Hi All,
I'm having a problem with my DIY juice. I'll mix it up adding NIC, PG then flavours which I let sit for around 20 minutes before adding the VG and then shaking the hell out of it. I'll then try and leave at least 3 days steeping before vaping.
My problem is that my flavours always seem very muted, even after a good long steep. I'm using mostly CAP, TFA & FW flavourings so I don't think its the flavourings themselves. I keep to between 15% to 25% flavourings dependant upon what I'm mixing but I never get a good strong flavour.
I've been thinking and was curious to find out if most of the online recipes are built for RDA consumption. I use an RTA (Smok TFV4 RBA coil 24g Kanthal 4-5 wraps 0.40 - 0.45ohm build) and if the lack of flavour is due to my hardware. I'm considering going towards an RDTA and picking up the Aromamizer V2 but wanted to get people's opinion before I drop £30.00 on one.
Thanks All
25% flavouring is quite a bit. I hardly ever go above 10% myself. It could be that you are either using weaker flavours, or that you are not applying enough power to your coils.
I don't have experience with either the TFV4, or the aromamizer v2, so I can't help you with the difference between those two.
Post the said recipes or no one will be able to help you.
If you normally get decent flavor with your tank before than it's your recipes that are the problem. My guess is you're using too much flavoring. If you use too much it instantly mutes as it overloads your olfactory receptors.
People first starting out have a habit of adding more flavor than needed to get a "stronger flavor" which usually is the opposite of what happens.

Perhaps instead of stickying the Weekly mixers thread we have a "ALL NEW MEMBERS GO HERE" topic where it has link to the work-in-progress FAQ, other common topics, then the weekly new mixers thread for anyone who still has questions. /u/ID10-T

Each flavor has it's own window of percentages. 15-20% used to be common for most recipes because most of TFA's flavorings are weaker. Nowadays it's probably about 5-15% average, but it's totally different for each recipe, there's no point in thinking of recipe making that way.
It sounds good, but if they're not going to the New Mixer's Questions thread, what makes you think they'll go in great numbers to that?
People tend to just glance over new things because they aren't familiar with them. It sounds dumb but people don't look well enough.... actually that sounds pretty correct. People don't look well enough ever.
The weekly new mixers thread's name is:
- "Weekly New Mixers Questions Thread - Week of March 27, 2017"
Looking at that quickly I notice the first word is "Weekly", and theres a specific date on the end. At first glance I would say it's reasonable to assume this is a specific thing with people who know whats going on in it. (my own interpretation)
If I read two words it's "Weekly New", nothing. "Weekly New Mixer's" So it has something to do with what a "Weekly New Mixer" has. Am I Weekly New Mixer?
I dunno, what's a weekly new mixer? Sounds like a club. "Weekly New Mixer's Questions" at this point it's obvious, but your brain has to do a tiny amount of legwork.
Now let's look at a different idea. "READ HERE FIRST BEFORE POSTING"
It's all caps so I'm drawn to it. "Read" tells me what to do. And that thing I need to do is read. "Read here" reinforces "read". "Read here first" reinforces and tells you the first, so "right now". "Read here first before" oh jeez, before what!? "Read here first before posting." Okay, got it!
It's overanalyzing sure. But it all makes sense I feel.
Sorry, forgot to add the recipe I'm working with. Going for a creamy key lime biscuit - Bavarian Cream 0.3ml, Biscotto 0.45ml, Key Lime Pie 1ml, Sicilian Lemon Cream 0.3ml, Sugar Cookie 0.15.
We don't know your percentages without a batch size. Assuming this is a 10ml batch, write the recipe like this:
Key lime pie (brand name) 10%
Biscotto (brand name) 4.5%
Bavarian Cream (brand name) 3%
Sicilian Lemon Cream (brand name) 3%
Sugar cookie (brand name) 1.5%
This makes the 22% flavoring obvious, which is a bit high for subohm use. I'd recommend getting it down to 15% to start, and with two creams plus key lime, up your steep time to two weeks to start. I'm working on a key lime donut that needs at least 4 weeks to steep. If you find the key lime diminishing after a longer steep, actual lime juice can be filtered and used in small amounts (1%ish) to liven it up, though I'm sure citric acid will work just as well.
Check out the format others have used to post recipes. Edit your main post with that. Make sure you include flavor brands
It's probably the RBA. If you want flavor, get an RDA. Fasttech have cheap, high quality clones.
If you let your pg and flavors sit for around 20 min with the cap off the bottle you could be letting all the lighter volitiles escape which tend to be the top notes of your flavor. Also the juices could be over flavored which leads to muting. Normally when I see a recipe that uses 15% or more, I will cut everything in half. Less is more.
