Thanks to everyone who joined in last week's Flavor of The Week discussion about Peanut Butter, /u/mrburgundy314's fickle bitch.
As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
This week's flavor is: Coffee

Otherwise I'm going have to resort to picking one of these from /u/tranceinate: Pistachio, pandoro, panetonne, pumpkin, pasta, paprika, parfait, pastry, pesto, pickle, potato, praline, pretzel, pulled pork, pizza, pancake, pie, pie crust, pie filling, peppers, plantain. And from /u/Turbonatorcharged: Butter Chicken, French baguette.
Y'all need to get on the INW Mocca hype train. It's creamy with just a light touch of chocolate. Definitely stronger on the coffee side of things. AFAIK it's not a coil gunker too.
Oh and TFA Caramel Cappuccino is love. A drop goes a long way. I typically do two drops per 10ml.
Like others, I have been turned off by coffee vapes for the most part. I had a friend press me into mixing SOMETHING coffee flavored for them. I ended up mixing up a small variation of Smooth Morning Kick by Lars. The only sub I made was that he uses FA Vanilla Tahiti at 0.4%, I swapped in TFA Vanilla Swirl at 0.7%.
Informed my friend that they should let the bottle sit and steep for as long as they could. My first impressions after about a week steep was that it was a good coffee vape, but nothing particularly spectacular. It did not kindle a lustful flame to keep making coffee vapes, and so the bottle sat on the back of my shelf.
Fast forward three months and my friend tells me that they had lost their bottle of it, and was too embarrassed to ask me to mix it again, but that they found their bottle and that it was "amazeballs". This jogged my memory about my bottle sitting on the back of my shelf - and indeed, it has become amazeballs!
Here's my variation on Smooth Morning Kick :
- FA Cream Fresh (1.5%)
- TFA Vanilla Swirl (0.7%)
- FA Vienna Cream (0.5%)
- FA Tiramisu('Booster') (0.4%)
- FA Dark Bean (Espresso) (0.4%)
I just grabbed my bottle off the shelf and I realize it's now five months old. In the bottle I smell mocha-like coffee scent. Vaped, it's a rich/dark mocha coffee that tastes like it needs a smidge more cream for my tastes, and a bit sweeter (I like stevia in my real coffee,) but overall a good coffee vape.
So I'm not exactly sure how long this would need to steep to level out into the juice I'm vaping right now, but I will mix it again and pay closer attention. I'm assuming between 2 weeks and a month steep.
Apparently long-steeping is the key to coffee.
It would seem so. . . While this hasn't sparked a coffee juice lust within me, it does have me vaping it and thinking about what i could change or add to it, like "maybe a little FA almond for an almond milk creamer effect", "i really like those coffee M&Ms... Peanut flavors are finicky, but could something like that be achieved with INW Peanuts?", which is a far lot more thought given to this than i give a juice that i just don't like.
Coffee M&M's are that good, huh? I've been meaning to try them.
"Almond milk creamer effect" makes me wonder what would happen if you just slipped some FA Booster and FA Dark Bean into this Vanilla Almond Milk recipe.
This looks really good. For my first coffee mix I tried 2% FA Dark Bean (Espresso) with 2% Cream Fresh and it's way too strong. Even after steeping for weeks. Still vapeable, lol.
Wow, and Morning Kick is almost edging on "too strong" for me. I can't imagine 2% Espresso! Not sure it would be still vapeable for me, lol. :)
Ah coffee. The flavor that ruins all wicks
Not mine. I have a kind of mild flavor PTSD from trying a couple of commercial "coffee" flavors before I started DIY that keeps me from attempting it. You know what happens when you leave a nearly empty coffee pot on for too long and it burns and creates that black death inside the pot that stinks up your whole office? They tasted the way that smells. Imagine scraping flakes of that out and putting them a bowl, pouring on some creamer and pink packets, and eating that mess like cereal. And paying $20 or more per 30ml for the privilege of that. However, I do have a bottle of Flavorah Coffee flavor here that someone sent me. I'll overcome my fear and try it... someday.
I don't blame you. All coffee liquids I've tried make me gag. I've tried two times to use a couple coffee flavors and nope, never again.
Also, how long does it take you to come up with those ridiculous pun titles?
I start on Tuesday morning right after posting one and work on new ridiculous pun or other joke titles from can see to can't see for 7 days straight.
No, I don't know, a few minutes? The point is to set a tone that these weekly threads are supposed to be fun and I'm not above making a fool out of myself with dumbass jokes and lame-o puns to see that they are. Long time ago, FOTW used to be a competition, with threads in contest mode until the best recipe was unveiled. Even after that, the focus was firmly on recipes with detailed notes that used the FOTW. I think we get enough competition in the monthly recipe thread, enough sharp focus in the single flavor reviews, and enough way-too-seriousness all over the place. Let's just like, relax, chill, and talk about some flavors in a way that hopefully helps someone out with something they're working on or helps them decide what to order or mix someday if they remember to check the Flavor of the Week wiki. Yeah?
Edit: If anyone has any suggestions for bad puns and stupid joke titles for the upcoming FOTW's, please share!
Start at .5% & work up with that FLV coffee. It's srsly strong(but oh so good) Haven't messed with it in more than a year, but last time I did, it ruined several ry4 mixes at .2%. I've been getting into some tobacco mixes lately, so I've been thinking of trying them again with just a drop of coffee or so.
I'm right there with you on the fear. I suggested this FOTW selfishly to force me to overcome it and see what people would say about coffee concentrates.
I've done the prerequisite research on the profile, but some of the information seems old and/or concentrate offerings have changed. That and I don't know if I trust people after sampling so much burnt bean flavored juice.
I'd vape the crap out of a decent coffee juice that doesn't taste all burnt or like an after dinner dessert.
I've only ever had luck with FA Tiramisu, but it needs help to not be funky. It's not a pure coffee flavor, but it's workable and not overly sweet. Pretty potent, you can get a ton of mileage even at very low percentages. Anywhere from .25% as a coffee/chocolate backnote, or 2%on the very high end. On the high end it really needs creams to soften the bitter sharpness, or it gets sort of offensive.
FA tiramisu is my only coffee concentrate currently, so ive been trying to make it work. HICs xtra smooth tiramisu is a good mix, i have that juice in my rotation currently. I also tried a mix with tiramisu, cds and hazelnut (something else i cant recall) and it came out pretty bomb. Like sipping on coffee to wash down a big bite of a svenhard breakfast claw. Ill have to find that mix, but it took a long ass time to steep into something good. FA tiramisu is like vaping on dry coffee grounds for me unless it has a cream with it or has steeped the dryness out... But i like the flavor :s
That's the one that keeps coming up as pretty decent but I'm still scared to try it. We need to get /u/runtdastardly and /u/mlnikon in here to talk about coffees, and I think /u/apexified mentioned working on some kind of starbucked up abomination as well.
Honestly I'd rather just make a good cup of coffee and vape something that complements it. But coffee has almost become a white whale because over the years a lot of people have requested it and I've yet to make something (or find something) that is good and that I don't get burnt out on quickly.
Stixx Mixx Italian Roast is the most promising coffee flavor that I've tried. By the time I was done with my 15ml SFT the wicks weren't destroyed and I didn't feel like giving up on coffee altogether. I used it in place of MF in /u/RuntDastardly's [Marietta] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/14955) @5% and in the third version of my "starbucked up abomination" which, if all goes well, I should be releasing before the end of the week.
YES! I was just about to nag you regarding your thoughts on Stixx Mixx coffees! I've wanted to pick some up, but, I've been uneasy to do so without a little bit of experiential feedback.
This is very good news, and, truly, I'd love nothing more than to find a worthy substitute for MF coffee, and Stixx Mixx seemed like a venerable candidate.
Thanks for this, and I'm really looking forward to that recipe!
I'm far from an expert. I only made thr attempt to appease the lady of the house, else I'd be unlikely to have ever tried. I haven't had much love for coffee the last few years.
I don't have much experience with coffees. I have had the most luck though using fa up at like .05 - .1% it is super strong and takes over a mix real fast.
I'm a bit late to the party, but if you haven't tried Medecine Flower's Coffee flavor or Stixx Mixx's coffee line.. Give them a try. MF is expensive af, but you don't need much at all to get a strong coffee out of it. I'm talking start with 1.5-2% for the 10% diluted version. Stixx Mixx Coffee flavors are recommended for 4-7% in the forefront.
Thanks for the tip. I just ordered some stixx mixx today and it shipped out already. I'm excited and I have high expectations! Hope it's good stuff.
Where do you get your medicine flower coffee from? Could you post a link?
The only place that I know of that sells it is the MF website. Link
Edit: Small amounts at a time. It'll easily get too strong quick af. Start low as hell regardless of which you do. MF and SM are both pretty damn strong. Also, let them steep for a good long time. MF needs longer, but don't rush either of them.
You're not late for anything - this party goes on all week!
what a good coffee flavor to get? im looking to make a Vietnamese ice coffee recipe. its grounded coffee beans in a container than drip down into a glass of condensed milk, add ice after. pic
I'm enjoying a cup of strong black Yuban coffee as I type this. Does anyone know of a good black coffee flavor? I've tried FA dark bean with no luck so far (I have been told to dilute it but haven't attempted yet)
[This] (https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/5tpi4b/i_just_want_a_real_nondessert_coffee_vape_say_no/) was posted a couple weeks ago and I wanted to try it.
Does anybody else have experience with MF Coffee? I have a few of their concentrates steeping right now for single flavor testing but couldn't find coffee. Thats another issue. I don't want to pay $22 for a flavor I'm not sure about.
Here is someone who thinks it is the best: https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/5tpi4b/i_just_want_a_real_nondessert_coffee_vape_say_no/
I have a 60ml bottle of this mix sitting on my shelf right now. Almost to the month mark steep. Gave it a little test fresh to try and get an idea, holy balls MF coffee is so strong..... I'm intrigued to give it a go in about a week once I've hit a month steep
So i bought a bunch of coffee flavors from BCF a while back, trying to find one that tastes decent, I haven't really retasted anything other than dripping it on my finger to taste, but I feel like they're pretty much all the same besides INW Coffee, it smells a bit more like coffee but still tastes burnt, and at the end it tastes like coffee a bit. Here's the notes I wrote. These were all shake and vaped as well, so take these with a grain of salt.
TFA Caramel Capp - 1 drop per 10mL INW Coffee WG - 1% FA Tiramisu - 2% FLV Coffee - 1% INW Mocca - 2% FLV Mocha - 2% FA Up - 2% FW Cafe Coffee - 2%
TFA Caramel cappuccino - similar to FA Cap and FA Dark bean, not bad but has a bit offness to it.
Flv Coffee - Has some black floaters, maybe didn't shake it enough but I see them in the concentrate bottle after shaking, tastes like it has some lemon in it, similar to FA offerings, weird offness not much actual coffee
Flv mocha tastes like burnt cotton, not getting much of the flavor, maybe didn't use enough at 2% but I'm not a fan at all.
FA UP - pretty good, kind of got that skunk of FA Dark bean and FA Cap, but I could see myself using this.
FA Tiramisu - Tastes similar to a cappuccino, like a mix of a coffee cake and capp. Definitely might be using this for a coffee cake, it's pretty tasty.
FW Cafe coffee - maybe my cotton is burnt, but this flavor tastes dark, not too much coffee but it is interesting, I can't quite pinpoint what I'm tasting. It's not too good though.
INW Mocca- Not too much coffee, more like dirt mixed with some chocolate. It's not that bad, maybe a steep would help the coffee stop tasting dirty, it's definitely not bad, pretty tasty but not too good either.
INW Coffee WG - Straight dirt. No coffee that I'm tasting. Not much else I can say, not good at all. Like vaping burnt wood chips or something.
FW Cafe Coffee seems to pair well with others, all but INW Coffee, creates more realistic, definitely going to use it to layer. Flv coffee doesn't work well too many weird off flavors, but so far pretty much all combos work well.
I've played around with a few of them, but I've been pretty lazy so I'm not really sure how to use them yet, or if half of them just suck.
None of this sounds very promising - but from what I gather, you gotta steep these.
Yeah definitely. I made them without nic, so I'm not sure how they would be different with it, but Cafe Coffee on a finger test is pretty good, not sure how actual coffee like it is, but I'm gonna let it steep for another week or so and retest them all. The coils get wrecked from the combination of all of them though lol.
> INW Mocca- Not too much coffee, more like dirt mixed with some chocolate
So true!
It's definitely better as it steeps, I can see myself actually using this, it's just the first impressions I got shake and vaped. I feel like it needs some support, but It's not bad. I haven't touched my Mocha Shake tester I made up, I may vape on that today to try it out, it's been around 2 or so weeks, maybe longer.
Hi guys, my 5 cents about FA Espresso (Dark Bean). It's a great flavour. Amazing. Stunningly good. Just wonderful. But it is also misleadingly potent. If you've tried it already, you should try it again in a lower concentration. Start at 0.05-0.08% (no kidding) and work your way up to 0.2%. That's the range.
I personally dilute it ten times, because I don't like to work with 0.05% concentrations. Try 1% of FA Espresso (Dark Bean) (10% diluted) - it equals to 0.1% of actual concentrate. You may want to compliment it a bit with creams or custard (I'm actually going to post my coffee custard recipe in a march recipes thread, so you will stumble across it eventually, it is simple yet delightful).
Ugh I hate to even say it after he took money from people. But 63maui had the only black coffee flavor, out of about 6, that I truly enjoyed. I still have 80mls if someone wants to analyze it for future generations! Ruins coils, tastes delicious. Like a nice strong cup.
sorry I eyeballed this so I cant give percentage or weight
I only just started diy, so I only have 5 flavors, but I mixed up(in order from greatest to least)
TFA Blueberry Wild
TFA Cappuccino
CAP Cool Mint
Im not really sure how to explain it, but I liked it
I don't want to come off sounding like an expert because I'm not. But from experience, let me tell you to document every mix. In my early stages I mixed up one test batch that I loved after a steep, only to realize I didn't know what the hell I did to get there.
I did that with my first recipe. Made a perfect strawberry cheesecake, it was delicious but I decided to tweak it a little and completely ruined it. I saved over my old recipe with the new one and couldn't recreate it. After that I started writing my recipes down in a notepad.
Coffee, never met one I enjoyed vaping. Super excited for next weeks donut. That's one I've yet to crack (and anyone that posts a mix saying "this doesn't taste like play-doh", always ends tasting like play-doh.
But back to the this week, I'll be watching for sure to see how a decent coffee vape can be made. I'm assuming it's gonna be caramel and vanilla infused.... doubt any of us are looking to vape espresso.
I can absolutely guarantee you that whatever else you might find wrong with it, this donut does not taste like play-doh. However, it was created before FA Zeppola, and better donuts can probably be made using that flavor, based on the dozens of donut recipes suddenly popping up all over the place.
Also, if you're not attached to having an American-style donut, you can mix up a non-Play-Doh French beignet just in time for Mardi Gras!
ElliesAromen - Latte Macchiatto with their Sweetener (25 drops per 50ml) is ridiculously yummy.
They include spec sheets in product descriptions. The Latte Macchiato spec sheet says this one contains lactic acid. I wonder if this is a problematic compound. u/abdada
P.S. Please try their "Döner Kebab" and report back.
These are some 0f my girlfriend's favorites
Re: The Nightman, FA Cream Whipped has not been discontinued you can get it at ECX.
Closest I've came to coffee is using OSDIY mocha latte combined with OSDIY lucky shot. By far the closest I've came to a good coffee vape, my white whale
Been mixing this up for a few ppl recently, based around tiramisu was ment to be a caramel vanilla cappuccino but tastes more like those coffee chocolates that usually get left till last in the box!! The caramel hides any skunkiness from the coffee in the tiramisu and this is about the only coffee vape I've enjoyed since wake n vape.
• tiramisu (fa) 1.5%
• brown sugar (tpa) 0.5%
• caramel (fa) 2%
• cream fresh (fa) 1.5%
• up (fa) 0.3%
• holy vanilla (DIYFS) 1%
• meringue (fa) 1%
• Vienna cream (fa) 1%
