Is your juice good yet?
mine is. I've been mixing almost two months now and I must say DIY has surpassed my expectations. But that is no thanks to me. For you new mixers do check out ELR, ATF and the recipe threads here on the sub. I'd really like to send a thank you out to ID10-T, Fizzmustard, NotCharlesManson, Tranceinate and a bunch of other mixers whose names don't come to mind but post on this sub. My goal when I started DIY was to not get caught flatfooted when the FDA rules do (or don't) limit commercial juice and have a few "vapeable" juices and perhaps save a few bucks. Those goals have been met and then some. So far I've just been copying recipes with an occasional sub/adjustment here or there to suit my tastes, but I can see trying my hand at my own creations down the line (still learning how flavors mix and come together). It would not surprise me one bit if some of some commercial companies come to this reddit, copy recipes, change the names and sell them for tons of cash.
When I get those seemingly daily emails for a "juice sale" all I can think now is that even $20 for a 120ml bottle is too much. Plus many of the recipes I've tried are so much better than commercial. All that plus I'm trying mixes for juices outside my usual profile (and loving some of them). The icing on this cake is all the help the moderators and others on this sub give when answering questions. You guys could not have made it any easier for people to switch over to DIY. My tastebuds and wallet thanks you all.
Soooo... I need PG, VG, nic, and flavors. Suggestions on where to buy them? I'd rather get the best quality stuff at a fairly reasonable price.
Aside from bottles, what do I need to use for measurements?
Edit: I just joined this thread, so I've been scrolling. Found a few recommendations for where to buy supplies, but I would still appreciate any suggestions if anyone has new suppliers. Also, I haven't found anything on measuring, except 1% this 0.5% that... a brief ELI5 would be awesome.
Im a new mixer and I got 95% of my supplies from Nicotine River. I got a scale and bottles off amazon. Pg, vg, nic and flavorings I got from NR. I'm very pleased with them. Everything was packaged nicely, nothing leaked and the quality of everything I received was great.
Wow, they have some great prices. What'd you think about the flavors they have? I think I'll make an order today. I have a few recipes I've found on here that I'd like to try.
If you haven't already please read the sidebar! Every question you asked has at least one great answer there. Use a scale that measures to .01 grams for your recipes. The percentages translate into weight or volume. It is the percentage of your mix that is that flavor.
ECX is a pretty good one stop shop. There is also a great thread from a while back about starting out, I'll edit in a link.

I know some custards, creams, bakeries take some time to steep. Do any seem to reach their peak a little faster than others?
It always varies from one flavor to the next, the percentages, the PG/VG-ratio, temperature, etc all have an influence. If you want to know specifically for a certain mix, you'll have to test it at various times of the steep to know when it's ready, with the added benefit of learning how the flavor is shaped over time. It's not that useful to know the steep time for a single ingredient unless it's exceptional or you'll be mixing it solo. I've never kept notes on that.
Im mainly askng for s&v reasons. Im not a big fruit guy, except for maybe strawberries and cream mixes. Been trying to do a bakeryish s&v or a ry4 cream. Got a nice apple cinnamon danish that came out okay, but wondering what else i could try...
Most mixes are vapable right off the bat, don't be afraid to try them just because it says they need to steep. Some really do, and during this process you'll learn why. It's hard to be more specific than that as it's very situational. Think of it as cookie dough, it can taste awesome, but in some cases you really need to bake it before it's palatable, and that's not necessarily due to the individual components but rather the combinations thereof.
How do you guys tackle switching flavors? Do you use a new tank/coil each time?
Disclaimer: I know what a mod, tank, and coil are but don't know shit about the details lol
depends. if it's something new that i haven't tried before or if i'm switching between wildly different profiles, i rewick. if i'm going fruit to fruit or bakery/dessert to bakery/dessert i just vape through it.
but i only use rebuildables and i'm not that big on bakery and desserts. if i was using a tank with prebuilt coils i'd probably use more than one and have one for fruits and one for other profiles.

I'm sure all DIYers mostly use RDAs.
Google says "Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer" baha. Is it bad that I just use the tank I got with my mod? I drive a van for 8 hours a day at work so an RDA doesn't seem like it'd suit me.
It may be more convenient to you for daily use but it certainly is a hassle when it comes to testing flavors.
Some flavor compounds have a very high [residence time](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residence_time_(fluid_dynamics)) and may take forever to flush out without a thorough cleaning.
Usually I just push through the transition of flavour for like half a tank, doesn't last long. If I'm testing 3-4 different flavours on an RDA, I may rework once. And I definitely know the 2nd or 3rd juice through is not going to taste exactly like it should due to previous juices

It suggests adding 0.3% koolada for a cool milk so I did add one drop to ~12ml but then I also added 2 drops of pure water (<20PPM) because I usually like that.
Now crystals started to form immediately, it's like the koolada made snow flakes in contact with the water, I did remix without water and there is no crystals. I tried heating up the mix but the flakes are not dissolving.
I searched the sub but couldn't find anything about this, is that a known thing that we shouldn't mix water and koolada ? Anything I can do to salvage those mix ?

The crystals are floating so I stored the bottles upside down and emptied most of it in another container, can't taste the koolada at all from the resulting juice so I guess that's what it was.
Nicotine salts, what's the difference? Is it better? Does it mix the same at the same percentages, so can i subsitute free base for nicotine salt in a recipe and get the same result?My mom just got a juul to stop smoking and I'm trying to make it as cheap as possible for her to keep her motivated. Also can it be used in normal open system, box mod, setups? I haven't read anything about it other than some people using it for refill pods.
For a Placid-ish mix, can strawberry ripe work reasonably well instead of TPA strawberry? I like the basic flavor profile and don't care if it it close to the original. I'm placing a concentrates order on a budget. edit: screw it, ordered both
They are very different as you'll find out for yourself :) Personally I dislike TFA Strawberry but TFA Strawberry Ripe is one of my most used ingredients.
opposite for me. ripe has this weird... overly green taste to it whenever i've used it. like eating a strawberry that's still slightly white at the tip or getting some of the leaves in a bite.

10 ml bottles on a makeup display rack in a room that doesn't get direct sunlight (blinds, curtains, and a window that doesn't face east or west). A spice rack would work too. Larger bottles in a desk drawer, I should really build or buy a shelf. paging /u/Apexified to give him a chance to show off.
Hey guys, I just received about 500ml of juice and it's 0mg instead of 1.5. I know there's not much of a difference but i'm not ready to drop to 0mg. How should I go about fixing this? I've not opened any of it, and I don't have a clue about mixing nicotine or anything.

If you only want a little bit of nicotine for your 500mL of juice and don't want any leftover, you can purchase a 15mL sample of nicotine here. If you want to use all of the sample in one go, get it in 50mg/mL strength so all you'd have to do is dump the sample into the 500mL of juice to put you at 1.5mg/mL total. I usually get my nic in 50vg/50pg, so you can either do that or get 100vg or 100pg depending on how viscous you want your liquid.
The issue is that it's in different sized bottles. I probably should have been more exact with what I got. I have (3) 120mls and (3) 30mls.
You can still order the sample I linked along with a syringe (1 to 3mL size should be good). Add 3.6mL to the 120's then 0.9mL to the 30's. This is if you get the 50mg/mL strength.
Edit: If you do order this sample nic, go out and buy a couple bottles of juice to hold you over until the nic arrives.
You could order 48mg/ml (relatively safe compared to 100mg/ml) in a small bottle, like 30 ml (since I am assuming you usually just want to buy it at 1.5) and mix into 30 ml bottles. You want 1.5mg/ml so 30 ml bottle would be 45 mg of nicotine so taking your concentrate (45/48=0.94ml) add it to your 30ml then fill the rest with your 0mg juice. You would need an empty 30ml bottle to do this and a syringe. IMO
Have a Mustard Milk recipe with 5% strawberry ripe and 2% vanilla bean ice cream. Thinking of ordering FA Meringue in my next order. Would .5-1% of this be a good addition to my creamy fruit juices? Could I use it a little higher at like 2-3% to replace VBIC for a different, yet still creamy flavor?
FA Meringue is very sweet and very eggy. I use it primarily as a sweetener in bakery style recipes or as a sweetener with a bit of mouthfeel, around 1%. You can pair it with fruit, but the eggyness will make itself known. It has almost nothing in common with VBIC.
Mmm excellent response. No room for egginess in my cream/fruit vapes. Word on FA Custard? Only other cream I've tried is CAP sweet cream and I hated it. VBIC is so good. Adds the right amount to any fruit at 2%.
FA Custard goes well with strawberry, I'm not sure I'd be a fan of other combos. CAP Vanilla Custard is much more versatile, you could try your hands at TFA Bavarian Cream or TFA French Vanilla too. Or just other brands of VBIC, such as FW or CAP, they are similar but different.
Hi DIY. So I recently got into DIY, and I have to say so far I find myself dissapointed with how my liquids are turning out. While I was not expecting my own recipes to be very good, I made a few highly rated recipes such as Mustard Milk, Suckerpunch and God's Milk but I find that the flavor is not nearly what I'm expecting and usually tastes quite bland in comparison to things I might find in my local shops, even after a long steep (not to discredit the creators, I guess it's just personal taste or maybe I'm mixing them incorrectly).
I suppose my question then is, does anyone know of any recipes that seem to really stand out tasting like 'premium' juices?
I usually prefer fruity flavors, but I'm not opposed to creamy recipes or cereals. Would anyone have some suggestions for some recipes to try? Thanks!
What you are probably missing is sweetener. It's generally recommended to avoid sweetener when you are starting out because you will be a better mixer when it's all said and done. But if you must, you can do a quick search for recipes using sweetener and notes about using it to get that "premium" experience
Have any of the recipes you've tried had sweetener in them?
I do have Super Sweet (Cap) that I have been trying out in different juices, it helps with some flavors but in some I find it overpowering even in small amounts. In others its still not giving me quite what I am looking for. As for a recipe that calls for sweetener specifically, not yet :P
Usually when people have problems with their juices not having a "premium" taste, the culprit is their palate not yet adjusting to juices laden with sweetener. How much is a "small amount?"
Of course it could be other things. What is your steeping method like?
Hi DIY. I'm not a new mixer, I've been at this for almost a year now and a friend told me to check out this sub. So looking through the recipes I found quite a few to try but when I mix I go based on ml's of concentrate rather than percentages. So for most of my juices I do no more than 6ml of concentrate for a 30ml bottle. My question is how do I base the percentages? Is it based off the total ml count of the bottle size I'm making? I know it might be on the sidebar but I can't seem to find the sidebar on the mobile site.
Alrighty, I've put together my order and I'm ready to pull the trigger but I want to make sure I have everything I need. I already have the safety equipment so I'm leaving that out.

A scale to measure by weight - so much quicker and easier, disposeable pipettes if your flavors don't come with dropper bottles, disposable plastic bottles maybe, smaller bottles for single-flavor tests and so you're not committing to making 60ml bottles of things you might not like, recipes that you plan to use for those flavors if you don't have them already lined up, and
Jesus H. on a motorcycle smaller bottles of flavors than 4 to 8 oz of flavors you haven't tried yet and might detest! 4oz of TFA Sweet Cream and TFA Crunchy Cereal? IDK about the Crunchy Cereal but other TFA cereals are notoriously bad. Sweet Cream can be useful in small amounts but over 2% tastes like toe cheese to me and maybe to you too... 4oz would be more than a lifetime supply. Seriously recommend getting some 10ml flavors and making sure you like them first. Seems like about 75% of people love TFA VBIC, but the other 25% have like some kind of genetic defect that causes them to perceive it as tasting like straight up black pepper. What if you buy 8 oz of that only to discover you're one of those pepper people?

Yeah, CAP Sugar Cookie I have actually used 4 oz of already and ordered a 4 oz replacement, and my 4 oz CAP VC is getting low. But what if he or she is one of those weirdoes who doesn't like those? I'm not going to advise someone buy 4 to freakin 8 ounces of a flavor they haven't tried yet. Not even Sugar Cookie.
Might I suggest getting smaller bottles of flavoring? 4oz is a lot to be stuck with iffen you don't like them. Like, a whole lot. 30 or even 10ml is the size I get for new to me flavors.
The 60ml glass bottles, I assume is to break down the nic for storage? And don't forget a titration kit! I like to be assured of my nic being correct.
4 and 8 ounce is a LOT of flavoring to be stuck with if you don't like one of them. You might want to stick to 1 oz starting out to make sure you'll enjoy and actually use the flavor before committing to larger bottles.
Also skip the syringes and pick up the LB-501 scale from Amazon. Way easier to mix with, and way less clean up when you're done.
Also consider getting some smaller plastic bottles in 15 or 30ml for testing new mixes. Pick up a couple 120ml or 250ml squeeze bottles for your pg and vg as well to use while mixing.
Just my opinions of course!
Your base supply list looks good, but you will probably end up using more VG than PG. I would suggest that you find recipes that sound good first before building your flavoring list. Then only buy the flavorings for those recipes. You may want to consider smaller amounts of flavoring at first so that you do not get stuck with large amounts of flavoring that you may not like. You can always reorder more of what you do like in larger quantities later. As far as recipes go, search the monthly recipe archives listed in the sidebar, or try https://alltheflavors.com/ and http://e-liquid-recipes.com . Be careful with ELR though, try to stay with highly rated recipes because it tends to be filled with marginal recipes.
noticed in the flavour of the week thread, one of the upcoming features will be oddball berries. one of the berries mentioned was lingonberry. they're very popular here in Newfoundland and Labrador, we call them partridgeberries. i'm wondering if anyone has any experience using lingonberry flavourings. i've been dying to mix up a partridgeberry bread pudding flavour.
u/ID10-T and I were discussing this. We have not come across an actual Lingonberry flavoring, but u/Apexified has come up with a recipe that I've been meaning to try out. Lingonberry
i found this in my searches. haven't come across anyone that's used it though. it's PG based. i wonder if it's specifically made as a lingonberry flavouring or a combination of other flavours like you linked.

Hi! No matter what I mix, I'm getting dry hits. I ordered all supplies from wizard labs, and all of my flavorings are TFA, TPA, or FA. I vape a 3% nic at under 30 watts with a 70/30 vg to pg. I add 1% marshmallow to all my mixes and allow for a 1-2 week steep in a drawer. My nicotine is kept in the refrigerator. I've tried changing coils.
Flavors I've mixed up are amaretto, bourbon vanilla : dragonfruit : strawberry ripe : juicy peach : pear, vienna cream : combos of the fruits mentioned. I follow recipes and use 7%-15% flavor depending.
Edit: I have a cuboid mini with a notch coil.
Nothing really stands out. How would you describe the dry hit, does it just taste bad and burnt (coil gunk) or is it hard to inhale to the point of choking (burnt cotton)? If I had to guess, it's either your setup (coil, wattage), or the marshmallow combined with certain flavors.
Edit: Also is it good for a bit, then goes bad, or bad from the start?
Which creams from the suggested first order list have dairy? I used to love this premium juice and it was strawberry horchata ice cream. I was thinking of doing some mustard milk with cinnamon danish swirl and another milky flavor. Any suggestions?
FA Cream Fresh or Fresh Cream (same thing, you'll find it called different things on different sites).
What would you suggest for percentage to add some milkiness?

So I mixed up this recipe in attempt to clone it and its really close. I am going to let it steep for a little but I am amazed that this is so close on my first try. VW strawberry is TFA strawberry im pretty sure so i subbed in 1 for 1. I think the cinnamon danish swirl either needs to be lowered, steeped or just use a different cinnamon but its all i have at the moment and its working really well.
I'm considering heating VG to encourage bonding during the cooldown period. No heat-steeping with other flavors involved. Simply heating the VG and then adding flavors and nic to it. I'm a bakery vaper and most of my mixes are 80-85 VG. Two weeks of steeping is a bit...long.
Speaking of steep time, I need some good SNV recipes. I'm getting burnt out on grack juice and shurb. I have about 40-50 popular flavors and a few niche flavors. So, fire away.

Have you looked at the recipes at alltheflavors.com? Sort by rating and read the reviews. Lots of good stuff there. God Milk flavors are all must haves, meaning they are used in a lot of different recipes.
ELR also has some good recipes. But again, look for those with positive feedback.
So I just started to mix my own ejuice I made up 2 bottles of the same recipe after steeping for 2 days so far one of the bottle has a layer of clear liquid sitting on the top of it the exact same pg/vg and % of flavours went into both bottles. An reason as to why would be greatly appreciated thanks. Both bottles have no nic the flavours I used were

How vital is the small percentage of water in VG to the overall process? I'm planning on doing an extraction process that would evaporate the water from the VG so I'm wondering if I should be concerned / add it back after the extraction is complete / or not worry about it. Thanks!
Okay. So my one love in life right now is the flavour mtbakervapor Honey berries. I've done abit of DIY, and recently a purchased a few mtbaker concentrates. I didn't buy the Honeyberry one because i coulnd't find it. The concentrates barely gave any flavor, i dont know if its was bad, or it was I who was bad. Any way, im a bit on the fence of ordering more of their consentrates i would really appreciate a clone of this delicous eJuice! To be quite honest, nearly every fruit flavor will work well with menthol. The most popular are probably grape, strawberry, or watermelon. I've done menthol with pineapple, orange, pomegranate, kiwi, blackberry, lime, mango, etc. The list goes on. My advice would be to mix up a few different ones, just to change it up every so often.
I've just got a few questions about sweeteners and I've looked into this pretty extensively, but still had a few questions.

Are TFA EM and TFA Cotton Candy the same exact thing? I've seen it said that Cotton Candy is simply EM, but is it the same concentration as TFA EM?

Is the proper substitution for TFA Sweetener to Cap Super Sweet a 2:1 ratio? I've seen it said that Sweetner is a 5% dilution of Sucralose, while Super Sweet is a 10% dilution, so this seemed appropriate.

Yes, I think they're both just 10% EM and completely interchangeable.

Someone will please correct me if I'm wrong but there isn't a substitution for TFA Sweetener to CAP Super Sweet because TFA Sweetener contains both 5% Sucralose and 5% Maltol. CAP Super Sweet has no maltol and I think it's 20% sucralose rather than 10.

CAP Super Sweet at 0.25% and TFA Sweetener at 1% will gunk pretty good, if gunk is what you're after.

Thank you! If you like coconut rum you should enjoy that one. It's got a very Parrot Bay/Malibu thing going on, which by the way makes a great actual milk shake. Couple scoops vanilla ice cream, some coconut milk, coconut rum, blend it up. Milkshake, pirate style. Arrrrgh!

Substitute based on how sweet you want your juice. TFA sweetener is ~5% sucralose, ~5% maltol, something like 40% water and then PG. There are other sweeteners available that are 10% sucralose. CAP super sweet is ~20% sucralose.

Any sweetener added to your recipes will cause more gunking on coils than if you were to not use sweetener.

Marshmallows can add sweetness yes, but nothing compares to the sweetness added with sweeteners.

So I have my concentrates (for about 3 recipes) just got my pre mixed base in from LiquidBarn, and with the next paycheck I plan on buying a scale because mixing by weight vs volume seems a bit easier.
However I don't get paid again until next Thursday, scale could arrive by next Saturday (Monday at the latest with Amazon prime).
Problem is I'm running low on juice currently and don't know if I'll be able to last that long. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as mixing goes without the tools to measure by weight volume? Perhaps a drop count converter or something?

If you have kids, you will most likely have something like that around the house. If not go to a pharmacy. You could probably even get a syringe for free if you say you have diabetes or something. Just tell them you don't need the needle.
Got a quick question that doesn't deserve it's own thread. When making up the acclaimed grack juice recipe, can I sub the INW raspberry with TFA raspberry sweet or FLV raspberry? Cheers :)
You can substitute anything you wish, that's the joy of this hobby. If you substitute anything, it won't be the same recipe, though. That's the horror of this hobby.

You're probably better off omitting it. I've been going through 200ml of grack lately and raspberry doesn't really come out for me, I don't know what it is without it but I doubt I'd miss it.
Thinking 3% FA Rasp, 5% TFA Dragonfruit & 4% strawberry ripe. Anyone ever try that mix? Kind of want to know before I order the flavors. Percentages are just a first estimate.
TFA Dragonfruit at 5% is on the high side. If you were to try this mix, I would take TFA Strawberry Ripe to 6-7% and TFA Dragonfruit down to 1-2%. FA Raspberry will likely drown out the strawberry if you keep it that low.
However, even if this mix doesn't work right away, these flavorings are extremely versatile. You can use these flavors in hundreds of other recipes. I would get them anyways and play around with them.

The archived recipes from the sidebar, alltheflavors.com and ELR are all good places to find some things you want to mix. Just be sure to sort by rating, and read feedback other mixers have posted.
i like to use either gremlinDIY or Ecig express has a larger selection too. there are recipes all over gotta find whats right for you and fits your tastes because there is a TON of variance in the ejuice field. lot of people perceive tastes in their own way or enjoy different types like fruits/bakery/tobaccos/creams/custards. if your concentrate has acetone yes id be very worried but if you mean acetoin which im positive you do ;) then it is not as bad, you will have to do research and decide for yourself cause there is a lot of conflicting information

Ive gone for a bunch of CAP flavours and swapped one for a TPA due to the v2 getting poor reviews - to try a popular Unicorn Milk clone from http://e-liquid-recipes.com/ I think ill also try a much simpler recipe, perhaps 2 or 3 flavours.
Things I still need to source: Scales, Glass Bottles, Gloves
My questions: How does my wish list look? Got the right things? Will plastic bottles suffice for the time being or is glass a prerequisite? Having trouble finding good bottles with cheap delivery for a good price.

I would skip the buttercream and maybe even the sweet cream and pop in another fruit or berry.
Unless you want to go PG heavy, you'll need more VG base than PG, since the nic and flavorings are PG based.
Never heard of Insane Tim, but the PG and VG shouldn't be a problem. With nicotine however, you get what you pay for. Cheap brands can be okay, especially starting out, but if you find that your mixes are too harsh, the nic is the first thing to check.
Plastic bottles are fine, get mostly 10 ml for now. You don't want to make larger batches of something you've never tried before.
Gloves aren't necessary, if you get nic on your skin just wash it off.
You will need that scale though. A cheap syringe may suffice temporarily, but that depends on what kind of bottles the flavorings arrive in. If you go for a syringe or use the pipette for any of the concentrates, be sure to wash it between every use so you don't cross contaminate the liquids.
Looks good though, you have the right idea, you've done the research, time to get your feet wet. You'll have a much better idea of what to order next, once you've made a few mixes.
Unfortunately savevape.nl doesn't have 100% pg in less than 1L bottle, but its not a huge problem. And ill do more research on the nic brand [edit] Oops, it's actually just called Insane (tm), might be easier to research now.

Just want to clarify the VG. If you get twice as much VG as PG and mix just that, you'll get a 66/33 VG/PG ratio. Add in nic and flavorings and you'll end up between 60/40 and 50/50. If you order equal amounts and want something like 70/30, you'll have used up maybe a quarter of the PG when you run out of VG. If that makes more sense.
Quick steeping question; If I shake two different bottles at say an 80/20 ratio, is the one with the least amount of bubbles the one that has bonded better?
No. It's just been sitting longer or you didn't shake it as much
Made the same day within minutes of each other. Both were the put into an ultrasonic cleaner for a 25min heated cycle before being stored with the cap off. The one that didn't have many bubbles was shook first so I doubt there was much variance in the strength of my shakes. Both were shaken for 10s
Canadian here. Tired of clogged coils, I'd like to go unflavoured nothing but vg (maybe watered down for viscosity), at 1.5mg nicotine. I see a liter of vg is about 30$, so I contacted my favourite store to ask how much for a liter of 1.5mg nicotine vg. They said 150$, that seems pretty high considering. Am I missing something?

Can get a gallon off Amazon less than that. I get essential depot vg/pg from there. Idk what shipping would run though. Check your local heath food store or co-op they sometimes sell it in bulk
Brokevaper is great. I can't remember exactly how much I paid for 500 ml nicotine and 2 L of VG but it was pretty reasonable, I bought a bunch of flavours at the same time. A little pricier for shipping than I'm used to paying but the box was fairly heavy and it did get here quickly.

I'm planning to get some 2oz cobalt glass dropper bottles. My goal is to mix 2oz bottles at 3mg at 80-85% VG, 15-20% PG. I'm mainly planning to use 1 flavor per eJuice, although I'm hoping the Condensed Milk and Honeydew produce something similar to Vaping Birdy - Emperor Penguin. I am also planning to get an AWS LB-501 scale. What do you think?
I wouldn't freelance it at first. Flavors don't always taste the best solo. I'd find a recipe and go off that.

I agree with the other comment, single flavors aren't much fun. You're better off ordering the flavorings from a couple of recipes, following the "My First Order" Flavors list in the sidebar, or getting some premixes.
2oz bottles are fine for premixes but if you want to try mixing up recipes, do your own experiments, DIY basically, you should get 10 ml bottles and try things small scale first.
I'd skip the syringes all together and just grab a 100 pack of 3ml pipettes.
You can get it cheaper than this but prime is so useful...
Definitely mix by weight for consistency. I made the mistake of getting syringes and mixing by volume. bought a decent sized pack of them. I guess now i've got syringes for other applications though.

i put my nicotine into a 30ml LDPE bottle and just drop it into the mix. you still measure by weight. amber bottles are preferred since nicotine will break down due to light exposure.. but I keep it in a dry, cool, dark space so i figured it was 'k.

using 100mg/ml VG based nicotine, 3mg is 1.11g per 30ml. If your nic is PG based that's only 0.93g per 30ml.
it really helps to use a calculator like e-liquid-recipes.com which is free or alltheflavors.com if you feel like buying a considerably cheap subscription. otherwise there are also a few desktop based calculators in the sidebar.
with online calculators / recipe books you seem to get what you pay for. ATF offers creative commons licensing, ELR offers.... a quick and free place to store your own recipes and that's about it.
my process, which i assume is the same stuff everyone else does, to measure is to
- tare bottle weight
- weigh out one flavor
- tare again
- weigh out second flavor
- tare again, repeat until all flavor is added
- add PG if needed, tare.
- add VG, tare
- add nicotine, tare
- shake until your arm hurts and let it sit for 7-14 days.
you can then check to see if your total weight is on point with the calculator by placing an empty bottle on the scale, tare-ing the weight of it and then placing your completed mix on the scale. never had two bottles weigh the same, though. usually they're within .1g of eachother.
May sound silly but have I been entering my nicotine percentage wrong? I do 3% nic. So in the calculator I put 3% but I notice on a bottle of juice at the store it says 0.3%. I'm second guessing myself.
Depends what it is a percentage of.
3% of pure nic is 30 mg/ml.
3% of 100 mg/ml nic (10% dilution) is 3 mg/ml, or 0.3% of pure nic.
Confusing? I'd advice against using percentages for nic, use mg/ml if the calculator supports it, which it should.
I gotcha. They are just telling how much nicotine is in the bottle. So I'm putting it in the calculator right at 3%. I just over thought it and confused myself.
Anyone else get a salty taste from sweetener?
I first noticed it with the DOD Stachio RY4U. Also, had to pick up a bottle of retail juice this week. The saltiness is not prominent in an RDA, but I've tried both in a couple different RTAs, and I'm getting a salty flavor from them.
Doesn't happen with any of my diy stuff which i dont put sweetener in, or even most other vendors of retail (Adirondack, Whit E, etc).

I bought a 30/70 PG/VG base mix (street art series by cloud vapor) and a nicotine booster.
The recipe I was thinking of is based off of some recipes I found online, combined with my personal preference:

I was told that adding Pear in low doses (0.5% maybe?) can help boost certain fruity tones. Anyone have experience with pear in a banana/strawberry mix? Not sure if it would fit in.

check out the "Updated Percentages List" near the bottom, it gives you a good starting point for single flavor recipes. you might also see something interesting you might like to try.
the recipe looks pretty good to me. If you've got plenty of flavoring it's worth giving it a try and seeing if you like it. you may end up toning it down a bit, like..

I don't know if the pear would effect the banana very much but it should do something nice to the strawberry. The best, or one of the best, part(s) of mixing your own juice is you get to play around with the flavors and see how stuff works out for you.
Have you tried mixing it up yet? That seems like a lot of flavoring but not necessarily too much. Try it before you make any changes.

How do you guys go about trying out all your new recipes and flavors? Drip tank and just change out the cotton all the time? I've only got a wismec theorem tank, that has a gigantic wad of cotton to fill up, and a basic dual coil RDA my coworker gave me that hits me like a truck. Should I rebuild the RDA to lighten it up or maybe pick up a different atomizer?

I got ten flavor concentrates and all the vg and pg I need. I would like to taste each one individually, so my guess is to mix like 7% batches of each one with no nicotine. Then I can move on to the above question and deal with that hurdle.
In answer to your first question.... I'm no expert at this DIY thing since I've only been at it for about 3 months. But I've been using 510 Bridgeless Atomizers to test flavors. Not perfect, but you can change flavors just by wiping it out with a q-tip.
Depends on the flavors. For some, 7% would be a good tester. For others, it would be horrible overkill and taste nasty despite being a good flavor at a much lower %age. For a very few, it might be too light.

Im looking for a strong orange flavor. I have tried many but they taste to weak or dont stand out enough
FW Blood Orange is the best orange flavor I've tried. If it's too weak you could boost it with a bit of FA Orange, but don't overdo it or you will get burnt zest. Personally I prefer to add a bit of strawberry, it doesn't make it stronger, but it complements the orange to make a richer flavor.
Hey guys, found a simple chai tea latte recipe and tried to tweak it. The original was TPA VBIC - 7% and CAP Chai Tea - 7%. I added on FLV Vanilla Custard - 4% and FA Meringue-1%
I am leaving it to steep for 2 weeks or so before trying it due to the types of flavorings in there that need long steep. My question is, did I go overboard? I am now feeling like the original recipe itself was way too high in flavoring amounts and what I did is overkill. Only time will tell at this point but how does the recipe look like to you seasoned veterans? Thanks!
The VBIC is probably unnecessary to use at all in this recipe. The Chai Tea is also high. I don't think I went over 3% when I made something along the same lines
Yeah the VBIC and chai tea were from the original recipe. I realized after I made a 60ml bottle that it was at 7% and concluded that I fucked up. It smells really good though. Tried tasting it and it tastes a little spicy due to the chai tea. Very curious to see how it'll develop. I would like it to be at least vapeable but I feel like the chai tea is going to overpower and destroy everything
Should I order Bavarian Cream to add a milky sweetness to a recipe to make a berry crunch cereal? I am familiar with VBIC and know how to use that well, just wondering If there is any advantage with Bav Cream. Thanks
You should also consider TFA Vanilla bean gelato with FA cream fresh as a milk base (credit to Fizzmustard's Mustard milk diketone free recipe). Be careful using cream fresh though, more than 1-2% and you will get into 'toe cheese' territory.
What are some other brands of VG that you all use?
I just cannot vape this VG from Bulk Apothecary no matter how much PG I put in it. It's dry as a bone and makes my mouth the same. I stopped smoking my own juice for about 2 weeks and went back to the Vapor Chef. That juice doesn't do what my DIY juice does to my mouth. It has to be the VG.

DIY is an investment in yourself, not something you're doing for this sub or the community. Put some effort into troubleshooting it. Vape the VG as is. Is it bad? Try another brand or add some distilled water to it. Could it be the source? Palm, soy, coconut etc, try another source. If you've only tried one batch, it could be a bad batch.
Perhaps you have a sensitivity to PG? Is the nic okay? Maybe you need to try entirely different flavor profiles? Perhaps add some sweetener or something like INW Cactus to freshen things up. There's a ton of things that can affect the quality of your experience. Don't get discouraged by failures, learn from them. Again, this is something you do for yourself, not anyone else.
You shouldn't be smoking the juice. That's probably your problem. In all seriousness though, I doubt it's the VG. You should try to narrow down the source of your issue. Go to a pharmacy or Wal Mart and pick up some USP VG to test out. Maybe you got a bad batch of it from Essential Depot. But that's what I, and many of us use.
I make juice for myself and for my wife. We both vape 3mg. I have a few friends that would like to try some of my juices, but I'm not going to order any more concentrates just to give them some free juice. Some vape a 6 and one vapes a 12. My mixes are all sitting in glass bottles aging. If I wanted to give one of them a 6mg, I'm going to have to add .9g to a 30mL vial. What I want to know is if adding nic, 2 weeks after it's been aging at 3mg, will force a need to re-steep? Should I go ahead and add the extra nic to a 30mL vial now or can I just add the nic when he comes over and call it a day? Kinda thinking about giving him a 3 and just saying fuck it. Nicotine isn't cheap.

I'm having real trouble with Blackcurrant Inawera, I mix at 3% as Inawera recommended and other recipes I've seen but zero flavour after 2 weeks. Mixed another batch at 6% and I'm just not getting the flavour described by other users. I really need a good strong Blackcurrant to go with Menthol. Any ideas and am I doing something wrong with this flavour.
I'm good at 1%, increasing the amount can sometimes have the opposite effect. But there shouldn't be zero flavor, something is off.
Do you get flavor from other concentrates using the same PG/VG and tank? In that case you probably need another brand, I recommend Molinberry Blackcurrant if you can obtain that.
Do you pick up any scent if you smell the concentrate?

When trying to create, I usually start with 3-5% of two to three flavors. I'm not getting a whole lot of taste out of anything I'm mixing up. I'm not real into mixed with 37 flavors, I can't taste half of what i read in flavor notes most of the time so I feel it's kind of a waste. I'm just coming off the last few days of Apple Buttah, so if that's got my tongue numb to certain flavors it might be it.
Current latest too-light flavor mix is
INW Captain Jack for pipe 3% TFA Black Honey 3% TFA Vanilla Swirl 1% 50/50, 12mg
I'm just getting a hint of the Captain Jack, and not much else. When I tested the black honey it was pure sweet honey flavor at 50/50 and 4%. I wanted to cut some of that and let the Captain guide the ship with a bit of sweet courage behind him to help out (to put it in flavor note language).
Made two 10ml bottles. One I'm just going to vape through and the other is going to sit for a week before I try it again.
Tobaccos require much longer than a week to steep, and are definitely not a SnV
Sure, I expect that I'll have to wait for it to fully blend, but I didn't think there would be just almost no flavor from it in the beginning. The Black honey was really flavorful right away when I did a single flavor test with it, and so was the Captain Jack.
Is this just how it works with tobaccos? OK on single as SnV, but mix two together and the flavor goes away until steeped? I expected to be able as time goes on to experience how the flavors flow out and blend together.
So I just started diy, like literally just started. Made my first 50ml batch of a Mother's Milk clone I found on 99juices and freshly mixed the strawberry was overpowering. But I shook it and aired it out about every hour for a day and it already tastes way better and has gotten some color. It's already vapeable!! But I was curious about this Moo E-Liquids clone of Vanilla Almond Milk. The original recipe calls for TPA flavors but at the time of ordering I didn't know any better and got TFA instead. I now know that the flavor's company makes a difference in their flavor. As in FA strawberry and TPA strawberry can vary vastly in strength and note. But these flavors are very simple in my recipe. Is their any rule of thumb when trying to sub company's flavor for another? I heard somewhere that TFA flavors are weaker but here is the recipe Dairy milk TPA~ 5% French Vanilla TPA~5% Hazelnut TPA~ 4% Can I just do these percentages with TFA? Should I increase all of them and prepare to dilute if too strong if I do?
TFA and TPA are the same company. Also, don't breathe your mixes unless there is a flavor in them that contains alcohol and you need it to evaporate off quickly. Juices turning a different color (pink or red) is a sign of the nicotine oxidizing, and is not indicative of a steeped mix.
I know you don't want your juice to turn red but I thought a dark amber color was good. Something about the sugars or something. And how can I know if my concentrate has alcohols in it? Will it say it on the bottle or is there an online resource?
There shouldn't be any sugars in your juice. Sugars burn when vaporized. Unless you are using a flavor that has a color to it, you shouldn't look to the mix changing color as it being ready. There are only a handful that contain ethyl alcohol. Refer to the Data sheets by the manufacturer for the ingredients.

Does anyone know of a company that makes rambutan flavoring? All these Asian companies and I can't find a single rambutan flavoring.

They taste like rambutan.
They're related to lychee but don't taste like them (imo). They have a little bit of a bite like grapes do, but only that acidic sharpness, the flavor has nothing in common.
I don't know of one, you might have to DIY a rambutan flavor by trying some other fruit flavor that has something in common with it and tasting it, then figuring out what other flavors it would take to turn it into a rambutan. The right grape or a good lychee might be a starting place, but your best bet if you were to undertake such a project would IMO be FA Mangosteen.
What is the deal with acetyl? Is it something to avoid? What does it do to a flavor?
