Setup: Geekvape Tsunami 24mm; 7 wrap 24/32awg kanthal claptons @ .32Ω; cotton wicks; 60 W
Testing: The Flavor Apprentice - (Crunchy) Berry Cereal @ 6%; Aged: 1 week
Flavor description: Bright and airy berry mix over a grainy, sugary, almost buttery bit of something crunchy hinting at dry cereal. I wouldn't call it a 1:1 to the actual cereal it mimics, but it is pretty damn close. This flavor also seems to get pretty intense at higher temps.
Off-flavors: Gets a little over-grainy if you go much above 6%, almost like dry cracked corn.
Throat hit: 7/10, it's definitely above average for me
Uses: Start around 2-4%, but it seems much above 6% a little of that corn/grain note starts to comes out. This flavor would be ideal in a cereal recipe or even some bakery type mixes.
Pairings: This flavor begs to be paired with something creamy or milky. A dash or two of your favorite fruit(s) would also help turn it up a notch.
Notes: This isn't a great standalone for me but it does make for a great additive in a recipe. The grainy note tends to be barely noticeable with most dairy/cream additions.
Flavor available at BCV here and is listed as "Crunchy Berry Cereal".
Is this TFA Berry Crunch, renamed?
I believe so. I seem to recall it and similar others going through some name changes.
Do you get a mushroom taste that a lot of people seem to notice?
Lol! As an ex-cigar smoker I've heard of the funkiest comparisons to things that would make you bust out loud, all for burning leaves. It is great to point out a tiny hint of flavor, no matter how subtle, especially with a drastic comparison to really call it out! Doesn't mean everyone will catch that nuance either; we can taste/smell just a few particles per million folks. Pretty amazing actually.
I love using it in a recipe with custards/dairy milk, and also a variation that has brown sugar (breakfast at Toleos clone on ELR), but for me this flavor seems to give me vape tongue after about 2 days of using as ADV. anybody else get that? Ugh so delicious though.
Wayne had this in his Clapton Crunch recipe and used added AP, after mixing it I think it was a bit overkill. After a while it does lose the berry flavor which sucks, but I think some added mixed berry or something might help maintain some of their life over time.
5% TFA berry crunch and a touch (.5-1%) of FW biscuit gets you pretty darn close to a true berry crunch.
Been an ADV for me for a while now.
Stupid simple, stupid delicious.
