Has anyone switched to non-diacetyl flavours completely, and is loving it?
submitted over 8 years ago by skijumper97

Capella VC v2, TPA Bavarian Cream DX, TPA Hazelnut DX, TPA Caramel Original DX - All of these taste so much better - less tangy, more flavor.

Absolutely loving these non-diacetyl versions and not just just for the safety reasons although even that's relative.

You're the only one I heard saying that

I did the opposite. I used v2s and dxs when I first started. Then I said "screw it" and replaced them all with the real thing. Best decision ever

Just did this recently... I had no idea TFA Bavarian cream was supposed to taste like it does, I cant get over the butyric acid taste in the dx version

Sorry man, smells like vomit to me. But good to know at least some folks like them.

I've used a few DX and luckily, the only vomit one I have that affects me is DX sweet cream. Juicy Peach, Bavarian Cream, and Caramel (orig) luckily arent that way to me. I'm generally a v1 person, v2 for those of my friends who are adamant.

I wish I could like it, or maybe it's just a mental thing like I have with eating liver. I just can't do it. I've stopped smoking for my health and I get that Vaping is better but it would be even better if I could also stop putting stuff like this in my body regardless of how safer they are than cigarettes.

One step at a time I guess.

To me Diacetyl tastes absolutely disgusting, I get very strong nausea from juices containing diacetyl. Can't vape them at all.

But I also don't like most V2 flavors. The ones with butryc acid taste like vomit. All others are ok.

So I am mostly in fruits and drinks. No creams, milks, custards for me.

Why the downvotes? How is that my fault?

Do you think I like getting nausea? People sometimes...

Don't sweat the downvotes man, it's just Reddit. People downvote when they don't agree.

Sincerely, a diacetyl fan.

by Ernie_is_deadover 8 years ago

Yeah I don't really care about the votes.

I am more pissed that I can't vape the good stuff. I keep trying to find a creamy / milky vape that I like, but no luck so far. Next batch is waiting in the post office already, the missus just went to pick it up.

Maybe this time there are some nice flavors...

Getting downvoted is a good thing , it means you got balls and say exactly what you think regardless whether if it's the popular thing to do or not .

NEVER let the fear of being downvoted alter what you want to say, NEVER.

You are a real person who thinks for themselves .

I always get downvoted because i always say exactly what i think whether people like it or not , do i care ? Not even a little bit .

The whole diacetyl scare is just that, nonsense. The only popcorn lung cases were few and far between for people who were actually making popcorn! Diacetyl free is just like gluten free. It's a complete waste of time to convince yourself it tastes better because it doesn't. All of the symptoms you were experiencing were placebos.

This.

Ppl are showing me articles about it. I asked everyone of them, "where is the fact about smoking?" Not once did it show cigarettes having at least 10 times the amount in those biased articles.

Some findings found it was 750 times lower than regular cigarettes.

No. There was a case about 2-3 years ago at a coffee manufacturer where all of the staff involved in toasting the beans got popcorn lung from the hazelnut flavoring they were using.

Please do not spread misinformation when you are misinformed. You are free to vape whatever you want, but don't justify it by minimizing the concerns of others.

Edit: Fucking Googles, how do they work? "popcorn lung hazelnut" http://scienceblogs.com/thepumphandle/2013/04/30/flavored-java-coffee-bean-workers-and-deadly-lung-disease/

I vape diacetyl and I can barely vape anymore.

I've always had problems with my throat, and this doesn't mean that diacetyl did it, or even that vaping did it at all.

Just point of information.

Also the whole cigarettes having x amount more diacetyl is misleading, that study was done with very old style vape devices. Like nanocoils and clearomizers, a TFTV4 would definitely outpace that setup by quite a bit.

DX sweet cream is amazing

I still use diketones in my creams, but have been on a fruits-only binge for the past 6 months or so, all diketone free.

No regrets. I'm not even sure though, if diacetyl is bad or if it's propaganda.

Propaganda.

Diacetyl is bad ... very bad. We just know know at what levels. That's what's still up in the air.

by shooshmashtaover 8 years ago

If this were true, then why aren't we seeing cigarette smokers getting popcorn lung since it has more than 10x the concentration?

Won't find much diacetyl in fruits anyways.

Some I like DX, some I don't. I prefer DX Bavarian Cream, but I can't do without acetoin or diacetyl in things like Peanut Butter and graham crackery flavors.

You just listed 2/4 flavors I use in my personal ADV of 2 years. The other 2 are Banana Nut Bread and Banana Cream DX.

by PerennialPhilosopherover 8 years ago

Soooo... 1/2?

1 points

by aenigmeover 8 years ago

Sure. But "half" of what? So, that's why I listed "2/4".

1 points

by PerennialPhilosopherover 8 years ago

I'm just reducing your fraction. If you wrote it a different way I wouldn't have noticed. It's like an ocd move.

I use 99% FA flavors, so I'm already mostly diacetyl free. The only flavor that I currently use that is chock full of diacetyl is Brown Sugar Extra. The DX version tastes like complete shit. But since I only use that in 1 flavor and at 1%, and it's absolutely essential, I just deal with it.

1 points

by NeuroApathyover 8 years agoMixologist

what recipe do you use it in? i havnt found a good use for it yet

Peanut butter. I use a modified Hic's peanut butter as a pb base for my adv.

I use only diketone free flavors, but seldom do I use v2s or dx's. Tpa and capella do not do diketone free very well imo.

First time i bought CAP VC it was v2. Used it a lot - I don't get the vomit aspect of butyric acid like many people.

I did finally break down and bought some v1 VC and have been 'meh' about it. I've done no rigorous testing, but i swear v1 takes a lot longer to age into "perfection" compared to v1.

I mean, I've noticed i can happily vape something with v2 a lot sooner. Like, a week steep. I've made stuff with v1 and a week in thought "meh", and put it in the back of the shelf... Tried the v1 juice again a month+ later and "oh wow! This is good now!"

Bottom line: when i see a recipe use a v1 flavoring, i mix with that. If I like the recipe, I'll mix it again with v2 and judge which i prefer...

1 points

by BlazeDemBeatzover 8 years agoMentholatier

I go out of my way to order V1s because I use onestopdiy for most of my flavoring and they don't really carry any V1s. Was estatic when they had VC v1.

DX - no it's gross.

by Predator6over 8 years ago

I haven't switched to them. I started with them. I don't vape a lot of cream flavors anyways, so I figured I'd bite the bullet and start with the V2/DX flavors.

They've been steeping about a week or so. It'll be time to text them when I rebuild coils next.

I use mostly diacetyl free flavorings but i still use a few that are not diketone free .

FlavorArt is mostly diacetyl free so i use a lot of FA , i have some V2's from Capella and some TFA DX versions .

Some versions are fantastic and some are not very good at all just like other flavors that contain diketones , some suck some don't.

Imo, it's considerably harder to make great recipes with all diketone free flavors except if you are using mostly FlavorArt .

Aye. I'm one of the weird ones who doesn't get on well with Diacetyl, too.

Check out this from CDC. A little more science based than the popcorn factory narrative that comes out of the court. One takeaway is the likely reduction of harm from acetoin as a diacetyl replacement. https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/2016-111/?s_cid=3ni7d2DiacetylHPbanner102016
