ATF: MVP

#All the Flavors: Most Valuable Players

This is something a bit different. I wanted to create a recipe with only flavors that most people already have, as a kind of challenge. This started a brainstorming session in which i stared at my collection on ATF, looking at the number of recipes that the flavors i had were in. I wrote a short list of flavors that were used in over 3000 recipes on ATF, the "MVPs", at the most commonly used percentage and narrowed it down (after a small amount of adjusting) to this final form:

  • TFA Strawberry Ripe: 4%

  • TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream: 3%

  • CAP Vanilla Custard v1: 3%

  • CAP Sugar Cookie: 3%

  • FA Fresh Cream: 1%

  • FA Meringue: 1%

So the notes on this are less of a "what i was going for" and more of a "what had happened was..." so here it goes:

I mixed this at 70/30 VG(ECX)/PG(Essential Depot), with 5mg/ml nic (ECX 100% VG), and steeped it for two weeks.

This tastes like straight up delicious strawberry shortcake ice cream, with a hint of sugary milk from the bottom of a bowl of crunchberries. the Vanilla Custard gives its rich mouthfeel, the Sugar Cookie becomes shortbread chunks, the ice cream does its job as advertised, and the Ripe Strawberry works like a charm. None of that should come as much of a surprise, as you already have and use these flavors often. Fresh Cream and Meringue do an excellent job as accents here; boosting milkiness and sweetness respectively.

I hope this gives other people ideas on how to "mix outside the box."

At the end of the day this is just a run-of-the-mill strawberries and cream, but what surprised me most is that developing a recipe in this odd fashion actually yielded a delicious recipe! I know you all have these flavors, so mix this up and tell me what you think!

This is partially like the opposite process we go through for Awesome Box planning. A few popular flavors to tie it all together, but I need to aim for the middle of the curve so more people get flavors they don't already have, while still making it cohesive and incorporates whatever the vendors want to emphasise in the box.

See also: The Average.

You could also use Hot or Popular to do something like this, but while "Top" is pretty self-explanatory, we might have to get /u/queuetue to explain the difference between hot and popular.

Top: Most used in recipes, from all time.

Pop: Most viewed, from all time.

Hot: Most viewed, in the last week.

I've always wondered about that. Thanks for clearing it up!

I saw that recipe right after I posted this! The main difference is the Bavarian cream in The Average, and he used the average % vs my adjustments. It's a cool concept IMO, if I had seen that one before I might have gone an even more different route with this, but as it is I think it's different enough.

Adjusting the % feels like cheating :P

Just kidding :)

It feels like way easier than a bunch of %s like 3.14. I'm pretty sure the calculator rounds for you anyway, to a certain amount. I know you were kidding but I still wanted to explain my reasons for doing that

It's a neat idea for a different way to answer the question, "What should I make?" I hope, as you do, that it encourages other people to find different ways to answer that.

This sounds great. I'm missing the two FA flavors though (I'm still newish to this). Need to make another concentrate buy, but low on funds at the moment. Will try this ASAP.

Fa meringue is one of those flavors that won't disappoint you if you get the big bottle. Very versatile flavor for sweetness that doesn't overpower or kill coils.

This will still be good without the FA ingredients. It won't taste as sugary or creamy, but still tasty!

Edit: you should still pick up those flavors when you get a chance as they are very commonly used. That's why they are in the recipe!

If you have an account on all the flavors I would appreciate if you would leave a review there also!
