Contaminated Flavors/Dilutants
submitted over 8 years ago by nothing7473

TL;DR: Can you sanitize extracts and dilutants or do I need to reorder my inventory?

Long story short I had to visit my physician because I was beginning to feel chest pains in what seemed to be my lung areas. Not here to get advice on my health or anything, I haven't touched my mod in several days; Just curious if anyone could give me advice on my flavors/dilutants. Moreover, do I need to throw away my entire supply or is it possible to sanitize this stuff? The idea I had was too add alcohol to extracts and then allow it to evaporate out. I know this might sound really dumb but I am ignorant to this stuff.

Edit: I did do a cursory search for this topic but I couldn't find anything on it.

Edit 2: Thanks so much for all of the replies. I guess I'm just going have to figure out if I am having an allergic reaction to something in my juice. I really appreciate that I got so much feedback on this.

Your chest pain/lung issue can be a plethora of things related to vaping or not related to vaping at all.

You might be allergic to one or more a couple of compounds common to certain vape flavors (but not all of them).

Do you prefer citrus or tropical fruit flavors, by chance?

No not particularly. I don't actually have any besides mango and dragonfruit, which I rarely use. My ADV is a strawberry flavor. I vape diketones pretty regularly but that wouldn't be reason to cause a sudden irritation after a year of vaping would it?

Sudden allergic reactions can come in adulthood and even late adulthood.

Did you make any changes to your recipes, vendors, etc?

Well I did accidentally add too much flavoring to the juice that I am assuming is 'contaminated'. Seems pretty probable that the issue could be that, now that you suggest it. But nonetheless I can't be 100% sure and that worries me. After this passes I still won't know if something hasn't infected my ingredients unless I fix my recipe and don't have to go to the hospital.

Nothing yet. I have to get an x-ray on Monday. I'll update this when I get results in case anyone is interested.

Are you licking your flavorings? I am confused as to why you think your flavorings are contaminated... Or am I missing something?

I was told by someone that propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin are perfect breeding grounds for bacteria. Admittedly I never much looked into this...

PG is antimicrobial. I'd bet serious money that it wasn't any sort of contaminated vape stuff that made you sick.

VG definitely... PG I'm not sure. I guess I'm not understanding what your concern is. Are you afraid that you are sick and thus want to sanitize everything or are you afraid that the flavorings caused whatever you're experiencing. Either way, I don't think there is an effective means to sanitize your flavors, PG or VG.

I mean I'm positive that I have some sort of condition, in my chest/lung area, although I can't say for certain that it is due to vaping. And the fear would be the latter, that my flavors or dilutants caused the symptoms I am experiencing.

Propylene glycol kills bacteria and viruses immediately. It is a very potent antivirulant.

It is impossible to contaminate juice that contains PG with bacteria or viruses.
