INW Captain Jack For Pipe
submitted over 8 years ago by T_Maceresident tobacco specialist

Specs:

  • percentage used: 3%
  • 18 day steep
  • PG/VG ratio: 50/50
  • vaped on NarDA rda, A1 Kanthal, 24 gauge, spaced coil, 0.74 ohm, 12-18 watts

Flavor Properties:

  • bright
  • light
  • citrus-y
  • slightly sweet
  • medium dryness

Relatable Flavors:

  • mostly citrus notes (like a ripe tangerine but don't get confused, this is not an "orange" flavor, very much still a tobacco)
  • anise on the tail end of the exhale (not a candied black liquorice type, more like Sambuca)
  • grassy Virginia tobacco in the base notes, not strong but ever present

Mouth Feel:

  • light density

Off Flavors:

  • none

Position In A Recipe:

  • personally, I would use this low in the mix to brighten up a leafy base
  • most common application would probably be as a top dressing in pipe tobacco blends

Suggested Percentage:

  • 1-2% for background
  • if you want this in the front, 3-6%

Pairings:

  • dark tobaccos like FLV Red Burley, INW Dark For Pipe, etc
  • would pair well with FLV Native Tobacco or Kentucky if you want to strengthen the spicy notes in those two

Conclusion:

  • This is an aromatic pipe tobacco flavoring. Aromatic tobaccos have what's called "toppings" such as cherry, vanilla, citrus, etc.
  • Use this accordingly to make a medium bodied pipe blend.
  • Not much more to say, if this was a main note in a mix, I would enjoy puffing it for a few hours a day but it's not an adv ingredient for me. However, mixed at very low % in a leafy blend, this could add a bit of character and give some interesting personality to the recipe. I'll definitely be toying with this one.

Just got this one too. I'll have to get my second opinion in here before it's frozen in time. Smell test is pretty promising. Haven't had a for Pipe flavor fail me yet.

Please do!

Ya this one wasn't what I was expecting from a "For Pipe" but still a good flav to have in the tool belt.

Call me crazy, but it sort of tastes like something that is in a smoky BBQ sauce. Maybe like a sort of peppery liquid smoke type of thing. Just a first impression that was dripped on some old cotton. I'll give it a proper taste with fresh wicks in a few.

Ok if you say smoky bbq sauce I'll have to retry mine cuz I don't get that at all. Straight up citrus plus Virginia for me. /u/Rundonkey were you the one who recommeded Captain Jack? If so, please join in on this convo.

By the way, I just mixed up American Politics, Fallen Cold And Dead and Brigade 2506. You make very good notes on most of your recipes. Only thing missing is recommended steep time.. hint hint ;)
