From my understanding, there are two types of people--or taste buds, rather. Those who like grapefruit, and those who do not. I am the latter, but I once tasted what I believe was an artificial grapefruit flavor in some sort of candy, and it was glorious. I'm assuming this is because of some molecular difference that I am not qualified to comprehend. So my question is this:
Are there any grapefruit flavor concentrates that use an artificial flavoring that might suit the taste buds of a non grapefruit lover?
Edit: Hey guys, couple things. A) I would like to apologize for posting and ditching you all day. Work was nuts and children were troublesome when I got home so no time for reddit. B) Evidently I should have added more information to the question. I was trying to make it brief, but instead I broke a sidebar rule for a low effort question (didn't catch that in the sidebar, I thought I had read it all). I'm still getting a feel for the community and I appreciate the leniency, but also more importantly, the correction.
So, for the rest of the information I should have put. I just received my first shipment of new flavors. I bought Ruby Red Grapefruit (generic, I think) from the Vape Mall with the above theory in mind. I did a taste test of all the flavors and the grapefruit tasted terrible, like actual grapefruit. I guess the real question I have is whether that is because that particular flavor was a natural version that hit the taste buds the same way, and another brand might be more artificial and tasty, or if I just won't ever get to understand why my wife loves the stuff so much because grapefruit is grapefruit is grapefruit.
Now, does this still break that rule? I feel like it's a pretty good question that really does need a wider range of input. I didn't want to put it in the newbie thread because I could definitely picture a more intermediate mixer asking this. Thank you guys. I'll try to comb through the sidebar again. I'm on mobile so it's just slightly harder to navigate.
I fucking hate grapefruit.
I love Inawera grapefruit though, and have no idea what to mix it with other than coconut and cream.
I enjoy INW Grapefruit very much. I would also like to point out that it goes great with INW Cactus.
Try <or= 0.5% with some stronger berries or stone fruits--INW Raspberry and INW Plum, for example. Putting some mango in that coconut and cream with the grapefruit should work out nicely as well...and now I know what I am working on next. Good talk :)
aaayyyyy no disrpek but....
>you the man! girlfriend.
in your opinion, what mango is better than FA's?
The pineapple candy you had was probably mostly sugar with just a touch of flavoring. Since the typical grapefruit is more bitter and acidic than sweet, I think what you really are seeking is sweetness. Most concentrates do not add any kind of sweetener. A good example is cherry. If you were to put cherries into a juicer and try that juice you would probably find it tasting dry, astringent and not very palatable. Add apple juice or pear juice and bam! Smooth cherry delight. So, try to find sweet counterparts for your pineapple or just add sweetener (if you don't mind the coil gunking properties of it).
Hello, this is a good question. But according to the rules it belongs in the Weekly New Mixers Thread: here
I just realized that the DIY_eJuice Etiqutte do not include the fact that simple questions should be posted in the weekly new mixers questions. Now that's something I feel should be addressed.
It's reasonable to expect a new mixer to read the sidebar rules before posting, but the problem is that posting new questions in the Weekly New Mixers Thread being required is not in there. Paging /u/ID10-T
It's covered under "Posts Which Will be Deleted: Low Effort Help Requests."
I would have liked to see OP give evidence of having done some kind of research into grapefruit flavors - we really like to put the Y in DIY, you know.
I'll delete this post if it gets another report against it and doesn't lead to a great discussion on the topic of grapefruit flavors for grapefruit haters, a discussion that could be worth preserving in the search results for "grapefruit."
Reddit is a total garbage heap and even I have trouble finding answers for what I'm looking for using search. And I'm decently well versed in how DIY_eJuice usually goes around here.
I would rather a new user ask in the wrong place then don't say a word at all, thereby suppressing their own ability to learn out of fear of unnecessary bans or whatever.
Luckily today we lost a more negative user who would regularly attack new users and cause little spats for no reason. Hopefully that helps the community.
I personally hate deleting/removing/censoring any content. Its better to just lock it and redirect them to the correct place. That's my personal feel anyways.
> Reddit is a total garbage heap
Trying to mop up some of that mess is the whole point of removing posts that are just simple questions that don't add value to the library of information. If all you do is lock a post, it's still there being part of the heap.
> I would rather a new user ask in the wrong place then don't say a word at all,

Hell yes, of course. First of all, new mixers come first. I don't want anyone not learning or getting discouraged when they are first starting out.
This is why I don't like people commenting at all on these low effort help requests unless it is to do one thing, which is POLITELY (keyword) redirect them.
> Luckily today we lost a more negative user
Good riddance. Although now we'll probably be playing whack-a-mole with his alts until there's strong enough evidence of ban circumvention to present it to Reddit admin and in the meantime he'll be an even bigger asshat.
Sorry, I did post it in a bit of a haste this morning. I should have mentioned that I just got my first shipment of flavors, and upon taste testing the grapefruit I received it was indeed terrible to my tongue and it just got me thinking about it. I suppose I also should have added the brand of flavor I got. I'll edit the original post to add a little more to it. I appreciate you giving the thread a shot.
I totally read the sidebar! I'm still feeling the sub out, so I may be wrong, but I felt like it was a question that might also be asked of a more intermediate mixer and be a decent topic. And because it was so specific I was worried it wouldn't get good visibility in the newbie thread.
Edit: do me a favor and read the edit of the post and let me know if it's still rule breaking. I tried, super sorry.
So it may well be heresy, but you can mess with your grapefruit flavors to take out of the some of the realistic bite. Ethyl Maltol has a tendency to mute the sharper parts of citruses. If you started with a relatively sweet concentrate like CAP Grapefruit, then added .5% EM you may start to get what you're looking for. I'm not sure if the same trick works with something like the maltol in the TFA Strawberries, but that'd be another avenue to investigate.
Hello suspected new mixer. Please consider deleting this post and refer to the stickied New Mixer's Thread for this week which can be found at the top of the page or in the sidebar.
Please take a moment to read through the sub rules and indulge yourself in the plethora of information over in the sidebar. Failure to do so may result in a ban.
