Thick & dense cream? Without Vanilla?
submitted over 8 years ago by Silba93Mixologist

Hi guys... Been trying for almost a year (once or so a month so not much really) to get a nice thick creamy base and it wasn't until about 2 months ago i realized what my problem was.

I'm sensitive(?) to something in vanilla flavourings and i get a really metallic almost spicy note which overpowers everything in the mix. It's more of a steel or tin or aluminium flavour, not iron.

"Taste" = Vape, not tongue tasting. They ALL taste 100x worse on my tongue though.

  • TFA DX Bavarian Cream - REALLY thick and dense but the metal just doesn't go away and is unvapable.
  • TFA Vanilla Swirl - Smells like metal with a pure metal flavour.
  • CAP Vanilla Custard v1 - Smells like metal, tastes of metal & egg.
  • CAP VBIC - Smells like melted ice cream, no metal. Tastes of metal ice cream
  • INW Shisha Vanilla - Smells like the best fucking vanilla in the world, no metal. Tastes of pure metal.

I have had a one shot called "Kal's milk" I don't seem to get any of that metal from the recipe despite it containing 2% Bavarian Cream. So i thought i'd go ahed and buy some non DX Bavarian cream to try out, haven't tried it yet but it smells exactly the same of metal so it's put me off a bit.

Ingredient|% :---|---: Bavarian Cream (TPA)|2 Cheesecake (Graham Crust) (TPA)|3.25 Key Lime (TPA)|5.25 Strawberry (TPA)|6 Vanilla Custard (TPA)|3

I've tried

  • FA Fresh Cream - Beautiful, no vanilla notes? so no metal just a really nice light cream.
  • TFA DX/Sweet Cream - Both the dx and non dx have no vanilla notes? I don't get any metal from either but still not quite as rich or dense as i would like.
  • TFA DX/Banana Cream - Very creamy no metal, both dx and non dx.

I just want something comparable to the thickness of Bavarian Cream but without any vanilla notes! Anyone have any recommendations?

Uhm.. just to be clear, i'm not a twat mixing these at 5, 10, 15%. My percentages were fine and even at 0.25% some of the flavours give me metal.

I have two different mixes that I use as a base for adding fruit flavors too. Could try vaping them standalone and see how you like them. I'd offer to mix 15ml bottles of both and mail them to you for free so you can see if you like them before having to buy any flavors you don't have, but I'm a truck driver and likely won't be home until May. If you are OK with possibly waiting until then, just pm me your address and what nic/pg/vg amounts and I'll let you know when I send them.

Cream Base - with fruit added makes a nice fluffy fruity vape like a fluffy mousse. When I made this I also added 2% FA Cherry. Boy did that 240ml bottle empty fast.

  • FA Whipped Cream - 1%

  • FA Vienna Cream - 1%

  • FA Fresh Cream - 0.5%

Taffy Base - something I made when I wanted more of the above, but was out of Fresh Cream. It turned out just as good. When fruit is added it's like a salt water taffy. The vanilla adds body to it, but don't know if you would find it metallic. My favorite fruits with it were 2% FA Banana, 2% FA Lemon Sicily, and 1% FA Raspberry. Only one of those fruits per mix at those percentages, not all 3.

  • FA Whipped Cream - 1%

  • FA Vienna Cream - 1%

  • FA Vanilla Tahiti - 1%

  • FA Marshmallow - 0.5%

The first one looks promising and i only need to buy the whipped cream which is already on my wishlist. Second one due to the vanilla tahiti will most likely just taste of metal. Thanks for the offer mate! and thanks for the recipes, gave me a couple ideas too.

Seconding the FA Whipped Cream, that is thick, delicious non-vanilla cream. It sounds like you enjoyed the taste of FA Cream Fresh but found it lacking in that thick mouthfeel and taste? FA Whipped Cream sounds like what you're looking for. If for some reason you don't like that, TFA Whipped Cream + a long steep might work for you, but it's also rather light and fluffy. A combination of FLV Cream and FA Cream Fresh might also work. FLV Cream will lend some of that thickness to Cream Fresh at 1% to 1.5%. I don't get any vanilla from FLV Cream but it does have kind of an odd spicy note and some throat hit at 2%ish. A mix of 1 to 1.5% FLV Cream and 1 to 2% Cream Fresh should treat you pretty well.

Thanks for the info yeah you're spot on fresh cream just isn't thick enough. Might not be able to get fa whipped cream but I'll try and also play about with your suggestions. Thanks again !

I know I'm late to the party but I'm interested in this taffy base - generally how long did you let this steep? I just whipped together -FA Whipped Cream - 1% -FA Vienna Cream - 1% -FA Marshmallow - 0.5% -INW Strawberry Shisha - 2.5% -INW Vanilla Shisha - 1%

Think this will turn out okay if I let steep for a week or two?

I usually don't steep on purpose.

But I usually will make 2400+ ml at once so it ends up steeping until I use it.

Last time I mixed was Halloween, 4800 ml, have less then half left now.

Try this... Bite into a salted slice of lime before you vape one of your "metallic" creams. One of my ex's did a big time study for U of CO years ago, and it had to do with how estrogen receptors in the tounge effect taste, and sometimes they can be PERMANETLY "reset" in the way they perceive certain flavors.

I remember the long and short of it being salted lime, and Antler Velvet extract. I tried to find the paper but pubmed no worky. I'll email her and see if she'll send me a link. Good luck.

Maybe trying tfa marshmellow? Might not add cream per say, but will Definitly add mouthfeel.

I've got it, it's lovely but i really want that thick dense creamy flavour. Thanks though.

FA Marshmallow I find is a tad thicker than TFA's.

I've got both, find that FA is way too flavoursome to be used without adding actual marshmallow flavour.

Only ones I can recommend for you are Cream (Milky Undertone) from One on One, and Vienna Cream (FA). If you are just looking for heaviness, there are a lot of non-traditional creams that can work: White Chocolate (FW), all kinds of Cheescakes, Cream Cheese Icing (LA). Good luck with your quest.

Tried using CAP and TFA cheesecakes (ny and graham) and although they do quite a good job they just simply don't feel like a proper thick heavy cream like TFA Bavarian. Definitely worth exploring more though. I've got TFA white chocolate, is it comparable in any way to FW? CCI looks like it may end up on my list one day but seems to always be out of stock where i buy from.

Is that OoO Cream a thick, heavy cream? Might have trouble getting it though.

If you like FA's Fresh Cream I would recommend trying Flavorah's Cream, as it is a lot more creamy than FA

I got that a while back due to good reviews but seen a few people mention it has vanilla notes? It put me off from trying it so far.

One person that I can't remember described it a good way, "it's the closest thing to half and half I've tried yet". It doesn't have overbearing vanilla note from what I can remember. I would give it a shot if you already have it.

Will knock up a tester later then, had a few people recommend it now.

Other than the before mentioned I think you'll be pretty hard pressed to find a cream flavouring without vanilla.

2 points

by Silba93over 8 years agoMixologist

yeah... quite annoying. I've spent some time looking up cream flavourings and either theres not enough info on them for me to try it out (would cost way too much to try them all!) or someone goes ahed and mentions vanilla !! Sending me insane.

Maybe try coconut instead? Tends to be creamy without vanilla. I don't have much experience with a range of coconut flavourings; so hopefully someone else may be able to help

I have a bottle of SC condensed milk coming today, Real Flavors also makes an SC milk, whipped cream, and cream I believe. I would keep an eye out for reviews soon as a lot of us got SC flavors on sale last week.

When you say SC, it sounds like you're talking about the SC flavors sold by Bull City and Vaping Zone, but I think you mean you've got Real Flavors Super Concentrate Condensed Milk on the way, which is a completely different thing. Can we all just agree to call those RFSC or RF(SC) to avoid confusion?

Also, I really want to hear about how that Condensed Milk flavor tastes to you. A great Condensed Milk flavor would so good for DIY. FA's version is super nasty.

Oh my bad, to be honest I thought they were the same thing just rebottled. RFSC works fine I guess? Might be worth putting in the sidebar

Edit: did you try rfsc peanut butter yet? That's one of the others I ordered! And mango ;-)

I think it's being made clear in the flavor review wiki. People will pick up eventually and use a uniform abbreviation as we've done with other new things in the past. Just takes some time to catch on.

I received the RFSC Peanut Butter and Mango and the other four flavors I ordered from the the two days ago but haven't gotten around to trying them yet. If you beat me to it, I'd love to know what %s you used and what your impressions were so I have some idea what I'm getting myself into.

RF (SC) sounds good :) Kind of like TFA Peach (Juicy). Let's you know it's the same brand but different flavour.

Have similar issues with creams, would recommend FW Bavarian cream.

by Silba93over 8 years agoMixologist

Bavarian cream is a vanilla cream though so im not sure it matters which brand i use...?

2 points

by templepilotover 8 years ago

I don't know the science behind it but I get a burnt taste from TFA Bavarian Cream and a lot of other creams but FW's has no such burnt taste to me, just a nice full flavoured cream.

I might have to try it out then, thanks mate.

How do you feel about orange? TFA Orange Cream(3-9% depending on taste)+Fresh Cream is a thick orange cream saver. I like to toss in .5% blood orange to round it out.

1 points

by Silba93over 8 years agoMixologist

I love orange, is it similar to TFA Banana Cream? That's really creamy and i get no metal.

Much creamier with less fruit, but the fruit tastes more authentic and not as pudding-like.

CREAMIER?! Excellent. Added to my wishlist, thank you.

Cap butter cream? I don't think it's a vanilla flavor. Although I honestly haven't Vaped it straight. It's definitely a mouth feel, thick kind of flavoring. I only add a couple drops to some of my recipes.

You could try hangsen cream also, I'm a fan of that. I don't get any vanilla from it either. Maybe their Italian cream too.

FA Whipped Cream is pretty much unavailable in the UK. Can't find it anywhere. Any alternatives?

TFA Sweet Cream is dense and thick with no vanilla

1 points

by Silba93over 8 years agoMixologist

I dont find it anywhere near as thick as bavarian. Do you?

1 points

by Fuzzy05over 8 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

Nope not really its dense and thick though. Bavarian is thicker because it has alot of maltol in it imo. Add tfa marshmallow to sweet cream and you got what you are looking for.

How do you know what iron and aluminium taste like?

9 points

by Silba93over 8 years agoMixologist

Everyone knows what iron tastes like, our blood tastes of it for starters ! ;)

Chewed enough aluminium foil by accident in my time...
