Cap Golden Butter vs TFA Butter
submitted over 8 years ago by pyotr_the_cat

Anyone try them both? . I've read that Cap original butter (which was called just Butter) was great but they reformulated and now they are calling it Golden Butter. I've also read that tfa butter is nothing but A/AP and some people think its disgusting but i've seen it used in a lot of good recipes (it's also in the awesome-box that Wayne reviewed). ELR doesn't have any warnings for Golden Butter so it might not contain diketones. How is that possible for a flavor that's pure butter. I am a tad confused. I personally have only tried CAPs Golden Butter I've still yet to try TFA's Butter and I am trying to figure out if its worth it.

TL;DR CAP golden butter vs TFA Butter which is best and why.

I haven't tried CAP's Golden butter, but TFA's butter is straight up butter, which can be perfect in the right application. It's great to add mouth feel, density, and some moister to bakeries without adding other flavors.

My understanding was that they simply renamed Butter to Golden Butter, no reformulation. I could be wrong.

This is what I remember as well.

I'll third this, they just renamed it. Nothing changed otherwise.

My friend loves the Capella's butter. I cannot attest to it. I have Lorann's butter, which works very well in VERY low percentages. (it's also loaded with Diacetyl/etc)

CAP Golden Butter review by /u/ConcreteRiver

I'm inclined to agree with this review and go even a bit further to say it's kinda just gross (at 4%) in small amounts it might be useful. I haven't single flavor tested TFA Butter yet

I have both... I have single flavor tested both.... golden butter didn't taste like anything to me. Taste is subjective of course and I have had several people tell me they subbed it out in my sugar cookies and cream recipe with success. Since it perform so poorly in a single flavor test not something I bothered to try mixing with other flavors.

TFA butter on the other hand is exactly what it's supposed to be tastes just like butter. The only reason I could see not using this flavor is if you're trying to avoid AP and it's friends

I have also subbed caps GB in your cookie recipes. let me confess something. It was because of YOUR recipes that i started this thread. Kind of. I have always thought that TFA butter sucks and most recipes that I like that called for butter use caps. Then I noticed that you use tfa's in almost fucking everything man and I wanted to ask. Plus as I mentioned it was in the awesome box so I thought maybe I was wrong it is worth a try. I love diketones and saw somewhere that tfa's butter is the most a/ap loaded flavor they have so I'll def give it a try. cheers!
