So I've always thought that people over estimated the importance of the tank. It's all the same process. Wick, heat, vape.
But today, I tried one of my recipes on a friends beast tank.
I've been using a Griffin, with twisted SS316 pretty much since the Griffin came out.
The juice I had given him was fairly easy. The strawberry ripe, tra crunch berry, and tfa frooty hoops.
I didn't even recognize the recipe.
It was so sweet on his beast. Like craziness.
I even asked him if he had another juice in before loading up the breakfast mix, but he said it was a fresh coil.
There's not a lot to this, but now I understand why people are always saying that you should point out which setup that you're using when you're doing a flavour review.
I use tanks for convenience. I own drippers but never use them. Whenever I vape I am mostly out and about so it only makes since. I wouldn't say I get amazing flavor out of my Serpent Mini 25mm but for a daily driver I like it a lot.
I use a serpent mini as daily driver and really like it. Comparing to my old Kangers, mini and toptank, flavours are way more pronounced in the Serpent. I also use a dripper when tasting new DIY recipes, as a kind of reference for taste.
The trick is finding the right coil for the right tank. There are so many variables affecting flavour that it's best to just find the tank you like using and building a wide variation of coils until you find something that works best. Kanthal, SS316, Clapton, Fused, Flattened Kanthal, whatever you enjoy the most. Once you've done that you can test flavours. There's no point going with a "5 wraps 26g Kanthal around 3mm" when that's not a coil you enjoy. Ignore suggestions of builds for tasting a flavour as much as you would a suggestion of vaping dog doops from someone else. It's entirely subjective and is the thing you really need to nail down. Coil building affects taste, temperature, heat flux and wicking capability as does the choice of wicking material.
TL;DR: Tank or coil doesn't matter. Find one you're comfortable using and learn to build the right coil for yourself in it.
I keep a Kayfun 5 (RTA), a Pharaoh (RDA) and TFV8 (RBA) handy at all times just for situations like this. Even then, there are still so many permutations such as coil builds, wicking techniques, temperature, etc that could affect the flavor. Play around and see what works for you.
Is your K5 a clone or OEM? I have an SXK clone and while I do like it, I've been curious about others' experiences with the flavor, specifically with flavor muting. Flavor can be good, but not nearly as representative of the flavor when using my Serpent mini or various RDAs -- I go back and forth with it and have taken mostly to using it mostly with stronger mixes where flavor isn't affected much, but even then, it's still not the same... I've heard rumblings that the flavor muting isn't just me, just curious about your experience...
edit: I came across a couple of reviews at one point suggesting coil placement on the deck (higher or lower) can affect throat hit (iirc), but no one's ever said anything about flavor quality that I recall; I have yet to try experimenting in that respect, though.
I use an authentic Kayfun 5. Money well spent IMO. The flavour is good but it's catered more towards MTL (mouth to lung). The draw is also incredibly tight so it's not for everyone. I definitely taste a lot of the nuances as opposed to using a typical RTA. On that note, you can't compare the flavours you get from an RDA with an RTA. RDAs typically blow RTAs out of the water when it comes to flavor.
Is this also true if you are using an RTA as a dripper? I have an Avocado 24 bottom airflow that I have been using for testing on. I don't use the tank, just drip on the wick, Would it really be noticeably less flavourful than an RDA...any RDA? I'll soon have a Hadaly and Tsunami 24 clone I suppose I'll find out.
I use a tank when I'm out and drip or use an rdta at home.
I like the flavors from a dripper or genesis style tank, but I have a longer commute and I can't drip and drive. I typically fill up a tank and head out. I've noticed the tanks typically mute flavors a bit, and the different builds I put in them definitely makes a difference.
Tanks get a cooler vape so I don't burn through the juice and get dry hits. Drippers get a more "hot rod" set up. Spice of life and such.

How does a different tank make a ejuice sweeter? That seems strange to me? I own a Mutation XS, Serpent Mini and a Griffin 25 TA. The only differences i experience between those 3 atties is the temperature of the vapor while using the same wattage and the ability to distinguish layers better and also pick up some notes i dont taste on the other atties.
different air flows can change flavor perception as well as the heat can actually change the flavor molecules themselves. maybe the material used in the tanks can affect flavor too. sort of how drinking pop out of glass/aluminum changes flavors. other than those variables im not sure how else it would change the vapor
In you saying "beast tank", are you referring to SMOK Baby Beast or the massive Cloud Beast with coils the size of my 1st RDA?

I can vouch that those things are just as good if not better for flavor than most RDAs. Bought some T10 engines on accident for my baby beast and had to order the cloud beast. Best mistake I ever made.
Even the smallest changes in setups can change the flavor of an eliquid. I attempted a clone of a banana vanilla wafer pudding eliquid for someone. I had her try it from my setup which had a much smaller diameter drip tip and she got more of a runty flavor. Then she tried it with my drip tip and she said it was close to spot on. Every tank/rda/rta is different and might take a different coil/tip/airflow setting g to get the flavor you want.
Tanks ? IMO if you're not using a derringer or at least an RDA you're diying wrong :P
