Has anyone ever had VG that didn't agree with them?
submitted over 8 years ago by stayinwonderland

Just trying to trouble shoot a few things, getting to the stage where I may have to stop vaping. I think my last idea is that I really only vape DIY, and I got my last VG from ECX a good six months ago. Not the best place for VG.

So, can VG get old? It's just kept at room temp.

Or... has anyone ever found or heard about someone getting VG that went really harsh?

I'm kind of having to just go on theory/ideas right now as my lungs are so fucked I could vape something that would potentially agree with me, but it would still hurt like hell because of the state they're in. So it's hard to trouble shoot.

How certain are you that you're not just sick?

Actually I'm not. It's just that I've had this for almost two months now and it's happened before. If I vape ANYthing it hurts. I try to abstain a day or two and then try again, same thing.

6 months doesn't seem like a very long time for VG. Have you tried vaping just the VG with nothing else?

I used to have some chronic chest and nasal issues when I smoked. Might want to check with a doctor. Could end up not being vape related at all.

There is nothing wrong with ECX VG. Or shouldn't be at least.

Is it possible that it absorbed moisture from air and is containing a lot of water now?

well, it's in an opaque container with a lid. Don't really see how water could get in. Only other notion might be water getting into my glass bottles after I wash them. But there's only like a drop or two in 10ml.

Some people thin out thick juice with a little distilled/boiled water. I don't know if that can be a suspect...

I remember back when I started vaping, 2 months into it I got my first rda and a pile of different juices to try out... some days if I vaped a lot my lungs felt cooked. Inflamed and uncomfortable. Never really figured out what it was though, but I certainly found others online with the same experience.
Might've been the flavours, might've been the 50% pg... maybe the type of pg or vg? Maybe something about the rda or how I built in it? Maybe the cotton?
Later I got a bigger tank and better rda, and started buying liquid from a local shop and hardly noticed that my lungs never felt like that again. Maybe I was just getting used to the drying effect of pg and your problem is something completely different...
I dunno... gl

It's more likely your nicotine went bad, but I've had some sketchy VG before. It just tasted a bit off, but wasn't really harsh. Nicotine is the only thing that has gotten harsh on me suddenly. Took me too long to figure out what the problem was, I keep all my nicotine in the freezer now. Occasionally I'll go through a period of not being able to vape. Everything just tastes way too harsh and makes me want to cough, even pure VG. I don't really feel sick when this happens (happens maybe 1-2 times a year) and it only lasts like a week or two for me. My best guess is it's just an occasional respiratory infection that's not too bad and I don't really notice and my body is just sensitive to vape at that time. I'd try to vape just the VG alone, and then try making a mixture of just VG with 2-3mg of nicotine and see if that changes anything. Let a vaper friend try it too and see what they think. Also, if you recently quit smoking, that can cause this. I remember a few months after I quit smoking and switched to vaping I suddenly couldn't vape anything for a while, everything was harsh, I eventually got bronchitis and my chest was fucked for like 2 months. But that's just because I finally quit smoking, and apparently it would have happened after quitting cigarettes even if I didn't vape. All that built up shit in your lungs is leaving your system and your lungs are repairing themselves. Let me know if you find anything out!

it's funny, I've been posting this problem for a few years now. Had a year or two off any inhalants. But everyone assumes I've just quit. I never really smoked in the first place, lol. I only had one or two on the weekends. And like I say, that was now about 4 years ago.

But I'm guessing it's a lung infection. My nic has been in the freezer, unopened and recently transferred to the fridge for use. And it's from a reputable company.

Totally sounding like a lung infection after reading this. When my lungs are shit due to bronchitis or whatever, vaping is hard. Also, I'm starting to realize that keeping my coils clean helps a lot. For a while I was vaping on big fat Clapton that were strait up black, started to really feel like shit after a while.

USP VG shouldn't change much even over a very long time, as long as it's sealed against air, mostly for fear of absorbing water. There's not really anything for it to react with. The only thing would be if you let it sit in direct sunlight I suppose it could "break down" (IANA Chemist)?

Same boat right now. Quit smoking for good 2 months ago. Lungs are a complete wreck. I am on puffers now and need to go for a complete pulmonary check. Not saying its cause of vaping but its weird. I vaped off and on for 2 years no problem but now that i am completely off analogs i am a mess. All new flavours and nic and vg/pg. Even down to 1.5mg or even 0 sometime. Went a whole day without vaping with no improvement. Just gonna watch and shoot for now.

you quit analogs 2 months ago? give it time, lungs dont heal in months it takes years. but you should see improvement sometime

edit: i coughed up black tar for a year at least after quitting cigs. im finally to where i havent coughed any tar up in a cpl months and cough is going away though i still have to clear my throat a lot presumably from e cigs.

I agree with this. From what I've seen, heavy smokers can have a rough time switching over due to the damaged lungs being irritated by the vape flavorings and PG. It goes away but can take like 6+ months and it makes it way harder for some people to switch over.

It may be worth trying to vape stronger ejuice and less of it in order to get the nicotine fix without having go vape as much at first.

Short answer, no. Never had or heard of harsh VG... Never noticed any bad effects from VG.

I read that you just used to smoke a couple of cigarettes on the weeked. If this is true, I think that it's improbable this is the cause for your lung problems.

Go to a doctor.

And I've heard people report differences between VG batches, like some is not smelling or tasting right. There are quite a few ways of deriving VG, so that's normal, not all are equal.

Make sure you get at least USP/EP/BP grade VG!

I'm more inclined to think that I have chronic bronchitis or something. Although I don't have any other symptom than a harsh feeling in the lungs, and pain when I vape. But I can't afford the $300-$500 to get the tests done right now so google is my doctor.

No, Google is not a doctor, Google is a hypochondria machine.

You need the tests, make saving the money for the test your top priority.

Also if you don't cough or have any other symptom and it only occurs while vaping it's unlikely that you have a lung condition.

If there is no underlying lung condition it's sensitivity or allergy to one of the ingredients. It might be PG (no reported cases for VG for now) or flavourings. Start eliminating and testing.
