FW Salted Caramel
submitted over 8 years ago by mlNikon

Setup: Recoil w/ flavor barrel, Dual fused claptons @ .26 ohms. 60 watt

Testing: FW Salted Caramel @ 5%. 1 day steep

Flavor Description: Buttery, rich, soft caramel, almost syrupy like but not quite as sweet. The name is misleading because it has no hint of salt imo but I am not too upset about it because this is a delicious caramel.

Off-flavors: Nothing out of the ordinary here, taste like a rich creamy caramel

Throat Hit: Very easy on the throat, smooth exhale

Uses & Pairings: The sky is the limit to this. It is very versatile, whether you want to add a caramel to creams, custards, coffees or bakeries this is the one I am going to go to first, well, maybe second after fa caramel. I can see it being used in small amounts also to add a dark sweetness to mixes as well.

Notes: This flavor can really hold its own as the only caramel in a mix. I haven't steeped it so I imagine it will only get richer with time. I have only been using fa caramel but am really glad I decided to add this to my last order on a whim it is very tasty. Mouthfeel isn't as thick as it tastes like it should if that makes sense. It is a dense, rich flavor but doesn't "feel" like it. Could use some help in that department.

Second Opinions: Some people get an inherent saltiness from this flavor on elr.

Here is a recipe that uses this flavor as one component of caramel

Please if you have differing opinions leave a comment as I would love to get some other people's take on this flavor. More WF flavor reviews to come.

It's great in combination with alcohol flavours, it's got a taste to it that helps strengthen them. The type of caramel I associate with liquor.

TFA Kentucy Bourbon 4%

FA Jamacian Rhum 2%

FW Salted Caramel 2.5%

INW Vanilla Pipe 4.5%

INW DNB. 0.5%

Yeah it's an awesome flavor but I stopped using it because it's such a coil gunker

How does it compare to FA Caramel?

To me FA Caramel is a richer, darker caramel flavor (doesn't really carry itself as a main note, though). While you don't taste the "salt" per se with this one, it does taste like properly salted caramel, where the sweetness is enhanced in a surprising way.

I'm playing around with a caramel base consisting of this, the FA (my favorite) and FW Caramel Candy. The FA is easily overpowered by the other two, but I think it's shaping up nicely.

It is really close to fa caramel, maybe not quite as rich but pretty near. Those two are my favorite caramels to date.
