London Haze: Vanilla Earl Grey Tea
submitted over 8 years ago by HashSlingingSlashur

Inspired by the description for Londinium by Roman Haze. I've never tasted the original but this blend is truly delightful. An earl grey tea true to it's name, doused with a lush vanilla cream. I wanted to make a simple recipe that delivers flavor that will keep you coming back, on to the recipe:

  • % Vendor Flavor

  • 1.1% (FA) Bergamot

  • 0.5% (JF) Lemon Juicy

  • 0.25% (TPA) Marshmallow

  • 0.75% (INW) Shisha Vanilla

  • 1.75% (FA) Tea Black Water Soluble

Development Notes:

Earl Grey Tea Base:

FA black tea/FA bergamot/JF lemon juicy

  • FA black tea can be very dry and unpleasant at higher % but here it sits perfectly (and gets help from the other ingredients). I found that 1.5% was not enough for the tea to shine through, so I landed at 1.75% and it is juuust right.

  • FA bergamot is for the bergamot oil on our tea leaves, 1.1% is right where I want it. We want to avoid the bergamot becoming overpowering or spicy but we also do not want to lose it in the mix. JF lemon juicy is here to provide juiciness for the whole recipe while adding a lil something to the bergamot.

Simple Vanilla Cream Base:

INW shisha vanilla/TPA marshmallow

  • I wanted to make this more of a thick vanilla latte feel rather than vanilla and milk. INW Vanilla Shisha was the first thing that came to mind when I was thinking of doing a vanilla earl grey tea. It's got a deep, lightly earthy vanilla flavor that compliments tea and bergamot so well. The first version used 1.5% shisha and it was too much vanilla imo. I also tried using Holy Vanilla but that version was not as satisfying.

  • Instead of getting complex with the cream base I decided to keep it simple and attack the main problem child here: FA bergamot can be rough around the edges so I landed on TFA marshmallow to complete the cream. This is such a useful ingredient and here it was the last touch to the recipe, it brings the citrus down into the body of the mix and allows for the black tea to shine through on the exhale. It's also adding density to the delightful shisha vanilla and helping with the dryness of the black tea. Marshmallow is adding a great amount of sweetness which makes this mix all the more comforting. (cannot sub any other marshmallow, this one does too many things here)

  • These two ingredients provide a solid cream base and a perfect pairing for Earl Grey Tea.

There you have it. 5 ingredients, right under 5% on flavoring. This is a recipe for tea lovers, cream addicts and vanilla heads alike. I think this is something that anyone can enjoy and I hope that you do! If you've had the real Londinium let me know how this one stacks up!

*Before anyone asks, the only sub I can see working is for another lemon flavor, maybe. There is absolutely no other vanilla that will taste like this one, so that's out. I think all these ingredients are vital but I understand that no one has all the flavors. I hope you do have these because it's fuckin tasty.

ATF link so you can mix it up

Edit: said the twice in a row

Also I've been mixing everything 65/35 including this

Lowered % on cream base

Gotta say I have none of these flavors but this sounds amazing. I would definitely buy a premixed concentrate of this just to test it out

Making concentrates would be awesome.

For now you can order it as an e-juice at VapeChemy

I was surprised they had all the flavors for this, I added it today after seeing your comment.

Wow that site is pretty cool, prices aren't as bad as I'd have guessed either. Unfortunately I have no cash for the next few months at the very least but I am tempted... thanks for the link so I can try some if/when I get some walking money.

I love the simplicity of your choice of flavours

Thank you. I think these few ingredients result in a complex taste in the e-juice. Sometimes when things just click, you don't need to get all crazy with ingredients. I wish this was always the case but sometimes you do need 8+ ingredients and other times 2 or 3 might work. Thats part of the beauty of what we do; especially when you begin to get to know your flavorings and can make them work together. I think a good vape should evoke feelings and this one just makes me feel good.

If you've got the goods to mix it up please let me know what you think!

(also shisha vanilla+bergamot are doing most of the work to make this taste super complex but they're just being efficient at what they do.)

Mmmmmm can't wait to get home from out of town to mix this. I've been watching for a good earl grey tea recipe.

So this is super good. The Bergamot and lemon needed a little boost for my own tastes, but this is really really good even after an overnight steep. The tea starts to settle down and the more subtle flavors start to come through.

Awesome recipe. Thank you.

Thank you very much and I'm glad you enjoy it.

The main reason I share this is so those who take the time to mix it be rewarded for their time in the form of deliciousness.

if you're on ATF leave a review it would mean a lot! I gotta remember to post these on ELR too

This sounds absolutely amazing! Does the shisha carry subtle tobacco notes?

I was never a smoker (vaping helps me control my appetite and I used to smoke weed, so I enjoy the act of hitting a vape), didn't even really like hookah, but ironically I LOVE tobacco juice flavors.

This is something I'd definitely like to buy or make once I'm back home.

Shisha vanilla doesn't really carry a tobacco flavour, rather it's a thick sweet vanilla cream. The bergamot is a bit spicy and the tea has a bit of a gritty note to it that you may enjoy as a tobacco lover though. i'd still try it!

Sorry, dumb question, what brand is JF? Can I sub for CAP Lemon?

Jungle Flavors, available at ecigexpress

i've not used CAP lemon but go ahead and use it at the same %, I hope it goes well!

Fair enough, I normally shop at ecig, but they are out of the Shisha.

I'm really excited to try this recipe, thank you for posting!

Cap Juicy Lemon should sub just fine. You may bump it up a half or as much as a whole percent.

I've been playing around with this profile for a bit, never any real success.. I'll definitely try this as it looks very promising, and I have all flavours except JF lemon, so i'm going to use Cap Juicy lemon at 1%. Thanks for posting.

definetly let me know what you think, I'd sub it 1:1 at first, you aren't supposed to taste any lemon in the recipe.

2 points

by Nosasoundsover 8 years ago

I mixed this 1:1 with lemon sicily instead and as a shake and vape it's nice but a little bit dry, I think the black tea needs a good steep to shine as it tastes a bit like dirt as a s&v. I'll come back to this in a week! thanks again for the recipe.

Definitely, thanks for trying it out.

Lemon sicily is just not as juicy as JF lemon juicy, it really helps with the dryness. Lemon sicily reminds me of a lemon bakery/icing taste while lemon juicy is actually like lemon juice which is helping to battle the dryness and spice of Bergamot/Black Tea. That little bit of juicy lemon takes this recipe into the next level flavor town.

I have to agree, I actually don't like FA Black Tea all that much but I was determined to make good use of it. This is imo the best application of black tea that I've yet to try.

Did you use CAP or FA lemon Sicily?

Hey, you might (not) remember me from a recent new mixers thread. I just got into DIY & this was the first recipe I tried. Made up a 30ml batch by volume (yes, I need a scale). It was very good, but I knew it could be better due to my inexact measuring. A few days later, I made a 100ml batch being very careful with the percentages. Wow! This is now my ADV. I've tried it in mtl flavor & high watt setups, great in both. Almost too good, I'm vaping more than usual! I never tried the Roman Haze version, but I used to love the earl grey by Northland. This recipe blows that version away. Between this & switching it up once in a while with tobacco blends just to keep it interesting I think I'm set. FYI, I subbed CAP Juicy Lemon at 1:1 & it turned out great for me, although as recommended I wouldn't sub any other ingredients. Thank you so much for sharing this great recipe!

TL;DR: Try this recipe. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks so much! I'm really glad to hear so many people are loving it. It's definitely one of my best recipes and I kind of made it for everyone else, I rarely vape it anymore but I have a bunch of friends who beg for this stuff. If you don't mind, leave a review on all the flavors or eliquid recipes if you ever have some time! :)

Reviewed at eliquid recipes. I don't facebook so I couldn't review at ATF ): I would sing this recipe from the mountaintops if I could, everyone should try it.

What's your steeping plan for this flavor? Do you breathe it, and what would say for minimum steep time?

Just mixed it up... Smells amazing after a good shake, but, I'm sure it's going to need time. Thanks for sharing!

2 points

by HashSlingingSlashurover 8 years ago

No breathing. I never breathe anything I mix. It's a good shake and vape honestly but a week and everything settles in. Hope you like it!

Woke up, wake and bake, hot coffee.... fill up an RTA with London Haze (smelled so good, I didn't even both with demo'ing on an RDA)... step outside with some fresh snow.... Mind blown.

Dude, this juice is on point. Many thanks, I am... highly impressed. This may be in my top 5 of all time juices I've tried. (granted I'm new to mixing, but, I've been vaping for a year so, I've tried a fair number of other juices, especially commersh). To anyone else reading, way worth it to have the exact recipe.

If I buy an ATF account (been considering it, the free one is way crippled) I'll leave a review, it's 5 star material. I found that I like this vaped a little warmer than usual for me. The bitterness of tea is so fucking perfectly balanced on this, it's... extremely well thought out. It has that linger on your tongue like after a sip of tea that's just so accurate. Really REALLY smooth.

Mixing a 30ml.... right... now.

Wow thank you so much for the kind words. I'm really happy that you dig it, I think it is one of the most interesting juices I've tried too lol. It's well balanced, not too dry or juicy and I find it very comforting.

ATF account is definitely worthwhile, it's my favorite mixing site by far. If you do leave a review I thank you in advance because that's like the ultimate sign of appreciation.

Thanks again for the comments , hopefully I can follow this recipe with another banger !

Awesome, thanks Hash, was hoping to follow the same plan. I'll at least give it an evening.

I just mixed this up with one substitution: all I had on hand was LorAnn Lemonade or TFA Lemon Cookie, so I opted for the LorAnn. Right out of the gate at 65/35 at 5mg nicotine this is extremely, extremely satisfying. The taste is dead on to a nice cup of Earl Grey, especially with temp control dialed in.

Man, this is good. Excellent, excellent job. I'll be ordering some Lemon Juicy to see if that makes a large difference, but as it is it's more of a background note to round out the bergamot.

THANK YOU!

Thanks for trying it. I'm really glad you like it!

The lemon is supposed to be kind of undetectable its just making the recipe more juicy without distracting from the bergamot. JF lemon juicy is one of my favorites I highly recommend.

Thanks again for your comments, take care

I second this! I'm halfway through 30ml after a 2 1/2 day steep. I couldn't wait the full three!

I'll be mixing up 90 ml tonight. This is the first DIY that I'll be making a larger batch of, thank you so much for posting!
