I have been ordering a variety of different concentrates and making lots of different, single flavour juice. Lately, I have been considering just buying a 100ml of my two favourites, green apple and bubblegum. Do you constantly experiment with new flavours or do you just make what you know you already like?
I keep a 120 mls full of my two ADV recipes at all times then mix other recipes when I feel like it.
I wish I could even find an ADV but it just hasn't happened. There is nothing I can just keep vaping constantly and be happy with the flavor.
When I say ADV, I just mean those are the two I like to keep a supply of at all times. I normally have multiple mixes I'm vaping. Those 2 are Wayne's PRY4U and Sad Panda Apple-Bacco recipes.
I understand ADV. Like I said I cannot find something I want to make again badly. Maybe this coconut ice cream I made recently, that was awesome. Just a bit too subtle.
I've made that pry4u several times now but after about 3 days it steeps into something terrible. I love it before that though so I just vape it before it can change on me.
Pretty much this. I keep 120mls of ADVs rolling for me and the wife, and fool around with 30mls for experiments/tests.
I'm very similar, I have three 120ml bottles that I stock with ADV and every time I mix, I mix two or three 30mls. But I am considering not getting extra flavours to test with (although some have been tasty) and just getting large quantities of my favorites. Feel like I will be even more cost efficient that way too (talking about being MORE cost efficient in DIY juice...lol)
Everytime I decide to sit down and mix (once to twice a week) I'll make 2-4 50ml bottles of something I already know, I might do small variation (like swap one cream for another, add 1% of something different) then I'll mix 2-3 20ml bottles of something completely random, usually no nic so even if it's not greatest I can plow it through my rda in one day and if it was enjoyable vape I'd tweak it next time I mix. And in same sitting I'll mix 1-2 10ml bottles of single flavour (my rule is if concentrate is dark like tpa pancake, tpa fudge Brownie I'll mix it @2%, other concentrates are mixed between 4-5%)
I have 3 flavors that I keep about 30 mL's of at all times and they serve as ADV's. In addition to those, I have about (15) 10 mL sample bottles steeping/waiting to be tried. I love the experimentation portion of DIY and like the variety it provides. If I find a mix I really enjoy I'll whip up a 30 mL and add it to the ADV rotation.
I make 500ml batches of my ADV about every 2 months. I keep saying I'm going to get around to mixing up some additional flavors, and have tons of supplies on hand, but I can't stay away from my ADV long enough to even vape a tank of something else.
Or you have the juice, but you still would rather just have your favourite. I feel like it would save money two ways as well. Your only using base on a recipe you know you love and you only have to order certain concentrates instead of getting 4-5 different ones and testing
If recipes are well reviewed and sound good, I usually mix 4-5 30ml bottles of different recipes. If I really like it, I'll mix up a 100ml. I have always have a couple of full 100ml bottles lying around. For my own mixes I usually start with 5 or 10 ml. I'm not that good of a mixer anyway.
Right now, I have 4 100ml bottles with my own recipes and about 6 30ml with some fun recipes from ATF and ELR. Plus about 8 samples of (mostly old) new recipes of my own.
Edit: I vape maybe 7 to 15ml a day, so I only mix every other week or so, or if I feel like it. I usually make up a sheet of what to mix and then work on that throughout the week.
But like, how many flavourings do you keep on hand?? I tend to only order like 2-3 30ml of my two ADV concentrate and then like 1-2 10ml bottles of random flavours I may like. I try to keep my order (with base and nic) around $55-$60 but I think some people just load up and have tons of flavouring
Yeah I constantly experiment, according to ELR I have 66 flavors on hand now. Mostly TPA, some CAP, couple FW, couple INW and some FLV in the trash can :-)
All the flavors that are popular I just bought the 10-15ml bottles right away (strawberry, custards, creams, some others). That worked up to a point, so I started buying 1ml samples now, although I can only get them for TPA here in Europe. If a 10ml goes out, I'll just buy a 30ml. If that goes out, I'll buy a 60ml. Currently I have 30ml for Strawberry Ripe and Bavarian Cream.
Im up to about 150 different flavourings at present, mostly in 15ml bottles. I tend to do orders of 100-200 bucks every 3-4 months. I spent about 400 bucks last year on concentrates, VG/PG, and nic.
For my primary concentrates I buy them in .5-1oz bottles. I'll then buy up 5-10 new concentrates in 15-30ml bottles. Evey now and again I've done major flavour buys where I picked up 20-30 new concentrates all in 15ml bottles. DIY is effectively my primary hobby, it supplanted PC gaming.
I only creatively mix 2-3 times a month but I'll generally churn out 3-5 new recipies each time. On top of that I mix up 120-240 mls of my wife's fave mixes.
I never mix anything larger than 30ml. If I like it, I will make another 30ml bottle later and repeat if I feel like it. If I don't like it, I will put it in my pocket on my way out the door and blow through the bottle in my RDTA by the time I get back home from work. I generally keep 10-20 30ml bottles mixed up at varying stages in the aging process because I am always trying something new and working on stuff.
What can you learn by vaping 30ml of something you don't like?
I didn't read what others do so I might be an anomoly here but I have over 60 recipes mixed up in 30mls ATM. When I finish a 30ml I'll replace it with the same. All the bottles are dated so I try and use whatever is the oldest. Everything I vape is steeped about 1.5-2 months or longer. Doing this I never have to worry about my juice not being steeped properly.
I'm not really an ADV kinda person I enjoy having something different constantly. I keep 3 tanks filled with different flavors at a time so I'll pick up diff mods and hit them thru out the day. I get vape tongue too easily so flavors I like lose their touch if I vape it consistently for too long.
I typically make batches of 5-150ml bottles consisting of 3 different kinds of flavors, but that's also mine and my brother's full supply for a while (we both run TFV8 tanks).
At $6 per 30ml bottle of flavoring, I feel like to experiment with a wider variety that I'd need to find a way to offset that cost a bit.
It's still cheaper than buying store juices, but when I make it in large batches it may cost $2/30ml.
What's your adv recipe?
I use the e-liquid-recipes recipe for Unicorn Milk, Funfetti, and Sugar Bear at max VG. Between those 3, I typically can cycle out without getting vaper's tongue and they blend well together if you switch flavors without rewicking/switching coils.
I usually keep a few recipes in 120ml bottles that I cycle out. Meanwhile I constantly make small amounts of experiments and a ton of other peoples recipes. Most are misses (to me) but occasionally something will be great and move to that 120ml constant rotation spot.

DaMomma's Hazelnut Cake Delicious. My fiances favorite, so I've made 120ml of this every two weeks for a year. I make it with CAP Vanilla Cupcake subbed for FW.
Nanner Puddin' (BRC v5) She says it's a Boss Reserve Clone, but I wouldn't know. I only know it's delicious. I also make a version where I sub the FLV Banana with a Banana nut bread and another banana that makes a different but also delicious juice. Probably my favorite at the moment.
I also have a twinkie like, cake thing I currently call a Fried Twinkie that is an original. My fiances pretty much just uses the Hazelnut cake and my fried twinkie.

And for new stuff, I tried to make an original, I tried a ton of Lemon poundcake recipes and gave up. Then I found this one which is by far the best so far and I like it a lot Lemon by the Pound
I usually mix a 120 mL batch of my ADV once a month-ish, and that's pretty much all of my mixing unless I'm trying to make something else. For example, my wife wanted a Mtn Dew vape a while back, so I worked on that for a few months while still making my ADV. Oddly enough, I hate the soda, but the vape tastes pretty good to me. Add in some commissions from friends, and that's pretty much it.
I make 30ml test batches of stuff I want to try and experiment with, and when I find a winner, I make 236ml bottles of it to steep.
That is a very specific number. Any specific reason?
That's what size bottles I have most of. Had a vape shop that did in house mixing go out of biz that was owned by a friend, and I inherited all their stock. lol
I suppose I could fit 240 in there, but then there would be too much liquid and I can't get a proper shake out of the bottle.
I used to keep it limited to 3 or 4 adv and 2 developing recipes at a time but I'm a mess lately. Lol
Sitting on my desk I have 4 adv, 7 different vanilla cupcake bases I've been working on, 6 different recipes from other people I'm trying (to see how their pairings work), and about 50 single flavor testers in various stages of steep.
Jesus. Is this your job?/do you sell it to friends to compensate expense? I mostly mix single flavour blends that I absolutely love. No need for me to make it complicated with various mixes that may/may not be what I want and waste juice. Different strokes for different folks
Nope. Just a hobby. I'm a big foodie so I enjoy the challenges using and learning new ingredients and how they play together. I spend on average and hour of my free time each day to either mix or sample.
Lately I've been playing with lemon and custard to help someone develop their ADV. I have a ton of lemon and citrus flavors and I love bouncing things off people to try. It's like inviting someone over for dinner.
