PROLOGUE

So, I'm a strange fellow. I've been going through old monthly recipe threads, databasing them, ranking them, and keeping track of who did what, and who was upvoted, what was popular, what were the trends, things like that.

Honestly only at March of 2014. I can't think of any way to automate it really, but I digress, my point is I'm seeing a lot of people that I don't know who they are. And I have no idea what they might have done for the community. NO CLUE!

They might have had a huge impact and it's really hard to know without experiencing it firsthand, this is a limitation of reddit itself, or reality I guess.

SO, I want a contest. Basically here are the rules:

THE PERSON

  • Nominate One Person Who you think was the MVP of the year
  • This person could have made a really important recipe, a really tasty recipe, hell you might just like their face!
  • This person could be doing something with diy that nobody else is doing and their really good at it, and it's really interesting what their doing. Ex. Savory Vapes, or Green Tea Chocolate Vapes, or Earthy Flowery Vapes
  • This person could be helping the community through amazing amounts of flavor notes, OR amazing amounts of flavor notes for a new company that nobody else would touch
  • This person could be a moderator who is helpful and nice, informative.
  • This person could be organizing and planning out a group of editers/volunteers to create a informative piece for getting new people started and on the right track.
  • This person could be on top of the Weekly New Questions thread jumping on every thread helping every new person like FUCKIN THAT.

Anyways, I have a lot of people I would like to nominate, but heres the rules....

THE RULES

  • Only one nomination per post.
  • You can't nominate yourself.
  • The nomination must be top-level.
  • Each person who is nominated can be nominated multiple times (more quotes).
  • You must describe why you think the nomination should be considered MVP of the year, minimum two sentences, recommend more.
  • Contest ends in two weeks, 02/03/17.

That's it. Please follow these rules and keep it nice.

My nomination is /u/ID10-T. His patience and guidance in helping new mixers can't be matched! Always spot on advice. The guy is everywhere, "new mixer's thread", "suggest a recipe thread", even the ones who don't post in the correct place get gently pointed in the right direction. One of the best mods that I have seen too. Great job!

I would just like third this nomination for the same reasons stated above. u/ID10-T is always available and helpful.

Most certainly one of the nicest fellows on the subreddit. A good moderator, a good motivator, a great person.

Man of the year right there.

3 points

You're just saying that because of the Recipe of the Year nomination and because I agreed to try out that one thing two weeks ago.

by Philosaphuckerover 8 years agoWinner: Best Recipe of 2016 - Grack Juice

Actually, it is because you are the only other person that I know of who has mixed my cactus-pear custard recipe. Oh, and your actions as a muse, motivator, advisor, and being an all around swell dude to pretty much everyone on here.

Waiting for this one! Along with just a few more....

by Tiptup300over 8 years ago

I'm going to nominate someone who is one of the only people who describes and is the master of the earth vapes.

He provides such good detailed information on such Earthy, Flowery, off-genre concentrates that most people wouldn't normally touch. Always giving good little tidbits, how to use them, and how to implement them into normal recipes. And I feel like with things such as the Green Tea Kit Kat being so popular lately.... This sort of information is going to play a big part in 2017.

So here's my nomination for MVP, /u/HocusKrokus

7 points

by HocusKrokusover 8 years agoFrugivore

Wow, I'm really flattered. Thank you very much for your kind words. I've always tried to be involved with the community here and across other platforms as much as possible, though sometimes I find myself stretched top thin to be as detailed as I would like to be. I'm glad to hear that my contributions have been helpful though, and that there's more attention recently to flavorings and ideas that would normally never be considered. Looking forward to an een weirder 2017!

I'd like to nominate /u/thattswhatshesaid. For creating and maintaining the /r/mixersclub with all the hard work that involves showing serious dedication to mixing and bringing mixers together for the purpose of forwarding our collective knowledge and skills. I think that deserves a nomination!

4 points

by thattswhatshesaidover 8 years ago

Aw, thank you so much! The club has been a lot of fun to put together, you guys make it everything it is. Glad I can be of service in some way. The kind words mean so much.

9 points

by skiddlzninjaover 8 years agoThat one moderator. You know, the honey guy.

/u/chrisdvr1 for starting the whole trend of mass single flavor reviews. Without him just saying fuck it and throwing all his notes up here daily, I'm sure we wouldn't have 80% of these flavor reviews.

8 points

by ID10-Tover 8 years ago

I nominate /u/Wh1skeyK1ng . Although ideally he should share such an honor as being named the "Tiptup300 DIY MVP of Year" with /u/ChrisDVR1, /u/CheebaSteeba, and /u/ConcreteRiver for all of the single-flavor reviews they have contributed, I'm choosing Whiskeydick because he was there for the beginning of the flavor reviewvolution AND continues to contribute to it regularly AND spends his time maintaining the flavor review wiki. I was afraid that last one might be a thankless task if I didn't use this opportunity to thank him for it.

3 points

by Chrisdvr1over 8 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

Well you beat me to it. So I will second that nomination

4 points

by wh1skeyk1ngover 8 years agoThanks for reading this flair

Thanks guys, it's a decently time consuming task, but that might be because I read 90% of them pretty thoroughly. It's great information so the trade off is worth it to me.

/u/ID10-T

3 points

by ID10-Tover 8 years ago

Thank you, Chris! It was really either you or him as far as I'm concerned. Maybe should be you for starting it, as per Skiddlz's nomination. But Whiskey's still at it, along with taking the time to archive the five or six incredible-quality reviews per day that ConcreteRiver throws up. Cheebs seems to have made way for several others, but I didn't want anyone to forget how many he did before he slowed down a bit or how good they were. Bottom line: Single-flavor reviewers, you ALL da real MVP.

8 points

by PalefaceVaperover 8 years ago

Nice list. This community wouldn't be the same without everybody already listed, I also don't think it wouldn't be the same without the person Im gonna nominate. u/skiddlzninja the all seeing eye of DIY (hey that rhymes). From posts warning about fructose in flavors, flavor notes\reviews, updating the beginners guide, and my favorite... dropping super simple\easy and delicious recipes that use flavorings most all of us already have laying around.

Why must we single out a specific person? This is a community effort. People sharing tips, ideas, and experiences. Why are we so obsessed with mixer of the year, recipe of the year, MVP of the year, master of disaster, king kock ? I personally would like to nominate FlavorArt and Inawera for making some seriously delicious and concentrated flavorings, and all those who test the flavoring and post flavor notes on them.

I nominate u/enyawreklaw

Say what you will, his svbicc got me to finally kick cigs for good after vaping and smoking for a year and not being able to make the switch. He also got me into thinking about complex recipes and has a lot of good tips for beginners that helped me a lot in the beginning. Wayne ftw.

by CPO_Mendezover 8 years ago

I've only got about 3 ish recipes I use these days. Partially due to lack of flavors. While I find them good, I've seen far better here. But hey maybe I'll make a post with my big 3 just for shits since you said throw in lol.

4 points

by Wayne0over 8 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

Well ..... I got a tough one cuz it's two mixers with a combined offering weekly, that I used to look forward to, just like my first morning piss.

None other than "Modest Monday" featuring our resident artist /u/matthewkocanda and his contributions there.

Edit: The other 'super helpful' name removed as per these rules. Uh huh.

4 points

by ID10-Tover 8 years ago

Mondays haven't been the same without repeatedly refreshing the front page several times just waiting for that Modest Monday post to drop. Still the best podcast in vaping for being both beginner-friendly and fun for all ages, but I sure miss getting that preview/teaser Monday afternoon to prepare/get excited for it.

4 points

by matthewkocandaover 8 years ago

I gotta start helping Josh with that shit. I know y'all want to read our insightful knowledge every Monday. I'll post something fun this Monday for you fucks <3

by Vurveover 8 years agoVurve with the Swurve

In addition to this nomination for /u/matthewkocanda, his ability to bend flavors and come up with uniquely delicious recipes is like none other than I've seen so far.

Even down to the very first recipe he ever posted, Drunken Pears, his style of mixing has intrigued me and I knew there was a lot I could learn from him. The way he used TPA Kentucky Bourbon to create a warm glaze for the pears, paired with FA Cinnamon Ceylon and TPA Brown Sugar. Simply breath taking (literally, since I can't vape peach), and I knew he was going to be great.

2 points

by Tiptup300over 8 years ago

....I'm gonna need you to choose one out of the two....and hopefully get one of the two to nominate the other one.

3 points

by matthewkocandaover 8 years ago

I'm nominating my partner in crime, /u/Vurve , because without him, I'm just the obnoxious asshole that berates people through text posts.

He's actually the brains behind this whole Beginner Blending thing. I'm just the one that keeps things rolling behind the scenes.

3 points

I would appreciate edit. Thanks man!

appreciate much, great many thanks

by Tiptup300over 8 years ago

Since /u/matthewkocanda is nominating /u/Vurve/ , you can go ahead and remove the nomination for /u/Vurve . To avoid confusion and keep consistency. I'd appreciate it.

4 points

by matthewkocandaover 8 years ago

/u/Vurve

Without him, Modest Monday wouldn't exist for you clowns. He does all the real work so you can read cool shit while you shit at work.

He also has become one of the best mixers over the course of the last year. With recipes that have complexity and depth, while still being accessible to most everyone.

by Tiptup300over 8 years ago

My next nomination is /u/EdibleMalfunction . He kicks it all day in the weekly new mixers questions thread and is super helpful all over the place.

He's a really nice guy and he doesn't afraid of anything. Helping new people even when they're really fucking dumb. Like holy shit dude, fucking DUMB ass people sometimes. Good stuff. But he keeps at it.

That's why I'm making my second nomination EdibleMalfunction.

3 points

by mysticrosellover 8 years ago

I would like to nominate the Flavor Wiki. It has been an invaluable resource for me and I'm sure many other mixers. A flavor bible for diy has never been created or maintained anywhere, and if I had this tool when I first started mixing and was endlessly googling looking for flavor reviews that didn't exist then, I would have saved a tremendous amount of time. For me, this is a DIY Flavor Bible, and I'm hoping one day that together we can get the majority of the flavors reviewed and posted.

Agreed and seconded!

1 points

by ID10-Tover 8 years ago

Just so we're all clear, this is 100% /u/Tiptup300's deal, this is not an official /r/DIY_eJuice contest like the Recipe of the Year.

1 points

by mysticrosellover 8 years ago

How can I vote for nominees? I upvoted the posts nominating them, but I'm not sure if that is what to do.

1 points

by Tiptup300over 8 years ago

Upvoting is how you upvote nominees. You can also nominate users, recipes, concentrates, new techniques, groups, subreddits. If you would like. Just to get them in the list.

I'm thinking of this thing as more of a community time capsule, so anything you think of is relevant to now.
