Lots of "premium" juices are loaded with sweetener, it takes a while to get used to that being out. Unless you are using it then idk

TFA Sweetener is a mixture of sucralose (5%) and maltol (5%). Maltol can enhance sweetness of some flavors but will also mute flavors. Your commercial juices are probably using either a 10% Sucralose solution or CAP Super Sweet which is 20% sucralose, more than double the the sweetness of TFA Sweetener.

The fast food analogy is very apt because once you eat homemade food for a while you adjust to it and when you try fast food again after a long break from it, it tastes disgusting.

20% overall flavor is not too much if it tastes good do you. It's your juice, you're the only one it has to taste good to. Depending on which flavors you're using, it's on the high end of normal, but not abnormal. Sometimes less really is more, though.

If you post up what you're making someone might try to give you a pointer or two bringing out the flavor in them.

I'm fairly new to diy also so can't offer any solid advice, but I use capella super sweet to sweeten up my mixes. from what I've heard it's double the sweetness of tfa/tpa sweetener. I see a lot if posts saying 20% is too much flavour, I've mixed lower percentages but found them quite bland so I tend to mix anywhere between 15%-20% overall flavour. I guess it comes down to personal taste, and what setup you're running

Did you mix the exact same recipe? No substitutions? If yes, sounds like an issue with your CAP Sweet Cream. You could try taking the percentage down to 1 or just leaving it out.

You don't really need to be worried about the Double D's. If at this point you don't know what exactly they are, and you have been vaping for awhile, don't be too concerned. There was lots of fear mongering going on surrounding those ingredients, with research to refute the scare tactics.

Start with the single flavor recommendations given to you by LB. You shouldn't have to change that amount. And steep it if it needs to. Don't get excited and try it before it's ready. Don't add anymore flavoring to the completed mix. You would have to make another one.

2. there is no reliable way to speed steep. Time is the only good option. Exposure to heat may damage the flavor. Leaving the cap of can let the more volatile flavors escape. Both are possibilities but both have been shown to lower the quality of your final mix. Search for "speed steep" on this sub. But, again, the only good option is to have patience or mix something that you can shake and vape like most fruits. Try grack juice. Every new mixer should, I think.

3. some people use fa meringue for a sugar coating flavor. Marshmallows are good for a fuller feeling and sweetness. Ethyl maltol is also good for a candy/sugar flavor. It's used in cotton candy flavors. It will mute fruits. Search around and you'll find more.

1. You could do that, but it won't be nearly as good as when the fruits are mixed and steeped with the custard. Your fruits would likely overpower the custard if added after the custard steeps. Top notes like fruits get mellowed in a steep, allowing them to fold into the custard better.

2. Time. Don't fill your bottles to the very top, so you have some room for shaking the juice. Then just let them sit; speed-steeping generates sub-par results.

3. IMO, none. Sucralose is kinda the quintessential sweetener.

Well, flavors and nicotine and the whatnots in juice are just chemicals. When you mix chemicals, you get chemical reactions. Some of those chemical reactions cause color changes. Hope that answers your question!

You are on the right track.

You should add PG to bring your juice to 80/20.

You should stick to one concentrate, not because you're new, but because you should get a feel for your flavors individually before you start mixing them together and potentially wasting them.

Some flavors are more concentrated and should be used at lower percentages than others or they will taste terrible.

Try Absinthe at 3%, Black Cherry at 3%, Blackberry at 1%, Waffle at 5%, Beetle Juice at 6%, Blue Ice at 4%, and Rice Krispies at 7%.

That should give you a good idea of whether you even like any of these flavors and which ones, if any, you want to mix together. If you catch the mixing bug and want to get more flavors, check out the "My First Order" link in the sidebar.

You can post in the Suggest A Recipe Thread if you want suggestions for recipes. I'll warn you in advance though, those are not the greatest flavors. That's probably why your friend gave up. Percentages will depend on the flavor. You will need to do some research on the most used percentages for the flavors you have.

Look for "botboys guide to mixing by weight" over in the sidebar. Or search it here. The scale mentioned there is the one you want. Around 30 bucks. I have used the same one almost 2 years now. Be sure to get a calibration weight with it.

The scale recommended to use is the American Weigh Scales LB-501. It's not expensive

if you're running into a problem with this you can either make larger batches or make a dilution. the first is easier.

Did you try it at a lower percentage? I don't have that flavor so I can't help with pairings but I will say that each person will have a different experience with each flavor. If you don't like it maybe you can't fix that with anything. It might be better to spend time testing other flavors and mixing up other people's recipes to see what combos you like.

Is it cloudy or has it crystallized? You would know if it had crystallized as you can actually see it. What percentage did you use? Mixed menthol liquid doesn't tend to do this. Usually you only see this problem when working with actual Menthol crystals.

try cap super sweet. as a last resort fw sweetener. be careful with this one as it's ~40% sucralose vs tpa sweetener is 5%

Malaysian eliquids tend to use WS-23 and not koolada. I've recently purchased some WS-23 powder and diluted it to replicate the Malaysian style cold eliquids and it's fantastic.

The "correct" way is whichever way works for you. That's what makes DIY so awesome!

But, 12% is really high for almost all flavors. Some flavors that taste wonderful at half, a fourth, even a tenth of that would taste horrible at 12%. Are you diluting it if it tastes disgusting and then trying it again?

Personally, I don't find too much of a difference. However, there are others who would say the exact opposite. I would recommend you to mix up 2 two 10 ml bottles of a recipe you know, one at 70vg and one at 60vg.

Taste is very subjective, so find out if you like it better. Take that dive and experiment!

Edit: I will say that I typically mix fruit flavors at 70/30, and my bakeries and custards at Max VG. Higher PG tends to sharpen the fruit flavors, and higher VG tends to smooth out the bakery and custard flavors, in my experience.

The ratio solely depends on what equipment you are vaping on and personal preference. You obviously don't want to be vaping 50/50 on an RDA or an RTA. All calculations are easy if you are using (and you should be using) a juice calculator. We work in percentages for a reason.

I've separated my LDPE bottles into two categories: Fruit and Bakery. Anything fruity goes into the bottles labelled "F" with a Sharpie on the bottom and everything else goes into the "B" bottles(I'm a frickin' genius, right?)

So far, I've had the same bottles go through 3 wash cycles of wicked hot tap water with unscented dish soap. I fill my sink with hot soapy water, then toss the bottles without the cap or drip tips in and squeeze the air out of the bottles. I toss the caps into the wash water as well, and place the drip tips into a tea-ball before placing them into the wash so that I don't lose any. I let the bottles sit and soak for 5-10 minutes, then empty the sink. I dump half the soapy water out of each bottle, then give a vigorous shake and dump the rest. I rinse all of the bottles VERY well, ensuring that there is no more soap residue, then rinse the caps and tips and allow everything to air dry.

I'm on a fixed income, so I try to reuse whatever I can wherever I can. Hell, half of my bottles came from my orders to TBD Liquids! So far, I haven't had any cross-contamination that I can taste, and all of the bottles seem to be holding up well.

Best way? You don't. Plastic bottles aren't meant to be cleaned and reused. As you have mentioned, they retain the scent and flavor of what was used in them previously. Plastic is meant to be tossed. Get glass if you want to reuse your bottles. You can try soaking them in vodka overnight then letting them dry out, though

Do not heat them in a crock pot or breathe them. This will just ruin them.

Dripping is the same thing as using a tank, except that you apply the liquid manually. This allows you to swap flavors much more conveniently. For quickly tasting a lot of different flavors you either want a really short wick or a wickless build. Some like to drip all the time as RDA's are generally, but not necessarily, superior in flavor production.

Personally I only drip when I have no clue what something will taste like, so I don't have to clean and rewick a tank if it's bad. When working on a recipe I prefer a good tank, for a multitude of reasons.

So I've kind of answered your last question already, but using an RDA, it won't matter if it tastes bad, it's easy to move on. Cleaning a tank, I pick it apart and rinse with water. To get rid of really foul tastes, you may need to use alcohol.

Don't overthink things, just take the plunge. But start small.

Order some base liquid (PG, VG and nic), some flavors, some bottles and a way to measure (a syringe to get your feet wet, a scale if you're serious about this). After you've tried it out, you'll have a far better idea of what you want and need to order. Now you can scale it up a bit. But don't order large bottles of flavoring until you know you like them and will use it up, or nicotine until you know the quality works for you.

As for what flavors to get, the "my first order" flavors are the most common ones, flavors most people like, and thus easiest to find recipes for. It's a better route though to find some highly regarded recipes that appeal to you and order those flavors, but no more than 15-20 on a first order.

Sure, you can order hundreds of flavors right of the bat, spending hundreds of dollars right away, but you'll still only have a fraction of what's out there and more importantly, you'll have no idea what to expect if you've never mixed before. And that is why starter kits are generally a bad idea.

When I started, I looked at the highest rated recipes on alltheflavors.com and chose 5 that looked good to me. Then I just bought the flavors for those. I did that a few times and built a nice selection of flavors over time.

I would try FA fresh cream as a sub first in this one. It will probably still turn out pretty good but if you like creams I highly recommend checking out FLV cream. FLV to me is the creamiest while still neutral out there to me (with FLV sweet cream being slightly more neutral since FLV has a slight spice to it), followed by FA fresh cream, which is fairly neutral and creamy, but a little thinner than FLV.

The milk & honey is the real star hear so I imagine a sub will still leave you with a pretty tasty Jews.

Since you're subbing out the cream though I would def recommend adding the optional 1% meringue to it as well

I don't have access to FLV, but FA Fresh Cream might work based on the review.

What percentages have you used it at?

If your nicotine is good quality, so you don't waste a bunch of base, it's actually a good idea. It indeed extends the shelf life. I wouldn't make it quite that low though, some flexibility is good in case you want it slightly stronger or more flavoring or whatever.

One downside is separation. It's less of a problem at low concentrations, but you still need to shake the nic a bit to avoid hotspots. With large amounts of VG, this becomes quite a chore. I much prefer PG for this reason, and smaller bottles of a bit stronger nic. 25 mg/ml is the sweet spot for me, and I make 1-2 mg/ml juice most of the time.

With a good squeeze bottle and knowing the fill line, you can just add the VG last, no need to measure or weigh. A lot of bottles hold more than their advertised size, 10 ml bottles can hold 12 ml for example, so measure and mark it up in advance.

Condiment bottles or you can try a funnel. In the meantime, measure all other ingredients first, then fill bottle with vg. That should be good enough.

I personally pre-mix all my bases at 2.5mg/ml so the end result is somewhere between 2 and 2.5mg. I just sell friends a 10ml bottle of 100mg so they can spike it up themselves.

Everyone I mix for is at the same level or I just mix the outliers on demand. But if I were going to be mixing a bunch of different nic levels from the same batch, I would leave out the highest amount of nic that someone would request.

Example: For a 500ml batch (70/30VG), let's say 6mg/ml is the most anyone asks for.

• 350ml VG
• 45ml PG
• 75ml Flavors (15%)
• 30ml Nic (100mg/ml PG)

Leave out the 30ml of Nic and add the equivalent back when making smaller bottles.

For a 30ml bottle:

• 28.2ml of the 500ml batch

w/either

• 1.8ml Nic for 6mg
• .9ml Nic/.9ml PG for 3mg.

That would keep the added nic from affecting the ratio or flavor.

Ditch the syringes and mix by weight. I know it's obvious but you did not mention bottles so you need those. If you are planning on using it you will need PG. Condiment style bottles for your VG.

I would suggest 5% standalone and 3% in a mix.

0.5-1% is good for me. 2% is good buts its really strong dripping 50/50 shake n vape.

I'm not aware of any calculators that have an option for pre-mixed bases. Your best bet is to set the nic field to 0, check Max VG and add in your flavors. It should tell you how much base (listed as VG) and how much of each flavor to add.

The only store bought juice I've ever has was Placid. So it's hard for me to know what recipes to try. Everything I do seems to have either TPA Strawberry or Ripe and I want to break out of that mold.

I believe a steep or a sweetener may be necessary because it was a very weak and dull flavor but I'm not sure.

If you really want a bold Raspberry, INW is that. Very strong tho, even .25% makes itself known.

Most concentrates just don't stand well on their own, regardless of percentage, it will almost always be lacking in some department. But you can get pretty far if you combine it with another, so try to pair it up with something that you think might make it "vibrant".

I'm a very very poor student and have been buying sub-standard e liquid as I could only afford the very cheapest possible. I know that DIY is going to save me an absolute ton and the e-liquid I make is going to be infinitely better.

I've just spent ~£30 on a very simple set up to get me going. This is the breakdown:

• VG 100ml: £2.99
• PG 100ml: £2.99
• Nicotine 50ml: £5.99
• Scales from ebay: £3.85
• Flavouring (4 different TFA/CAP flavours at approx £1.80 each): £7.20
• Accessories (gloves, pipettes, bottles): ~£7.00

I'm going to start off making Mustard Milk which is a very popular but very simple liquid that only requires 2 flavours. The first thing I'll run out of will be VG and that will be after making 210ml of Mustard Milk.

I currently spend around £8 for 50ml e-liquid (and that's pretty much the cheapest, worst e liquid possible. This means I spend 16p per ml. The 210ml of e liquid which I can make with this £30 set up will cost me 14.3p per ml.

So I will have already saved money even with this first batch. Of course if you're buying more expensive e liquid the saving will be much bigger.

I will continue to save much more money over time as I can re-use the scales and bottles.

My recommendations would be to save money wherever you can. Make sure you're buying your nicotine, VG, PG and flavours from reputable companies but try and find savings on accessories such as scales (although they do need to be accurate), gloves, pipettes, syringes etc. Secondly, start out with only a couple of flavourings. You don't need a ton to start mixing. No problem with PG. If you are worried about it just run hot water while you are doing it. Why are you throwing away your PG and VG?

I've used it twice, no problems with a pepper flavor. I'm using the 24 mg/ml strength though.

I'm never tried it, but most people recommend numerous other vendors before using nic from there; there have been some reports of nic that arrives either already oxidized or that oxidizes quickly. Oxidized = peppery and harsh no matter where you buy it from.

Don't mix in a water bottle.
