Larger Bottles for DIY - WTFLab Bottle Caps Breaking (x-post from /r/Canadian_ecigarette)
submitted over 8 years ago by libererchoisi

Edit/Update: Scott from WTF Lab contacted me below and I submitted a customer service request. WTF Lab will be sending out some replacement caps, but this seems like an isolated incident with the caps I received.

Will update further if things change or I have different results with the next batch.

Calling all Canadian DIY-ers!

Have any of you purchased the 120ml PE bottles from WTF Lab?

I bought 20 a little while ago (around November) and, at first, I thought that the people I was giving juice to were just screwing up when closing the bottle, but 4 or 5 different people have complained that their caps of broken or come off in their pockets or in their backpack, probably running at about a 25-45% rate of complaints for the bottles.

I was willing to give WTF Lab the benefit of the doubt here (and blame my friends/co-workers) until today, when the cap on a 120ml bottle snapped while I was made half a turn into securing it on a newly mixed bottle (therefore, this was the first time putting it on).

WTF Lab doesn't have a review system for their bottles (that I could find on the site), so I was wondering if any of you have had a similar experience with these?

Also, anyone have solid suggestions for larger bottles (60ml to 120ml) that are newer and I may have missed? I would like to avoid PET, but I think I might have to resort to it at this point.

Here's what I've tried or looked at so far:

  • I've tried the 65ml droppers from DIY-eJuice.com, but the flexible neck makes them a pain to screw on...Seems like Flavour Fog has the same bottles
  • The 120ml bottles at SaVapeur look like they might actually be the same as WTFLab, only an extra 40 cents per bottle...same with [Fusion Flavours](https://www.fusionflavou, soa/collections/plastic-dro either ofes-ldpe/products/120ml-dr if they had cap issuessistant-cap-pe), so if someone has purchased either of them, please let me know if they had cap issues...
  • As much as I love him and everything he does (especially with the new, speedy website), TheBrokeVaper only has LDPE in 30ml and 60ml in only PET Unicorn bottles, which I'm not a huge fan of...
  • Paragon only has 60ml and up in capped bottles...

Thanks for any help!

These are hands down my favorite bottles for 60/120ml. They are a little bit more but are sturdy and just look cool. Also they don't have the fort knox child resistant crap that Gorilla bottles do.

For a PET bottle, how is the squeeze?

That's the number 1 complaint I have for PET bottles - they tend to be hard to squeeze, which is personally irritating when trying to fill a large tank.

They are thin enough to be squeezable, but it's still PET. They are also a lot easier to mix in though since they have such a wide opening on the top.

Hrm...

I'll have to think about it because of their international shipping policy (I know they are good for it and Canada won't be a problem for just bottles, but I may need them sooner than they can process and deliver through the ), but thanks for the link and the info!

I hate those tips tho. To big for tanks and can't precisely drip on my RDAs either lol. I think chubby gorillas are damn good bottles. Just sucks trying to get the dispenser out

by libererchoisiover 8 years ago

yeah, diy-ejuice.com was one of the places I have purchased from in the past that I put in my original comment. haha

the 65ml and 140ml bottles are cylinders and because of that they have this weird flexible neck that makes it a pain in the ass to screw down and tighten up.

Thanks though!

Online, there have decent 60ml bottles or 120ml and are quite sturdy

never had a problem.

60ml: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M2BCNJZ - up to a 50 pack

100ml: https://www.amazon.com/100mL-LDPE-Plastic-Bottle-Squeezable/dp/B010XXBF66/ - only 10 packs.

yeah, I know, it's the hardest part about trying to find them!

There are so many options on Amazon.com (Compared to .ca), but there are like 3 that ship to Canada and I won't be able to get down to the States for a pick up for some time.

you can cut the price down a little but on those 30ml's by getting these...

https://www.glassbottleoutlet.com/product/30-ml-natural-bottle-with-fine-tip-and-black-child-resistant-cap-pe-13415

youll pay for shipping vs the free with prime, but its way less than 40$ per 100 bottles...

edit: says out of stock atm... but im sure theyll have them soon enough...

I have a similar problem with their 60ml PET bottles. 1/10 bottles the cap breaks.

1 points

by libererchoisiover 8 years ago

Really? I haven't had much of an issue with the 60ml bottles, maybe 1 broke, but it was because I tried to tear the childproofing off with a pair of pliers...

I use these and they work great. Shipping is expensive, but if you Google for a promo code you can get the shipping knocked way off. They also have the same bottles in bulk for even less, something like $0.40/bottle. I buy the ones listed on this page that are $12.10/case.

I've used this for at least a year:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/351771224169

I've re-used each bottle at least 5 times. Snug cap. Write your info on it bottle then cover with regular clear packing tape. When done, rip it off, wipe down, clean and start process again.

Also, the neck is wide enough to fit a regular sized marble (for quick steeping).

Can't recommend these enough.

Fast shopping too.

With the exchange and shipping, that's like $2.12 a bottle, so probably not going to work for me as a regular supply.

However, I'm going to bookmark it for the next time that I'll be able to make it down to my parents' place in the States and just order a ton of them haha.

Thanks though!

Sorry bruv, I guess I skimmed the first sentence.

Best of luck!

haha yeah, we don't have a Canadian-centric DIY subreddit (to my knowledge), so I cross-posted it here.

You're not the first to skim it and you won't be the last :P

I'm looking for bottles. Made my first order last night. It says a case. How many bottles do you get ?

by iLLNiSSover 8 years ago

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but what do you mean by the cap is breaking off? Like the nipple is coming off when you squeeze, or the screw on cap comes off? Or the neck of the bottle is breaking away with both the nipple and the cap?

I've been using the 100mL PEs since he started and honestly haven't heard of any issue aside from the nipple coming off from time to time when squeezed too hard.

The cap snaps into 2 pieces, not the nipple or the bottle.

If you have one of their caps, the ones that come with the tamper-proof piece under the main cap, you'll notice that the cap has two parts:

  • The inner cap that the tamper-proof ring is attached to And
  • The outer cap.

The inner cap is connected to the tamper-proof on the bottom and another "cover-like" piece that is not fully connected to the outer cap (if you jiggle the outer cap clockwise and counterclockwise, you'll be able to rotate it like a 1/16th of a rotation in either direction.

What has happened on numerous occasions now is that the inner cap portion has a molded part up inside the outer cap that is shaped like the needle tip and that part is breaking away from both the outer cap and the rest of the inner cap.

I wish I still had an example to show you, because it's pretty obvious to me what is going on, but I've seen it.

At first, I told the 2 guys who mentioned it within a week of each other that they didn't need to screw it on with Hulk strength and that they probably broke it by over-tightening. Then I had 3 or 4 more complaints over the next month from 2-3 other people, so I started to get suspicious, but since it hadn't happened to me, I just assumed user error.

Then, 2 weeks ago I had a co-worker tell me that the last bottle I gave him about 3 weeks prior had been fine up until that morning.

Finally, it happened to me. I was screwing the cap on after I finished mixing a bottle and just as I got to where I would normally stop tightening, SNAP! The outer part of the cap was in my tightening hand, but the inner cap was still affixed to the top of the bottle, tamper-proof ring keeping it in place.

There really wasn't a lot of pressure when it snapped, no more than usual, that is, and I've personally tightened each of the 14 or so I had used so far, at least once, so I don't see how I could have broken the plastic this time, but not the other 40-50 times I've tightened them (including the bottles I've made myself and poured into tanks over and over again).

As I mentioned previously, I'm probably looking at a close to 50% fail rate here and, while I would always like to believe the simplest answer (operator error), it just doesn't seem likely that 6-7 people would all be having the same issue with the 120mls and not the 60mls unless it's a materials issue.

Then again, maybe we're all just ham-handed ogres...

Wow interesting.

I wonder if his 120mL bottles came from a different supplier. The caps should be the same between all the sizes if they are from the same supplier. I've used 10, 30 and 100ml (hundreds) and I've never once had this happen.

Or maybe he's switched suppliers in general since my last order :(

by libererchoisiover 8 years ago

Yeah, the 60ml and 120ml caps are in the same bag (I ordered them together) and they work fine for the 60ml and only seem to be an issue with the 120ml

Seems like they only do orders over 200, yeah?

Also, I couldn't find any information about shipping to Canada, but I'll shoot them an email and see what the situation is.

Thanks!

I think they do international shipping to Canada. If not, let me know and I'll see if I can find somewhere that ships bulk international.

EDIT: I've ordered as little as two bottles before lol. Paid more for shipping than the bottles but I really needed the bottles.

I have a bunch of their bottles and the caps break pretty easily. It isn't easy finding bottle suppliers in Canada.

If you're willing to put some time into browsing and taking to vendors, get on alibaba.com. I think I paid 108 USD for 200 LDPE tamper proof 60mls. Actually, let me know if your interested and I'll dig up the vendor name. It came within a week from China to Ontario and I was really happy with the quality.

Yeah, I messaged a local Canadian juice vendor and he suggested Alibaba as well, so I'll be looking into it.

If you are able to find that vendor name, that would be great!

That might be one of the most promising yet. Those prices are very good, even with the exchange.

I'll have to see what shipping is though.

Thanks!

I hope it helps you. I buy from them because they sell smaller amounts. 55 60ml droppers is more then enough for a couple months for me.They are based out of Texas. So far after a couple days of processing they get it right in the mail. And then it take another 3 days to get to me in south fl. I bought 55 glass 60ml drippers and 100 30ml plastic and the shipping was $20 to here . good luck m8

by libererchoisiover 8 years ago

Wow...I just checked and the cheapest shipping option is $12.24 more than the actual cost of the bottles for 200 plastic bottles:

  • 100 x 60ml and 120ml: $64.00
  • Shipping (lowest option is Priority Intl): $76.24

Funny thing is...because of the price point, even with shipping and exchange, they are only about 30 cents more expensive than the local supplier, but that's still almost an additional 50% increase in price...if I go up to 300 bottles, the price point dives 10 cents per bottle and if I just buy 500 of the 60ml, I'm looking at only 9 cents higher than local.

I can't bite on it now, but I'm definitely bookmarking this for when I make a final decision.
