lately i just feel like my juices are blandish. ive been messing around with different builds, different wire types, different wattage settings. but everything just seems bland. i've even used some juice from vapewild as well with similar results, except the added sugar. i don't think i have vapers tongue because i do drink a lot of water throughout the day.
here is two samples i typically rotate (not my originals):

plus my typical ADV is TFA creme de menthe ranging from 15-18% 65/35. are my flavors just lacking? should i consider trying another brand besides TFA for better flavoring? i also keep trying to make my friend a banana runts flavor with varying percentages between TFA banana and TFA banana ripe with or without sweetener. she's been saying a similar thing as me - it just gets bland.
any advice?
-
Keep your % much lower
-
5% for most of TFA stuff should be plenty and even less for most stuff.
-
Banana ripe will work for your purposes between 0.5-2%
-
Don't use sweetener at all until you master your flavors.
-
Yes you should use other brands but find some highly rated recipes and buy flavors for those
-
then when you are more familiar with the flavors you have you can get more stuff. Read reviews for flavors before buying them so you can get an idea of what theyd be used for and what % to start with
-
More flavor can lead to bland mixes because some of the compounds in the flavors will just mute everything when used at high %
(Ive used maybe one or two TFA flavors above 5% , peanut butter is the only one that comes to mind and tbh I like it more at 1-2% with some marshmallow)
well i use the creme de menthe as a stand alone flavor. i guess i can mix one up at 5% to try but i worry that will just have little to no flavor...?
the two recipes i posted though are originated from other people. they only go over 5% with the blueberry or key lime and those are at 8%. you think thats too high?
i had mixed her up a bunch of different varieties with the bananas. started at 10% stand alone, she said that was too weak bumped them up to 15, 20. 15 was too weak she'd said and 20 was chemical tasting. i made a few up with mixing the two bananas with different percentages and just adding sweetener in some and not in others to try to see which she liked best.
Way too high. Those % seem like they're geared toward using atomizers from 2014. If you're using a modern setup you could cut all those % in half or even down by 75% and I bet the flavor will be plenty.
20% banana ? If someone gave me that I'd probably never speak to them again lol.
It seems counterintuitive to go less with flavor but it's really going to be better.
For the blueberry one I'd use like 3% blueberry and start from there also lower whipped cream to 1-2% , honestly I'd cut all the percentages. Key lime seems to be good around 1-3% from what I've read and seen in recipes. Banana ripe at 1% try that for your friend.
You should look for recipes on alltheflavors.com , in general people seem to take the recipes more seriously and I'm not gonna say they're all great but it's a better resource than ELR in my opinion.
Keep your mixes at like 30% PG and it will carry all the flavor even at low %
i'll try it out. bit leery of it but i'm willing to try it. it's making me lose a lot of interest in vaping lately.
i do have to be at 35% PG minimum though because otherwise i get dry hits. the key lime pie one, for whatever reason, 35% still gives dry hit so i have to do that one 60/40
Think a big question should be, whats your set up? What kinda mod and tank are you 2 using?
i use a sapor RTA with an rx200. current build is twisted 28g wire with .38 ohm running 43-48 watts. like i said, i've been trying out different builds and different wire because i'd ordered some a few weeks ago thinking maybe that was my issue. so ive used the 28g twisted, 26g twisted and clapton the past two weeks. i'd say the clapton was probably the best out of them, but the difference was slight.
my friend uses a nebox with just the standard .5 ohm coil.
Does she usually vape your juices too, with the higher %? You could have just shocked your taste buds into not tasting anything by using really high %s. Try vaping unflavored for a few days or so and then try to add flavors again, but start lower.
Also try looking at mixing brands, they each bring something unique to a mix, and you might find that a low % of a couple different vendors will give a more rounded flavor then just continually bumping the % of a Single company.
No she usually vapes this banana juice by gnarly plumes but for whatever reason he hasn't been selling her flavor since like February. He told her originally he was out of those flavors but idk 3 months later he still doesn't have it I guess. And that's like her adv so I've been trying to replicate it for her but it's not been working.
What are some of the biggest differences between the flavoring brands? I know I've seen a lot of people kinda dissing on tfa but then other people love it so that's the only one I've really tried so far. Are the others more potent?
Some days i feel the same way. I get no flavor from my juice. It HAS to be vapers tongue because my flavors always taste great first thing in the morning
maybe. but dang do i drink so much water throughout the day. i used to keep track but i've been slacking lately. but i'd say a typical day i drink like 60-90oz of water. lol.
and i guess i feel like its weird my friend said the same thing because its not an issue shes had before. she was stuck on one brand and one flavor and not interested in anything else and for some reason the vendor hasnt put any of her juice up for sale for like 3 months. so ive been trying to clone it for her but i dont really want it to be a permanent thing anyway
Vapers tongue is not only due to dehydration. In fact I would say that's a minor component. Typically it's due to something called olfactory fatigue, where your sense of smell gets overwhelmed by too much of a certain molecule, and starts to ignore it. Similar to how people with pets never notice thier house has a pet odor, but visitors can typically pick it up right away. It's a defense mechanism your body has, to help you notice changes in smell without being masked by things you smell all the time. The solution is use less flavoring, or change flavors often. You can also try vaping your VG/PG with no flavoring. This has a pleasant, sweet taste, and gives your taste buds a break.
Yeah I've used non flavored before. More than likely I will use it for a few days before I begin using the juice with less flavor %. The creme de menthe is my regular adv then every few weeks when I get somewhat burnt out on that I'll make up those two recipes I'd mentioned or something else to kind of mix things up
What else do you drink throughout the day? I was a HEAVY coffee drinker. I found that it was affecting my taste buds. I stopped drinking so much coffee and voila... Much more flavor.
mostly just water. i have one cup of coffee in the morning. i try to stay away from pop.
Are you from the Northeast?
Coffee definitely does impacts my sense of taste. I still am a heavy coffee drinker, but I've found that a huge glass of water consumed over the course of 30 to 0 minutes before testing new flavors and recipes goes a long way in finding nuances of flavor that I would miss if the last thing I drank was coffee.
I dont mean to sound cocky but unless you're vaping an old clearo your dry hit issues are because of your wicking. I mix without added PG so most of my mixes are 15% PG or less. I have no problems with dry hits. Even on stock coils like the original Crown, iSub and Cleito.
I'm not vaping an old clearo. I don't want to use max vg or anymore vg than I am using now anyway though. I don't like having big thick clouds. It makes people stare and say stupid annoying stuff. Wicking has been the cause of dry hit issues in the past but I have since learned a wicking method that works that doesn't give me any dry hits. But if I used higher vg it would. But the current wicking method and vg/pg mix of my juices is working for me as far as dry hits and leaks, etc. I'm not trying to change that. I just want the flavor to stand out better.
TFA Creme de Menthe probably is safe to vape from 2-5 pct tops. Sometimes more flavor conc. = less flavor. Generally I try to stick to total flavoring >15%
Maybe your concentrates are getting old? how old are they?
Try using alltheflavors.com for good recipes, look up the most commonly mixed ones. ELR can be very questionable, - I rarely use it anymore. Look at all the recipe of the month threads, there are tons of good ones.
the TFA creme de menthe is probably only 2 months old tops. thats my typical ADV so i go through that pretty quick. the ripe banana is probably 5 months? regular banana is maybe about 7, as well as the other flavorings i believe.
and i'll check out that site.
