FLV Strawberry Smash
submitted over 8 years ago by PerennialPhilosopher

Setup: Goon LP, 25g SS316L dual parallel @0.1 ohms, 99w power, full cotton wicks.

Testing: Flavorah Strawberry Smash @1%, steeped for one week.

Flavor Description: I'm getting a very mild ripe strawberry essence here. It seems like FLV Strawberry filling without the sweet jammy quality, or like FLV strawberry without the shoe flavor. This does have a bit of floral and medicinal quality to it, but it isn't dominating my palette, but the strawberry flavor isn't very potent either. This seems like more trouble than it is worth for the most part, there are many strawberry flavors that will do exactly what this will do only better.

Off-flavors: I do not get any strong off-flavors, perhaps just a hint of floral medicine that will probably come out over 1%. Interestingly, Jen Jarvis does a video review (link below) where she describes almost nothing but off-flavors.

Throat Hit: This one has a bit of harshness compared to the other FLV strawberries, but nothing too bad.

Uses & Pairings: This seems like a decent match for creams/custards, but I would keep this low (<1%) and support it with other strawberries. Not great solo, but not disgusting either IMO. ATF average % of use is 2%, but I wouldn't go that high. It seems like pushing the % to get more strawberry out of this will yield strange off-flavors, while keeping it low will require supporting strawberries.

Notes: This concentrate was provided by /u/ConcreteRiver for me to test. It seems like overall, the FLV Strawberries are extremely subjective flavors, so if you decide to pick any of them up it would be wise to single flavor test them so that you can see how your taste buds like them.

Second Opinions: Flavorah product description: Dynamic and full strawberry notes. Not overly candy in tone, but bright and brilliant enough for a candy flavor. Rich enough to pull down into a custard or cream base.

Jennifer Jarvis made a video review: Her tests were done at 1.5-3%. I will sum up her opinion: do not use this flavor. I personally didn't get the off-flavors as bad in my test, but I'm no supertaster either. also worth noting that I used a slightly lower %.

Yes, thank you for taking the time to write out all of these reviews. I've been looking for a strawberry to round out tfa strawberry ripe. You and everyone else that does these have saved me and countless others valuable time and money.

I don't think that any of these FLV Strawberry concentrates fit the bill. Have you tried JF Sweet strawberry?

Well even if they don't fit the specific use I can always reference them for some other recipe. Haven't tried JF yet. I've heard it's a good one though.

Have you tried 4% TFA ripe and 1% FA strawberry?

Or 4% ripe and 2% CAP sweet strawberry?

Also 3% ripe and 1% RF SC strawberry.

Or 3-4% ripe and 1-2% JF sweet strawberry

I actually just got the RF SC strawberry. I believe your the one who told me it's "the titts"? Cap sweet strawberry for me is super green, like I'm eating unripe strawberry, stems and all. Even at 2% I can't stand it. So much for that 2 oz bottle lol.

Yes give it a try the RF is love in a bottle. Sorry about the CAP, it's not my number 1 choice but I can dig it

mine tasted like the green leaves and the white tops of an unripe strawberry, with a good chunk of the vine thrown in to add that fresh lawn taste. another expensive bottle that will remain almost full.
