Breakdown
I have a friend who vapes nothing but vanilla and tobacco in a MTL device. He asked if I could make him a nice vanilla juice, which got me thinking that there isn't much in the way of plain vanilla. sure there's plenty of vanilla based recipes but I havnt come across much that focuses on just the core vanilla flavour, so this journey came to fruition.
-
French vanilla deluxe
this was always going to be my main flavour profile for this recipe. I love the texture of this vanilla and felt it would hold its own once combined with the rest of the recipe. -
Vanilla custard
enough said. This was added to give the end result some thickness. and let's face it, who doesn't like vanilla custard? -
Bavarian cream
I chose bavarian cream for this recipe to thicken out the mouthfeel along with the custard without adding too much sweetness as ill be adding some sweeter notes later. -
Cheesecake Graham crust
this was used to give us a different dimension in the texture, giving a slight crumb base to let the vanilla work off. It also helped to bring the vanilla and creams together in harmony. -
Dulce de leché
a small percentage was added here to help the vanilla 'pop'! it brings a tiny caramel note into the flavour that bounces nicely off the creams, and also brings a bit more sweetness into the mix. -
Vanilla swirl
I'm not the biggest fan of this flavour on its own, but when combined with French vanilla deluxe it really does enhance that vanilla goodness, so a small amount was added here. -
Vanilla bean ice cream
I chose to incorporate some VBIC in here to play alongside the custard and enhance the thickness and mouthfeel. I don't feel this adds anything to the flavour profile as such but it does help with the texture. -
Sweet cream
finally this was added to finish off the cream part of the profile and along with the dulce de leche add some sweetness into the recipe without turning to sweetener.
This recipe has gone through several changes over the last 2 months and this is the one I am finally happy with. If you're a big vanilla fan like myself then give it a shot and make sure to come back with your verdict.
Happy Vaping
This does look glorious. Typically I keep some of /u/Botboy141's Vicious Vanilla in my rotation for a vanilla fix but yours actually looks like it might work better as a straight vanilla mix.
Nice write up, look forward to trying it.
I'm really tempted to try this but 4% FVD feels like i'll be rewicking every 10ml :/ Such a great vanilla, so much coil damage EDIT: Sorry, I always confuse the rather innocent FVD with the coil murdering TPA V Bourbon
Ordered the FVD as it's the only thing I'm missing (I've had it before though and this looks to be delicious). Saved the recipe. I'll try to remember to comment on it after it gets a steep!
have you tried out DIYFS holy vanilla?
Is there anything out there comparable to holy vanilla? I just want to get a good idea before I place an order, it's not exactly cheap but I love, love, love vanilla vapes. I'm about 2 months into my diy journey and it all started because I wanted to recreate Charlie Noble Charlie's custard.
Some may argue whether Shisha Vanilla is a close second to Holy but what isn't debatable (IMO) is that Shisha Vanilla is awesome. It hits a lot of the same notes. If it's more accessible I'd definitely recommend trying it.
i currently have the following vanillas, and the only time i ever use anything other than holy vanilla is if someone elses recipe specifically calls for one of them. vanilla is hands down my favorite flavor (with everything, not just vapes).and if you truly love vanilla, you owe it to yourself to at least try it.
French Vanilla (TPA), Holy Vanilla (DIYFS), Vanilla (Inawera), Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (TPA), Vanilla Classic (Inawera), Vanilla Swirl (TPA), Vanilla Whipped Cream (Cap), Vanillin 10% (TPA)
can I use CAP vanilla custard V2?
Sure, just steep it for a minimum one month instead of the 7 days recommended with V1.
If you're not that patient, I'd just leave it out and use double the TFA VBIC. Won't be the same as /u/sirfletchalot 's recipe, but V2 wouldn't be exactly the same either, and I bet it would be tasty and not have the long wait.
When used at 1% it's helping give a thicker cream to the recipe. V2 isn't going to provide that nearly as well. At least without a month of sitting. So you can either go with ID10-T's recommendation or let it sit with the V2 for a month.
If you don't care about Diketones it's worth it to pick up a bottle.
