Neat trick for removing drip tip from bottles
submitted about 8 years ago by notko

You know those hard to remove drip tips that you have to dig your fingernails under to pop off? Not sure if it's common knowledge, but my friend showed me this trick to remove it easily and I thought I would share.

You simply put the main cap on without twisting it, push it to the side, and the drip tip will pop right off with no issue. Here's a gif if my explanation doesn't make sense.

E-cig Express bottles already come with the tip removed and stuck in the cap for you

Haha. This so much. I end up just replacing the caps with one of mine

That's only happened to one bottle from ECX in my experience. I looked at it closely and discovered that it was broken, so replacement seems like a good choice.

I've had an issue with the threading on the caps on probably 3-4 bottles.

Great, now I have a cap with a drip tip stuck in it.

Twist it back onto the bottle and the drip tip should be back in place

Except if you're a flavorah bottle then you need a pair of pliers to get it out.

I used to do this on generic bottles, but it doesn't seem to work on chubby gorillas

I use a butter/table knife on chubby gorilla 60mLs.

Well-timed tip. I'm working up a few new iterations of a not-quite-right new flavor, all I have on hand are Chubby Gorillas, and I'd hate to throw out a bottle that I only put 30ml (the smallest amount I can make with some of these flavor %s) into if the next batch turns out gross.

by RearEchelonabout 8 years ago

Glad I could help. I recently got into mixing and ordered the gorillas kind of randomly because they were the first 60mL bottles that popped up on Bull City Flavors. I don't think I'm going to order them again, though, because they're clear. I think I'm going to try to find something more opaque next time.

Why dont you make 10% dilutions of the concentrates, then it will be easier to make a smaller batches.

I.e. Rich Cinnamon usual u need 0.25 %. A 10% dilution will make that 2.5% which is much more manageable. This will mean you can make smaller testers.

You pretty much need a band saw to get into those things.

I usually don't push the tip down all the way on them. It doesn't affect the seal at all.

I had a bad experience once filling my tank when the tip of the unicorn bottle blew out and I ended up with juice all over my hand, my mod, down my shirt…it was a hot mess! Didn't think I was squeezing it any more than usual, and I was always mindful to check and make sure the tip was firmly inserted. Don't know why it happened, but it sucked. May have been a complete fluke but I trashed that bottle and got a new one just in case.

I'll have to be careful of that. I can't decide if I actually like the chubby gorilla bottles. Plastic is a bit stiff for my tastes, and the thing with the tips being so hard to take on and off is a big downside.

I just get the pliers out, but this seems easier.

Just pinch it and pull, use a tissue if needed.

That's what she said.

Pliers are easier, no risk of losing the dropper in the cap.

That feels like a good way to break a nipple (twss), however, I've not tried it so I will reserve my judgement for after I've tried it a bit to see.

I will, however, lend my own tip (hueh): if you're used to opening a beer with a bic lighter, you know most of the gist. You don't have to use your whole hand lie you do for a beer but use the edge of the actual cap to dig into the side of the dripper nipple thing and pry it off. Mind you, this only seems to work with flavor bottles or old school PET juice bottles. YMMV I suppose. Carry on.

I do this all the time by accident and it drives me nuts!

by Lurking_Stillabout 8 years ago

This also will depend on the type of tip used in the bottle. Some slide into the bottle, some have a lip that snaps over the mouth of the bottle itself.

For those skinny unicorn bottles, it definitely does work.

by XoMxctedabout 8 years ago

The gif is good for people that don't know, but you should try by lifting the cap up to the lip where you put your finger nail. Once it's there grab it with you hand and slightly pop it to the right. If you do it like that I never had one that gets stuck or goes flying

by dutchahabout 8 years ago

I always pull those off with pliers. Wiggle it around, careful with the pulling and presto, it's off.

1 points

by Widner7about 8 years ago

I thought that was how everyone did it!

1 points

by DJDaddyDabout 8 years ago

Shit, I always just grabbed it with my teeth and pulled it off, though I only make juice for myself, so I suppose that's not really an issue

1 points

by mlNikonabout 8 years ago

I just ordered some bottles from liquidbottles.com and the tips come already stuck in the caps so you just have to screw the cap on and the tip gets put on such a neat concept.

I broke a bottle this way. I just use my pocket knife now
