Type of Tobacco:
- non-aromatic (kinda.. I'll describe below)
Flavor Properties:
- earthy
- dark
- touch of spice
Relatable Flavors:
- first off, it has that FA "charred green pepper" note that I described for FA Latakia and others
- cocoa/bakery undertones
- earthy, wet dirt or leaves note

Off Flavors:
- none technically
Position In A Recipe:
- main note or accent but please read conclusion
Suggested Percentage:
- 1-3%
Pairings:

Conclusion:
- I categorized it as non-aromatic because it's not heavily flavored with toppings but in reality, this does not taste like tobacco in any way.
- If you've tried FA Latakia or Dark Vapure and enjoyed it, you will probably like this one.
- Personally, I will just come out and say it, I don't like this at all. Not even one bit. There are way better options in tobacco land.
- This flavor will be familiar to anyone who has tried several commercial tobacco flavors. It's been used a lot.
- I don't see myself using this ever. Maybe some people enjoy it, but it's just not for me.
I hate this one with a passion , makes me ill although it's very popular with many other people .
Just has a smell & taste that i find really offensive . I think you either will like it right away or hate it .
Could be a Turkish vibe that i hate i don't know.
I'm with you on this. It tastes like that one shitty tobacco flavor that every B&M on the planet seems to have. It's the flavor that got me into DIY thinking "I can do better, make the world a better place" lol.
Thanks for the reviews you do , always excellent .
Something about the Desert Ship i can't tolerate though , still have a full bottle untouched from about two years ago , time to toss it.
One of my most used tobacco concentrates, great for adding authenticity to ry4 type bases at 0.5-1.5%. This and TFA RY4 double were some of the first concentrates I used years ago when first making tobacco liquids. I put them aside for a long time but once learning how to use them they are now amongst my favourites.

I knew someone would like this. Wh1skey linked a recipe which looks interesting. You got any on hand? Overall, this profile is just not for me but glad to hear some other opinions.
Some examples of how i would use it would be..
FA Soho 8%
FA Desert Ship 1.2%
TFA Whipped Cream 2%
FA Caramel 2.2%
TFA RY4 Double 4%
FA Soho 4%
FA Desert Ship 1.5%
FW Bavarian Cream 2.5%
INW Vanilla Shisha 2%
TFA Red Type 2%
TFA RY4 Double 5%
FA Desert Ship 1.2%
FW Butterscotch Ripple 3%
Great for when you have a good recipe but just need some more authentic tobbaco notes to come thru, wouldn't use it as a main flavour.
I use this strictly as an accent (0.75-1.5%) to other tobaccos. My Legend recipe wouldn't be legendary without it.
Ah nice, someone who know's what they're doing with this stuff. I can imagine the black current and fuji making things make sense. When I thought about how to use Desert Ship, all I was thinking was dark and leafy blends which would not do well imo. Good shit.
I just mixed your recipe with FW Butter Ripple, TFA Red Burley, TFA Ry4d, FA DS..I subbed TFA RB with FLV RB at the same 2%. SnV it is good. Im sure steeping will help it. I saw you kept FA DS to sub 1.5%. Never mixed it that low. Usually not a fan of DS.
I use this in a Camel Smooth juice. And that's it. It's seriously useless beyond that IMO
Yeah, I don't know what T_Mace is talking about it not being an authentic tobacco at all. I can't stand the stuff, it's one of those flavors that makes you think about throwing your atty away, but it tastes very much like Camels to me.
AKA ashy dirt. I mix it up for those trying to quit smoking and who are not ready for flavortown express. Seems to do the trick
Thanks for doing these. A post I would really enjoy reading from you would be (now that you've tested the FLV tobaccos) a "Tobacco awards" type thing, where you nominate the best flavourings in a range of categories. Best aromatic, best "authentic" tobaccos, best desert tobacco etc. I am also interested to see what recipes you have been making with your wealth of knowledge. You only have like 3 recipes on ELR and don't seem to be on ATF?
For myself I only wanted to vape tobaccos when I started. However the combination of month long steep times and 90% of flavours tasting nothing like tobacco has left me pretty used to vaping "fruity crap" menthols and bakeries now. Another issue is that so many tobaccos are awful at anything other than the exact right sweet spot and it takes so much work to find it. I bought several of the FLV flavourings you recommended though so I'm holding out hope of an authentic tobacco. Cheers

Last 3 links contain essentially the same basic reviews with 3 different discussions in 3 different places.
Ya FLV will serve you well and no steep required, they're very stable after a shake. I hope you picked up Red Burley and Kentucky, those are my faves from FLV. The post from me that bobby linked could use some revision but it's a good starting point for sure.
I guess I messed up. I remember someone saying "burley is burley" and I already have FA Burley. I picked up FLV Connecticut shade, Cured, Native, Turkish and Tatanka. I think you said Kentucky and Native were very similar.
Ya Native and Kentucky are very similar. Either one will do the trick. I haven’t tried FA Burley because I read somewhere that it's very meh. But I could be wrong. At some point you might want to pick up Red Burley, which is rather superb.
I used to use this back when I made one juice for myself and was somehow content. As I look through my mixing archives (my old notebook), it looks like I was doing something roughly like:
2% FA Desert Ship
1% INW Flue Cured
1% ECX Tobacco Absolute
Then the rest of it was 2% each of a Vanilla, Bavarian Cream, Hazelnut, and Toasted Almond. Before I switched to the Desert Shit (not a typo), I used 3% SC Blended. I eventually went back to the Blended because I was never quite happy with the Desert Ship. I'd basically just wait for my tongue to stop tasting it. I haven't had it in my stockpile for probably a year or so, and I probably won't be getting it again any time soon. I don't think I trust anything named Desert Ship. About the only Tobacco that has pretty prominent Spice notes that I will trust is Gold for Pipe, and even that I don't think I'll use as a base.
Edit: Also, I am liking this brutally honest side. Maybe I'll send you these German Flavors haha.
templepilot linked some recipes that make sense to me on paper. Seems you were doing something similar with the Vanilla, Bavarian etc pairings. I can see that working off the bakery note in DS. As you know, I just want leaf all day so not for me but I get why people would be into it. Still would reach for Blended over DS any day.
Hahaha ya, after reading your German reviews I figured I'd add my personal notes in the Conclusion section.
From what I remember, I really liked the way it smells. I could just never get the taste to match it. I think the last little bit I ever had, I tried mixing with INW Biscuit and maybe something else, but I never even tasted it. It might actually still be somewhere in my basement.
I've never been a "fan" of this flavor but had an epiphany about it at one point -- It occurred to me that it seemed to emulate a toasted aspect -- think Lucky Strike cigs... Toasted tobacco. Not that it accomplishes it well, but it seems to strike that nerve once you've related it in that respect; At least that's how it was for me. I still don't care for it, but using it at <.25-.5 steeped for at least three weeks, lends a slightly toasted flavor that works pretty well depending on the mix-- over that and it's overkill IMO. I think it works pretty well with some Dulce De Leche and AP -- tonyp1119's Cobra Byte hits a nice balance, but could probably take the DS a little lower and make it better.
