Flavor concentrate companies that still use Diacetyl
submitted over 8 years ago by pyotr_the_cat

Let me come straight from the start. I am not asking this because I want to avoid said concentrates but because I do want to use their flavors. It is known that most companies that used diacetyl in their concentrates no longer do (except maybe trace amounts due to acetoin "catalyzing" into containing minute amounts of diacetyl under very specific circumstances) and have opted out for other diketones instead. If I'm not mistaken FlavorArt never used diketones in the first place and it is considered one of the "cleanest" flavor companies. That being said I am looking for the "dirtiest" ones, the ones that still freely and mindlessly use the scary "D" and all the other tasty stuff. I am quoting TFA's website here " diacetyl, which is no longer being used by many (but not all) flavor manufacturers". So that must mean SOME of them do still use it right?. So does anyone know which ones are the naughty tasty ones or are they all extinct?

Most of the big flavor companies do still use diketones, but they at least specify which flavors do have diketones (and have attempted to make V2 alternatives that are diketone free). Although I don't believe Inawera has released information about their flavors.

Inawera might be changing their stance on that

Yes I know that. Like another user said in this thread it is common knowledge however I don't care about diketones like acetoin or AP (everybody uses those aside from maybe FA) I am looking for flavors containing Diacetyl specifically. TFA and most others say they don't use it anymore doesn't matter if it's DX or not. DIACETYL is removed due to the fear mongering about... what was that thing called again? nachos lung? cheetos liver?

Maybe email a few of the big companies and ask. Could never hurt, and it'd probably help the community as a whole if you decided to disclose said information you get back. I'm pretty sure TFA still uses diacetyl in a large amount of their flavors. They could probably provide you with a list of confirmed flavors containing what you're looking for.

Yes. That's why there are V2 for CAP or DX for TFA. The original versions are still available. That's not exactly hidden knowledge

no TFA does NOT contain diacetyl. I am looking specifically for diacetyl not other diketones

I thought since it was brought to light that there is 750% more diacetyl in cigarettes compared to e-liquid (daily average) and no one ever got "popcorn lung" from smoking that this "problem" is just self perpetuating fear that our community keeps alive to the pleasure of anti-vaping groups. If I'm wrong, provide proof please. I'm not being salty or condescending, I just want everyone in the community on the same page with the right info.

Someone stated a little while ago that the diacetyl in ecigs < cigs testing was done with above ohm setups and doesn't take into account the massive increase in vapor produced by high powered sub ohm setups.

Have there been cases of people getting popcorn lung outside of a popcorn factory?

Not that I'm aware of. I was only stating that while it has been proven that there is much lower levels of diacetyl in ecigs it doesn't account for the larger volume being inhaled by a lot of vapers.

I personally don't like the DX/V2 flavours that I tried and am willing to take the risk. I meant to make the point that you can't say that vaping diacetyl is safe as there hasn't been enough extensive testing done to date.

Popcorn lung is a specific case though, longtime ciggerette smokers get a disease in the lungs with very VERY similar symptoms with a different names, probably caused by the same thing.

It's up in the air if the two are connected, but theres a strong case to say they are.

The diagnose is COPD, not "popcorn lung". So yes, a lot.

Capella came out with version 2 of a lot of their flavors which were diacetyl free, the originals still have diacetyl, like their vanilla custard for example.

I don't think V1 contains diacetyl specifically, only acetoin/AP

You're probably right

Flavorah doesn't add or remove diacetyl but I guess some of the ingredients naturally contain diacetyl so they have concentrates that will contain the dirty ds you're looking for. Also I think FW has a few. Other than that I'm not sure; most of the creams/custards that I've noticed from TFA/CAP say they contain Acetoin and Acetyl Propionyl but not Diacetyl

exactly. Most people think V1 contain diacetyl but they don't they only contain other diketones (AP acetoin like you said). Same with tfa

AP and acetoin contain trace amounts of diacetyl. It's almost certainly nothing to worry about, but if you want to be on the safe side you avoid them.

V2 CVC is garbage... Ecigexpress got my order messed up and sent me a 4oz bottle of it instead of V1, and the entire bottle has been sitting in a pantry for 6 months... I tried one mix and was done with it. Terrible. Useless.

But it's not just the flavor, there's a lung hit or "vapor texture" that I also associate with flavors with diacetyl. Any non-diacetyl flavors with a similar TH bite independent of nicotine? I think TFA Honeydew has a dry bite that adds something to the throat hit, pineapple too.

Loranns and Flavor West still have their flavors containing all sorts of stuff that's no good. Plus other companies still sell the bad(good) stuff, they just offer some alternatives using vomit smell (butyric acid). Flavor Art does indeed use diketones, just not in flavors they market to the vapor industry. Most of their savory flavors contain questionable stuff for vaping. Not that I never wondered what pizza/shellfish vape would be like, but it's probably got no no components.

This has a spreadsheet with TFA flavors that have diacetyl.

Flavor West...if you want to take time to click through each flavor you are interested in, Section 3 of each SDS has the components listed. If you believe them. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6pon5hhbk4aasnu/AAAlb_B4drZ2XyTnwsuf_RtTa/SDS?dl=0

If you want a real mouthful of diacetyl, something that creams up your whole mouth to the point that you can feel it, try this premix:

https://www.twisted-vaping.de/de/twisted-mixed/48-twisted-aroma-unicorn.html

I was sick for 2 days instead of the usual 1 day...be sure to get the V1 not the V2
