DarkStar nicotine smell?
submitted over 8 years ago by Xafilah

I've always bought nicotine from thee-cigshop in the past, but they have run out of their TPD free nicotine. With May 20th coming up I though I'd buy a bulk lot of nicotine from DarkStar.

Upon opening to rebottle & freeze, it has an almost noxious smell of solvents and popcorn. The nicotine I've had in the past hardly had a smell at all. Is this normal and safe?

It's worth bearing in mind that at the moment Darkstar and other nicotine suppliers in the UK are selling all of their old stock due to the Tobacco Product Directive. It's highly likely you received an old bottle. Get in contact with them and see what they can do.

I wouldn't recommend mixing with it. If you're uncomfortable with it then be safe rather than sorry.

It's official info =D reality is that they still dilute nicotine upon request and you get more or less fresh mixed bottle. They should keep different Sku for pre-tpd and past-tpd (b2b sales only) but interned detectives already debunked this myth. It's totally unenforceable on their side so good for us we can buy nicotine up until 19th May. I sit on 4.5l nicotine atm and order some more tommorow

I opened up a 500ml no longer than a month ago and mine was similar on opening, the smell is hard to describe, sweet and chemically, but the nic itself is slightly tinted a yellow/copper colour. I mix at 3mg and 6mg for my friends and it seems fine, I can't really taste any difference from my previous nic. I don't have any place to store any more, but if I could I would, these overpriced nic shots aren't doing anybody any favours.

I've only bought from Darkstar twice and both times (a few months ago) i had the same experience, i can definitely taste it too, im desperate to find a good uk nic supplier with no taste

My darkstar nicotine is yellow like infected liver piss, almost has orange tint to it. It smell exactly like you describe, nutty and bit chemically. I don't taste difference though, mix 3mg and 15mg juice without issue (I actually think my 3mg juice is smoother than store bought 3mg).

I had brown, pink and red nicotine in past, brown was worse, pink didn't tasted much different same as red.

I always get my nic from Darkstar and never had an experience like that. Sounds like a bad batch. Get in touch with them.

I have today received 2x 500ml bottles of 72mg PG Nic from DarkStar and I don't detect this chemical smell you describe. Out of interest which size did you buy and did you get VG or PG based?

Same here, if you like I can pull mine out of the freezer and see if there is a batch number on it. Not at home at the moment but will check tomorrow and post back.

OK, pulled mine out of the freezer and the batch numbers are PG72072 on both the 500ml. Some other previous bottles of 100ml are batched as PG072068 just for reference.

I got a 5l from them a few months back and stuck it straight in the freezer without even opening it. I'll be seriously bummed if it's bunk

I got a 500ml 2 weeks ago (batch PG72067). Although it had a bit more nose to it than usual, it was no worse than nic I've had from other places or had in and out of the freezer a few times. There was also no colouration.

It has been pretty warm the past few days so maybe the heat has gotten to it. I'd make a small batch of a subtly flavoured, no throat hit recipe, to see if it's noticeable. Might be best to contact them first.

Others are pointing out they'll be selling pre TPD old stock but this doesn't make sense to me. Surely they always sell the oldest stock they have first, and if they expected a drop in sales they would buy less more frequently rather than a big batch they hope to be rid of. I assume they'll also mix the remainder into TPD compliant volumes. A recent email also said they can still sell 7.2% wholesale so I'd put my money on either bad batch or external factors.

I got a new bottle yesterday from Darkstar and it smells really strongly of turpentine.
