OK new mixers, this is your thread to ask any questions you want of the DIY eJuice community. All posts are allowed, but we still encourage you to use the sidebar and search features before asking any questions.
- Placing your first DIY order and want to make sure you have all you need?
- Not sure about how to mix your first bottle?
- Want to get started but aren't sure how?
- Any other questions? ... then this is the thread for you. FWIW, the answers to the first three questions will eventually be found in the wiki (still in development); link at the top of the page.
Ask away!
What's a nice smooth nicotine that's good for fruit flavors the nicotine I had a right now from liquid barn and is way too harsh from me kinda ruins my flavors I'm looking for a nice smooth nicotine so my flavors can really pop without tasting straight up peppery weirdness I've Heard nude nicotine and vaportek any comments question marks or any others that are really really smooth that are really really cheap
You get what you pay for. Really really cheap = harsh. Really really smooth, CXTC, but pricey.
Nude is probably what you're looking for.
You might want to check out nicselect from Nicotine River also. The batch I got in 100mg/ml is colorless and flavorless.
Not a question, more a rant really! just need to get it out there and say "FUCK THIS NEW TPD BULLSHIT!"
seriously giving me a headache trying to figure out what's the best way to go about getting nicotine after next week. I've just ordered another 500ml of 72ml/7.2mg to get me started but right now can't afford to stock up with more until the end of the month, and by then it will be too late
Well, at least in the short term things might be a bit better than that. I'm in the US, but I've been sort of following this, and at least some UK companies are going to continue selling 72 mg nic. The idea is that companies that have other products that are regulated under the TPD will not be able to, but companies that don't will be able to continue to sell 72 mg nic in bulk. See: http://www.thealchemistscupboard.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Nicotine-UK-explination.pdf
They are, unfortunately, pretty expensive, but I imagine there will be some others who give this a try as well. Have no idea what the response will be, and that might get shut down pretty quickly, but at least it might give you a chance to get another order in.
That's damn expensive! over £80 for 500ml?!!!!!!
Yeah, it's pricey- over twice what I pay for the most expensive plausible DIY option in the US, which is about twice what other quite good nic costs. Still probably a lot cheaper than buying 180 10ml bottles of 20mg though.
But there might be some other vendors who follow suit, and don't charge as much. The TPD regulations only apply to consumers, not to wholesale sales to businesses. I've seen some speculation that Darkstar, who have much better pricing, might just consider all sales of 500 mils or over to be wholesale sales to businesses, as long as they can get away with it.
If not- well, I've never started a business in the UK, so I don't know how expensive it is to do so there. But I have in the US and in Canada, and it's pretty close to free in both countries (incorporating costs a little more- I'm talking about sole proprietorships or partnerships.) It might be worth your while to start a "business" ;). If it's expensive to register a business there you might see if you can split the costs a few ways between some "partners."
What is the best site to find vg, pg, nicotine, and flavor concentrates?
You can grab all those things at Nicotineriver.com
Is it worth getting a DIY kit from Nicotineriver to start out as a beginner on a tight $$ budget?
How much is it? I don't recommend packs in general. You can get a liter or PG and VG from Amazon for around 20$ free prime shipping. Get Nicotine from nic river and grab some flavors youre interested in. Only buy 10ml of flavor at a time to make sure you like them. When I first started I remember doing math and the kits just don't save you money in the long run
I understand the ingredients and ratios and stuff, but I'll be putting my first order in soon and I'm curious about tools/equipment.
Could someone offer insight on this? What would be a good shopping list for everything other than the actual components of the juice? Not sure yet if I'll be mixing by weight or volume but volume seems like it would be cheaper (no need to buy a scale) to start out. If that's dumb let me know.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: Just put in my order, got a scale. Really stoked and so grateful for this community :-)
Bite the bullet and get a scale. I thought the same thing when I started out, and it bit me in the ass. It can be a bit cheaper to start, but you'll eventually need to keep buying more syringes, which will add up in cost. Also, cleanup is irritating (for me, anyway). I hated mixing for a while because I just couldn't stand having to rinse and clean my syringes after every use, plus trying to avoid using the same syringe between two flavors gets difficult when you're mixing more complex recipes. Get an American Weigh LB-501 (if you're in the US; I don't know a good option otherwise) and some plastic transfer pipettes from Amazon. The scale isn't terribly expensive (the pipettes cost very little, like a box of 500 is 15 bucks or so and will last a while, and may even be unnecessary if your concentrate bottles have a dropper top), it's plenty accurate enough, and clean up is minimal. Volume is fine if you're doing big batches (more than the LB-501 can weigh), but I really think weight is the way to go if it's a feasible option for you.
How accurate should it be .01 grams?
Not the guy you asked, but yes. I'd also recommend some 120 ml squeeze bottles for your VG and PG. These bottles allow you to dispense the VG or PG directly into your mixing bottle without the need for syringes or pipettes. Trying to get VG up into a syringe or pipette can be a HUGE pain in the tuccus, and as a bonus you've got less items to clean. When I mix, I place my squeeze bottle of VG in a hot water bath to loosen it up. It makes it way easier to pour off and mix the final bottle(I add my VG last and then shake the snot out of the closed bottle)
Buy a scale. That's imo the most important thing.
Other than that you just need bottles to put your juice in and maybe some plain labels for the bottles.
That's all. Buy the scale don't even try to justify that you don't need it. I thought I didn't need it and I got a scale a week after starting DiY. The difference is night and day. Scale is more accurate and faster and cleaner.
That's my main advise to a new mixer just get a scale and thank me later
Also grab some 10mls for single flavor testing or testing small batches.
Do you recommend glass bottles or plastic? I prefer the unicorn style and kind of hate the glass dropper bottles but everything I've seen on here suggests glass. Is it super important to use glass?
I use plastic for everything.
On Eliquid recipes and all the flavors, all the recipes are listed in ml and grams. It's much easier to measure by weight. no matter how 'accurate' your syringe is, it won't be as accurate as dropping the concentrates and pg/VG/nic straight into the bottle while it's on the scale. You also don't have to clean a new syringe or pipette between mixes.
Anybody use the All The Flavors app (on Android)? Is there a way to pull up a list of your saved Favorites? The interface is really confusing me, but it seems to only show my recipes.
Just use your browser instead of the app. The creator himself even recommends this.
Really? That's kind of disappointing.
I'm no chemist so let me know if this is a severely flawed method of making juice.
I put a bottle on the scale and zero the scale. I need 5 grams of flavor a and 12 grams of flavor b. I add flavor a until it reads 5 grams and then I zero it again and add flavor b until it reads 12 grams.
It seems like the easiest math free way to do it.
No that's exactly how you weigh things on a scale. I just hope those aren't real measurements and just numbers you threw out there.
Also why are those numbers so bad? Without knowing how much I was making you couldn't know if it was too much / little?
Does removing nic from a recipe change the way the flavors work? Like would I need to maybe increase the flavorings or reduce the percentage to get it to taste the same?
Not really, but it tends to soften up the vape considerably and make the entire thing a bit unsatisfying. I wouldn't really mess with your flavors, but maybe crank up the PG in the mix to get a bit of bite back if you want a similar effect. If you're mixing 80/20, try 70/30.... or maybe 60/40 if you're used to to 70/30.
Slightly off topic, but does anyone use their flavours for anything else? I've been debating on buying a soda stream thing and attempting to make my own flavours of soda.
Flavored lube
Lollipops. I give them to friends and family during holidays.
Oh, that sounds good too. Share a recipe?
I mostly use this recipe with flavours I didn't really dig for vaping. Flavors that are heavily alcohol based aren't great for it, but LorAnn's watermelon was a huge hit, FA watermelon went over well too, FLV lychee was great for my Filipino family members (the white folks I gave em to weren't keen with the tartness). You have to experiment with the flavor strengths though and tbh I don't remember what I mixed them at. Things that you diy at lower percentages are stronger in the lollipops too.
Candles
Really? I've never made candles, but that would be cool. And mothers day is coming soon. I bet she'd get a kick out of that. I'll have to look into it. Does it take a lot of flavourings?
I make candles with my girlfriend and read that sense the flavors aren't oil based they don't last long scent wise. I should just make a small one to try it out. They usually recommend candle scents or essential oils.
Pro tip, to get a more potent candle wait for the wax to cool before adding the flavorings in. If the wax is too hot it will degrade the scent. People use a thermometer for this but I just wait 5 minutes after melting the wax in the microwave.
Is a scale even worth it when you make 500ml-1L in a blender?
Not the AWS LB-501. You'd need something capable of more weight
I use 10 mL syringes for large batches, easier than squeezing an hdpe bottle for 5 minutes.
Yeah I do the same when I make a nic base in a 500mL Liquid Barn Bottle. Weigh the VG then 10mL syringe for the nic and PG. Although, I recently noticed that the AWS LB-501 can measure more than 500g total. I'm sure it loses a bit of accuracy over 500g, but it can be done.
I have read somewhere here that mixing inw raspberry and fa raspberry makes a great raspberry. I know that those two flavors are really strong. Anyone use them together? What is the best ratio? I thought about something like 0.5% inw and 1% fa
0.5% is a good starting point for INW Raspberry FA Raspberry is a bit more forgiving but I would try
- INW Raspberry 0.5%
- FA Berryl(Raspberry) 1-2%
Hey guys, New mixer here. I have Cool Mint CAP and Strawberry(ripe) TFA. I'm wanting to get a strawberry mint flavor like I've had from shisha. Anyone more experienced have a good starting point for a mix of these two? Figured it can't hurt to ask before I make a mint monstrosity. Thanks!
Would anyone recommend a cheap RDA that is easy to build on and has great flavor? I only have tanks and would love to get into the rebuildable scene without dropping hundreds on a sub par dripper. Please and thanks!
Tsunami 22mm or 24mm is easy to build on. Flavor is better on the smaller one but you have to build smaller. It was my first RDA. Oh yeah and about 30 bucks
I really enjoy the new peerless RDA. It's easy too build on and with side airflow there is almost no leaking(unless you massive overdrip) . Just turn down the airflow to three hole per side and you get a smooth restricted lung hit with good flavor. It's a great first RDA.
Recently got my first set up and batched 30ml of a test flavor. I wasn't smart and just ordered flavors from TFA that sounded good and not a recipe. OOPS. My flavors are: Bavarian cream, french vanilla, graham cracker cookie, mexican coffee (smells horrid), cappuccino and tiramisu.
I batched a 2% BC, 2%FV and .5% cappuccino. Needless to say I was very unimpressed with the shake n vape haha! Tried looking for some recipes with the flavors i got but to no avail. Any help with my flavor list would be helpful! I will put another order in for more flavors this week. Thanks again!
You will want to post this in the Suggest A Recipe Thread. You can list your flavors there. But honestly, you should just dump the Mexican coffee and cappuccino
Is that the french vanilla deluxe? If so it's pretty damn good on its own at around 8%
Just the regular :(. I upped the BC and FV to 5% each and see if that tastes good after a few days steep. If not then oh well! Ordering the stuff for "Mr. Peanut Butter" to try out that mix. Thanks for the tip on the single flavor though man.
If you want a good coffee flavor try FA up! At 1-2%
Thank you! I have been on a caramel/coffee/cream kick the past month.
Was looking to make a dark fruits mix for the coming summer, but I've been reading bad things about most blackberry flavours, should I just use FA Blackcurrant instead?
Like Eddie said, TFA is incredibly potent. It has gotten a bad name tho from people over-using it. .5% or even less adds a nice touch to a berry mix.
Another very potent berry is INW Raz. Maybe not exactly a "dark" berry, but it is very nice as an accent. I use it at .25 in a simple cheesecake. Really prominent.
Been mixing cool fruity flavors for some months now. Inawera flavors and coolada in 90/10 3mg base liquid. I'm looking for some recipes to take it to the next level.
I have: INW raspberry, INW pineapple, INW cactus, INW pear, INW lemon.
Should specify that I want to use as few flavors as possible.
Shake n vape/ clone request? Flavor: Italian Ice by Frozen Custard (3-6mg) A mentholy, fruity flavor that is not overly sweet, it is the only juice I can vape on for 180+ ml and not get sick of it, this juice is the only thing really keeping me from putting the down payment on a diy setup, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm looking to make my second order to grab some fruits to play with. After my failures with strawberry (TFA strawberry tastes like soapy wax to me) I was wondering if you guys had some suggestions about which company to go with for the following fruit flavors. Have read about one of the pineapples tasting of burnt rubber so trying to avoid buying the wrong concentrate. Apologies if this is the wrong thread for this question!
-
Mango
-
Passion Fruit
-
Grapefruit
-
Cantaloupe
-
Papaya
-
Peach

Pear
-
Kiwi
-
Pineapple
-
Blueberry
Are you exclusively after TFA or are other brands like FA, FW and CAP something you could think of? If yes I would recommend.
- FW Blueberry
- FA Kiwi
- TFA Pear
These three is good enough to use as single fruit flavoring in most recipes. There are more but I will list more if you want.
Not exclusively looking for TFA flavors, very open to other brands. The idea behind the question was along the lines of: If you are stranded on an deserted island and have to pick one brand for each of the fruits in the list which one would you go with? Appreciate your feedback!
You'll get different opinions on questions like this but here are my favorites
-
FLV Mango
-
FLV Passion Fruit
-
FLV Pink Guava (taste like grapefruit) or INW Grapefruit
-
CAP Cantaloupe
-
FA Papaya
-
FLV Peach
-
INW Pear and FA Pear
-
FA Kiwi
-
INW Pineapple
-
A combination of FW Blueberry, TFA Blueberry Extra, and FA Bilberry, with a dash of CAP Italian Lemon Sicily
Yeah, realise the brand choices might be a subjective thing for each persons palate but your post really helps me narrow down the options and point me in the right direction. Thanks for taking the time to help out, now hopefully I can find all the above from the South African vendors!
So, today I just placed the order for all the things I'll need for a DIY set up. Glass jars in 4oz size for nicotine storage, 30 and 60 ml glass for juices, 15 ml plastic for testers, a scale, pipettes, and funnels. I bought nicotine at 100mg nicotine from Carolina extract, different flavors from Inawera and from The Flavor Apprentice. PG and VG from Amazon. I'm pretty sure I forgot something, but I figure I have about a week or two before everything starts showing up. The flavors from Inawera were pear, frost, melon, apricot, and cactus. From TFA I got Bavarian Cream and Bavarian DX, Boysenberry, Cantaloupe, Cucumber, Honeysuckle, Marshmallow, and koolada. I hope I'm off to a good start! If anyone has any hints, tricks, tips, and recipes that might not have been covered in the extensive sidebar, please let me know!
INW flavors are usually pretty strong.
koolada is also pretty strong. i usually use it as an afterthought by the drop. 3-5 per 30ml
Bavarian cream is delicious. i dunno about the DX version but from what i've read it takes longer to steep and doesn't taste as good.
cactus can be used to brighten fruits. try it at .5% with another flavor.
e-liquid-recipes.com has a user driven flavor notes page for each flavor. helps to find recommended percentages.
Can I get some recommendations for single flavor % for these different flavors?
INW Am4A
INW Captain Jack For Pipe
HS Arabic Tobacco
HS Deluxe Tobacco
SC Island Tobacco
SC Parlay
TFA Black Cherry Tobacco
TFA RY4 Double
/u/chemicalburnvictim /u/t_mace /u/bobbysavage
Thanks for the page! I'd mix them all at 3% to start. None of those are going to twist your face at that percentage. I haven't worked with Black Cherry Tobacco so that one I'm not sure but TFA 3% is usually fine so go for it. Or you could consult ELR. /u/fackyuu
How many grams of salt to use in how much distilled water to have the correct saline solution to use in Charlie Noble PB Cereal?
Don't use water use pg
If you make a 10ml use a gram of salt and 9 grams of pg
Also what kind of salt are you using? Make sure there's no iodine in it
Op is trying to make saline solution which is based in distilled water, not pg.
My wife is trying to smoke less and vape more. She still smokes about 1/2 pack per day. I've been vaping for a while and have gone all the way down to 3mg for nicotine.
So my question, what level should I start her out with to start working down? I bought her an aspire pocket x MTL vape pen.
I use 36 mg/ml nicotine from ecigexpress. I'm thinking that 18mg would work well, but that may be too high since the aspire is technically sub ohm.
So I have been mixing for about a year now, and I pretty much only mix recipes from other people that are well-known. Mostly fruit mixes. No sweeteners. I've been using a griffin tank with dual fused claptons (all kanthal) at .45 ohms, 50 watts, or a kayfun 5 clone with the same fused clapton at .9 ohms. I'm pretty confident I'm wicking these correctly. Never get a dry hit. no leaking. I rewick about twice a week, but I notice flavor starts to go flat about a day after rewicking. I usually don't even go through 3-4 mls before this happens. If I pull apart my tank and drip some juice directly on the coils, flavor comes back right away. Is that pretty normal? Do tanks just suck at wicking compared to dripping?
Anyways, I was wondering what the importance of coil material and atomizer choice is when it comes to getting the best flavor out of mixes. I'm planning on getting a hadaly clone and a squonk mod soon and I'm gonna try using stainless steel with temp control. Is that gonna help me get better, longer lasting flavor?
Also, I know this isn't really a DIY juice question, but I figured you guys are hypersensitive to flavor moreso than the general vaping population.
I'm going to go with "yes" on the better, longer-lasting flavor. I've actually never tried a rebuildable tank like the Griffin or Kayfun, but the flavor on all of my RDAs, even the one I rank as the worst for flavor, is so much better than on tanks with pre-built coils.
Got a question about INW Black Cherry for Pipe. When I first got the flavor, I fell in love with it because it felt like this perfect culmination of cherry and pipe tobacco and it tasted amazing all by itself. But afterwards the juice just started tasting of this very sickly medicinal cherry taste like cough syrup and I was barely getting any tobacco taste at all.
I always shake my flavors prior to mixing, FYI. Has anyone else had a similar experience with the flavor?
When you say after a while, do you mean like after a couple days of steeping, or after you go through the first couple ml in a day it starts to get weird?
Hard to say because I usually don't vape the same stuff over and over again so it takes me a while to get through even a 30 mL bottle. But I definitely let it steep, at least a week, maybe 2.
I have one juice that gets kind of weird if I try to vape it all day. It's really good if I only take a couple hits every hour, but it gets to a point where it starts tasting funky. I'm pretty sure the overall flavor is too high, so I cut it back by about half to try out. How strong you going with the cherry?
Hello everyone! Just a quick question about menthol vs. Koolada. I recently bought both menthol and Koolada and from what I understand Koolada adds the coolness while being able to taste the rest of the flavors and menthol adds a coolness with a hint of mint. My question is when do I use one of them. In recipes that say "3% menthol or Koolada" how do I know which one will end up better or which one to use? Thanks!
Recipes probably shouldn't say that because there's a huge difference between a sensation of coldness and the actual flavor of menthol. That's almost like saying, "add three ice cubes or three cough drops."
I am looking to get into DIY mixing, and I have a basic list of items I am ready to order. I plan to measure by weight and will not use nicotine. The items are: American Weigh Scales LB-501 Digital Kitchen Scale
24, Cobalt blue, 15 ml (1/2 oz) Glass Bottles, with Glass Eye Droppers
Propylene Glycol 1 Quart - USP - KOSHER - PURE
Glycerin Vegetable Kosher USP - 1 Quart (43 oz.)
Teenitor 3ML Plastic Transfer Pipettes Eye Dropper Pack of 150 - Essential Oils Pipettes Dropper Makeup Tool
All from amazon here is a link to the items if you are not sure what some of them are: http://a.co/gOAqSkX
I also plan to order 5 sample size flavors from Wizard labs. All on the suggested "My First Order" list. (Also, a couple of squeeze bottles for the PG and VG)
Am I missing anything, or maybe not ordering the right stuff?
EDIT: Also, what is the best way to try mixes. I am relatively new to the hobby itself. It seems like RDA would be the best option, but I have never used one
Unless you're making 50/50 PG/VG juice you're going to run out of VG long before you run out of PG but other than that, it looks like you're going to be good to go.
Many people prefer to buy flavors from places that put dropper tops on the flavor bottles so they can drip directly into the bottles when mixing and not have to mess with pipettes, but that's entirely up to you.
Does Nicotine River do that? I'm debating to buy my first set of flavors from Nicotine River or Bull City Flavors.
I am new too, been mixing about two months now and I am entirely off store bought ejuice and totally happy with the flavors I vape daily. I am a heavy vaper, so I mix a lot of juice. Wizard Labs is good but if you go to Bull City or Nicotine River you can buy 10 ml bottles from 1.25 to 2.50 Unless of course it is Flavorah or one of the more expensive brands. To make sure you have flavors you can use, find some recipes on Alltheflavors.com and order flavors from one or two recipes you would like. That is the advice I got and I was able to vape my first mix because I chose one of the high rated recipes to go off of, like the other person that commented to you ID10-T has lots of high rated recipes, I have spend so much on flavors now, but I can make almost whatever I am in the mood for that day. I wish you all the best and I think you will love the freedom that comes with mixing your own juice. You have the freedom to mix it how you like it and that is awesome....Great Luck....Kim
Thank you so much for the suggestions! Right now my plan is to buys some flavors that I think look good, and try them out individually. Then when I have done that, my plan is to mix and match and experiment. One of the biggest allures of DIY is the experimentation for me.
Yeah, for testing an RDA is probably your best bet, because of the ease of re-wicking. If you just want to test a little you can even just paint the wick thoroughly. For testing you probably want a single coil RDA that's easy to re-wick and mimics whatever you normally vape in as closely as possible. Be aware that flavor in an RDA can differ quite a lot from that in a tank.
Have you built your own coils at all before? It's not all that difficult to learn, but you can also buy pre-made coils in quite a lot of configurations.

This is me, yes.

maybe someone should update the sidebar. this guide has been updated for 3 months now but I only see the alpha version linked.

Err there was an error with my syntax.
error 69: too faded for English
Alpha is most recent I think the order I posted went beta to alpha. At that point the comments were more important than naming
I probably should re-do the prices n make it mo' better
Ty though
Have a question. I order 3mg in VG and mix with that. Sometimes I add PG,etc...I know it's more expensive than buying nic and mixing it in VG and PG but from a mixing standpoint is it okay?
do not buy pure nicotine. some places sell it but you really shouldn't buy it unless you have a temperature controlled clean room, a fully body hazmat suit and exceptional ventilation. pure nicotine explosively evaporates at room temperatures and will kill you very quickly.
Quick question from a new DIY member. I just ordered all the stuffs to be able to make my own juices, flavors, nic, etc. My question is How do you taste the flavors without messing up the coil you're using? I don't use rebuildable coils, I just buy them and I have no interest in building my own. Right now, I'm using the baby beast smok tank, which is my first foray into sub-ohm after having been vaping since 2011. I know I will end up making a horrendous flavor, but I don't want to throw away a coil when I don't have to. Do I need to buy a bunch of old school cartomizers to use? Or is there another trick to avoid polluting your atomizer with foul liquid?
Hi there, I understand how you feel, I do use drippers but it took me a while to do so but you can buy some of these: https://www.goodejuice.com/ecigarette-atomizers/510-atomizers They are dripping atomizers that just screw on to your mod, you put one or two drops in to it and get a hit or two to test a flavor. Everyone used to use them for testing flavors. Great Luck to you
Vape it all the way down until you start tasting dry cotton a bit, then refill your tank with unflavored juice and vape that. Repeat vaping unflavored juice until you can no longer taste whatever you had in there before.
Question again. What can I use liquid Amber for?
Haven't used it myself but if I remember right it's used for adding warmth. I think I saw it used to make a baked Apple vape.
Check e-liquid-recipes.com
Hello vapers, i have a question, i just started vaping and hopefully i stop smoking cigars, but im a student and find that the eliquids are kinda expensive, i start making my own to save some money but i let the liquids steep for 3 weeks but i dont like my flavor i made: TFA Blueberry Candy: 5% and 13% 70vg/30pg and TFA RY4 double flavor 10% 70vg/30p Any recommendations?
Your best bet is to look for a highly rated recipe that you want to try and order the flavors for that.
It seems you like blueberry and RY4. I would highly recommend u/ConcreteRiver's [Brainy] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/33933#ejm_first_25_brainy_by_concreteriver). It only has 4 ingredients and its fucking delicious.
Did you get RY4 Double expecting tobacco, or did you know it was going to be a sweeter caramel vanilla type of thing?
Hey there - been mixing and lurking for a couple months now.
I made a strawberry unicorn graham cracker mother's milk run-of-the-mill thing (a few times now, actually) which usually comes out pretty good using all TFA flavors. It has steeped for the duration of the 60 mil bottle several times over for about a week or two with no real noticeable change in flavor over time, but it does improve slightly.
yesterday my half-full tank sat in my glovebox during work where it got hot, but not boiling, and HOLY BALLS the strawberry ripe is AMAZING now. Entirely different flavor, and the graham cracker comes right out as well.
So I suppose I heat steeped it inadvertantly? If I were to use a slow cooker bath next time what are your recommendations? warm? hot? overnight? experiment and let you know?
Here's the recipe if you're interested: http://tjek.nu/r/aT29
It's going to taste good now, but heat will greatly shorten the life of the juice.
Nicotine life? It was only about 2ml left in the tank then thankfully. What about formally heat steeping? I can always use the search function I suppose 😃
Heat will make the flavor 'evaporate' very rapidly. What had happened was probably some of the heavy stuff like cream/custard went away and allowed the strawberry to shine a bit. I would strongly advise against heat steeping.
That's just me, imo it goes against what we're trying to accomplish which is something that can be replicated everytime by anyone and always taste the same. The more variables invovled like heat and sunlight will just complicate the process and usually degrade the quality of your product
I found a guy that was going to mix some juice for me and let me trade old vape parts for bottles. Does anyone else do this? He kinda went quiet and all my stuff I'd just sitting here lol

I'm about to make my first juice. Do I need to wash the pipettes and bottles before I use them? They are from Bull City. Also do I reuse the pipettes for the same flavor or trash them? And is does "shake and vape" literally mean just that? How many shakes/is it good to vape after said shakes?
Washing is a good idea but not necessary. I'm assuming you are mixing by weight. Plastic pipettes are not designed to be reused. Toss them afterwards. You can get a giant bag on Amazon for dirt cheap. There is no specific number of shakes. Just shake for a minute or so.
I have a friend who says he thinks steeping does nothing, or at least he's never noticed any difference. He vapes mainly single flavor topping tobaccos (not leafy or ashy). I think it's pretty obvious that 99.9% of people on reddit would disagree. He's also been vaping and making juice (personal) for 5+ years and I just got started vaping and mixing so I don't want to be aggressive and tell him he's completely wrong. I'd rather be able to show him (and see it for myself).
Any thoughts on something I could do to show him steeping does effect a juice? Also he said steeping meant leaving the cap off for a day (although I think this is breathing right?) and then putting the juice in a dark, cool place. Should I tell him steeping does not include breathing or is he correct?
You can lead a horse to water,.....
There's tobaccos that I can enjoy freshly mixed, but they get better with time. Maybe he either starts it fresh and doesn't notice the steeping that is happening (sort of like how you don't notice your hair growing because you see it every day), or he finishes it before it's aged enough to tell the difference. If you're interested in proving him wrong for whatever reason, mix up a bottle of FA Glory at 2% and leave it alone for a month or two, then mix a fresh batch and have him try them side by side. That's the best example I can think of, because I don't much care for it until it's a few weeks old, but then it gets pretty good. Or just let him be wrong and steep your juices however long you see fit. If you're mixing recipes from here or ATF or ELR, there will most likely be a recommended steep time.
do most fruit flavors fade? i mean- i know the answer is yes- but is it normal for them to fade within a week of mixing? it seems like most fruit recipes i mix are good the first couple days after i mix them, and then i'll vape something else for a day or two, and when i come back to the fruity thing i made literally 5 days ago it's flavors are faded and/or muted. i've had this happen with strawberry, fuji, and guava. but not with banana. is there anything that can be done to stop this? or anything i'm doing that's potentially causing it? i feel like i've just started mixing no more than 10-15mls of fruit flavors because i know that's about all i'll be able to vape within a 3-4 day time frame ( i generally don't vape that much and don't vape any one recipe all day, i switch a lot, and drip different things constantly)- is this normal?
Creams and sweeteners can put a damper on fruits.
Try a straight up fruit and/or berry recipe, no cream, and avoid concentrates that are notorious for containing a lot of sweeteners, such as TFA Strawberry Ripe. Use at least 30% PG in the mix, do not apply heat or let it breathe. The sharper notes will take a day or two to mellow down, but after that it should be fairly stable for at least a couple of weeks. After a month or so, some mixes may start to seem a bit lackluster without creams or anything to support it, as the finer notes either blend or evaporate and you're left with the more stable, jammier notes. It's worth noting though that some flavors are more resistant to change over time than others.
Have you tried changing out the cotton before you go back to the fruity recipe? If i vaped some cream, bakery, custard or whatever non fruity i recognized that it highly changes the fruity taste i put in my atty after it.
But all in all fruits taste more distinct before "steeping", after it they tend to blend together more than be a distinct mix maybe thats whats causing you muting.
yeah i usually rewick a couple times a day- there's a few flavors i'll use back to back on because i think they compliment each other but usually i vape a lot of tobacco centric recipes and when i go back to strawberry cream that tobacco cotton isn't gonna work with the strawberry, i know, so i just change it.
it might also be that i rarely actually use the full percentage called for in lots of fruit recipes. i tend to drop almost everything by 1-3% just because i find most fruit recipes to be too intense and harsh on the throat if i don't. maybe if i just use the full called for percentages in recipes and let it sit for longer before vaping it'll stay brighter for longer.
I'm thinking about getting an iCare and some nic salts from NudeNicotine. I was just wondering if 100mg/mL Salts should be mixed the same way as I mix my 100mg/mL nic from Carolina Extracts? Basically, if I wanted 6mg in a 30mL, would I still mix 1.8mL of nic salts?
Also, look into the iCare SC coils becuase the stock coils are garbage. I have some of the SC coils on the way so I'll try to remember to update you in a few days if they're any better
Thanks for this. I'll update my cart now.
The SC coils are much much better at wicking than the ones that comes with the icare. Flavor is just barely better than the original coils. I find one or two flavor juices to work best with it since the flavor is meh. Crank up the flavor percentages for the best experience.
The math checks out, but are you using 6 mg just as an example, or is that your target? I wouldn't think you'd need salts for 6 mg.
I've posted in the clone request but has anyone had kmk I taste guava and I'm getting some guava in the mail and wanted know if anyone has any good recipe or even a clone of kmk it's delicious and it's older brother Korean Jesus which is just a menthol version of it :) any suggestions would be awesome!!
Which guava do you have coming? Guava is one flavor where different brands' flavors vary WILDLY
Hello I am in need of help for a way to make my own ejuice in a easy way. I normally use premium 80VG 20PG or 70VG 30PG Ejuice in my alien 220 with a tfv8 but it costs a lot to keep using good juice. I'm wondering how I could make my own ejuice at home without much cost or supplies. Iv asked a few of my body's and one said I could just buy glycerin from the store and flavouring for cake or something and mix it together with measurements. I was wondering if I bought some glycerin and flavoring and mixed it like 70ml of Glycerin and 30ml of flavoring would it work ? If anyone can lead me in the right direction that would be great thanks!
The best place to start is with the great reading material in our sidebar. Don't use just any flavoring! Buy from vendors listed in the sidebar from companies we trust.
I was gonna buy cake flavoring from a store and do 80 ml of glycerin with 20ml of water with flavoring mixed but I don't know how good that would work
Don't do that. Did you take a little look at the sidebar yet? The flavors we use are pretty cheap so there's no reason to use anything potentially dangerous to try to save money.
The glycerin will be ok if it's pharma grade. But most vendors we use carry exactly what you need so you don't need to worry
Roughly how many redditors visit this sub in a week?
Tryna figure out how many people could theoretically see my post if it were front page all week.
/u/id10-t
Idk y but you can dm if you want
it'd be really cool if we could see
https://www.reddit.com/r/diy_ejuice/about/traffic/
my sub with 50k users gets around 40-80,000 pageviews a month, 10-13,000 of which are unique.
That's your sub? I love that sub! My top post ever on this acct is in that sub.
Based on the top posts of last month I would say about 50-80 unique people on an average week maybe much more or slightly fewer. Thats just based on upvotes.
I'm thinking either a cpl hundred to a thousand noobs like don't upvote
Or it's like the same 30 of us always on +another 30noobs that haven't rage quit/alt-f4'd their account... Yet :[
Or there's like 180 of us and only a 1/3rd are ever on.
Or some combo of all 3.

I want to do my first DIY order. The first two or three recipes will be:
-
Bronut
-
Strawnana Custard
-
'Nana Cream Clone
When i'm gonna order the flavors, how many ml of flavour should i orded? Should i order more ml per flavour in common?
Stick to 10 ml or around that until you know you like the flavors/recipes.
But won't i finish ti quickly? I vape between 3ml a day (maybe less)
10ml will be fine.
for example in bronut's recipe you'd use 2.1ml / 2.18g of chocolate glazed donut to make 30ml of vapable liquid. that means if you get 10ml of everything required you'll make about 150ml of juice. more like 120 with some spare, though.
if this is the strawnana custard you plan on making you couldn't go wrong with 30ml of vanilla custard V1. but even with 10ml you'll have enough flavoring to make 90ml minimum.
and with nana cream you'll have enough to make another 120ml.
the flavors from those recipes i'd recommend getting more than 10ml are:
cap sweet strawberry
cap vanilla custard V1
TFA strawberry ripe
and
LA Banana cream colorless since it's shared between two recipes.
but if you're vaping 3ml a day 10ml will be fine.
Hey,
I bought 25grams of menthol crystals to add in my DIY hawk sauce, because even after letting it steep for months there was no mentholy taste whatsoever.
So anyways it's my first time using these crystals, how much menthol "flavouring juice" i can make with 25grams? I'll be using 70vg/30pg/6mg. Don't have PG/VG.
depends on the strength you want.
i went with pg 3:1 menthol, 1g/10ml, and it came out very, very minty. like vicks vap-o-rub. using this you can make about 250ml of a menthol concentrate that will last longer than a year.
crush it up as best as you can, drop it into a bottle and fill with PG. heat, shake, heat, shake. after that i'd use 1-2% or 1-3 drops per 10 ml in a mix.
if it starts to separate just heat it up and shake it again.
I see everyone saying u need PG but is it ok to just use base?
Few hours ago i added like 0.5g of crushed crystals to my hawk sauce bottle of 25ml with the "hot bath n shake" method. We'll see how it goes.
What is a good flavor to make harsh fruit flavors more mellow. I made the highly reviewed space jam astro from elf.
I recall lots of Will Ferrell in yellow tights, no space jam astro, but to answer your question 1) using less of the flavors, 2) using flavors that aren't harsh to begin with, 3) TFA Marshmallow
Lol thanks. Do you have experience with tfa apple being harsh?
No. I have that flavor, don't use it much but I don't recall it being harsh at all to me. I don't remember anyone complaining about it being harsh, either. It's probably something else in the recipe or your nic or some other issue. But, different flavors do affect people differently, so it could be the apple.
Hey, I recently made "God juice" and its steeped for more then 5 days and tasted awsome and how it was supposed to but when i let my friends try it they said it taste like "burnt popcorn". So i was like wtf and didnt think much of it because i liked it. Well i tried it again the next day and it tasted like popcorn to me aswell. I was eating chips at the time so i took a sip of water and it didnt taste like anything on the first hit and the second was back to that nice strawberry. My friends had also been eating when they tried it so does eating food affect flavour? Thanks
Particular foods can have an extreme effect on flavor. Specifically acidic foods.
I used to drink nothing but coffee and water all day long. I cut back on the coffee and everything tastes much more vibrant.
You're not completely wrong with the direction you were thinking though. Some recipes can be thrown together and released too quickly. Steeping longevity be damned.
What are some must have fruit flavors that aren't strawberry? My goal is to find some good custard, muffin, toast and jam, and doughnut mixes and just sub the fruit to have a different flavors or of the same mix
hi. i just mixed my first juice today. very happy with how it turned out. i couldn't have done in without all of the great info on this sub. my question is what flavors require 'breathing'? i think i read that most flavors dont require breathing but some can get better with? if thats the case which flavor profiles should i be 'breathing'? thanks and i look forward to soon being able to contribute to this sub!
Is there a recipe index type website where you can search/filter total % of flavouring used? I'm extremely pg sensitive and can't go over about 7% pg based flavouring and it's hard for me to find recipes I can work with.
I don't think any of the population sites that has anything like that. Just go to through a couple of popular recipes and try them in max vg.
Can someone tell me a good source of eliquid flavor concentrate vendors? USA domestic.
Guys I dont know what I did or what de concentrate is made from but I am getting little brown spots in my e-liquid. I mix every liquid in my dads lab with gloves on,hairnet etc. I also use usp grade PQ and usp grade VG. The concentrade I used was from T-juice called "green steam".I made a 80/20 Vg/Pg. Is this normal or something to be concerned about ?

Is water contamination an issue? I was mixing a 10ml trial mix and dumped a few drops of water into it when I accidentally capped the bottle with a wet cap. Will this impact the mix enough to where I should toss it, or is it no big deal?
I know Cream flavors need a while to steep, I am wondering, does anyone ever create a bottle of a good cream combination you like, steep it and then use it as a flavor in itself?....Like then you can put 20 ml of fully steeped cream in a bottle add a fruit of your choice and your good to go. Then use the same bottle of steeped Cream to do another fruit or cookie. Just thinking of doing this and wondering if there is a reason why not to. Thanks to everyone for always helping me with all my questions. This is a great community, I love being a part of it.
Doesn't work that way. You don't add finished mixes together. It wouldn't matter. Steeping is the process of the flavors dispersing throughout the rest of the mix. Adding an already finished mix would only dilute the flavor.
I just mean adding like Strawberry flavor to an already steeped cream mixture....no huh...that is too bad because that would be so convenient.
Hey what are some great single flavor recipes? I just want simple and tastey. Is there a thread of single flavor recipes? Trying to save some $$.
INW Shisha Strawberry 3%
DIYFS Holy Vanilla 2-3%
FA Kiwi 4%
FW Blueberry 3%
FLV Pink Guave 2% (gotta love grapefruit tho)
FLV Tricks Cereal 2%
INW Cactus 1%
Just a few that I enjoy when pressed for time....
Where else should I surf to learn more about ejuices?
I found this sub & /r/ejuice ?
Any other good resources?
All The Flavors is a bit more curated than other recipe databases, so the recipes are more consistently good, and looking at statistics there is not as thrown off by people mixing single flavors at 35%.
ELiquid Recipes has a very large and very not curated database of recipes, and very active forums. This sub, alltheflavors, and DIYorDie tend to have a lot of overlap in participants. The forums there have a different set of mixers, often with interesting and different perspectives.
ECF is pretty much where DIY started, and still has an active DIY forum.
DIYOrDieIs a sort of Internet magazine with high production values devoted to mixing. Much of it is pay-walled, but there's a fair bit of free content to whet your appetite.
These are all useful resources, but they vary a bit in tone and content (which is a good thing.) From younger and hipper to older and more technical it runs like this: DIYOrDie > alltheflavors > Reddit> eliquidrecipes > ECF (note that the '>' is not meant to denote quality- just where things fall on a certain cultural continuum.)
It's worth reading the eliquidrecipes forums because there are a lot of DIYers out there who aren't tied into the alltheflavors / Reddit subculture, but are doing interesting things with flavors that aren't trendy here at the moment: see the thread Everything Floral there. If you want to learn much more than you ever wanted to know about magnetic mixing from a former engineer who rambles on a good deal, this is the place for that.
And if you're going to be mixing a lot you're going to inevitably need to think about how to deal with tasting a lot, which means not just thinking about having a few RDAs, but thinking about how to build them and how to wick them and... for that ECF is the place. If you ever want to build tensioned coils using an artistic jig ECF has an 82 page thread started in late 2014 and last posted in yesterday for that.
Wanting a cheesecake to put away to age. Everything I have that might fit.
Cap New York Cheesecake
TPA cheesecake graham
TPA Bav cream
FA Fresh Cream
TPA vbic
tpa vanilla swirl
TPA toasted marshmallow
TPA marshmallow
INW biscuit
Cap Sugar cookie
FW Yellow Cake
Followup questions .. Can I use by shiny new Holy Vanilla in this? For strawberry - TPA strawberry or Ripe or both? At what percentages? Thanks. I'm not a tinkerer, just like things to work.
Bit of a niche question, but is there any program/website that'll tell me what the best flavour to get is to make the most recipes? I use eJuice calculator which tells me which recipes I can make from my current stock, but want a way of telling me which flavour (or flavours) I can restock that will allow me to mix the most recipes, if that makes sense.
EDIT: Thanks for help, didn't explain very well. I meant eJuice Calculator specifically. I managed to sort it by creating a custom spreadsheet in eJuice Calc and sorting the ingredients by how many recipes they're used in.
You can look up the flavor on ATF or ELR to see how many recipes it is used in, but that won't really benefit you. Recipe first, then buy a flavor. Not the other way around.
Ya that's what I do. But over time I've run out of quite a few flavours. I'm going to restock but want to maximise the amount of recipes I can make again with the minimum amount of flavours. Might not be possible, just wondered if it was.
