Setup: velocity v2; Single Flat SS Clapton .5Ω; full cotton wicks
Testing: CAP Yellow Cake aged: 30 days (tried at 1 day, 7 days) 70/30 vg/pg 1.5mg nic
Flavor description: Moist but airy cake flavor. Slightly sweet, light vanilla but it lacks that cakey-ness that something like JF yellow cake has. Reminds me more of box vanilla bean cake than a box yellow cake, not far away from the taste of these without butter: https://www.amazon.com/Trader-Joes-Vanilla-Cake-Baking/dp/B00DZDHBBK Compared to JF yellow cake, this one has less body and is slightly less concentrated.
Off-flavors: Nothing to note.
Throat hit: Smooth, nothing.
Uses: I have actually never used FW yellow cake, I have used both this and JF yellow cake as subs. I find this one to work quite well as a substitute for FW, in the recipes that call for FW I use it at a 1:1 ratio. I’ve used it in many popular mixes that call for FW and all ended up fantastic.
This could be used as the base of a cake/cupcake/muffin recipe at 4-6%.
(I am of thinking using this and JF yellow cake in a 2:1 ratio (CAP:JF) for a cake base.)
This can be used as an additive like FW yellow cake from 1-2%
Pairings: Creams, bakeries, fruits, cereals, caramel, butterscotch, nuts, cinnamon and some spices, almost anything that pairs with vanilla or somewhere to add moist/airy mouthfeel.
Notes: As a shake and vape the flavor is great, not noticing a huge change from day 1 to day 7 or day 30 for that matter. This is not a strong or overbearing flavor to begin with and doesn’t get much more pronounced or mellow with time passage. Maybe it’s just me but I get vanilla here so that could limit pairings somewhat.
Second Opinions
Some people on ELR like it, others say at 10 and 15% no flavor
Mostly good stuff on Bull City, except one guy who likes FW, nothing on ECX
/u/Arpeggiator8472 says it’s the FW yellow cake killer i can't agree because i've never had FW but i agree through him.
/u/xxoonn uses it in a nice looking donut
coop also utilizes it for a yummy cinnamon roll
pretty versatile ingredient and it's being utilized more and more from what I see
To me, this tastes exactly like what you'd think a Capella making a yellow cake flavor would taste like. It's mostly there, but it had a weird muddiness on the back end and a sour, astringent top note. The actual meat of the flavor is good-ish but there is something about the way this flavor is built that just doesn't work. Like the cake just collapses right at the end and you get a bunch of raw flour. I've heard that top note described as Anise, but it's the same flavor I get out of the Capella bakeries I've tried. FW seems both richer and more delicate at the same time. Apparently fructose tastes awesome.
I've had a tester of this down for a while and I've hesitated on digging into it because people actually care about this stuff and Capella flavors don't really agree with me for whatever reason. Thank you for the review, and giving me a space to rant.
I get what you mean, there's something keeping me from loving this as a solo flavor. Maybe the top note you speak of is what I'm mistaking for vanilla type flavor. I can't say it's really off at this % but there just isn't enough cake going on and I couldn't imagine going up to 10% to find it.
I like what it does to some mixes, I throw it in my vanilla custard. I like JF more for an actual cake but I would buy this again.
I would bet any amount that fructose is fantastic but I just avoided FW yellow cake because I knew I'd probably love it. Thanks for your notes.
Also, I think DIYFS angel food cake is worth checking out if you like this type of thing.
I have to agree. I get an off chemical/astringent note from it as well, and I'm glad you spoke up. I'd knocked it up to my weird palate, but this one just doesn't cut the mustard for me. While I've backed away from rampant abuse of FW Yellow Cake in all its coil killing glory, I've not found this to be a suitable replacement for me. I've yet to try the JF offering, but I plan to soon.
I was wondering if I should pick this up over JF Yellow Cake. Seems I picked the right choice getting JF over Cap's version for me personally.
Thanks for the review.
I mix this with cupcake, milky undertone and a few creams at around 1% each with a drop of sweet and EM. Makes a very light sweet tasty all day vape. Your cotton will last months before they need a change while vaping 10-15ml a day @ 1mg nic 90/10 mix.
Edit: Sometimes I add some hazelnut, meringue, and cream cheese icing but then I cut the whole recipe in half by doubling my base. Gets sweeter over time. If it gunks up too fast cut it with more base VG/PG...
> Total fail from capella. It doesnt taste like cake, not even close to a cake taste. Ultra weak flavor, even at %15 - 1 month steep no taste, null. If you are looking for mouthful cake taste, you will be disappointed. Throwed 100ml batch as well as 30ml flavor itself to garbage.
Don't need a Yellow Cake review from someone who hasn't tasted FW's version?
Why can't we have both?
FW Yellow Cake is possibly dangerous to vape. In addition having a alternative point of view is always a plus.
