Well I got all my stuff in and made my first batch of DIY up. So far so good, none of them taste like ass, some have some off notes, but they need to steep still so that's expected. using Carolina Xtracts nic, I broke my nic down into 30ml brown boston rounds, 3 in the freezer 1 for working. I wore some nitrile gloves while making the juice, and breaking down the nic. Using a 3ml syringe with a 14ga dispensing tip for nic. Used the big condiment bottles for my PG and VG, worked great. Using the AWS LB-501 scale, it was off a little bit when i got it so i calibrated it, after that everything was smooth.

Sounds like everything went great! Just a few things, steeping sucks but in the more complex recipes it's 100% necessary. If you can start to mix for two weeks ahead, it won't always happen like that so having a few shake and vape recipes is good. Other than that you're looking good! Welcome to the rabbit hole, the only thing your missing is more flavors. Happy mixing!
Ya I went ahead and mixed some more up, 6 of the simpler one's that people in the reviews were saying don't need much steep (2-3 days) and 6 of the one's that require more steep. That way I can vape on the short steep juice while I wait for the others. On a side note, I need to order more VG already, thought a quart would last a little while, I mean I have half left, but going to order a gallon just to be safe. Used hardly any PG, that quart should last a while.
I'm really hoping that this might be the place to ask-here goes:
Started DIY'ing my juice this month-followed all the pointers, mixing by weight, following recipes from here and ELR. I got some more flavors to try(damn, that rabbit hole runs DEEP!) and went to ELR to add the flavors to my stash and maybe whip up a l'il supthin-sumpthin, but ELR is doing the herky-jerky. Pages take forever to load, and most times they crash. I'm running Chrome(Both OS and browser) with Adblock and Avast disabled for ELR. Is anyone else having issues trying to get pages to load? I really like the calculator, but if I can't keep the pages from crashing I'm not sure how I'll go about mixing..

Would you happen to have a "Computers for Dummies" or ELI5 version of that statement? I know just enough to brick a Windows box...
Long story short, way waaaaaaaaaaay back in the day before DNS to find a computer easier on a network it would have a host name, precursor to URL. Instead of having to memorize a bunch of ip addresses you would put the computers host name and ip address into your host file.
Now, most people don't use it for anything but if you put a site's domain name and set it to resolved it to 127.0.0.1 which without getting too detailed the computer reads it as your ip address and will be unable to find it.
Basically It can be used as the most simple firewall blacklist.
I just started, but I only use ELR for finding recipes. I use diy ejuice calculator to do my mixing. It allows you to save all your recipes, and more. It keeps track of your flavors, and how much you have left. It also keeps track of steeping, so if i make a recipe that needs a two week steep, it adds it to the steep list. Interesting...I had been trying to open multiple pages when the shenanigans first started, and had thought that I was perhaps over-taxing the servers(That's a thing, right? Kind of like a ddos attack, but unintentional and not nearly as big).So, I then started opening page by page and it was still hanging/crashing/causing Chrome to ask if it should kill the page. I'm currently looking into setting up a hostfile for all of the odd page requests that I've been seeing scroll on the bottom left of the screen. Someone else linked to a hostfile extension/addon for Chrome, but reading the reviews gave me a good bit of pause, so I'm looking into other ways.

If you enjoy melon based juices I highly recommend adding INW Melon to your purchase. It plays nicely with many of the flavors you are already getting. Just my two cents.
Edit: Maybe some koolada as well...it can really refresh your palate and add some interest to juices you might be bored with.

No problem at all. I bought it randomly during a monthly bull city flavors splurge and have really enjoyed it as a stand alone flavor.
The Flavor Apprentice makes Koolada. Use sparingly like 1 drop per 10 mL of mix and go from there. Some folks like it in the background while others like the icey blast 3-4 drops per 10 mL brings.

I bought the Lb-501 scale that was recommended. I noticed though that when I use the calibration weights it will calibrate to 400g and then after it is calibrated and I weigh each weight individually to check if they are at 200g, one weighs slightly more than 200g and one weighs slightly less. Are they supposed to do this or should they both be reading 200g?
Your weights are not precision, and not intended to be. This isn't a postal or trade scale, it's a consumer scale.
The weights you have represent "your" 400g. They let you calibrate your equipment, for your use and may not (will not) agree with anyone else on the planet - but WILL allow you to make consistent batches within your private universe.
So, although neither of those weights is 200g, together they are "your" 400g - and accurate for your purposes.

Please don't berate and humiliate them, being a dick to noobs is not cool, despite what some people seem to think. Unless you can do it in a way that's both instructive and amusing and not too abrasive or worse, just plain mean.
Do politely redirect them to the right thread if you feel so inclined, but if not, just hit the report button, tell me why you're hitting the report button, and then downvote and move on. The post will be removed promptly if it's actually breaking a rule and although it's unfortunate that you burned your eyeballs or lost some IQ points by reading it, the sub will be kept cleaner for search results and you'll be doing the community a favor by saving others from having to see it and getting their underpants tangled up over it.
I wish moderators would delete the "hello we think this is a post in the wrong place" automod posts that get posted on threads that shouldn't get them.
And be a bit harder on locking threads that are dead-on "new mixer" question threads, even if they have good discussion. That discussion should be redirected to the right place.

Hey guys, super newb question. I have chosen ecigxpress as a vendor and they have pre-mixed VG/PG/Nic bases. I chose the 70/30 @ 12mg Nic.
I then chose a handful of 10ml flavor concentrates.
I assume that since the base is already pre-mixed, I just need to combine the flavor and base into a bottle. So if I wanted to shoot for say 10mg/ml e-juice, give or take, in a 15ml bottle, how much flavor concentrate should I add to the 15ml bottle? Can I expect the flavor to come through well enough at that mixture? (i.e., would it be too little flavor concentrate given the 12mg/ml base if shooting for 9-10mg/ml final product?)
I hope that makes sense.
EDIT: I looked at the "My first mix thread" and can certainly do napkin math for the resulting end e-juice, I just am wondering if in anyone's opinion the flavor would be "acceptable." (Subjective I know, but I don't want to mix and then end up w/ either a ejuice w/ a good nic content but barely noticeable flavor, or a very noticeable flavor but too far diluted nic content).
Did you have a recipe in mind when picking out the flavors or are they "random" in some sense? The amount of flavor you'll need will vary so the final concentration of nicotine will vary as well. You'll still want to use one of the calculators in the sidebar to mix, instead of doing it on a napkin. It has the added benefit of saving your recipe so that you can make small adjustments to get it where you want it.
Saving is useful. Keeping it basic at first, got the ripe strawberry and cheesecake tfa, also a black cherry and cola, circus cotton candy, bubblegum, etc. 10ml bottles of all but the ripe berry.
Guess what Im looking for is how many ml of flavor do i need to use to get a "strong" flavor. And I assume you mean it will vary by flavor, so its pretty much trial by error?
Well taste being subjective means it will always be trial by error to some degree. But if you want a good starting place look on ATF & ELR to see what the average % is for those flavors. It will, at the very least, give you somewhere to start.
In the not to distant future you will find yourself wanting to move away from the premixed base idea. It will allow you a lot more customization at a fraction of the price.
Please tell me the cheesecake you're referring to is TFA Cheesecake (graham crust) and not just plain ol' nasty AF Cheesecake.
So this is more of a comment for new mixers idk if I should make a thread or not.
I ordered my first batch of nicotine from Nicotine River. It was a but yellow but I used it anyways. I used about 8mls of 100mg/ml and finally decided to contact them. They sent me a new bottle no questions asked.
This second bottle was also degraded heavily, probably worse than the first. I contacted them and included pics. They sent another one.
This third one I am hoping I get a clear, non-asshole smelling bottle of nicotine. Nope also degraded.
Upon reading the lot number, each bottle they sent me was from the SAME lot. Why would they send me 3 bottles from the same lot? Clearly it's degraded from the first two.
I went with them because it was my first order and I thought I would be wasting a lot making my nasty juice. Now the only reason my juice is nasty is because the nicotine. Pay the extra cash and get CXT please for your own sake.
I don't want to make a post because the customer service was good I mean they literally asked no questions and just sent me new ones, but the customer service doesn't mean much if you have shit quality control and product.
Just to offer a second opinion I've bought nic from them a few times and it was clear and flavorless. I still have some in the freezer and it's still as clear as the day I got it.
But you're absolutely right, sending out the same bad batch multiple times is ridiculous and a waste of everyone's time.
Glad they're at least getting some right. I really didn't want to post this because they had great customer service but I feel it needed to be.
It's definitely a valid complaint. I would express to them that you'd like some sort of credit or refund rather than another bottle of shitty nic. Hopefully they can be accommodating, considering how much of an inconvenience the experience has been.
I could use some help as a reviewer that is well regarded by many in the UK has just released a video reviewing one of those vendor e-liquid mixing "kits." conc/pg/vg in one bottle, nic in another.
He has commented a lot of things in the video that are erroneous and is deleting comments from people who are mentioning them. Normally I wouldn't care, but misinformation even about little things is important in a vaping world where more and more people will be shifting towards DIY.
If you have any ideas for how I can go about mentioning it in a way that won't get his back up I'd appreciate it as he gets incredibly sensitive w/regards to criticism.

without know what he's said that you find wrong we can't really guide you. regardless if he's deleting comments there's probably not much you can do to change his mind that he may be wrong. what's he saying that you disagree with?
The main thing is that the supplied nic he has is what changed the juice's colour. This is a problem as it could lead new mixers to assume they're doing something wrong, when we all know juices change colour regardless of whether nicotine is used.
The other is that you don't need to check your nicotine even if it's discoloured. Naturally this is a problem as oxidised nicotine not only tastes bad, but it's not a cheap purchase and should be checked before use.
so after watching the videos i think it's a little bit of everyones right and everyones wrong.
first of all, that nic was super fucking oxidised. if that had shown up at my house i would have been on the phone to my vendor.
secondly, juice changes color moreso to flavors used but nic will also change the color. if you start with dark colored flavors, your mix will continue to darken with age. if you start with clear flavors it will mostly stay clear but it will start to darken as your nic oxidizes, especially if you're using so-so quality nic.
however all that being said, color isn't the be all end all of nic quality. i've got some 5 month old crystal clear 6mg nic that's been sitting out since i got from a supplier that was harsh from jump.
after reading the comments, you're not going to change his mind.

as to point 2. titrating won't tell you how oxidised your nic is just the mg/ml strength is. ideally everyone SHOULD titrate their nic but i'd wager the amount of people in this sub that actually do is going to be a small percent.
Hello. I just tested my nicotine (100mg/ml CXTC) with the Wizard Labs test kit and followed their instructions to a tee twice, but my solution is only ever blue. It never gets anywhere near the greenish-yellow to yellow the instructions mention. Am I doing something wrong here? I won't use it til I can figure this out so I don't die. Thanks for your help of this feeble aged newbie.

adding on, how much acid did you end up using? if my math is correct, which it's known to not always be, it should take approx 6ml of HCL per ml of 100mg/ml nic to bring it to neutral
On the WL instructions it said add 1, 2 or 3 mL of nicotine so I figured I'd try with one mL - since why use more if I don't have to? And then the instructions said use 3mL of acid. So I did all that at first and had blue liquid.
This guys video explained the effect I was looking for so all in all it took me adding 19ml of acid to 3ml's of 100mg/ml nic to get it yellow. Now I just have to figure out how to convert whatever math problem I'm trying to do into some kind of a result and whammo, I'll be golden. Thanks a lot for helping me!
i BELIEVE since you used 3ml of nic you'd divide your total amount of hcl used by 3. compare that with the chart and you have 6.333ml (repeating of course) of hcl which is within the margin of error for 100mg/ml.
i'm fairly sure the numbers i used would only work with 100mg/ml calculations and again, take them with a grain of salt because math is not one of my talents.

Can I ask, my B&M had me dropping the tiniest amount of liquid on my fingernail and licking it. Is this safe? Is it an effective means in the absence of dripping?
How easy will pg vg and nicotine get contaminated? I put what i need in glass bottles and whatever is left over i put back in the original 1 liter bottles. Could this be a problem?
Transfering back and forth is not a great idea, more chances for it to get contaminated. Put your VG and PG into working bottles, if your mixing by weight, condiment bottles work well, something like this. When you run out in your working bottles, wash them out let them dry then refil from your large bottles of VG/PG.
As for Nic, break it down into smaller bottles, 30ml Boston rounds with poly cap work well. Say if you have 120ml of nic, break it down into four bottles, put three in the freezer and use one for your working nic.
Is there a huge difference between the dx and normal TFA flavors?If I use the dx will the recipe be changed a lot of just very slightly?
DX do not have diketones, they use alternative ingredients to emulate the original taste.
Typically they have to steep a lot longer then the normal type. Also a lot of the time they use butyric acid to replace diacetyl (a buttery thickening component) and butyric acid can come off as tasting eggy, yolky, over-milky, sour, or "vomity" in some cases.
For CAP flavorings they have V1 and V2 for flavors to designate which have diketones (acetoin/diacetyl/etc)
Although, I love me some CAP French Vanilla V2 vs CAP French Vanilla V1, TFA DX Bavarian Cream tastes like garbage to me.

This year I have started making my own e juices in an attempt to stop smoking, however every mix I make with any nicotine base seems to be extremely harsh on exhale. I have done some tests to see what the problem might be, and I think it is the nicotine base. So I ordered nicotine base form a vendor with a purity certificate on the website (just one impurity above 0.05% - 0.09% Myosmine), with slightly better yet unacceptable results. I have described the tests below. One lead is the Myosmine impurity that could make it harsh as it is a lung irritant, but its roughly at 0.00045 mg/mL in my mixtures. Any idea's what could solve the problem or an idea where I could get myosmine free nicotine in the UK?

I have tested different nicotine strengths(3mg/mL - 0.5 mg/mL) with various bases (70% vg 30%pg, vg + (10-30%)dw), they were very harsh on exhale, even if the nicotine content drops to 0.5 mg/mL. All nicotine was purchased recently from UK vendors (TPD, so it must be at least 3 months old) and stored in the freezer or fridge upon arrival.
I have tested the base without nicotine, seems alright - very smooth
I have explored the possibility that the nicotine can be too strong for me, but I have tried Drizzle Dream by MoMo and Drip blood both at 3 mg/mL. They were both very smooth. I think one is 8/2 and the other is 7/3 (vg/pg)
I have tried another source of nicotine, at first I had 7.2% nicotine in VG from darkstar, later I ordered some 7.4% nicotine in PG from http://www.cig-eliquid.co.uk, but with the same results although it was significantly smoother than darkstars, it was far from vapeable. (to get 3 mg/mL I dilute the nicotine 24 times e.g. for 10 mL I would need 0.4167 ~ 0.4 mL)
I have explored the option of not having a homogeneous solution of nicotin, so I shaked the hell out of the VG nic base and the PG nic base from different vendors, but vaping it at 1 mg/mL led to the exact same results as before.
I am currently steeping a 30 mL sample of 70/30 @ 3 mg to see if steeping might improve harshness
EDIT: for every test I clean my tank completely, and I tested on about 5 coils now. I use Innokin TC100 with iSub V TC tank with 0.5 SS Ohm stock coils, operated within ranges (45W - 200C which works great for the bases without nic).
Did you try without flavors?
If you have and just didn't specify in your tests, then you could try nicotine salts, as 24mg in salts feels like 6mg freebase.
You could also try lowering wattage; every now and again my hits seem super harsh and lowering wattage remedies it.

I'm about to try DIY for the first time, but it's been a good 8 years or so since the last time I researched DIY e-juice. As I can see a lot has changed since then. With all the regulations coming I figure now is the time to figure this out.
That being said, I vape 10-12ml of cakey/custardy/cookie type juices per day, max VG, 3mg nic. My ADV used to be Gwar Jizmoglobin but I switched to Vape Wild Smurf Cake because the Gwar juices would get this sickly sweet maple syrupy taste to them if I didn't vape them right away.
I'd like to make some DIY dessert juices that are similar, I'd like to use high quality ingredients as quality is much more important to me than price, and optimally I'd like to buy everything I need to start from just 1 or 2 places. It seems like the easiest way would be to get a large quantity of some VG base with nicotine already cut into it, mix my flavors into some PG, then then add that flavored PG to my VG base - am I wrong? Also, sweeteners were not being used much 8 years ago but it seems they are used a lot now, and I'm sure there is some in my Smurf Cake juice. I have no idea what kind of sweeteners are out there and how much to use. Is there some sort of newbie guide that addresses some of these questions I have? Or is there someone who is willing to field a few dozen questions directly from me? Sorry to be a pita.

Here is a great place for top monthly recipes. I'm sure you could find a ton of bakery and custard recipes in those monthly threads.
If you want quality ingredients, you're most likely going to want to buy your pg, vg, and nic separate. I would recommend Liquid Barn's pg and vg along with Carolina Extracts for nicotine. If you want to make it easier you can definitely buy a premixed base.
As for sweeteners, most people will tell you not to rely on them or just not to use them at all. I enjoy sweet juices from time to time. Most sweetener flavors you find on a vendor's website will be 10% sucralose with CAP Super Sweet (20% sucralose) and TFA sweetener (5% sucralose and 5% maltol) being the exceptions. TFA sweetener has never let me down.

I wanted it to be a tasty strawberry dessert vape. I find Strawberry Custards to be sour so I used cheesecake instead. I really like it as is. That said, I am wondering if the Strawberry at 10% is overkill. Any thoughts?
I'd drop your dragon fruit to 1 and your strawripe to 6-8, and maybe drop the Bavarian cream a bit too. But remember, taste is subjective. Mix up your recipe first and see how you like it. See what flavor notes are overbearing or too faint. Then, mix up another couple testers, either sequentially or multiple versions at once. You'll nail it down for sure.
It's funny but I usually mix very low percentages due to using an RDA.
However, there is something to be said about upping the percentages when mixing for tanks. Especially for tanks that use prebuilt coils. This all my own opinion so please take it with a grain of salt.
Been trying to create a Coco Puff cereal recipe with the following 2 to start off with (I have 4 total that I need to try). I've read the Modest Monday Cereal article and trying to go from there. From what I've found on the recipe sites, nothing seems to fit so here I am. Any suggestions would be most appreciated as the ones I have found just don't seem to cut it (or, which is likely, I did not use Dr. Google well enough).
This one came out okay and is vapable, but (and a big but) I did my percentages wrong and too high, comes out more like a super thick hot cocoa
20/80 PG/VG TFA Cocoa Rounds - 7% FA Vienna Cream - 2% TFA Cheesecake (Graham Cracker Crust) - 5% FA Merigue - 1.5% TFA Marshmallow DX - 2% Sweetner - 2%
The next one is a bit better but still not there 20/80 PG/VG TFA Coco Rounds - 4% FA Vienna Cream - 1% TFA Cheesecake (Graham Cracker Crust) - 3% FA Merigue - 0.75% CAP Suger Cookie - 2%
I use a magnetic hot plate to do all my mixing, so steep time is ~2 weeks worth from what I've researched with heat and mixing temps and speeds. Neither tastes good as a shake&vape. I figured it would be better to post here in the new mixer thread. I'm considering Crunch Cereal(FLV) or Cereal 27(CAP) to help as well in my experiments.
Any thoughts/suggestions? Did I make the obvious mistake of missing something on ELR, Dr. Google, etc? Thanks and cheers!
Not too familiar with crunchy cereal profiles but I'm willing to bet some acetyl pyrazine will help with the cereal note.
I contemplated using AP but with use in other recipes goes more yeasty bakery rise on me, which could help, not sure yet. Thanks for the suggestion and onwards to more experiment.
Hmmm, I think incorporating Cereal 27 as a crunch boost would definitely help. I enjoy the flavor it brings when making any type of cereal vape and I usually use it between 0.2% to 0.5%. It also works well as a softer AP substitute.
Let us know how it develops as I would be very interested to try this.
I did all the newb stuff. new scale, 27 flavors from "my first order flavors", excellent nic. made some 15ml this last weekend. One was Mustard Milk, the other was my ego thinking I could freehand a cool strawberry apple watermelon. My freehand was awful, the mustard milk was just ok.
Kinda bummed out my first 2 mixes taste terrible. I'm steeping my expectations for awhile and these 2 flavors.

Question about shaking, how much shaking is enough? I just made my first juice today, it all seemed to turn out well. But I can't find a place that says exactly how much you need to shake. I shook each bottle for 2 minutes each (used a timer to make sure) then after I had finished mixing all the juices I was making went back and shook each one for another minute.
You have to shake it exactly 29 times, up and down(hereby referred to as an oscillation), between 240 and 257 mm oscillations, with a frequency of no more than 5 oscillations per second.
Shake awhile until you can at least visibly see that the mixture is totally uniform and there's lots of bubbles. More bubbles=better. You can never shake too much, but if you shake too little you're going to have nic and flavor hotspots. Be generous, not lazy.
I am getting a lot of trouble with nicotine vendors, they all seem to sell an extremely harsh nicotine base, especially on exhale. I do not get this problem with my premium e-juices though. There is a couple of vendors who receive very high rating for their nicotine at reddit - Supercrital nicotine from Carolina Extracts and Nicotine salts from nude nicotine. Can any-one compare these and shine some light on which one is more smooth?

Indeed, one is Nicotine freebase and the other is some kind of nicotine salt. Can you elaborate on why I would prefer Carolina Extracts over the nicotine salt?
CXTC has a better track record for customer relations and quality control.
However, freebase nicotine is inherently harsher than salts, and I would actually recommend getting Nude's (albeit expensive) Smooth formula nicotine salts.
You can mix juice by measurements correct?What would I need to make small batches of juice by measurements?
You mix by measurements regardless of how you do it, volume or weight. I recommend mixing by weight so you will need the recommended scale in the sidebar, and some plastic pipettes or condiment style caps to pour your VG and PG.
I was asking how you would go by mixing in volume since I'd rather not drop 40$ on a scale.
Can't really seem to find many recipes based after strawberry poky. I have Inw biscuit but it just seems off. Any other ideas on light biscuit type of concentrates? Or a similar recipe that could push me in the right direction.
Try combining INW Biscuit with a little TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust or try JF Biscuit.
I will try that. I have also been trying this without sweetener which may actually help since the poky biscuit has a light sweet brown sugar taste.

So This question is about flavor preference. I mix all my juices with max VG (thinking when I started vaping as a hobby and not as a smoking replacement that i'd like cloud chasing.) and haven't had any issues with flavor. But now it seems like I'm more into taste and making new mixes for an enjoyable vape. Does a 30/70 pg/vg mix really bring out the flavor that much or is it popular just because its more "standard" Thanks in advance for your advice.
70/30 is good starting point. u dont want to go very high otherwise you may feel little bit dry

Many great points made below and I would just like to add that keeping VG high can help "creamy" recipes remain, well, creamy. I find I enjoy 30% PG on most fruit mixes (sometimes upping this to 40% if the flavors aren't too "dry"). Higher PG percentages appear crisper/sharper to my pallet.
It will absolutely make a noticeable difference. When I first started, I was mixing at 90/10 and asking myself why I couldn't taste anything. Dropping from that to 70/30 was pretty eye opening. I never mix VG higher than 80 now, because the flavour is just much more potent and prevalent when you have the added PG in there.

Went totally overboard and bought 4x500ml's of nic. All in amber glass in the freezer so I'm not too worried about shelf life for three of the bottles. Just ran out of my current nic supply and now its time to decide how to decant from these giant bottles into 30ml portions.
Does anyone have any good tips for not ruining my nic? Best practice? I have a 30ml syringe that won't be long enough to reach to the bottom of the bottle. Presumably the best idea would be to put the whole bottle into 30ml's at a time, only exposing it to air once?

I got 2x120ml of nic on my last order. One 120 went directly into the freezer. The other got broke down into 4x30ml bottles. The bottles came with a dropper top, so I started using that to disperse but it was taking forever. So, I placed the tip of the glass dropper straight up and down at the mouth of the bottle and started to pour. As you pour, the liquid should touch the edge of the dropper and run down into your smaller bottle, instead of running down the side of the bottle. Then all but 1 of my 30mls went into the freezer. Hopefully I explained this well enough.
Is there a trick to getting ATF to import a flavor order from BCF or is that feature still not quite functional? I got the dreaded "----- This mail isn't an order confirmation from a vendor I recognize" when forwarding the order confirmation email to the email in my profile.

So take this with a large grain of salt, because I just started like yesterday. But i really like strawberry pocky, so I had a go at it after seeing a post in this thread.
I think I'm too new to really give a good breakdown, I don't really know what to say. But I'll try.
So I know pocky has a really creamy strawberry, with a biscuit cookie type center.
I went with CAP Sugar Cookie @ 1%, INW Biscuit @ 2% and TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust @ 1% for the biscuit cookie part.
Cap Sugar Cookie, I get a buttery sweet flavor from this, INW Biscuit, kind of a short bread flavor, buttery. TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust, cause it was suggested below.
For the creaminess I went with, FLV Cream @ 1%, TFA Sweet Cream @ 2% and TFA Whipped Cream @ 1.5%.
FLV Cream here, because it has a nice mouthfeel, nice and creamy. TFA Sweet Cream, add to the creaminess, I think it will blend well the the FLV Cream. TFA Whipped Cream, creamy, nice texture, kind of "thick".
For the strawberry I went with, FA Strawberry @ 1%, INW Shisha Strawberry @ 2% and TFA Ripe Strawberry @ 4%
I used TFA Ripe Strawberry as the main note, from my understanding it works well with cream, and since I was using a good amount of cream, I wanted to make sure it still came through. I used FA Strawberry for the more earthy flavor, but not too much. I used INW Shisha strawberry as a sort of natural strawberry flavor, I've also read it helps mouth feel.
I added TFA Cotton Candy for mouth feel, and to flatten it out a bit.
I mixed up a 10ml tester, with 3% nic. It's tasting pretty good, not as "cookie biscuit" as I wanted, waiting on the steep. It also could be a bit sweeter. Looking for suggestions, maybe I'm using to much cream?

It will need to steep for about two weeks before you know what you need to do. It might very well steep to perfection.
But if you're just itching to keep working on it, I'd say yes, that's too much cream and too much strawberry. Try eliminating the Sweet Cream or at least dropping it down to 1% and try cutting all of the Strawberry %'s in half.
There's wayyyy too much cream. Try and trim the fat before you start adding things to it. I've tried tackling a strawberry pocky but lost interest after a few iterations. Here was my last attempt at it.

I got inspired to try again after seeing your request. It's good to know we are thinking along the same lines because the first thing I did was grab FW White chocolate. The recipe I have is close, but I need to tweak the percentages and play around with it a little more.

I left it to sit overnight and vaped it the next day. It tastes very much like a strawberry pocky. I get a light strawberry frosting with a delicious biscuit Base. Try it out if you have the flavors for this.
Can I mix Tpa blueberry in plastic bottles, even though the warning on e-liquid recipes says "Has been reported to crack/melt plastic tanks. May be fine to vape with glass or stainless steel tanks." ??

Depends on what you need from the vendor. If you want as close to a one stop shop as you can get, I'd say Nicotine River as they have nearly everything Nic, Flavors, bottles, pipettes, etc. But if you're looking for the largest variety of flavors; BCF is king. If you want the option to purchase 5ml sizes to keep it cheap and plentiful then I would go with Gremlin.
I'm thinking about getting either Carolina or nude NIC. Was gonna go with a bottle site like premium vials for bottles Cuz I'll probably get a lot of glass to start. I'm thinking they will be mainly flavors and vg/pg. Do they all use palm vg? Also I have no experience but usually vape max VG store juice. Should I get some pg or no?
Carolina wins over Nude in quality and service. Glassbottleoutlet beats Premium vials on price. For flavors and VG/PG Nic River wins on price but loses on selection. But they have everything covered for a first order plus some. You can get a gallon of VG from Nic River for .50 more than 1000ml at BCF. I would get at least some PG because you may want to try some recipes at their recommended ratio or at least somewhat less than max VG. There are some incredibly good recipes that use less than 10% flavoring and 90% VG can be a PITA depending on what kind of RTA/Tank you're using.
Can someone please help me understand why my juice is super cloudy? Or direct me to a previous post that explains it. Also, bare with me as I figure this app out, I have never used it before.
My husband and I have been making our juice for almost a year. Most of that time has been spent sampling single flavors. Over the past couple of months we have begun to make various flavor combinations of our own as well as attempt to clone flavors. Recently we have been working to clone illuminati, and have gotten great results, until now. I mistakenly bought TFA pineapple instead of INA. Not only is the taste atrocious in comparison, and accompanied with an even worse shit after taste, but the juice is much darker and extreamly cloudy. I have read that others have had a similar experience with TFA pineapple, but others have not. Is there any kind of explaination to how and why this happens?
One of the components of TFA Pineapple makes juice cloudy. I don't know which one, but I bet someone from /r/Deeper_DIY could tell you off the top of their heads.
I do know that while TFA Pineapple can be a super useful ingredient, if you use it at the same % in place of INW Pineapple and expect the same or similar or even vapable results, you're probably going to have a bad time. Fun fact, TFA Pineapple can also melt some plastics.

That would be the one. It is by far my favorite thing to vape. The blood orange was recently added to the options available at wizard labs. We are still playing around with the recipe though. I haven't had the actual juice since we started to diy, after we made our first batch I went into the local shop to compare our to theirs. I don't know what the issue was, if their sample was old or bad, but it was terrible. Seriously tasted like I licked the bottom of a shoe that had stepped in dog shit.
I'm not sure which app or site my husband used, but he has found a few different recipes for it. I may have one or two of them somewhere on my phone, I have to look. If you do decide to try it out, keep in mind wirh the TFA pineapple a little dab will do you...I still don't know how I feel about it though. I have been told that it is a flavor that will degrade plastic, and that could be the cause of the cloudiness and horrifying aftertaste. To the best of my knowledge, it was not exposed to plastic by us. So...but, the INA pineapple was good, but it didn't have that fresh cut juicy pineapple flavor that TFA had before it went terribly wrong.
So I'm having some throat hit problems even though I'm mixing high VG (70/30, VG/PG). Product is from WizardLabs, Calculator software is eJuiceMeUp. 100mg Nic is PG based, Honeysuckle flavour is PG based. Final product is 10ml at 6mg nic, 70/30 This is what I've tried. Mixed amounts three separate times, double checking and triple checking. Wattage turned up, throat hit... turned down, throat hit... New coils and new wick, you guessed it... different coil setups and wires/sizes/types/etc... Still a throat hit.. And these are bad throat hits, like I'm gagging and coughing like a virgin smoker sucking on a Macanudo. Setup is a Limitless RDTA plus (the 25mm one) and an iPV5. Any help at all is appreciated, I would love to get this sorted out so I can start saving money and stuff haha. EDIT: I've been playing around with my Ohms, wattage, voltage, etc. trying to negate the problem. As it sits, my setup is dual coil, twisted 28g cause that's what I had on hand, 5.5 wraps @ 0.36 Ohms
what brand and percentage are you using the honeysuckle? how long of a steep? have you tried just nic, pg, and vg to see if you still get a harsh throat hit?

20% seems very high for total flavours let alone a single one. Try between 2-6%, starting at the 2%. Steeping is putting the mix away for a few days or weeks depending on flavours used and letting the flavours and carrier (PG/VG) mix (homogenise). This single flavour should be ok just to give a vigorous shake.

So I've been mixing for a short while now and I'm considering switching to mixing by weight instead of volume so I look like less of a drug addict with all my syringes and needles and save some time ripping that needle tip off of all my flavoring bottles.
Is there to an easy way to find the weights of my flavors for accurate calculations or is there some standard weight that seems to work for most flavors?
I can assume for stuff like nic and VG/PG I can just measure 1ml in a syringe and check the weight with a scale but I want to be accurate.

For the sake of simplicity, you can just assume 1 ml = 1 gram for everything except VG. Some concentrates deviate slightly from this but for the vast majority it's accurate enough.
Note that if you use specific gravity to mix up a recipe that was published using 1 ml = 1 g, you'll be slightly off from what the author intended.
Dang, I guess I didn't consider that haha. Most recipes on ELR do seem to have the specific gravity for each ingredient set to 1.00 although I guess you can only tell if it's what the author intended if you know they mix by weight and not volume. That's troublesome.
True, but it's not that important. It's also worth noting that volume changes with temperature, weight does not, but you'll still only be slightly off and hard pressed to tell any difference. That's why 1 g/ml is generally accepted as within acceptable margins.
I just started mixing last month, and I've been using the recipes on ELR as the ingredients are listed both by volume and by weight. If you create an account and build a recipe, it places all of the weights beside each ingredient. Wicked easy to follow, and pretty easy to create recipes as well. I can't imagine trying to mix by volume-by weight makes it much easier to have repeatable results.
Here's Botboy141's excellent guide towards mixing by weight. There you'll find a list of gravities for PG/VG/Nic mixes + some more links for flavor gravities by TFA, CAP and FA.
I can give you an example. Let's say we're mixing up 100ml of God Milk by /u/skiddlzninja with a 75:25 5mg base (1.204 g/ml gravity).

So yeah, it get's better (~14.43% flavor instead of 15%), but still, given how easy it is to put a list of gravities into an excel sheet and have a VLOOKUP done on it automatically, I'd say its a no-brainer in order to maintain accuracy.
Especially if you're working with flavors that have a very high (or very low) gravity, e.g. TPA Honeysuckle with 1.156 g/ml or TPA Black Tea with 0.814 g/ml, we're talking about 15% resp. 18% error you're introducing in your mix regarding the percentage of the individual flavor.
Interesting. So the msds sheets are publicly available then and do contain specific gravities for each flavor. Should be no problem manually entering these values in for each flavor in my list. Even more interestingly enough is that the calculator I use already seems to have the correct VG/PG/nic gravities from botboy141's guide in there.

Has your flavor profile expanded since you went DIY?
mine has. I'm pleased as punch with my one month of DIY. I've mixed over a dozen recipes and have not had one which was disgusting - can't say the same for my commercial juices. Out of a dozen juice I would buy, perhaps 3 would merit a repurchase. Some juices I liked more than others, learned a few thing along the way (e.g. I can only take cinnamon/CDS in VERY small percentages - much less than what most recipes call for), but none were an out and out failure down the drain juice.
most surprising is that my palette has expanded since going DIY. I quit cigs vaping unicorn milk for months straight. after a while I couldn't take anything with strawberries in it. I never really liked fruity vapes. However, just to experiment I mixed Bombies Nana Cream and a few other fruit profile juices. Most of them I really liked. Have you had similar experiences?
I'm a month in as well, but I've only made five flavors so far, four of which were ranging from palatable to "Holy Shit Snacks! I need a gallon of this yesterday!" (OK, maybe not that drastic, but it's a damn tasty vape) I then proceeded to jump head-first into a buying frenzy so that I could whip up six more recipes, and a slew of other potentials that just sound awesome once I figure out the percentages/ingredients. I used to vape four, maybe five solid flavors before I thought of DIY'ing my own juice-I just didn't have the scratch or the desire to try more juices. Now that I'm mixing, I want to try a little bit of everything, barring a couple of flavors that will never see my palate(Artificial banana being the main culprit)
I too bought a bunch of flavors. what tends to happen is you see a recipe, decide you want to make it and then order the flavors. I did that a bunch of times and now have 66 flavors. Of course I have yet to make most of those juices for which I bought the flavors, but I'll get around to them eventually. It almost feels like you have a juice store in your house - you can dial up whatever flavor you want. I vape mostly custards so there is no 5 day turn around like when buying juice on line. I need at least a month steep time on those.
Some flavors I'm going back to again and again so I purchased the 4oz bottles of those. When I purchased commercial juices I would try a whole ton of juices - and ended up giving the vast majority of them away. I never liked fruit vapes - they were too "fruity" for my liking. With DIY I dial back the fruit a bit and up the cream portion a bit.
Last - don't knock the banana vapes. it's never been one of my favorites either but I did mix up two juices that were really good. Bombies Nana Cream (by fizzmustard) and Strawnana Custard (by Ken O'Where). the recipes are easy to find over on ELR. take a look - you never know. I'm neither a fruit nor banana guy but I found both of them REALLY good - after vaping the test bottles both are going to get a 60ml mix.
Banana flavoring causes my digestive system to immediately and violently void itself of anything that might be contained within. I don't know if it's physiological or psychological, but I do know one thing: It's not pretty, it's not pleasant, and I try to avoid it wherever possible. I've tried some (allegedly) superb banana vapes, and they're a definite no-go.(Or rapid-go. Whichever.)
As to fruits, I started really liking them, but then completely burned out on anything fruity after chain-vaping Placid for a solid two months. An order SNAFU had me swimming in that stuff for days! After that-I couldn't go near fruit vapes, until I tried some Prickly Pear from TBD Liquids. That stuff is the bee's knees! I've got about 30 ml left from my last order, and I've ordered up what (I HOPE) I've tasted in the juice in an effort to clone it for myself.

I thought it was pretty good. straight fruit vapes are not typically my profile but for some reason when I mix it myself I find some of them quite good. I usually tweak them a hair. Mustard Milk (REALLY popular mix) for example I add 1 - 2% sweet cream to mellow it out a bit. Bombies is good as is but I'm probably going to add some whip cream or fresh cream to it. It's sweet enough for me but I'd like to mellow out the fruit a little. The beauty of DIY - add or subtract to any recipe to make it more tasty for you.
I am a new mixing-by-weight mixer. I got the good scale, an app on my phone that calculates weight etc. I love the convenience of it!
One small problem - whenever I mix something, I end up with fewer mls than I should. For example, if I'm mixing a 30ml bottle, when I'm done, I have maybe 27 or so mls. This is not a huge deal, but it's frustrating when I'm making smaller bottles for testing.
I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong - I have all of the flavors entered with a weight of 1. I double checked the app had calculated the weights of PG/VG correctly.

Are you sure the mixes are at 27 mls in the bottles? What app are you using? Link to the bottles and a pic of your finished bottle?
Double-check the base and the gravity. 3ml sounds like the difference between a 50:50 base and a VG-only base. I've given an example how much difference it can make below
Are you sure it's not just the normal headspace? Almost all bottles hold a bit more than stated.
I'm sure. I make 4 ml testing bottles when I'm trying a new recipe. I load it into a 3ml tank...and sometimes I barely fill up the tank. There should be a ml left over in the bottle
If this is how you're measuring then it's likely that the tank doesn't have the capacity it states it has. A common occurance.
With bottles and ending up short, are you fully filling the bottles up to the top of the neck? Most bottles give their capacity in terms of not allowing headspace and are a literal capacity of the entire thing.
If you have 50/50 nic base and are making 30ml batches, how the heck do you make juice with recipes in percentages like FA Cola 4% - FA Black Cherry 2%. I've been doing each percentage is 1ml but I can't help thinking something is not right. So 4ml cola 2ml black cherry.
Every time I try to figure it out the juice tastes weak, like crap or caustic. But the ML method seems to work fairly well most of the time unless it's a complex recipe.
4% of 30ml is 1.2ml (30ml * 0.04 = 1.2ml). Percentages in all recipes are given as percentages of the total volume you're making.

Hey all. Just making the venture into diy. Trying to make since of this crazy amount of information. Here's what I've ordered so far. Sample bottle of nicotine from Carolina xtract. Then I ordered 1 gallon of essential depot vg and 1 qt of pg. Now I'm stuck with the task of figuring out flavors.
I've found a few recipes I want to make. The first one is a dole whip juice, my wife is making this request. I pretty much vape fruit flavors myself. Love the bubble gum vapes. I'm having issues making a final choice in flavorings. I have read the top flavors to order so I was wondering what you guys think I should take out, switch, or add to this list.

In this thread you'll find a recipe called Looma. It is supposed to taste like Grape Big League Chew, maybe what you are looking for. And since you like fruits, you may want those flavors in your stash.
I would replace the DXs with regular. I've seen plenty of regrets for picking up those.
CAP: consider swapping watermelon for LA's version. (I swear it's what Charms uses in BlowPops). And start LOW with super sweet, like 1 drop per 10ml, unless you want sickly sweet juice.
TFA Orange Cream, FA Mandarin, FW Blood Orange, all good oranges. Of course each is different, just check flavor reviews here or on BCF.

Any reason why you have DX versions for the first two creams?
most sample bottles cost around $2.50 or so. I wouldn't sweat the first order (unless money is an issue for you). I think you'll find as you find new recipes you want to try that your flavor list is going to grow - and grow quickly. I've been mixing all of one month. My first order was all the flavors needed to mix about 6 recipes I wanted to try - about 24 flavors in all. The number of flavors I now have has almost tripled in one month. I'm a cream/custard/dessert guy and many of the top recipes for my profile use a different custard or cream etc. so the flavors do add up. Also once you see for yourself how tasty DIY juice can be you going to want to try even more recipes - thus more flavors make it into your stash.

I say to that "so what"? You are always going to miss something if for no other reason than you will find some recipe you have to try after you just placed your order. that's the thing with DIY - you just make a second and then a third order etc. Don't sweat your first order at all. buy smart, yes - but understand there are going to be many many more orders down the road. you'll want more of the flavors you find you really like and you'll want new flavors to try out different recipes. I use Gremlin DIY as much as I can - 1) they make my adv (Gremlin VC) so figured I'd try them for my DIY supplies and 2) they have the best customer service and ship FAST. Even if you miss something they could have it to you in a day or two.
read some of the comment to the recipes over at ELR - a common theme is "man I wish I had that flavor" or "I don't have flavor X I wonder if flavor Y will work". Few people have every flavor some have more than others but it seems to me just about everybody buys more flavors.
I mixed my first DIY today!
I did a 5% and 10% of TFA Strawberry Ripe 70vg/30pg in 5ml portions.
I was looking over some of the speedier methods of ~~steeping~~ curing that usually involving adding a temporary source of heat. What I keep finding is a generalization of "just repeat the process till it is done"
I realize flavors for every person are going to be subjective. The question here is. What is a good amount of time to ~~steep~~ cure with these methods starting out? (I really hating using steep it is more of a cure)
Are there signs you look for to know you have cured your juice enough?

I got some "Vanilla Ice Cream" from Liquid Barn and I can honestly say I'm not impressed. Either I have vape tongue from a previous custard or I just can't taste it at all with a 10% mix.
If you want the most natural flavors you'll want to stick to brands like Real Flavors or Medicine Flower. But you really won't be able to get the best flavor out of those brands save for a few specific ones. So it's up to you. Bull City is the vendor if you are in the Eastern US, Gremlindiy for the West, or Ecigexpress for anything you can't find from the others. You'll want to look up well rated recipes and buy flavors based on those you choose.

Being on the eastern coast, BCF is my usual go-to vendor. Their shipping is amazing, even if you go for the normal flat-rate option. Glass one, flavor concentrates are potent and difficult enough to clean out. Also be advised that recipes are done by weight, so you won't be able to recreate a recipe exactly by using volume measurements, but close enough. There is an inaccuracy everyone follows when mixing 1g = 1mL of concentrate.
I mix by volume as well. if you ask me I'd skip the whole cylinder thing all together. I Make my recipe and then add the VG/PG directly to the bottle I'm mixing into with a syringe and a blunt tip needle then add the flavors one by one directly to the bottle using smaller syringes. When you pour your mixes into a beaker you end up losing an amount from the transfer.
Why do you think you can't recreate a recipe by volume its a % of total volume system??? are you saying that all the calculators are off?
Yes, all the calculators are off. They follow that 1g = 1mL. So if you somehow perfectly measured out 1mL of concentrate, depending on the gravity of the concentrate, it would probably weigh like 1.065g. So even if you were perfect with your tubes, you'd be even further off from how the recipe was meant to be.
Has anyone attempted a fried plantain recipe? I just ate some and was thinking it could make a good vape. I do not know of any plantain flavorings though. It's like a banana flavor and also kind of a light sour lemony flavor, but not dominating. Definitely has some brown sugar fried on there as well. If anyone has tried one and can explain it better please do so and if you have any suggestions let me know.

I remember this candy from when I was little. Around 1986 they had some nerds candy. Now nerds were always two flavours to a box, and these were "Hot" and "Cold". Hot was definitely that artificial cinnamon like cinnamon hearts, but I'm having trouble with the cold nerds. I think maybe the were blue raspberry and Koolada. Did they have koolada back then? Does anyone remember that candy and can pick out the flavours? There's this store called Vape Escape that'll mix up the juice for me if I can figure out the recipe. I don't know what Scentsy's marshmallow mint smells like exactly but that's a neat profile you're after. Hopefully someone who does know will help you out but in the meantime, there are a bunch of marshmallows and a bunch of mints. It might even take more than one of each to get it done. You'll probably wind up having to increase the CAP Marshmallow, replace it with another marshmallow flavor, or most likely, add another marshmallow flavor. CAP Butter Cream might come in handy too, might possibly be used to replace part, but not all, of the Vanilla Bean Gelato. But it should be a pretty good start for what you're after.

But somehow when there are some whipped cream or other similare flavors involved i get a bad sour milk taste. Can someone please help me. I had to send so much juice down the toilett because i thought its the juice but now i know its related to some flavors. I tried some by my friend last week and everything was ok so i think its also related to my technic of coiling or wicking?

Every calculator will have the option to mix at 0mg nic. I assume you're looking at recipes on ELR because they all include the nic the creator used but when you go to mix it you'll be able to set the nic to 0mg.
If you look at the recipes on ATF they're just the recipes (flavor percentages only)

For peppermint try TFA Peppermint. My two favorite menthols are FW Extreme Ice and FA Arctic Winter. TFA Spearmint also works quite well in tobaccos

Thanks, but I am looking for something along the lines of flavors that you would never think to add. But, you do becasue it has high levels of a certain compound that will complete a mix that is already awesome, yet it is still missing that one component to make it fucking amazing. Something like adding cactus adds the juiciness to a mix.
I started to read about what certain aroma molecules can add to mixes, and I haven't had much luck finding the chemical make ups for many flavors. I may just not know where to look for them though.

So, I've mixed up the Mother of Dragon's Milk and while it's pretty darn tasty, it seems to be missing that slight bit of a sour note/pucker factor that is in ~~the original~~the TBD Liquids version. How would one go about teasing a sour note out of a juice? Simply adding something like Sour (TPA)? Or would a different yet complimentary fruit flavor be a better way to go?

there's a few sour additives. TPA sour i noticed was pretty strong. I haven't tried MTS Sour wizard but i imagine it's also malic acid.
best course of action is to just try it yourself. make a small 5-10ml batch and start out with 0.5% TFA sour in addition to the others.

My last diy was 70/30 pg/vg and 100vg back in 2010 mainly watermelon bubblegum and menthol.
I am almost out of thesaucela juice and after 300ml I truly realize it uses way too much sweetener.
I love ecblends dragon series which I just spent 50 on a few 30ml bottles. 1 is menthol cool hit all doubled and 6mg at 50/50.
I'm truly unsure where to start. Thinking 2 500ml vg then nic in pg if it allows Ripe strawberry, banana some creams vanilla and blueberry.

you can save quite a bit by not buying the kits but if you're tight on time you'll be fine going that route. Although PG generally lasts forever and you'll be going through VG pretty quickly. I buy it by the gallon and it lasts 2-3 months of daily mixing. (~120ml)

There's also a list of suggested flavors. If you go this route consider buying 5-10ml samples as it's unlikely you'll like every flavor you try. For example, I bought FW Sweet Tarts and found that I don't like it much at all. Tastes more like a smartie than a sweet tart. might be useful as an additive.
also, sweeteners can be pretty useful, I wouldn't write them all off. it's sugar mainly that'll gunk coils, i haven't noticed that problem with ethyl maltol for example.
definitely wait for a scale if you can. even a shitty drug dealer blade scale is better than mixing by volume. plus it's much more consistent.

I'm not going to say that a re-seller can't carry good quality nic. Plenty do. What keeps me away from them is the not knowing where or for how long they have stored it, which is very important to me. I only buy from a formulator.

Your nicotine, fresh, should be clear, flavorless, and have very little smell. I'd get some other stuff if it's unvapable.
Fun fact, old nicotine tends to smell like horse cum. Maybe that's not fun at all. Depends on your tastes I guess.
E: your website says that the purest nicotine has a tint and that clear stuff is bleached chemically. I just so happen to have some CXT coming today, I'll transfer to a working bottle and upload a picture so you can compare.
This is probably a stupid question but it looks like my liquid coagulates. I'm pretty sure it's bubbles as it gathers at the top, but it looks really weird when it happens. I don't know what brand of VG, I'm not using PG other than in the flavors and nic, I want to say nic is from MFS, typically using fruity flavors from TFA, LA, and CAP. Nicotine is clear, VG is clear, flavorings don't have anything floating around in them either.

Anyone know if 2oz bottles from NicRiver will fit in a nail polish holder? Like a shelf thing made for holding nail polish? I need a way to store all my flavorings and right now I have mostly 10ml bottles but I'm about to make a big order and need a way to store them

I have tried that. I guess the HIC FA recipes are just not suited to my tastes. They all taste so weak like that for some reason. Thanks for answering.
