Have you ever used Propanediol?
submitted over 8 years ago by DIY-Eliquid

I have seen it before but never vaped it. At the lab I work there is a batch that got compromised and disposed (someone didn't seal the container right and it stay exposed all weekend to oxygen) so I brought some home and made a few recipes and I can say its nice. Not much different that PG but you can actually taste something is different in the recipe. It goes very well with fruits so far and it seems to have less of a throat hit than PG, next Ill try mix it with butterscotch too to see.

I made a quick video with some information about it too. https://youtu.be/tX0UKmxEXSo

I got a 500ml sample from 3M a while back. I like it compared to PG. It is far smoother (I HATE throat hit) and carries flavor about as well. It also seems to produce more vapor than PG if you care about that.

I like too, I don't think I will convert to propanediol excusively but there are some flavors it goes really well with. Also the price is a little high compared to pg for every day use.

AKA PDO, as opposed to PG

I have heard that PDO needs to age longer for the mix to blend, and found this to be true. I mixed a couple test batches along with some control batches using PG. Two or three weeks were needed to have the test baches taste the same as the control batches.

Ya I agree, I find it also needs extra blending time than PG, so I used a battery mixer.

I vaped some plain PDO base 6mg liquid to try it out and it tasted sorta 🌽 y. Smooth though. I only got a 30ml sample so I didn't mix any flavor into it.

I mix at max VG due to PG sensitivity. I would assume that being a closely related analogue this would still cause irritation?

I can't give a definite answer but PD is used as an alternative to PG in pharmaceuticals for PG sensitive people. But the only way to know for vaping is trying.

Good to know, I may try a little out if I can source it

Propanediol is used in substitution of PG.

To be exact, it's the only other isomer of PG.

PG is 1,2-propanediol. The asked-about alternative is 1,3-propanediol.

There is some chance it may act at GABA receptors, like 1,4-butanediol (which is similar to drugs like GHB and GBL), but it's probably very, very weak in comparison. It's likely fine.

I figured the OP wanted a simple answer but you're correct.

They are almost identical and both get converted to glucose at the end. There shouldn't be an issue under normal use but you are right they are very close.

How safe is it and where could you get it if allowed for purchase?

As safe as PG I would say, check amazon or a chemistry supplier.

I've only seen small amounts sold on eBay and I'm not going to buy anything like that on eBay. You got any websites you would recommend?

I can't recommend somewher specific, but any reputable seller that sells sealed containers only should be fine.

I love the stuff PG kills my throat PD feels just like max vg, so smooth.

Ya much smoother, if it wasn't for the higher price I would use it exclusively.
