Inawera (INW) Waffle became hardened and brown at the bottom of the bottle. Is this normal?

Pretty weirded out right now.. I'm hoping I haven't had any contamination in my flavorings. This is the only one that looks like this.

I've only once extracted a bunch of waffle into another bottle to dilute it in PG (one that I can't seem to find). Haven't touched the stuff since. Now it's hardened on the bottom of the original bottle (repackaged by popular flavor vendor) and has sort of a shiny/paint-like looking consistency. The top has a crystalline texture. What do you mixologists think? Is there a component in it that might have changed its consistency? Did I get a bad batch? Has this ever happened with anything else? Thanks for any input.

Heck, I had a few INW flavors from RTS vapes do that to me, they told me they just sat on the shelf too long. (I received them that way)

Yep, pretty much that's what it sounded like.

In all fairness, they did credit my account. If you'd have seen my INW DNB, it wasn't just a "shelf" thing. It has what appears to be coffee grounds or some similar type of contaminants. When someone puts a little note in that say "My name is so-and-so, and I personally inspected your order to garauntee your satisfaction blah blah blah", that's what pisses me off more than the crap in the concentrates.

You couldn't hold that bottle in your hand and not see something is wrong. It sets a bad example, what if a new mixer was shipped that? Hard telling what it actually was....Well, besides 35% of the volume of the friggin bottle.

That's pretty fucking extreme. I would email the vendor. Either way, don't try to revive those, not worth it bro bro.

I don't think that's normal. My INW Waffle is a yellow color, and I've had it for like a year. I have no idea what could have caused that, but it is alarming. That's my favorite flavor, too. I hope someone more knowledgeable chimes in.

Edit: I've never had anything like that happen. My Liquid Amber ate its bottle last month, but that's the only thing remotely similar that's happened to me.. and it isn't even really similar.

Separation is normal, but this is a bit extreme. So just shaking doesn't work to dissolve that hardened stuff? Try putting the bottle in 40°C/100°F water just long enough to warm it up then shake the hell out of it.

I got it back at the end of May this past year. I don't think 7/7.5 months is all that long.. Not enough to solidify in a usually fairly warm room anyway.

I have had CAP Super sweet crystallize a bit and clear up after a good shake, but nothing quite this intense. I would just toss it and order from a different vendor next time.

I'm fairly sure that's vanillin. I had something similar happen with mine so I got a replacement, and the same thing happened again. They were original INW bottles and a brown solid would just build up around the cap like crazy, it never stopped getting bigger until eventually most of the concentrate had evaporated. In your case I guess the crystallized vanillin just stayed inside the bottle.

I ran the solid through the IR at work and it confirmed it was vanillin (or ethyl vanillin, I didn't have the spectra for that to compare).

What's weird to me is that in both our cases the solvent seems to have evaporated and PG shouldn't do that.

Thanks, I'm glad to finally have someone able to relate. This seems the most likely, and eases my worries a bit in terms of potential contamination. Not sure about the evaporation of PG either (maybe an open seal in a hot room?) but I'll keep my eye out for flavors with vanillin components in the future.

I've had it happen with a few flavors. Some just get crusty at the top. One I can remember right now is Cap Vanilla Cupcake, that gets a lot of dried crap on the bottle top. Could be vanillin as well maybe but my bottle os 10% vanillin is fine.

I've had it happen with TFA Bavarian Cream but the INW Waffle really is on a whole other level. The solvent just evaporates or seeps through the bottle idk, after a few months of never using it my bottle was almost empty.

If you ever grab some I'd suggest you dilute it asap, that should help.

I got Waffle as well and it came already leaked through it's packaging and crusted all over the outside. It's also suuuuuuper oily and thin. I don't feel safe vaping it, maybe if I could see some MSDS on it, but I doubt we'll ever see that........it's starting to seem ridiculous to me that that isn't required. Not percentages, but knowing at least WHATS in the things we're using to vape.

BUT HEY according to the FDA I guess they're all just tobacco products anyways! AMIRITE!?
