Thanks to the everyone who joined in last week's Flavor of The Week discussion about Apricot flavors.
As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

That TFA Papaya is strong stuff; use with caution in more ways than one. It can take over your mix, and if you spill it, good luck getting rid of that funky musk.
But people have had some great success with it. In a Godda Da Vida by /u/mlNikon didn't win because it was in the first round and not the final one, but it was a number of people's most favorite recipe to come out of the second DoD mixing comp. That recipe inspired /u/notcharlesmanson to create Notorious, which he asked me to help name. Of course helping to name something obligated me to try it (plus, it looks really tasty), so I was forced to order FA Honey. I haven't gotten around to mixing either of those yet but I'll shake them up tonight so I can them try them during Papaya week.
I don't know about that 5/5/5 Monster Melons clone thing. I haven't tried TFA Cantaloupe yet. Is it really able to save a juice from 5% TFA Papaya + 5% TFA Mango, which sounds plain awful to me?
My own flavor notes about TFA Papaya say it is full-flavored, sweet, and juicy, with no dryness, floral quality, or perfumy-taste at 2%. 1% was about the same, only weaker. At 5% was like someone decided to make "rancidly overripe tropical fruit"-scented soap. It was not fun to vape that. At 2%, it had a very slight, interesting warm spice note present throughout most of the exhale and then a very sweet, very juicy finish.
FA Papaya was incredibly sexy in /u/philosaphucker's Banmanaya and I'm interested in trying his recipes that pair it with FLV Pink Guava and with INW Pear. For fun, I tried subbing TFA Papaya for the FA Papaya in that Banmanaya recipe... at the same % (I'm sure it would have worked better if I'd lowered the % for the TFA version, but that wasn't the point, I wanted to see how it fared as a 1:1 sub). Short version: The original was like having sex with a beautiful girl who can’t speak English. The TFA version was like having her get angry and start shouting in German and throwing fruit at my face. That is not my fetish.
FA Papaya is strong too, in that very little is needed to have an authentic-tasting papaya-forward mix, but it seems much less apt to steamroll over other flavors than TFA's. It's less funky than TFA's. According to my notes, it really has that pulpy flesh quality to it. Dryness and an unpleasant floral perfume aspect start to become a problem above 3%. At 2%, it tastes like a cross between cantaloupe, mango, pineapple, and fig, just like a papaya does. One of the biggest differences to me was that TFA's version tastes more like it's part honeydew melon whereas FA's tastes like it is part cantaloupe. FA is missing the bit of creaminess of a perfectly ripened papaya, though. It has that same very interesting sort of warm spice note that TFA has, that I can't quite put a name on, but only the very end of the exhale. YMMV very much. I can't remember seeing anyone else use the word "spice" to describe those papaya flavors, so maybe there's something off about the way I perceive them?
I really like the monster melons clone! It's definitely too strong, but the papaya tastes great to me.
Do you just lower the %s across the board?
I lower the Papaya to 3% in monster melons and sub in 2% FA Meringue and 1% Marshmallow. It's a huge improvement on the original recipe.
The 5/5/5 thing isn't toooo bad, it's a little strong overall still could prob be toned down to 4/4/4... But I feel like it actually makes sense why it's so well recieved because even if you use one of those shitty tanks with little flavor, you'll still be able to taste it we'll.
> The original was like having sex with a beautiful girl who can’t speak English. The TFA version was like having her get angry and start shouting in German and throwing fruit at my face. That is not my fetish.
What does that mean though?
I couldn't exactly understand that hint of an exotic earthy tropical spice note I got from the papaya and how it worked with the banana and mango. But the flavors fit together perfectly. The whole thing was immensely pleasurable and satisfying, not despite my being unable to understand it, but in part because of it.
Then when I tried it with TFA Papaya at the same %, I still couldn't understand it, but it wasn't so sensually pleasing anymore. The other fruits were still present, but the papaya had taken over and smashed them, destroying the beauty and balance of the whole thing.
It looks like you're trying to mention other users, which only works if it's done in the comments like this (otherwise they don't receive a notification):

###Description
> Source: The World's Healthiest Foods: Papaya
Papayas are fruits that remind us of the tropics, the regions of the world in which they are grown. Once considered an exotic fruit, papayas' rise in popularity has made them much more available.
Papayas are spherical or pear-shaped fruits that can be as long as 20 inches. The ones commonly found in the market usually average about 7 inches and weigh about one pound. Their flesh is a rich orange color with either yellow or pink hues.
Papaya has a wonderfully soft, butter-like consistency and a deliciously sweet, musky taste. Inside the inner cavity of the fruit are black, round seeds encased in a gelatinous-like substance. Papaya's seeds are edible, although their peppery flavor is somewhat bitter.
###Flavor Pairings
> Source: Bake It Right: Flavor Charts
> Did some excelling on this to pull tertiary flavorings. So for instance Papaya Mixes with Banana, Papaya mixes with Bourbon, Banana mixes with bourbon, so you got three flavorings as a base there.
What's wrong with your list? It looks so funky on mobile
I was using reddit's sublists. I changed it to save space and hopefully easier reading.
/u/ID10-T , this week's title is such a stretch, lol.
I have nothing to offer with papaya but maybe add Bilberry to your odd berries week?
My team of title writers is already freaking out about what the hell they're going to do about next week.
Are you looking to figure out what to do with Bilberry, to share a recipe using it, or ?
I have a question I mustachio. What's the deal with pistachio?
truth be told I am bored and was attempting to suggest flavors you may have missed but I see I should probably keep my trap shut bc you got it covered like a Jimmy hat!
Go here: https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/wiki/index/flavor_of_the_week
Make a list of the ones that are terribly outdated because new concentrates have been released or "discovered," or because groundbreaking recipes have been created, or because they're just plain old. Anything short of 6 months is not old and we won't be repeating those yet, anything over one year is definitely old and ready for revisiting, and there's a grey area in-between where we'll revisit them if there's a reason to. Figure out which ones are ready to be repeated and make a list of them. That would alleviate your boredom and be, at least by FOTW standards, heroic.
i really, really suggest everybody to try this out because this is my favorite juice of all time and cloning this juice (by DNA vapors) was the reason i got into DIY in the first place.
Backyard Boogie: 6% TFA papaya, 3% FA pomegranate, 2% TFA dragonfruit, 1.5% sweetener (if you want)
What kind of equipment are you vaping that with?
troll v2, 22g kanthal 5 wrap
I think something's probably wrong with my bottle of TFA Papaya or the way I taste taste TFA Papaya. On the other hand, all three of those other ingredients look like they might be an effective antidote to papaya problems. How would you feel about vaping 6% Papaya all by itself?
An Actual Papaya Recipe!
This started life as a clone of Adirondack - Cayuga and turned into what I consider my first major success about a year ago. I've tried tweaking the formula numerous times but always come back to this. If I had to pick anything I've ever DIY'd, original or otherwise, to vape for the rest of my life it'd be this.
- TFA Papaya 3%
- INW Mango 3%
- INW Pineapple 4%
- TFA Kiwi (Double) 2%
- FA Kiwi 1.5%
- TFA Dragonfruit 2%
- FA Fuji Apple 2%
Papaya, Mango, Pineapple are obviously part of Cayuga. When I first got into DIY I was diehard into Inawara flavors. For good reason, they are absolutely amazing. Pineapple is a great example of an Inawara flavor that can work at 1% up to 7-8% without turning on you like a cat you pet one stroke too many. Seriously, try it sometime. TFA Pineapple, ehhh, much too sharp. Almost stings in comparison to the smoothness of INW. For my money there's no other Mango like INW Mango. Usually quite active at .5-1% but here it is the star. Good ol TFA Papaya though, I fell in love with this as soon as I bought it. It adds a very robust body to this mix filling the middle section.
Kiwi and Kiwi TFA Kiwi (Double) is the juicy succulent middle section of this combo and FA Kiwi is the bright flavorful top note. Very different compounds on their own and accomplish different things. Kiwi is the other obvious flavor in Cayuga and I tried hard to come up with the perfect combo. On their own they just don't do it and FW Kiwi... Better to forget I even have that flavor.
Dragonfruit as usual acts as an emulsifier and serves to blend the otherwise pushy fruits into a cohesive unit. Forget EM, this is where it's at.
FA Fuji Apple This shit is like my secret weapon, it goes into almost all my fruit mixes in some percentage. Sometimes it's totally overwhelming at 2%, sometimes it simply fills in the cracks you didn't know existed. Here it does the latter. It is the final top note to this juice, a little pinch to let you know you're not dreaming.
Remove or swap ingredients at your own risk. Not saying it won't taste better or worse, but it will definitely taste different. Oh, and to make the actual Adirondack Cayuga, simply replace INW Pineapple with TFA Pineapple. Shudder That shit is awful. HATE TFA Pineapple.
Replace INW Pineapple with TFA Pineapple 1:1?
It seems like it ought to be a crime to ever do that.
Im so down to do this, but i think 1:1 will be a little too tart so maybe 2% TFA and 1% CAP Golden Pineapple, will report back how it is!
Really excited for Shisha week, I came to vaping from Hookah and I'd love some shisha flavors!
Added that to the list at someone's request, but.... I'm not really sure that there's something in particular that makes those INW Shisha flavors "Shisha" other than just an oddball naming convention or marketing attempt by INW. I don't know what exactly is going to be going on that week, but it should be interesting.
I'm hoping it has the slightly burnt/charcoal flavor you get from Hookah. There's not much tobacco flavor itself in the flavor overall but that smoky BBQ-y flavor that underlines it is what I miss.
The INW Shisha line doesn't taste anything like that. I don't know why they call them that or if they even have a logical reason for doing so. But you can certainly use that week to talk about that! It's ok for FOTW's to veer a little off topic.
Oh a possible suggestion for the week after Pie Crust could be 'stones' such as yogurts/custards/creams as a stone and not an individual flavor? idk
Are you cool with just having those in with the individual flavors they fit, like, yogurt stone in yogurt week, custard stone in custard week, etc? Or do you really, really want to see a week of them?
No, a "stone" week would be totally good. It could produce a ton of new recipes. For example: I've used a basic stone with VBIC and VC1 with all of the 'berries' from previous weeks. That FOTW thread could reference trying a stone w/ previous FOTWs.
IDK if I'm making sense.
My simple recipe that I have defaulted to for the past 3 ish years or at least since I started diy. (All TFA mind you.)
- Papaya-5%
- Mango-4%
- Pineapple-3%
Nice and easy. And every now and then I like to add about .4ml Peppermint in a 30ml.
Simple tropical fruit blends can be so satisfying. Have you ever tried adding any kind of cream to that?
I think a nice cream and FLV Wild Melon would be great with this!
I made this a while ago (in vape time) but I remember it being good. It's the only recipe I have with papaya and I only have tried FA Papaya. It's an odd tropical flavor. Hard to describe.
1% FA Mango
2% FA Cantaloupe
2% FA Papaya
I would describe the flavor of this and tropical and fruity. I would give it a couple of days for the mango to calm down. If I were to remix this today, I'd probably use Sweet Mango by Capella instead, at 2%
