Does anyone else have a bad reaction to Diacetyl and Acetyl Propionyl flavors?
submitted over 8 years ago by skijumper97

Capella Vanilla Custard V1 and Flavorwest Butter Pecan, particularly are so pungent, to the point that to me, they taste more like wet dog, Ive had to throw out the bottles. I dont think they had expired, as they were purchased only a month ago from a reputable vendor.

Is this heard of? Do some people simply have bad reaction to those flavor component?

I get this reaction to D/AP. Just can't stand any flavors that have them. They make me pretty nauseous. Most creams and dairies are pretty much unbearable. I've seen a few people with the same complaints. There are dozens of us.

Exactly. Same as I have :(

I have quite a huge list of creams and dairies that I can vape by now though. Good thing is: I can tell AT ONCE when a liquid contains the stuff. Better than a chemical test as I can even taste trace amounts.

Yeah I have a very bad reaction to diketones and have heard others as well. They make me very nauseous every time I've tried and I have tried all percentages and now won't touch em. It's normal

I can't vape any e-liquids that have Diacetyl and other things like that, I just take 2-3 puffs, and I feel sick, almost about to puke, It might be just my case but every time this happens

No, you are not alone with that. I have exactly the same.

This must really suck. I don't think I'd be able to cope without my diacetyl custardy goodness

FW butter pecan has no diketones.

Awesome, but do you have a link to their page that claims this? I cant seem to find anything on it.

TPA and Capella have info pages on their ingredients. Capella include thrid party testing certificates.

If you check on ELR and bullcity neither lists warnings for that flavor

BP doesn't have any and I don't think it's the AP or Diketones that you're disliking in VC, you probably just don't like the volatiles that make up custard. I loathe custard heavy juices, but I will rock every other Diketone loaded flavor in the world. Try using VBIC, Vanilla Swirl, TPA Banana Cream, Marshmallow for airy thickness, etc... All of these are loaded with Dikes and taste heavenly.

Im starting to think you're right. What is VBIC?

*edit, nm, Vanilla Bean Icecream. I should try this. Thx

Yup yup, some people taste TPA as peppery, if you get that try the CAP version, to me TPA is delicioso.

I get this irreversible scarring of my lungs which is a pain in the ass. Just kidding :p but I feel like my lungs kick up a fuss with anything that isn't dike free. Could be a blessing in disguise. So I'm turning my attention to fruits and creams, maybe tobaccos.

Yes me. I have written about this before (some threads already).

After 5 puffs I am so sick that I can't get rid of the awful rancid burnt butter taste for about 24 hours. Everything tastes like it then. It's awful.

I can smell and taste trace amounts of it. Really like a drop of liquid with diacetyl in 30ml of fresh liquid and I can still taste it.

I can't stand Cap Van Custard v1 or 2... I don't know if that's because of AP or diacetyl though.

It sounds to me like you didn't let your mix breathe at all

You don't need to do this. This is bad advice

It's neither right or wrong sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't though

It lets out flavor volatiles more quickly than they should get out. It's wrong for 99% of flavorings .. and the ones it's right for probably shouldn't even be used

Ummm no. That's not correct. You only breathe to evaporate the alcohol in certain flavors. But if you just let it steep normally you do not have to worry about that. Leaving the cap off will only ruin flavors

I agree with you. Breathing has never been proven to hurt/help. Anything for/against it is purely anecdotal, ie means nothing.

How long should I leave the mix with the lid off?

What does breathing the ejuice do? What exactly evaporates off?

Don't do that

Don't breathe your juice. Just let it age with the cap on.

How much vanilla custard did you use in your mix?

When I use Cap vanilla custard over 4% I find it needs to steep about a month .. many people here let it sit for even less time or shake and vape it.

agreed. you really need patience and time when dealing with custards. 4 weeks is a minimum for me. don't touch them beforehand. when I 1st got into diy I jumped straight into the custards as they are by far my favourite vape, but I was too eager. shake and vape one tank and learned right there and then that I had to gain some self control! 2 weeks in and I thought it was ready and it tasted pretty good. but went back after 4 weeks and the custard really came into its own! since then.......4 weeks before I ever crack the bottle open
