Ah, my bad... hmm, not sure what to do now. Should I leave this post up? I'm worried that the YouTube video is still posted, however...

It's still relevant, might as well leave it up. Mostly just linking to the previous thread on it, not calling you out for reposting or anything like that.

As you can see in that other thread coffee extraction is in the sidebar here and there are many advocates for it being safe. They are just people that vaped their extracts a lot but I don't think they did any tests. Not saying their experience means nothing, it's still valuable data.

I don't know if it's safe or not. I've chosen not to do it personally based on it not being worth the risk. Even in the other thread you have people saying it isn't safe but not saying they've tested it and found for sure it is terrible for you. Lipids would obviously be bad but how much exactly is in a coffee extraction? Do you know? Are there different methods that result in more or less lipids in the final product? Those are the things I'm interested in even though I have no plans to do it.

Good question... maybe I should ask about this subject in /askscience. I don't want to give people the wrong impression about vaping, though...

Because VG is of course "super goopy".

Crazy, eh? And they didn't even go into a good basic explanation of PG and VG...

This is the same channel that has a DIY tattoo instructional video. Can't honestly understand if it is serious or a poor attempt at comedy.

Like "the onion" for YouTube?

No. The Onion is actually funny (although sometimes it hits too close home).

I've reported the video to Youtube for dangerous activity -> suicide or self injury. If we all do the same maybe youtube will take it down.

It's also chock full of diacetyl. I don't care what risks people choose to take but they have to know what they are before they can make a choice.

Yes, well, I did a few months back. I just usually play a game to screw around with people 'cause I suck at PvP ;)

Why should it be removed/censored?

There should be access to this information. Instead of inflaming the situation, why not try to communicate to the original creators to append additional safety information.

Everyone should be entitled to their own risk.

Unless the information is inherently dangerous. We have to take into account that most people know very little about vaping. People are entitled to their own risk, yes... but people are also responsible to minimize risk when presenting information to others. The producers of the video should, at the very least, append a researched list of why vaping home-made coffee extract is probably not good for one's lungs due to even the small risk of causing lipid pneumonia.

The kind of person who is just getting into vaping is a small demographic.

The kind of person who is just getting into vaping and getting into diy is a smaller demographic.

The kind of person who is just getting into vaping and getting into diy and is interested in self made extracts is tiny. And I'm going to make a blanket statement and say that those people are the kind who are more likely to be also the kind of person who does extra research.

This is all anecdotal and opinion though.

My main thing is that you shouldn't suppress information, you should supplement it, explain it further, give more details.

My recent experience says otherwise.

I only started vaping a few months ago, and messed around with DIYing with concentrates (not least because buying nicotine eliquid is technically illegal).

I had heard elsewhere that making your own extracts was potentially dangerous, but when I happened across this sub and found the DIY extracts post in the sidebar I figured it must be ok.

I made a post last night about the possibility of making a vapeable citrus extract, and even went ahead and made some coffee extract according to the recipe therein, while I awaited responses to my post.

Now had I not happened to have previously heard that home-made extracts are potentially toxic/dangerous, I probably would have mixed up some juice from my home made concentrate on the spot and given it a hit. However, my cautious nature intervened and I ended up just tossing it down the sink.

The point is, people expect specialised subs like this to be pretty tight ships. It's not unreasonable for a newbie vaper to rock up here without having done any prior research into extracts, see that post in the sidebar, and think "well they seem to make a big deal about reading the sidebar, I guess if this is in there it must be legit!" and get to work making dodgy extracts in a saucepan on their stovetop.

So while you may be right in the grand scheme of things, to say that maybe it would be better to edit the post with appropriate loud warnings and more rigorous instruction, as it stands I think it's better that it simply be removed for now.

And for what it's worth, I think the whole 'information should never be suppressed' thing is a form of extremism, and contravenes the much more sensible 'everything in moderation' paradigm. I find the people crowing about how censorship is always bad are often the first to condemn parents who buy R18+ video games for their 12 year old children. Censorship has its place. Everything in moderation. Information can be dangerous.

I'm more offended by the promotion of 50/50 vg/pg ratio juice.

Why

Because this is Reddit and we need to keep everything at a constant outrage level or the whole thing blows up. Think Speed, but with less Keanu and entirely too much Dickbutts.

This comment just made me do the Ryan Gosling Giggle.

It's been a bad day otherwise, so, thank you!

Because I vape a dual stacked 26650 mechanical mod with a very large RDA on top and that much PG would fry my throat.
