Types of food that use vaping PG/VG?
submitted over 8 years ago by struggling_business

Trying to get into vaping but unluckily where I am (Kenya) the vaping market is almost nonexistent. I can import e-liquids and PG/VG from the USA/UK but it comes with huge costs, otherwise there is no real source for me to get them. So i was thinking my best shot would be to hit up food manufacturers and ask them if they would be willing to sell me some at a price, and pay the premium for importing flavour concentrates and nicotine from abroad.

So my question is are there any foods which contain the type of PG and VG that are used for vaping? Like for example are those that are used in some ice-creams suitable for e-liquid?

Glycerin is a skin care product that should be available in any drug store.

They can usually order propylene glycol for you if they don't have it in stock.

Also in skin care/makeup isle, they usually carry japanese cotton pads.

Thanks, i'll take a look. I was under the impression that Vegetable Glycerin was an umbrella term for various related liquids, some ingestible and some not. Is all VG and PG, even the stuff they add to solvents, the same thing?

"VG" is only used in the vaping industry because some hipster thought it was a good idea to emphasis that it's vegetable.

The real name of what you want is "USP Glycerin", as far as I know there is no animal glycerin being produced anywhere nowadays.

Tallow-based glycerol is still a thing, it's just much less common. I would imagine it's more common in the region he's in than it is in the US. Also, USP is a US grade, and likely won't be obtainable in Kenya.

VG is also used in Horse Care, you might find a distributer similar to 'HorsePower'.

Your best bet to stay healthy is to import your flavoring concentrates. Even here in America we import flavorings from certain foreign companies. The flavoring manufactures listed in this sub have been checked and are mostly safe to use. Glycerin (VG) can be sourced locally, but should be 99% pure or better, usually it comes with a USP grade. Be careful because there are lower grades of glycerine out there that should not be used. Good luck!

might be cheaper for you to buy from some of the south African sites from a shipping perspective.

Soap-makers, local labs, etc. may have VG. I know there are tractor supply stores that carry Bulk PG for sale here. You can also find VG at Walmart and most drug stores.

As far as flavorings go, just make sure you stay away from anything with colorings or that contain sugars etc. Bakery or candy supply store might be a good place to source some safe flavorings to use, just make sure you do your research on the ingredients you're purchasing so you know they're safe to use.

Propylene glycol is used in veterinary medicine as an oral treatment for hyperketonaemia in ruminants.

I got that line from WikiPedia. Anyhow, the practical upshot is that you ought to be able to source PG from farm supply stores.

Plenty of those around here. I'll look around and hope that they look packaged hygienically.

I don't know how things are in U.s.a. But I advice you to get something you are 100% sure it is safe. For example if I were you I would buy glycerine and propylene glycol from chemco, or another company other vapers have used and are recommending.

United States may suck dick on numerous levels, but we sure are lucky to be able to vape and it not be a total pain in the ass. Good luck to you op I'd ship some shit to you if I had the extra cash

Don't know if getting stuff from South Africa would be any easier/cheaper for you.
this guy has a business/scene going there.
I know from listening to his Podcast that he gets a concentrate "group buy" kind of thing going with some of the listeners/ DIYers there, he may shift some your way.

If nothing else he may be able to offer some good tips, methods, he sounds like a decent bloke.

I am aware of the distance involved. In your situation, If I couldn't get decent PG/VG closer to home I'd probably just bite the bullet and buy PG/VG + bulk concentrates from Inawera / Inawerawinkel

and get it sent the cheap (slow) way.

P.S.
They do PG/VG in up to 5L bottles.

It's actually a lot easier to find consumer goods freight forwarders from the US/UK than the SA. A bulk buy with some other africans to help cut down costs might be a real good idea and he might help me out with shipping connects. I'll look into this.

Ice cream generally has PG in it. It IS legitimately anti-freeze, but it's a safe kind that ends up in a lot of food.

Though vegetable glycerine should be absolutely everywhere for purchase I think. Isn't there a ton of uses for it? Do you have any chemical supply stores in Kenya?

Why don't you try contact some stores in South Africa and ask if they can ship to you? Sir Vape is a pretty good store and they sell PG/VG, Nicotine and flavours.
