Question about Dairy Milk (TPA)
submitted over 8 years ago by lefty59

Hi Everyone, I am just starting my journey into DIY. I have everything ready to go, and I have prepared my first DIY recipe, which is a clone of rocketman by onehitwonder see link here:

http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/1275232/Rocketman%20Clone%20%28But%20Better%29

I notice that one of the ingredients (Dairy Milk (TPA)) is listed as a warning for "Contains Acetoin and Acetyl Propionyl <0.5% of each"

Now i have tried browsing other recipes for this clone but it would seam the flavor profile of rocketman needs this to taste the same as many other clones list is as an ingredient.

Now my question is how much should i be worried about this? Does anyone have recommendations to replace this flavour if I need to? Is it safe to assume that rocketman essentially contain this anyway, as I've already gone through about 300ml of the authentic stuff.

Thanks.

Those are some rather high percentages there. I don't know about that clone. When looking for recipes, pay attention to the comments and ratings. A lot of ELR is filled with shitty recipes and people that don't know what they are doing. But, as per your question, it's just a warning for those afraid of delicious diketones or diacetyl. You'll find them in many flavors, especially dairy ones.

Agreed... I would probably at least cut that recipe in half... X_X

I do that all the time when I see a good recipe that is over 15% lol. Most of the time it comes out more flavorful.

Thanks for the info, the reviews of the recipe are quite promising but i will definitely keep a lookout.

Delicious diketones, that sounds like a oxymoron if ever there is one. Thanks for the reply appreciate it.

No oxymoron. People are free to mix however they want, but that's what makes some flavors taste good. Word of advice, if you want to copy a recipe for your own mixing reference, that's obviously fine, but making it public is what clogs up the catalogue on ELR. That's one of the reasons why people have to sort by rating and reviews on the site.

The only reason I set it to public is to share it on here for the discussion. I couldn't get it to copy the Reddit markdown for some reason. Will get it set back to private.

Thanks the head up though about the percentages. I plan to make small batches anyway to fine tune the flavour so I will start off by halving the percentages and see what it tastes like.

Thanks again.

I love dairy milk in my creamy recipes. If you used to smoke, the damage you've already done to your lungs is probably way worse than anything diketones will do to you.

Yeah I'm getting that impression from what I was reading online. I just can't seem to settle on anything fruity - but savoury dessert type vapes I could go all day.

Maybe you could recommend a recipe which doesn't use dairy that you've tried? I don't mind if I have to invest in a few more concentrates.

That Rocketman Clone is alright. But the percentages are way to high.

I'm working on a better clone right now. All the Rocketman clones up on elr start to taste like AP and butric acid to me after a few mls..

Would be great to hear how you get on - thanks!

It seems to me that a lot of the folks putting recipes on there are using really high percentages. Most of the time when I find a recipe that I like there I cut the percentages in half.

Thanks - I will try that first.

If you copied yours from the other rocket man clone (but better) recipe I suggest you start with a small batch and see how you like it after a few weeks of steeping. It was actually the first recipe I ever mixed, thought it was pretty good as s&v and mixed a big batch right away. After a few weeks I didn't like it anymore as it lost a lot of flavor and tastes pretty much undefined with a hint of blueberry. As others stated here, maybe the percentages are much too high.

Edit: I just compared the clone to the original. The clone tastes really undefined. The original has a prominent Greek yogurt, has a very dry mouth feel and I taste something refreshing on exhale. Could be something citrussy or maybe a touch koolada? Don't get much blueberry from it. But don't take my word for it, I'm pretty new to this.

Thanks for your input - I am new to this as well, to the point where I haven't made a single batch of any recipe yet. Will definitely take your comments on board - maybe I should try something else for my first batch, this sounds pretty complex as we go deeper down the rabbit hole.

I'd suggest starting with some popular recipes on alltheflavors.com. Pick one or two that you find interesting and start from there. I'm pretty happy with the ones I tried so far.

I don't know how similar they even are, but I always sub out Dairy Milk for Malted Milk. I just never cared to buy it and it's always some low % like 0.5-1% in the recipe.

TPA is pretty straight forward to customers, maybe shoot them an email to see just how much "less than 0.5%" actually is?

My recipe, Mega Man Yogurt is inspired by Rocketman by OHW, some think it's even better, and does not require Dairy Milk. Regardless, I'm sure you can sub Dairy Milk with Cream Fresh (FA), or even DX Sweet Cream (TPA) if you really don't want any diketones. [Mega Man Yogurt by VaporAlchemist] (http://tjek.nu/r/5CaQ)
