I'm SO EXCITED SO EXCITED. Playing with flavor for the first time.
submitted over 8 years ago by VaperKitten

Hello Everyone, I am just wanting to share my first experience and get other peoples experiences with the first time they messed around with flavor in their ejuice.

I am so picky, I enjoy about 1/10 of the ejuice I buy and that is no exaggeration. So I have wanted to DIY for a long time but lacked the confidence to give it a try. I just made my first order at Bull City and just got it twenty minutes ago. Of course I was ecstatic to try them out. I ordered juice for a Sugar Cookie and Cream Recipe I found on here. DIY or DIE named it one of the best of 2016, maybe you know the recipe. Along with that I ordered some Strawberry flavors and Blueberry Jam, I thought it would give me a range to make a few different flavors of things I might like. I watched videos and read posts to find out what is the best to order. Anyway, I am on my way out of the house but I am so excited to try the flavors I took 10 mls of my current ADV (You Got EJuice's Sugar Cookie) I put a drop of INW Biscuit, FW Bavarian Cream, TFA Butter. Two drops of CAP Sugar Cookie and TFA Sweetner. And let me tell you, it tastes EXCELLENT and that just pumps me up I can't wait to get home and continue to work with these flavors. If all goes well maybe I will order some more flavors. Until I now see the possibilities, vaping was something I loved but there was a dead end to it because Ejuice is expensive and most of it sucks. Now I see I can tailor make it to what I like it opens a whole new world. (the sun comes out, rainbows appear and angels are singing "a whole new world"...lol just a funny visual but sort of true)

I want to say thanks to you all so much for the support I needed to start this and I would love to hear your stories....Love to all...Kim

With that attitude you'll be mixing some great juice in no time. Btw, you got e juice's sugar cookie is probably a pretty simple recipe (most of their stuff is, but that's not saying it's bad) so with cap sugar cookie for a base and a few accenting flavors and you'll be close

Welcome to DIY ! I haven't bought ejuice in ages and there's very few I would pick up these days..

Here's a tip to save you some time/trouble/headaches.. Get a 0.01g accuracy scale and mix by weight instead of drops or mls. Also write everything you do down ;)

Good luck, and have fun !

I just started a couple of weeks ago and i took this advice from the beginning. It's so much less hassle and I'm amazed at how what i think is the right amount in the syringe is totally not the right amount. I'd also suggest getting a few spare droppers together.

LOL it is true, I am a totally "if one tastes good three will taste great" type of person....I am learning my lesson quick...lol but I see what you mean about syringe accuracy.

One thing to remember about this amazing hobby, and dare I say art form, is that less is more! It is a hard concept to wrap your brain around but what can happen when you have too much of one kind of chemical compound is it mutes itself and sometimes other flavors.

Will do, I found a YouTuber named DIY Vapor and got a link to one like his...thanks for the advice

If you like to do research and watch youtube, new amsterdam vapes has a couple really good beginner mixing videos and diyordie is very informative as well.

Love the enthusiasm! Welcome to DIY!

I was buying juice online and came across this place that let you design your own juice. They had a drop-down menu that listed flavors, you could pick a primary flavor, a secondary flavor, and and additive and their "chemist" (hahaha what bullshit) would mix it up for you. The stuff I picked out was terrible, but it was an eye-experience. I did some googling, discovered this place (I was already quite familiar with reddit though I'd given it up for person reasons), made a new account, and spent a month reading every thing I could here before I mixed my first juice using a five-flavor kit from Heartland Vapes. My first mix tasted terrible, but I kept at it and that profile eventually became one of my best creations. In the words of /u/vurve , "keep mixing, don't be afraid to fuck up, and read the damn sidebar."

Best advice I can give you at this point:

  1. Get a scale. Drops are horribly inaccurate and no way to produce replicable results. Mixing with syringes by volume comes naturally (after all, volume is how we've been taught to measure liquids since 1st grade), but a scale is every bit as accurate if not more so, and it's quicker, and there's hardly any cleanup at all.

  2. Single-flavor test all of your flavors. If you really want to dig deep into it, try them at two or three different percentages. Check out the Flavor Reviews by /u/concreteriver for an example of how he does it. Take the best notes you can. This will help get to know your flavors more intimately so you'll be making well-informed decisions when you mix them together.

I see, so you mean to make a small bit of single flavor mix at different percentages? If so, that makes a lot of sense, to learn what each flavor tastes like. Thanks so much.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Once you learn what each flavor tastes like individually, mixing them together is so much easier. Sometimes the flavors seem to tell you which ones they want to be mixed with.

Great idea, a light went off in my head when you said to do that because when I changed my ADV YouGotEJuice's Sugar Cookie, when I added a few drops of flavor it added a note that I love and I am not sure which flavor that comes from, is it Biscuit or Sugar Cookie or Butter, doing this will let me know so that when I make my own recipe I can copy that flavor. Does that make sense?I hope so, anyway I am rambling what I want to say is Thank You I think that will help me so much.

Welcome to the DIY i am a beginner as well here so i won't give you much advice about flavors but what the guys taught me here and from playing around start with 1 or 2 flavors at a low percentage with a testing 10ml bottle and work your way up and add flavors that match what you looking for at low percentages so you can figure out at some point if that specific flavor is not good for the recipe and best of luck :)

Little hint a 0.01 scale will be very handy when you play around 5 - 10ml testing bottles ;)

Don't forget to order a few different flavors so your not stuck vaping one flavor profile. No matter how much you love sugar cookies you will want to switch it up.

Thanks, you are so right, I am going to put another order in tonight for some other fruits and creams.

Good luck with your mixing, careful it's a slippery slope. One day your mixing 60ml bottles, next thing you know you're sitting on a liter lol. The good thing is it's a tasty addiction.

The Recipe I bought my first order of juice for was Sugar Cookies and Cream by Chrisdvr1, so I just tried to mix it and I realized that I didn't order Hazelnut. I figured ok I will sub that for an extra drop of INW Biscuit (like I am experienced enough to make that call....right...yeah right...lol..) then when I put in my Vienna Cream I accidentally squirted instead of dropped. Oh well right, it was only a little....wow it makes a HUGE difference I think. Of course I have never had the recipe but I am guessing one of the best flavors of the year is suppose to taste better than this....oops...going to order Hazelnut and back to the drawing board. My concoction taste bitter..oh yeah and then to try to make it better I put a few drops of sweetener in it. Just because you can cook "ok" doesn't mean you can mix ejuice without learning your way...Thanks for everyone's comments they make me happy and keep me going.

Mix by weight or by volume. Drops are in no way, shape or form accurate to what we are doing here, and is never recommended anywhere in the sub.

Yeah I think I am learning that the hard way...lol great advice.

That recipe needs a 2 week steep. Might want to check out some other recipes that have a shorter steep while you wait for that one to do it's thing. Also, like Edible said, mix by weight.

Oh good point on the steeping....I had some Suicide Bunny Mothers Milk and I actually don't like it...too mild, not enough flavor. Most people love it I know but I don't so I had bought some strawberrys from CAP and FA so I added a few drops of each and one drop of Biscuit INW...changed everything now I love it. I am enjoying playing around with ejuice rejects of mine...I am just loving getting my hands in it and seeing what a drop here or a drop there can do. id-10-t said to try single flavor mixing and taste each flavor profile and I am going to work on that I think that will help a lot to get to know the flavors..thanks so much for the advice it is so appreciated.

Ahh, the wonderful world of flavor. I'm sure you will enjoy your stay =) You can taste anything your heart desires even if it doesn't actually exist. You've landed in what I would say is probably one of the greatest sources of DIY Information here so I think you're going to have a good time!
