Sub-ohming nic salts?
submitted over 8 years ago by 182plus44Mixologist

I have a 60ml of 100mg/ml nic salts coming tomorrow. I can't find anything about this on the internet other than "DO NOT SUB OHM OUR 45mg NIC SALTS"

Can anyone tell me if it's safe to mix nic salts down to a 6 or 12mg and vape them on a subohm setup? (Baby Beast, 0.4 ohm coil) Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'd rather be careful.

I am having our chemist create a Reddit account to weigh in on these questions to answer as many as possible.

Thank you guys!

Thank you so much, I ordered them from you guys so I am glad to see so much interaction

Hiya! Did your chemist ever hop on? I'm currently going through the same thought process of switching over (in my tanks) to nic salts.

6mg, (without any additives,) should do you right proper. You won't get much throat hit from the nic, but you'll feel the effects. It does seem to come on quicker than regular nic IMO. I do 4mg on a .22ohm RTA.

I've got some turning up tomorrow as well and have been looking everywhere for some info. The thread linked in the comments is informative yes, but I'm wondering is there a general consensus to mixing with salts thus far? Is mixing a certain strength generally going to "hit" like half of that? Example, mixing 6mg would 'feel' like 3mg but you're still getting an instant rush of 6mg? If I typically mix my juices with standard freebase nic at 3 or 6mg, what should I be mixing juice at using salts? Do I need to add anything extra to the juice or just mix my batch like I normally would with freebase (I saw benzoic acid mentioned)?

Any info would be great, is anyone here already mixing with salts that could share some info?

Exactly my dilemma. I've read somewhere that a 6mg has the throat hit of a 3mg but is still its normal strength but I read the thread linked here and if anything it confused me more. I really don't want to be a guinea pig so hopefully someone who is currently mixing with them can chime in

The general consensus is to not subohm anything over 6mg using nic salts, but there's not a lot of definitive information out there yet. This post and it's comments will give you a bit of a better understanding.

Now that I've read the thread linked here it says that without the benzoic acid that the salts are absorbed less efficiently than freebase. I'm even more confused now as I was under the impression that they were more efficient. I now have absolutely no idea whether I should be mixing higher nic, the same, lower, buying benzoic acid, what?

They are absorbed more quickly, which gives a more instant nicotine buzz, but fades much faster than a slowly-built freebase nicotine buzz. It is both more efficient and less efficient at the same time. My personal recommendation would be to stick to freebase if you are a lung-hitter, and try out the salts if you're a mouth-to-lunger, but that's really just a (slightly) educated guess. I am not proficient enough in chemical dynamics to offer an opinion on added benzoic acid and the effects it may have on the nic salts (or the flavor of your liquid, since this is r/DIY_eJuice). Just keep benzoic acid away from cats, unless you hate cats. You monster.

So mixing freebase and salts would get a bit of instant nic buzz, with a bit of prolonged buzz?

Do you know what flavorings already contains benzoic acid?

I've been using the NN signature at 3mg for a while now. I've been on 3mg for a long time. I don't notice a difference over regular nic base. The three other people that vape my stuff didn't report any difference.

Accidentally dripped a bottle of 35mg/ml nic salt because it was next to my other one. I got an intense nic rush but didn't get sick and I'm still alive. While I wouldn't do it again at that high of a percentage, I will say it had a throat hit that wasn't as bad as you might think. It was like vaping regular 6mg/ml for me.

Anecdotal evidence here, but I'd say it's safe to subohm the salts, just at relatively normal concentrations.

I only use nic salts now, freebase I used 1.5, nic salt I use 3mg, for the same throat hit(albeit mild), just mix as normal, but you'll increase the percentage slightly. I initially used the x 1.5 rule, so 3mg fb I'd recommend 4.5mg ns. I subohm approximately 40ml a day

I don't have experience with salts but from what I've read I'd drop way down .. it's absorbed more efficiently

This is all very confusing. I've been using salts for some time now (nude nicotine smooth). I vape at 3mg, and I haven't changed anything with my percentages when I switched from regular nicotine concentrates.

Am I ok? Am I going to die now? I didn't know there was that much of a huge difference between salts and freebase.

I have noticed no difference between NN standard nic and their "hit" or "signature" nics. My wife mentioned that the "hit" made her cough less.

I sub-ohm, but at 1.5 - 3 mg/ml.

The blends are different acids/%

I've been using nic salts at 12mg in my subohm setups. Just got myself down to 6 again. Nic salts are nice but I honestly prefer freebase. It hits you faster.

That's incorrect isn't it? The very purpose of salts is that they hit you almost instantly as opposed to freebase which takes time?

No, the purpose of nic salts is to get high levels of nicotine without the throat hit of the freebase. Salts have been clinicly proven to be slower and less efficient at being absorbed than freebases. This is why crystal meth works better than adderall. I don't have links to the study but there is at least one out there so it's not hard to find.

That would be really interesting to read man! Simply because everything I've read about salts is that it's almost an instantaneous absorption, much closer to a cigarette than freebase, whilst being extremely smoother than freebase.

i dont think anyone would sub anything more than 10mg

Sadly I know 3 people that do... One subs 18mg and 2 subs 12mg....I've wanted them lol

well on the plus side for them their batteries possibly last a lot longer than mine

My girlfriend sub ohms 18mg that I make for here. She does mouth to lung hits. I've tried to lower it but she prefers to vape less and get more nicotine than to vape more and get less nicotine.

Her IPV3 lasts all day though so there's that.

> She does mouth to lung hits

How is that even possible with sub ohm? i've tried on multiple different tanks and the vapor gets way too hot

I vape 12 (occasionally 9) in my dripper and 36 in my iCare. I'm trying to cut down so I'm less dependant but I get pretty nangry otherwise.

I know I'm an outlier but we do exist.
