to just never have. I've never heard of anyone having an issue with getting higher concentrations of nicotine than what they ordered other than from Nude Nicotine. Not saying it doesn't happen just less likely.

1 points

by ChemicalBurnVictimover 8 years agoresident tobacco specialist

I've also never titrated or done flavorless tests, but I've been using VapersTek nic for the last few months and it's been great. So there's that.

1 points

I always titrate every new batch. Gives me peace of mind I guess. Every batch has always been correct, but I feel better seeing it.

I am of the mindset of "trust, but verify".

Hi everyone. I've recently got into diy. I know I shouldn't try and clone 100% but I have a very narrow flavor profile. I've been trying to get close to Cosmic Fog's Shocker. I have tried a bunch of recipes online which are nothing like the real thing. A part of the problem I think is that as I've vaped this juice there have been around 3 different variations. The first was when it was 50/50. The second was last year in 70/30 which was my favourite. Alot of the recipes online us FW strawberry lemonade which is nowhere near it.

I bought Inawera sweet sour which has a familiarity to it but it just doesn't have the lemon to it. I've tried TFA Lemon, Capella Lemon Sicily but they don't seem to be in the right ballpark.

Any ideas for a decent lemon flavor to try in place. It's such a deceivingly simple flavor which is anything but!

2 points

by chewymidgetover 8 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

Have you tried the normal, non strawberry, FW Lemonade? or LA Lemonade? I'm willing to bet something that has little value it is one of those two.

LA Lemonade is loaded with citric acid. Did the original mix gunk coils slightly? If not then I would try FW Lemonade.

2 points

by tottyobover 8 years ago

I have tried FW Lemonade and it's cloudy which the original isn't. I haven't tried LA Lemonade so I will get some of that in. It doesn't gunk the coils at all actually which points to lack of sweetness.

Thankyou for helping

3 points

by chewymidgetover 8 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

My point was only that citric acid gunks coils. It adds a sour note to the flavor.

FW Lemonade makes the finished mix cloudy?

So, I'm not exactly new to mixing. I've been doing it for about a year now, but I've been doing it by volume and I'm going to be purchasing a scale to begin using weight measurements. My questions are mostly about transferring flavorings into the mix and how to best do that-what bottles/tops to use as well as for storing concentrates that I may have a lot of, but are rarely used or just very potent (like 4oz of AP...).

I'm really just looking to make this as convenient as possible so that I can just grab bottles and drip to the mix and not have a mess or have to fiddle with pipettes and syringes.

I also just purchased 1000ml of 100mg nic from nudenic and was wondering what you guys consider the best way to store nicotine. I purchased some 120ml brown glass bottles thinking I'd put it away undiluted in the fridge, but maybe I should just premix it with VG first? The concern there is safety...

So yeah, any info about transfer/storage of concentrates/nicotine as well as good bottle types would help me tremendously.

Thanks!

3 points

by bobbysavageover 8 years agoResident Tobacco Specialist

Most of your flavors should be coming in squeeze bottles by now. If not use a funnel, or if you're really cheap just use the pipette of the glass bottle you are mixing into. You can skip all of that if you have a reaalllly steady hand , but have to fuck with drams.

nicotine. I use 240ml boston rounds from bullcityflavor, replace oxygen in bottle with argon "wine preserver", store in freezer, then thaw, and shake before use. I have a 30ml working bottle that i periodically fill every couple of weeks and replace any argon that may have escaped from the main bottle (shake before use). The reasons for this are to minimize nicotine oxidation.

Higher concentrations of nicotine are more susceptible to oxidation than lower concentrations. So diluting your nicotine can make it last longer, and depending on how much you dilute it - marginally safer.

Then I let every adult in the house know

  • what is in the bottles (nicotine)
  • where they are located (freezer)
  • and why they shouldn't be fukt with (poison)

I don't have kids so if you can work on that one you are good. If you do have kids idk what to tell you except they make for terrible lab assistants - avoid at all cost. (jokes)

You'll want to pick up CAP Vanilla Custard V1 for starters. It's good solo and very versatile; you can add just about anything to it, depending on the type of custard you want. Find some recipes revolving around this flavor (browse down) and you should be good.

Hi all, so been mixing and vaping for over a year now but still class myself as a Newbie. I would really love a change in pace. All I seem to vape are the usual recpies. Dinner lady, rhodnite, god milk, mega melons, I would love a real fruity mix or candy mix, My ADV is vape domain blue slush. It's just using ATF and ELR (although great sites and awesome place to learn) always seems to be the same tweaks of old recipes or another strawberry one. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would help alot.

3 points

by leapinglabratsover 8 years ago

Sounds like it's time to get creative and start making your own recipes. No one knows what you like best except yourself. For a real fruity mix, stick to the fruits and don't involve creams. You can easily start experimenting on your own with what you have, use ATF and ELR for percentage references, and just try to combine two flavors at first. Look to real life for inspiration. Then do some tweaking or add another flavor. The candy part is often as easy as adding one of the candy flavorings, perhaps some sweetener. You can always stop by the sub for a nudge in the right direction if you're struggling :)

Haha no worries! Try filtering recipes on ATF, that example gives you 156 hits for "berry, fresh, fruit, fruity, juicy and lemonade". There are probably lots of collections on the web too for that particular niche.

But honestly, don't be afraid to do some tinkering on your own, all you need is a bit of patience with the results. Most mixes like this require no steep, so at least you don't need to play the waiting game :)

Yes. I know about common 1:2 (INW:TFA) raspberry practice. But i still get something different from what i trying to achieve.

I understand that it should be possible to make raspberry dominant by lowering creamy base (but it's not so high initially), but don't know how to achieve inhale/exhale only effects. Is there any recommended proportions between flavours to do that?

And also i interested in highlighting raspberry flavour. I know that FA Meringue or some lemon flavours can help with it in some specific cases. But not sure what should i use in current case.
