TFA Papaya
submitted over 8 years ago by vape_account

Setup: Derringer RDA, Single 7 wrap 26g 3mm Kanthal Clapton @ 1.08 ohms. 42w power, Koh Gen Doh cotton wick.

Testing: TFA Papaya @ 1% 70/30 VG/PG, Steeped 0 days.

Flavor Description: Wow, interesting top notes that almost come off as fermented, yeasty peach. Flavor rounds out to a more typical guava/papaya flavor. Pretty much spot on papaya. It reminds me of a tropical starburst sort of flavor/mouthfeel with a twist of ripe as fuck peach thrown in.

Off-flavors: Typical papaya funk at the end, but if you enjoy papaya you'll enjoy this.

Throat Hit: 1/10

Uses & Pairings: Thinking this could stand up to some boozy or minty pairings. Might play well with Kiwi or Cactus. Maybe a papaya lemonade would work.

Notes:

I'm afraid to push this over 1% as it is a very strong flavor. I could see this being a polarizing flavor with some finding the weird peach notes a turn off. Call me weird, but I kind of enjoy it. As previously mentioned, it does have that papaya musk finish.

Second Opinions: Echoing the musky finish

The reason I actually picked it up was to make this fairly well reviewed Monster Melons clone.

Very strong flavor. Not bad, just very strong, easily overpowering other flavors even at a what looks like a low %. FA Papaya tastes a little better to me and definitely plays nicer with others.

I dare you to spill it on something you can't just throw away, like carpet or furniture.

TFA Papaya has a fuck ton of butyric acid in it. a LOT.

It also contains Acetaldehyde which is the aroma of ripened fruit (or overripened fruit).

Combine the two and spill them and woof. Game over carpet.

Will the carpet stain or what?

It will carry the stench of Papaya for days and daaaays

I haven't tried this specific flavor, but in my experience the fruity part evaporates off first and you're left with the barfy butyric smell that lingers for days.

It would make a good air freshener lol. It doesn't smell bad tbh. Just strong as you've said. Monster melons clone calls for 5% 😶

Yeah...not sure I am going to follow that 5% as I have a feeling my dripper would become a papaya only dripper after the first session.

I'm thinking 2.0% is plenty.

Lol I have had a bottle mixed that followed the 5/5/5 recipe. It's been sitting in the cupboard for a few months now. I've never touched it. Ur prob right @ around 2%

Hahaha, yeah definitely going to be careful as fuck with this flavoring.

Will look into FA's version as I actually enjoy papaya as a single flavor.

I agree that Papaya is a powerful one. I have had really good luck pairing it with honeydew and/or pineapple in the past. Depending on the application: a 2/1/1 ratio of honeydew/papaya/pineapple makes for a great tropical base to expand upon.

Interesting...will definitely give this a go. Any recommendations on Pineapple? I currently have INW but am looking at Golden Pineapple for next order.

I don't get any of the foul properties that some experience so I've never progressed beyond TFA pineapple (although I should). I know there's probably better out there but I've only used it in mixes at low %s as a compliment and it's worked for my purposes. After some visits to the flavor reviews: I too need to try out INW golden pineapple and hangsen's as well.

An example of my use for it:

  • TFA Honeydew @ 3%
  • TFA Pineapple @ 1%
  • TFA Papaya @ 1%
  • TFA Watermelon @ 1.5%

The recipe above is not for those timid of honeydew (I LOVE me some honeydew). It is definitely more on the artificial side of tastes, but it was good to my (then) recovering tastebuds and haven't tried it in awhile....I should make some more to see where it stands a year and a half later. Also, It doesn't follow the 2/1/1 ratio strictly but gives a general starting range

If it ain't broke why fix it (with regards to not trying other pineapples)? I like INW Pineapple, but it can be a bit much at times (i.e. dry). Golden Pineapple should be a worthwhile pick up from what I've read.

I might drop the honeydew down a bit as I could see that mix being a bit too strong for my liking. Thanks again for the recipe!

I have recently been digging the hell out of this flavor. Check my recipe: In a Godda Da Vida

I must be one of the few that really enjoy the musky rind flavor that TFA Papya, TFA Key Lime (in minuscule amounts), and TFA Jackfruit have. I find myself adding them to tons of mixes to get that earthy/musky flavor. A few of our juices have these 3 flavors in them and they are extremely polarizing. Some people detect the muskiness as a metallic/tin or BO type taste unfortunately.

I had good luck pairing TFA Papya with FW Tangerine, FW Ruby Red Grapefruit, TFA Lychee (zomg, so good as an enhancer with this!), and Cap Sweet Mango.

FWIW despite having tons of butyric acid in it I do not have the same issues I have with other BA heavy flavors.

I really enjoyed it, but wanted to express clearly that it does contain that muskiness in case someone else doesn't enjoy that type of flavor.

I was actually eyeing the FW Ruby Red Grapefuit...will definitely be picking it up soon.

Thanks for the rec!

This is my favorite recipe using Jackfruit and FW Ruby Red. This is one of my ADVs.

That sounds like a fun combination to play with: Sweet Mango and Papaya. I really enjoy that mango paired with sweet guava (and a touch of dragonfruit) so papaya seems like it would also be a natural fit

It just leaves a poo aftertaste for me, man. I prefer to use FA.
