Real flavors sponge cake is blacker than my morning coffee.
submitted over 8 years ago by Cocky1976

Hey, I recently ordered the real flavors free 3 flavors of the week. I picked up the sponge cake in addition because I thought it sounded good. So I opened them up and see the sponge cake in a black bottle. Upon closer inspection it's the actual flavor that's black, bottles totally clear! If anybody else has tried this is it supposed to be black? It doesn't smell much like any cake either. All the rest smell great, strawberry, sugar cookie, and cookies and cream. The cookies and cream is dark but it's even lighter than the sponge cake.

It's a super concentrate so I wouldn't sweat it... I've been dealing with Walt for years and he knows his stuff... I used to buy concentrates from him 5 years ago and some of his custards were black as night but fine .. if it tastes good it's probably A-ok..

I just got it today too. Not as bad as say, FA Cocoa, which I swear has actual ground up cocoa beans in it, but yeah it's dark. Keep in mind these are "super concentrates" so the color is going to be deeper than what you would expect from other brands. Also just because it's dark doesn't mean it went bad or something and don't always expect the flavor to match the color you are expecting from it's real food counterpart. Plenty of flavors are dark, that's just how they are.

As for the smell, it's not what I expected but it's not bad. Kind of reminds me of CAP's French Toast. Taste could be totally different though so don't just judge it from the smell. IMO the strawberry has the worst smell out of the ones I got today. It's very "green" and leafy smelling, which hopefully means it will be a very real tasting strawberry instead of the candy ones most companies have. Not that those are bad, but I have enough candy strawberries.

That Strawberry is the realest I've come across. It seems to linger for a longer time on my wicks when I change flavors too. Its tricky to work that one into creams imo because it always stays on top, honestly I've made like 10 mixes with it and I'm not convinced any of them are better than just 2% RF SC strawberry by itself lol

When they were giving away the 30mls I considered making a second order but I use it at 1-2% so it should last me a while, I'm still using the 10ml I got from ecx.

Nice, I guess you could say it's a very... RealFlavor? Heyo! I'm excited to try it now. Hopefully I'll get around to mixing some tonight. I assume it's a good S&V?

It's a good shake and vape and doesn't change much with time

Not a clue what it tastes like yet. I googled it and the only review was in Spanish but it was almost a light yellow. I was confused as they apparently have a coffee sponge cake as well. I thought the strawberry was a very real strawberry smell. I'm hoping it's what I'm looking for to replace Cap sweet strawberry as I get a leafy green taste from that one.

My bad, I just realized I have the deep fried sponge cake. I didn't think they would have multiple sponge cake flavors so I assumed we had the same one. Anyway, yours is probably fine unless it tastes funny.

My Pistachio from RF is super dark amber, way more brown notes than yellow. It's really fucking good though.

I've been pretty happy with all the flavors I've gotten from them, except the souffle. I just mixed up a tester today at 1.5% so I guess I'll see.

I haven't tried/seen that flavor... but TFA Pancake is as black as oil... and it's delicious. Some flavors are just dark.

I can only get re-bottled flavours here in China and now and again I get a bottle where the flavour has turned to a dark black colour. I'm guessing this has to be from exposure to oxygen during the process.
