Inawera Custard
submitted over 8 years ago by Boondoc

Setup: OBS Cheetah. 6 wrap 28*2/36ga dual fused claptons @ .25ohm 60-70w. full cotton wicks

Testing: INW Custard 3%. Aged 17 days

Flavor Description: A sweet eggy custard with vanilla backnote. Very creamy and bright. A full flavor but without feeling heavy.

Off-flavors: None

Throat Hit: 1/10

Uses & Pairings: Definite use in custards and other bakery flavors. Feels like it will go well with most berry fruits and possibly citrus. The sweetness would probably pair well with RY4s and other tabaccos.

Notes: I'm not the biggest fan of bakeries but at 3% this makes a great standalone flavor for me. very concentrated so i can see it being used in a mix in the 1.5% to 2% range. Others have suggested a 3 week steep for this but i honestly didn't notice any changes after the first week and a half or so.

Second Opinions: ELR user Sthrnmixer says "Delicious - rivals Capella Vanilla Custard V1 at lower usage percent. Used at 3% is as good as CAP at 8%. Steep time is also less with flavor maturing in 2 weeks. The aroma smells kind of eggy but the flavor at 3% is not. Suspect higher use would bring that out. This will be especially useful when wanting to keep overall flavor percent low yet looking for that rich, complex and/or layered mix." at least used one w/ a bit more complexity). Vapor is thick and smooth."

A Bull City Flavor Reviewer had this to say, "Very nice flan/creme brûlée custard without the burnt sugar crust or any citrus, but with a touch of cookie/biscuit and some light vanilla. Straight-forward, light, and so far it's been easy to mix with.

I used this at 2%, and it took on a slightly chemical taste at higher percentages. Looking forward to seeing how it tastes with a longer steep."

Quick Recipe: Pistachio Lemon Custard (WIP)

Ratio: 70VG/30PG

Steep: 2 weeks

MFG | Flavor | Percentage ---|------|---------- TFA | Pistachio | 3% JF | Lemon Juicy | 2% INW | Custard | 2% FA | Custard | 3%

I used INW custard at what i felt would be the high side of the in a mix usage for the rich eggy flavor. I used a combination of FA Custard and JF Lemon Juicy to add a lemon note to complement the brightness of INW Custard and TFA Pistachio to bring a little bit of nutty darkness to the party.

Overall i like this vape, especially the lemony mixed with custard. in future iterations i think i'm going to drop the Pistachio, after trying several recipes with it i think i'm just not a fan. Also in consideration is adding some FW Butterscotch Ripple at a low percentage to bring some more creamy caramel into play.

Have you tried INW Creme Brulee? Wondering if this would work to strengthen the eggy notes a bit. Not sure if the biscuit notes would interfere though.

Great review btw!

i actually grabbed creme brelee as an impulse when i got the custard but since there was already a review for it i put it in the back of the line. i'll break it out and throw some custard in one batch and see how it works.

thanks. trying to do my part for the sub

so i just got done mixing up a single flavor of creme brulee and a mix of brulee and custard and sweet jesus they go together like peanut butter and jelly. i did brulee at 4% and custard at 2% even at a shake and vape i can tell this is going to be good. i think 2% might be a bit much but i'll wait for the steep to tell. i've got some shisha vanilla coming monday and i think it might make a good addition also.

Thats what Im thinking I never got around to playing wiht INW custard anymore than to say 2% seems like the absolute max.

its way stronger than inw creme brulee.

Shit, that might be just the cure then. I need that perfect Creme Brulee in my life. Sure I could go out and just order me some Brulee and eat it like a normal person but what's the fun of that when I can literally pack it in my pipe and vape it.

do you seriously vape an epipe?! That is so awesome and makes so much sense lol.

2% probably is too much. i think 1% to 1.5% might be better in line.

I can't stand the cap vanilla custard v1, so maybe I'll give this a shot.

honestly, even if you were head over heels about VC1 i'd suggest that you try it.

I have been wondering how well it would mix with a chocolate. I know a little lemon can brighten chocolates up, but is it too much or is it the right flavor that would meld with a chocolate?

the only chocolate i have is tfa white chocolate. i've got inw milk chocolate on the shopping list but it's turn hasn't come up yet.

I didn't care for White Chocolate with a custard at all. The INW milk Chocolate may be good with it, but you are going to need to use a little of it and up the sweetener and em to taste it. I would do about try half of the normal recommendations for chocolate. Maybe 1%

Nice review. This flavor, to me, is close to a straight vanilla pudding. I used it at 1.5-2%. Need to get back around to it.

Does inw custard have diketones?

7 points

by Boondocover 8 years ago

why ask? we make flavors you vape them.

in all seriousness, i don't know. i've read people say that INW says they don't (convoluted huh?), but they've never to the best of my knowledge publicly released MSDS or diketone testing results.

e: basically all that to say, i'm not really qualified to answer that question.

Yeah, I try to avoid diketones just to be on the extra cautious side. I know they don,t release msds so I guess I was asking if based on your experience with tasting flavors, does this have diketones in it. But I understand we can't know for sure.

I haven't been vaping all that long so I'm not any kind of expert but judging by the creaminess and not absurdly long steep time this one might be a flavor to stay away from if you absolutely want to avoid diketones.
