Flavors Express Sweet Rice
submitted over 8 years ago by mysticrosellDiketones, Schmiketones

Percentage Used: 2%

Equipment Used: Troll RDA with a single Kanthal .3 ohm Staircase coil at 27W. 24g kernel with 32g wrap, cotton wick.

PG/VG: 30/70

Steep Time: 6 Days

Aroma: White rice, sweet, cream.

Flavor Description: At 6 days it's a very authentic rice. It's a clean white rice, creamy and sweet. I get what I believe is a heavy thick cream, not pudding or custard. The sweetness is not a sugar nor a sweetener flavor itself. It's very similar to a sweet cream with a little more sweetness. I almost get a hint of butter, not sure at this point if it's actually part of the flavor or texture. The mouth feel is a full bodied and textured creamy rice. I am really liking this so far, very very authentic.

Off Flavors: Cream?

Throat Hit: 2/10

Pairings: Cakes, cereal, creams, custards, nuts, butter, cinnamon, spices, nutmeg, horchata, pudding, brown sugar.

Notes: This is a very good strength at 2%. This is the rice I have been looking for to complete my rice pudding, and so far is adding the rice body and creamy texture to TFA Horchata Smooth during the pudding testing. I surprisingly liked this single flavor, but it would be also be great with a dab of butter and cinnamon for a warm bowl of creamy rice cereal.

This has been one of my favorite flavorings since I've gotten it. It's wildly accurate to the profile and has a delicious finish. I've mixed it with numerous different flavors and have found some weird quirks with it. One being that it can get easily crowded. Simple, more linear recipes seem to work best with this flavoring. If you find your recipes feel a bit muted or muddled, it might be that you just have too much going on with it. But it's a fun new flavor that I expect to see a lot more of.

It's a great starch under fruits.

Finally managed to order it today, looking forward to trying your Mango Boba recipe that uses it. It bothers me to see "boba" in a recipe name and not even a little nod to the starch. You can't just ignore the balls.

Yes I know the rice is the balls. That's why this looks like a better boba. It's a boba that actually has balls.

BTW, has anyone found any decent raisin flavor? I've been looking for one for my bread and rice puddings, but haven't found much.

FLV oatmeal raisin is supposed to be like mostly raisin with the slightest hint of oatmeal around 0.5%

I'll think about that. I haven't tried it, but I'm afraid the oatmeal will dry out the pudding and custard aspects. I will research it a bit, thank you.

Fig + grape? Sorry if you've already seen that. It might not work well with rice pudding recipes because it could be hard to use at such a low percentage to give a garnish, I'm guessing.

Hey, what about FLV Raisin Rum? I came back to mention it because I just saw this recipe.

FLV Rum Raisin. Perfect for bread puddings. /u/concreteriver would concur, I think.

I might have to order that...how strong is it?

Strong enough that 0.75% should be plenty for your rice pudding or bread pudding

Whatever you do, don't grab TFA Raisin. It has an anise note for me and almost no raisin.

I agree with Enyawreklaw this one is a game changer.
