For my first mix, I made New Amsterdam Vape's: Strawberry Cream.
I can't taste the strawberry in it (EDIT: at two week steep)--I'm not even sure what I'm tasting tbh. If I hit it enough, I get a sickly sweet feeling in my chest without even really tasting the sweetness. My room definitely stinks of strawberry afterwards though.
In case it was just the mix, I tried a friend's Modus Molly (a sour strawberry), and I couldn't taste the strawberry in it much either. It didn't occur to me to have him try my strawberry mix at moment as it didn't dawn on me that maybe it was my own sense of taste.
I did taste a lime mix of his to test my build, and the lime really popped out strongly.
Anyway, I want to prove it to myself if it is or isn't the case, so I was thinking if I should just do a %5 70/30 (VG/PG) single flavor mix of TFA's Strawberry Ripe to settle it.
- If I do that, and I still cannot taste a strong/popping flavor of strawberry, will that be proof enough?
EDIT: I made 3x60mL; one initially, and the other 2x a week and 2-3 days after.
I tasted the first one at two week steep yesterday, and it's kinda lame (to me) since I can't taste the Strawberry. I'm going to wait another week or two and see how it turns out.
EDIT: I passed it around to enough people that say that they can definitely taste it. Most folk couldn't decide. I could taste it a bit more after I had eaten something very sugary (as similarly suggested in the club thread).
I'm pretty sure that I'm someone that can't taste it. I'll have to try some suggestions though.
I can't taste strawberry (ripe) at all either, and I can't properly taste any other strawberry. It was such a letdown as my first DIY attempt was the much promoted simple strawberry and cream recipe. Don't mind anyone telling you to do things to the mix, they're not getting what your saying, that it's literary 100% absent from the finished mix, rather than flat or muted, and it's bloody weird, cause strawberry (ripe) smells, so it's definitely in there.
I know it's a letdown but I would try starting again with a different profile, sucker punch, snake bite, lemon biscuit or raspberry ice cream are all simple and popular mixes you could look at. Alternatively look for a strawberry you can taste, but honestly that's intricate and time consuming when you then have to learn to sub it into mixes you can't taste, better for when you have a few recipes you can vape under your belt.
Your not alone, I can not taste Strawberry's at all, I give up now and replace with something else.
I saw a thread dedicated to it The "I can't taste strawberry" club, but I don't think that it explained if there was any measure to know if you are or aren't part of it.
Seems pretty simple. Can you taste strawberry in a vape? Y/N
Strawberry ripe isn't strong or popping. I would be surprised if I could taste it as the only strawberry in a cream mix. You've got to use it around 4% and add another strawberry. My favorites are
-
2% FA strawberry with 4% ripe
-
2% JF sweet strawberry with 4% ripe
-
2% RF strawberry with 2% strawberry ripe
Strawberry ripe is a great and useful ingredient but it's just not enough on its own
So it's not worth doing a single flavor mix for testing to see if I can taste strawberry?
Yes but I wouldn't use strawberry ripe as the test subject because even people like me who love everything strawberry vape related can't taste it well by itself. I've also yet to use it above like 4%. It contains maltol which can make it mute its own flavor if used too high%
I would recommend any of the combos I mentioned without any creams and see if you can taste it.
Or if you want to test single flavor you can try 3% of TPA strawberry (regular one), 2-3% FA strawberry or my favorite standalone right now 2% RF SC strawberry.
This recipe for Sweet Strawberry Cream is the best strawberry cream I've tried. Like many others, it uses a careful blend of multiple strawberries; in this case it is
>FA Red Touch (Strawberry) 0.5
INW Shisha Strawberry 2.0
TFA Strawberry (Ripe) 3.0
OP, give this one a try if you're wanting to do more experimenting with TFA StRipe
Shisha seems like a good answer for non tasters of strawberry. I never loved it though and when I ran out of my 10ml I never bought it again
I second this recommendation. This recipe is what made me finally understand strawberry and creams. Cheeba Steeba is an awesome mixer and many of his recipes are bangers.
I don't taste the strawberry per se, but o do get a berry like sweetness out of strawberry ripe. Shisha strawberry was my savior.
Do you just sub Shisha Strawberry 1:1 in recipes?
Personally strawberry ripe is better as a way to sweeten and add a little bit of candy affect to a already fruity mix.
A few other people in this thread say don't use it over 4% but I use it in a cheese cake and in a weirdly specific nectarines candy at 10% and 7% respectively
Damn, it's the top note to New Amsterdam Vape's beginner recipe: Strawberry Cream, and I can't really taste it.
I don't know for certain why it is that I couldn't taste it in that mix.
I've seen prepped a 10mL single flavor test batch for each part of the recipe to see what the deal is.
Try fa red touch or jf strawberry sweet. I have a tough time with tfa strawberries but red touch + jf sweet strawb combo has been a godsend. (Also perfect with tfa banana cream or ripe banana for an incredible strawberry banana with a little berry zing).
Tbh this doesn't need tested it's been proven over and over and over.
I can taste strawberry for like the first hour then it goes mute. I actually had this happen with watermelon recently but I had to vape a shitload of it before it muted.
