Can someone recommend some "fresh" tasting fruit recipes? Tired of all the sweetness...
submitted over 8 years ago by Puffster28

I love a sweet tasting fruity juice, but from time to time i'd like something that tastes fresh. With fresh, I don't mean menthol or koolada, but something more acidic and not overly sweet.

For example real passion fruit is very to slightly sour at first, even bitter, not sweet. Yet every juice with a predominant passion fruit flavor is super sweet. Same goes for most fruit flavored juices.

I'm not a recipe writer, i don't have the knowledge yet to disect and combine all flavors, but i love to mix existing recipes. When I do I often skip the sweetener, even though it effects the fullness of the flavor. I've tried adding sour in certain mixes, but it doesn't give the desired result.

Can someone point me in the direction of some good fruit flavored juices that aren't sweet as syrup? Or what can be added to juice to achieve a more natural balance of sweetness, instead of a candied version?

Ever try melon flavors? They usually aren't sweet or intense making it easy to vape them all day. Here are some notes on what I've tried. All of these are what I currently use for melon vapes everything else out there I've probably tried and don't like.

INW Melon - Cross between a honeydew and normal melon

INW Watermelon - My favorite watermelon flavor; not candied at all

FA Cantaloupe - Plain cantaloupe flavor; very strong

FLV Cantaloupe - Brighter and creamy undertones; very strong. My favorite cantaloupe

JF Honeydew - Natural and not nearly as intense as TFA's version

CAP Cucumber - Strong, bright and watery

FLV Wild Melon - Must have melon flavor; watermelon and honeydew

Sadly if there's one fruit flavor that ruins every juice for me it's melon. But it's mainly cantaloupe, watermelon I like. I'm interested in the wild melon though! Thanks!

That's too bad. FLV Cantaloupe is magical.

I forgot this in the list but you might also try out FLV Mango if you like that flavor. It's by far my favorite mango flavoring.

I'd add INW Cactus to this list, not a true melon but tastes like one.

Passionfruit stuff is sweet because without sweeteners or other sweet flavors it can get really weird.

If you want more 'natural' tasting stuff go for

  • FA watermelon

  • FW blood orange (natural)

  • FA lime Tahity

  • RF SC strawberry

  • FA bilberry

  • JF juicy lemon

  • TFA pear

  • CAP canteloupe

  • FA banana

  • INW dragonfruit

  • INW white grapefruit

Edit; chewy's suggestions are great

Thanks, that's a nice list and something to experiment with. Blood orange and lime are favourites of mine, so I'll search in that direction

Try one of these. These are some flavors my company retired a few months back, great flavors though!

Melon Berry

6% Watermelon (LA)

3% Forest Fruit / Forest Mix (FA)

1% Strawberry (HS)

2.5% Blue Raspberry (FW)

Fruit Punch

2% Golden Pineapple (CAP)

1% Orange (FW)

2% Papaya (TFA)

2% Blue Raspberry (FW)

3% Ripe Strawberry (TFA)

Nice thanks for the recipes. Have everything in house for the fruit punch, except for papaya. A bit worried about the 3% ripe strawberry though as it tends to make stuff pretty sweet tasting imo. I like the flavor though. Gonna put some papaya on the list of flavors to buy.

How do you think melon berry would be with RF strawberry in there instead of HS?

Never tried RF strawberry, I use the HS because it has a unique taste unlike other strawberries I've tried. By itself it has a candy like strawberry taste that's not too sweet, but when mixed with the other fruits it has a naturally sweet and juicy taste.

RF is a extremely authentic fresh strawberry flavor. I havent used it much though. Is the strawberry note more in the back or is it a main part of the flavor profile? Just asking so i know how i should translate percentages.

Great suggestions so far. If you're looking for straight up recipes that conform to this profile, I'd suggest checking out some of u/Philosaphucker's work. These are my favourites that are very "fresh" tasting, without being overtly / unnaturally sweet.

I have to find a source for inawera around here. Ordering it from the US costs me a fortune and I haven't come across them on my regular sites. But I've come across enough recipes with their flavors to start ordering some.

Thanks for the recipes, I'll definitely took a good look at them and try some.

Where are you based? Some Inawera concentrates are more difficult to find than others. I've ordered some of the more obscure ones direct from Poland, and not had any trouble getting them shipped to the UK.

I'm vaping this at the moment:

INW Shisha Strawberry 0.3%

INW Cactus 0.2%

FA Kiwi 3.5%

FA Fuji 1%

50/50 blend is not sweet at all.

The best way to reduce sweetnes is to go easy on VG if that is an option for you. PG will bring forward more natural notes.

Generally FA and INW fruits are pretty realistic.

I'm not a big fan of PG though, but I've thought about the same thing. I usually shoot for 70/30 as I like that consistency best. But in favor of flavor I might look into it. Thanks for the tips!

Unfortunately, for me it was the only way to really subdue the sweetness. Just taste some VG and you'll get the idea. It is used as a sweatner in cooking.

I don't mind it in desert vapes but I use mostly tobaccos and sweetnes really bothers me. I have used FA Bitter Wizard or MTS with moderate success, but those are meant to be used with tobaccos primarily.

If you are used to flavorings made in US and high VG content, you might be satisfied with 50/50 blend and European flavorings.

Yeah, I'm gonna vape some pure VG when I get home tonight to see how sweet it tastes on it's own.

I just mixed all the berry concentrates i had (inw & tfa raspberry, cap blackberry & harvest berry, assorted strawberry but i went light on it to let the woodsier berries shine, tfa blueberry) with a small few drops of fa mild winter and white winter. Its a really fresh berry flavor with some tang with a bit of minty bite and just a subtle sweetness. I dont even pay attention to %s really.

Also a melon cucumber mix withyour choices of cantaloupe, honeydew, tiny bit of watermelon, cap cucumber, and some koolada is PERFECT. Seriously.

If you like lighter less sweet flavors, these with max vg are just fine. Amazing shake and vapes with a different twist, taste and smell great.

You cant really go sweet with eliquids without the candy aftertaste you are talking about because at the end of the day we are still mixing flavors and not the real thing(real fruit juice). Maybe you can start using stevia instead of sweetener since some people say it tastes more natural but Im still a ehtyl maltol fan after trying stevia many times. I made very recently a nice Mcintosh Apple recipe on youtube which is not too artificially sweet and more fresh apple taste now for spring weather. Im dont like spamming, if you are interested click on my name its the 5th last post I made.

Ya stevia sucks even in food. McIntosh the computer brand? How does that even taste like?

Haha no man its an apple, imagine a compute juice like iOS 10(cap) 2% mixed with TFA motherboard.

It fascinates me how taste is so subjective.

For me Stevia is the only sweetener I can tolerate. The rest either leave horrible after-taste, or come off as cloying.

This is true for me with not just vaping, but also with food and drink.

I've had drinks and chocolate bars with stevia and it always tasted really flat like aspartame to me. But ya everyone tastes different.

I find stevia rough tasting but ya its all personal. In vaping I cant really taste it so I use it if I have it around.

Macintosh from Apple was named after the apple fruit by one of it's designers.

My favorite fruit flavor is Fuji. That shit is crisp, and tart, throw in some TFA Pear(3/4-1)for a bit extra juicy.

Edit: FW Blood Orange is quite true to life and tarter than sweet. There are quite a few good lemons as well FA Lemon Sicily all day.

There are some great recommendations here - I'll add only FW Tangerine to the list. It is a STRONG flavor, I'll use 6 drops in a 30 ml. A drop or two will add a tartness to other fruits, and it's also really good with FW Rockstar.

I'm new to making my own e juice, but I bought a few flavours from tfa and need a good recipe to start vaping!! I have:

TFA Apple TFA Blueberry TFA Pie Crust TFA French Vanilla TFA Sour

Please help...

I guess you bought these flavors for a reason? Either you like them, in which case you can start experimenting, or you have a recipe which asks for them, so you can start mixing.

If you had read the topic text, you'd know I don't have the experience to mix flavors. I follow recipes, so I can't help you.
