Need to add seltzer like fizz to a mix.
submitted over 8 years ago by eggcream

Looking for a flavour/compound that will add fizz to a recipe, but a flavourless kind like in a seltzer.

Good luck! I don't think it exists. Been hoping someone would release an "effervescence" flavor for about 2 years. If you do come across something pls let me know. Closest you're going to get IME Is something that has flavor and the effervescence is underwhelming.

I literally just ordered some RF Soda Base. /u/exclusivegirl turned me onto it. RF is claiming that it's exactly that, an effervescence additive. I think it's vg flavor, so it'll take forever to steep but I'll be trying it out and reviewing it in a couple of weeks.

Should have picked up some RF Fried Chicken and RF Sriracha while you were at it. I've a feeling you're going to be needing those soon enough.

I just ordered off gremlin. I had the fried chicken in there, but from setting my cart up yesterday to ordering today the fried chicken had sold out.

in addition to fried chicken i picked up soda base.

initial thoughts: I don't really know what to say about it, I can't place the exact taste. my taste buds may be garbage. There's definitely something.. soda-y to it with no steep. almost like a stale lemon lime soda.. it almost reminds me of cream soda. there is a light tingle on my tongue.

dunno what else to add, it'll definitely add a soda-like quality to a mix. 5% might be too light for testing.

E: a few minutes after stopping all I can taste is stale club soda. stale is a theme here.

wotofo ice .25Ω 25w and 60w. sigelei 213+. 5%, 80/20.

I'll be watching for that one! Hope it is. RF just said today that they are merging all flavors to the SC Wooooo Hooooo! Said it's going to take some time and a few tweaks.

u/ConcreteRiver made a post over on r/mixersclub about it [right here] (https://www.reddit.com/r/mixersclub/comments/5967g8/effervescence_and_you_wip/).

You tryna make an egg cream recipe?

Heh. Came here to ask that, too!

An egg cream vape would be pretty bitchin' though.

How'd you guys deduce that one.. lol. Yea I'm new to the mixing game but feel like it's a fitting recipe to get to work on. Hopefully I can add something to the community if I figure it out. I haven't really seen one.

>contains neither eggs nor cream

Hmm... Go figure. That does sound right tasty though

This exists but I feel like it'd just be heavy and sweet, not that carbonated vanilla milkshake you get from a real egg cream. http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/320743/Vanilla%20Egg%20Cream%203mg%2050/50

I prefer an aged fromunda, actually.

Distilled lime Tahiti adds a nice bubbly mouthfeel.

Yes it does! But not without bringing along a bunch of lime so it only works with citrusy fizzy stuff. If /u/eggcream wants to make an egg cream recipe, FA Lime Distilled would destroy that.

That it would, unfortunately I don't know of a "seltzer" flavor.

I've had some luck with CAP Cola and TFA Cola Soda. Both of these add somewhat of a fizzy flavour. However they both have their own flavour and while it's not that strong, it will probably affect the egg cream profile you are going for. Also, they do both seem to give quite a harsh throat hit if you use much more than a few % of each

I use around 3 % TFA Champagne and it gives a good fizzy feel to my soda mixes.

3% has been the conventional wisdom on this, but I get much better fizzy results with just 1%.

by andrews89over 8 years ago

I started there but for some reason 3% just worked better for me. 1-2% gave me next to nothing - it was hard to notice it.

What kind of soda mix do you use it in? I am looking to get something similar to a sprite. I see so many mixed reviews on tfa champagne. I wonder if those who have captured the fizzyness from it are using it with a citrus to aid in it, verses those who use it for a darker soda like Dr Pepper or root beer. I have a ridiculous list of flavors I want to order, I would like to limit it to the ones that have the best potential for the outcome I am looking for, at least to start with.

2% Champagne by TFA is your best bet.

Haven't tasted anything ever that I would describe as "fizzy", but if you want the sort of metallic flavor that carbonation has, I've had decent luck getting that with boysenberry (any brand, so far, oddly). 5-10%, which, by itself, is too much, and kinda gross (it might actually taste like seltzer, I've never been a fan, and wouldn't identify it as such) but as a "carbonation proxy" taste, seems to work...

Weird! I wonder why we have opposite results. Taste is subjective, but so is fizz?
