I ordered 120mL of this because I was running low on the TFA version based on great reviews. I made my usual recipe for strawberry ice cream but I can't vape it at all. It tastes and smells like play-doh! What's with that? Does anyone else have the same issue?
Unrelated, but maybe I just have weird taste buds... I can't vape strawberry ripe because it tastes like sour milk.
Let this be a lesson for you to never buy a large amount of a flavoring you have never tried before.
Lol yup I definitely learned that. Oh well.
Dont feel bad, man. I have 30ML bottles of FW Cookie Butter, TFA DX Sweet Cream, TFA Vanilla Gelato, TFA Butterscotch, TFA Hazenut, LA Banana Cream (ylw version), and TFA Double Chocolate Dark that don't see the light of day.
I do get what your talking about. I wanted to love it and there is portion of the flavor that I do like but I do get some weird "play-dough" off notes as well. I haven't tried TPA's version but I am tempted to see if I like it better. I get the same notes off of CAP Vanilla custard version two...it just doesn't taste good to me. Its like vanilla with this layer of other things happening that I don't find entirely pleasing. It caused me to put that profile away for a while until I can re-visit some other concentrates. I also don't like strawberry ripe in my strawberry milk recipes. I prefer the regular TPA Strawberry like the fizzmustard version. Strawberry ripe is thin by itself and tends to fade if not supported with another strawberry in my limited experience.
Some people apparently find the TPA version peppery. At 4% I didn't really notice it. I can kind of tell how they would find it peppery though. Some are so sensitive to it that even 1% tastes bad to them.
Yes, I have heard that...so the choice is "Play-Dough" or "Pepper"..hahaha...I will go with pepper I suppose. I honestly get better results using some creams like bavarian cream/sweet cream/and fresh cream. I believe LB has an ice cream that is pretty well respected. It is crazy how we perceive things differently.
The recipe I'm using has VBIC, Bavarian cream, and strawberry as the main notes. It tastes wonderful using TPA, not peppery at all to me

I honestly don't know how much the dragonfruit really adds to it, but I enjoy it.

There's also FW VBIC which I find to be pretty good myself. I taste more vanilla in FW's. Have to use more and seems a bit sweeter to me versus both CAP and TFA. But then, there are those that say FW's isn't as good as either. It would be great if everything tasted the same to everybody, but there's the whole 'subjective' deal...
I don't get playdoh but I definitely agree there's a similarity to the CAP Vanilla Ice Cream and the vanilla custard... And I HATE CAP Vanilla custard, both versions. It's unfortunate because I really wanted a sub for TFA VBIC because I am one of those that gets a pepper note from it... but it seems like the CAP won't be it.
I LOVE HOW YOU all capped the hate. Hahaha...I liked the looks of Freshs' ice cream base he posted up except for the CAP V Custard portion which I believe was down low at 1%. Whatever is in CAPS formula runs in both the ice cream and custards...sometimes I can't tell them apart quite honestly. I have seen you talking about some of the Molinberry stuff perhaps one of their vanillas as part of a simple base?
I think it's Capella's vanilla TBH. I can't stand their French Vanilla either. I've since repurchased TFA VBIC... I've read of some people getting over the pepper note if they continue "vaping through it". I have found that I don't get the pepper note in ID10_t's Longing recipe.. so I'll just vape that and see if the pepper note eventually goes away. I have also recently ordered Liquid Barn's vanilla ice cream because people rave about it. If all else fails, I have OoO Vanilla Bean Ice Cream which is good but it's just not the same.
I've heard a greasy taste from it but not a play-doughy taste. CAP Glazed Donut has a pretty funky play-dough smell to me, but tastes good in this one recipe I used it at 3.5%. Personally have no CAP VBIC, sorry.
Sometimes Strawberry (Ripe) also taste weird to me before steeping a while, not sure what that's about because many use it in SnVs, and I've also SnV'd with it at 6%+, There's a high ammount of butyrates in Strawberry (ripe) which help to contribute to that "fresh" taste, similar compounds are related to sour smells in spolied milk and vomit, (yuck), luckily it fades away for me.
I have a small bottle of Strawberry (ripe) at 10% I mixed many months ago I could try again. It's mixed at 6mg so I'd have to dilute it down to 3mg. Maybe it tastes better at 5% after steeping.
I would try it! I haven't done much testing to "narrow down the bad tastes" per say, but I can definitely stand most Strawberry recipes after 2\3 weeks, and as shake and vapes depending on what they're mixed with.
I don't taste any off notes from CAP VBIC. Make a small single flavor mix and see what you think of it.
I love the stuff , no off notes at all for me either . It get's stellar reviews .
Is it simply interchangeable with TFA or would it throw a recipe off/need percentage adjustments?
I would consider buying some Real Flavors Vanilla ice cream and French Vanilla , someone around here said it was the best by far.
It definitely doesn't taste like play-doh. This might be a long shot but can you try it after you shake the bottle of VBIC?
I always shake the flavours before adding them to a mix. I tried half a tank of a mix I made about a month ago and it is the same thing. I added half a tank of my strawberry kiwi mix to see if that helped, but there was still an aftertaste. The initial taste was really good though
