6 months of trying to develop an authentic blue raspberry flavor like a few of my favorite premiums. Am I missing something?
submitted over 8 years ago by tylurnt1

Blue raspberry has been my favorite candy flavor for as long as I can remember. When I first started vaping there wasn't many blue raspberry juices but now there's a ton and it's mostly the only premium flavor I bought since they all came out. My favorite premium blue raspberries are air factory blue raz, bones by vape society, and bazooka blue razz sour straws. I've haven't been able to even get remotely close. I've been trying to develop a blue raspberry flavor since the day I started vaping. I have Tried EVERY blue raspberry on the market and even some that aren't marketed for vaping but still are PG based. Tried variations of combinations of each one and haven't gotten anywhere. For the 6 months since I started DIY I've gone through Atleast 200 variations trying to create an authentic blue raspberry and only made some decent ones that weren't close to the premiums. Even tried copious amounts of sweetner trying to imitate them.

so my first question is, do some premiums make their own flavoring , or do they use a combination of flavors to develop a blue razz that I haven't thought of? So I started to look at regular raspberry flavorings instead of all the blue razz flavors I have but still haven't gotten a raspberry flavor very close to blue raspberry.

So my 2nd question is have you came across a raspberry flavor that resembles blue raspberry? I haven't tried ALL the raspberry flavors but wanted to come here for a suggestion before I ordered every raspberry flavor there is.

So far the closest I've gotten is:

-Blue raspberry slush (OSDIY) 4.5%

-Raspberry Sweet (TFA) 3%

-Blue raspberry (FW) 4%

-Raspberry v1 (CAP) 1.5%

Any opinions and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Blue Raspberry is Raspberry Sweet + Juicy Peach. You will shake your head and refuse to believe until you try it.

Edit: Here's a recipe

Can I do it without the jelly candy?

The Jelly Candy plus dragonfruit help to impart a candy-ish taste. So I'm gonna go on a limb and say no.

He said raspberry sweet and juicy peach is blue raspberry so I was assuming the rest was just additives to make it more fun and dimensional.

That's blue voodoo.

2 points

by EdibleMalfunctionover 8 years agoThat Sugar Cookie Guy

It's some kind of voodoo

2 points

by McTouchButtover 8 years ago

Blue voodoo clone is

10% Juicy Peach 5% sweet rasp and 5% sucralose.

It didn't really scratch the itch. Does the Jelly candy and Dragon fruit help?

I've tried that. it's nothing like blue raspberry to my personal pallette

by EdibleMalfunctionover 8 years agoThat Sugar Cookie Guy

You've tried that ratio of Raspberry Sweet to Juicy Peach?

1 points

by sensfan5555over 8 years ago

I agree. Juicy peach and rasberry sweet do not in any way resemble blue rasberry to me. Closer to a "fuzzy peach" candy

1 points

by MNVapesover 8 years ago

Hmm I retired both those flavors a while back in favor of capella and inawera versions. Do you think I could sub inawera raspberry for the TFA raspberry? I still have a few ozs of juicy peach left.

Probably not. You could try. But those are two completely different raspberries

Hey man! Just made up a batch of this as 50/50 to try out on a new MTL tank I've got coming in the post today. Reckon it'll be good as a shake and vape with that much PG or does it really need those 3 days steep time?

1 points

by EdibleMalfunctionover 8 years agoThat Sugar Cookie Guy

You can try it. But those few days are needed for the Jelly Candy to calm down

1 points

by robbiepellagreenover 8 years ago

I'll give it a little go when my tank gets here and will let you know haha. Kicking myself I didn't think a few days ahead :P

For your first question, a few do but the vast majority use CAP, TFA, FW, etc just like us. Assume if a premium has been around a few years it uses primarily those three (oh and I almost forgot LA) maybe FA, INW, FLV (and some others) if it's a bit newer.

Sorry not a raspberry fan so can't help with the other part.

Not only is this true, but even now the bigger companies can't rely on those last mentioned to provide such large amounts on a consistent basis. They have to rely on the big 3/4

1 points

by iamgr3mover 8 years ago

Yes they can, they just have to wait for shipping (in the case of FA and INW) order more than you need and reorder sooner than you would need to for it to reach you.

might want to try my Razzy Rancher. It tastes like a blue raspberry jolly rancher. Great right away, better after a couple of weeks.

I don't have razzle berry but I do need to try that. I recently got TPA raspberry but I think I got a bad batch. I Mixed at 10% and it's insanely sour and harsh and dorsnt taste good at all. is it supposed to be like that?

2 points

by mlNikonover 8 years ago

no, 10% is way too much. Less is more. If you go too high you get off flavors.

by DGsirb1978over 8 years ago

Sounds like your using too much flavor to start with

by Bananus01over 8 years ago

This looks really good, and I have almost everything to mix it! Except FA Sour wizard... I have Malic Acid from TFA. Would that work?

3 points

by mlNikonover 8 years ago

it would as I have used that in previous versions, just not as good imo.

Your missing Blue Raspberry Cotton Candy by CAP

by tylurnt1over 8 years ago

I doesn't really have the blue razz tastes. All I taste is ethyl maltol with a hint of blue razz. It is pretty good mixed with other blue raspberry flavors though

I don't know what whitebark raspberries taste like so my only reference for blue raspberry is the artificial taste that was added to so many things basically as an excuse to use blue dye.

I also spent a long time chasing down the profile and landed on Blue Frost which is my most well received recipe online and IRL. It has /u/ID10-T's seal of approval if that means anything to you ;)

I just vaped a bottle of this 2-3 days ago that I mixed back in December. Pretty good stuff man. Thanks for this one.

Well, OSDIY Blue Raspberry Slush all by itself at 10% has my seal of approval as far as the classic excuse to use blue dye flavor goes, but OP sounds way more selective/obsessive about his blue raspberries than that.

But hell yes, Blue Frost has my approval, it takes OSDIY's already good standalone flavor and... elevates doesn't cover it, more like launches it into orbit.

I'm actually blushing right now though, I don't think anyone's ever boasted about having my approval on or for anything, unless you count my kid bragging to his mother about having my permission to use a BB gun.

just had to add my lol @ the bb gun comment.

I get my boys three days a week, every week. If the stories they tell when I have to return them to their mother result in threats of going back to court for supervised or at least less frequent visits, we had a good week.

Haha yes I'm pretty obsessive about my blue raspberry. If it wasn't for these few premiums that nailed the flavor I would have just given up and thought I'll never be able to get it down. But assuming another person can nail it with the same flavor brands I use, why can't I? I just wanna know what the hell I'm missing lol

Well all have our little flavor obsessions, blue raspberry just happens to be yours. With enough trial and error and hopefully a little luck, you'll harpoon that white whale.

You been messing with sucralose? I'm assuming your premiums have a boatload of it.

And Ethyl Maltol for that candy effect.

OOO Blue Raspberry Candy is bang on. Although the sites says it's pg based I can confirm that it is vg based. Still very, very good but needs a little extra agitation and time.

1 points

by tylurnt1over 8 years ago

I have that actually it just had a weird after taste for Me. I thought it was PG based because the way I test is shake the concentrate bottle and if it easily shakes, then it's PG. 100%VG doesn't shake to well and the OOO was easily shaken

1 points

by RedDread1973over 8 years ago

That's strange, I've ordered it twice and both were so thick it was certainly vg.

The closest I've had to date is AR Blue Raspberry DiyFS

by tylurnt1over 8 years ago

really? it had a weird twang to it for me

1 points

by brandosnydro312over 8 years ago

Agreed. Ordered a bottle of AR Blue Raspberry and all I could smell was..peroxide? I'm not sure. I just got Liquid Barn Blue Raspberry in today. Have you played with that yet at all?

1 points

by tylurnt1over 8 years ago

yes I have. Any blue raspberry u can think of i have tried I guarantee it lol . LB blue raspberry is nice. Just not all the way there for me but it's not a bad flavor at all

by McTouchButtover 8 years ago

I'm with you bro, been dying for a good blue rasp

by robbiepellagreenover 8 years ago

Man I am in the same boat! I have tried every blue raspberry concentrate out there and haven't been able to get what I'm after. The only one I haven't tried yet is WF Sour Blue Raspberry Candy which is currently on the way in the post at the moment.

To me personally, the penultimate blue raspberry juice is Blue Razzz by Northland Vapor. It has been my favourite juice since first trying it a year ago, it's got the perfect balance of sweet and sour/tart that I am yet to see any DIY recipes even come close to. None of my own endeavours have come close either. This flavour is definitely my white whale.

2 points

by tylurnt1over 8 years ago

the blue razz WF is decent. It's not there tho. I'm currently using serveral blue raspberry flavors to kind of create a good balance but I'm losing hope. I might just go back to finding a regular raspberry flavor mixed with low% of blueberry below 3% Blueberry FW has a nice 'blue' taste to it that could easily be used to create it. If u like blue razz you definitely need to try air factory blue raz..it is soooooo good! the Mystery flavor is just as good to. Only like 26 bucks for a 100ml

by mysticrosellover 8 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

Maybe a hint of boysenberry too? It's a very bright berry flavor that is a bit closer to the raspberry side than a blackberry.

2 points

by mysticrosellover 8 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

Or even just a drop or 2 of a blackberry with a raspberry?

Maybe make a 6-7% TPA Raspberry Sweet with 2 drops of a blackberry, an one with 4-5 drops of boysenberry as a starter and see if either head in the right direction?

1 points

by Reldofover 8 years agoWTF is a "Terpene?"

My blue razz probably isn't anywhere as authentic as you want it but I use 1% INW Raspberry, 5% TPA Raspberry (sweet), 3% TPA Blueberry(wild) and 3% CAP Harvestberry

There is no blueberry in Blue Raspberry

Try this out! Yubbys Blue Raspberry

Ingredient|% :---|---: Cactus (INAWERA)|0.3 Forest Mix (Forest Fruit) (FA)|1 Raspberry (INAWERA)|1 Raspberry (Sweet) (TPA)|5.5 Sweetener (Sucralose) (ECX)|0.3

Flavor total: 8.1%

Remember to rate it at e-liquid-recipes.com!

FA Raspberry 3%
FW Blueberry 4%
FW Hard Candy 1%
Makes a pretty good blue raspberry jolly rancher.

by tylurnt1over 8 years ago

I'll have to try that out. never had much luck with using blueberry but I'll have to try your version

Yeah let me know if you like it

Try Kandi hed - blue raspberry it's easily the most realistic blue raspberry I've tried ! It needs a high % in a mix but add 1/2 % INW raspberry an you have a great vape
