So the subject of Taffy has come up here and there, there's a few mainstream juice companies making some Taffy juice lines\flavors. I've seen some so called Taffy recipes online at the usual spots, but none seem to hit the mark. I'm wondering if anyone has come up with some good Taffy mixes or figured out some "go to" flavors that help get close or that you think is definitely in some of these "premium" Taffy juices we see popping up a lot lately.
I have picked up FW Salt Water Taffy, Lorann Salt Water Taffy, and CAP Strawberry Taffy. I've been trying different variations and percentages of the FW & Lorann flavors; combining them as well. I started off with grape, but I don't think the grape I had was cutting it. The CAP Strawberry Taffy tastes a lot like their Sweet Strawberry does, but a bit sweeter with a little something else going on. Not a dead on the nose Taffy by any means. But I've been experimenting with it and the salt water taffy flavors I have. The Lorann version gets real bubbly when shaken alone (makes a ton of foam at the top of the flavor bottle), and it has a slight hint of bubble gum to it which I hear some people taste from the store brand "premium" Taffy juices. I've also been throwing some FA whipped cream in there too to see what happens.
So far I've come up with some nice sweet candy like results, just not Taffy results. So if there's anyone else in here on the hunt for a Taffy juice that has any tips, I'm all ears.
Stop looking for salt water like taste. Go for more mouth feel with a muted fruit taste. I think this is one area where citric acid might benefit you in the long run (steep process).
Citric acid hu... from particular flavors like lemon sicily and whatnot? Or like adding actual lemon juice (thought most stopped doing that due to throat irritation though)?
Get pure citric acid crystals on Amazon. It is used diluted in pg. Search the sub for solutions but generally at 10% in pg. It makes fruit flavors pop in some mixes but it mutes flavors at high percentages and when steeped.
Research research reassessed research.
Citric acid does not add tart flavors to vapes but it does to your vodka soda.
It's kind of strange that taffy has such a unique taste even though it's made with typical things that you'd see in normal hard candy or gummy candy, like sugar, cornstarch, corn syrup, glycerin, artificial flavors and colors. One of the main differences is obviously salt water when you're talking about original old school shop\vendor made taffy (not Laffey Taffy or Airheads style things).
One thing I didn't know until looking up the ingredients recently is that it contains butter as well. So far I haven't tried adding butter, but that might be the ticket I'm missing.
Here's what Google has to say regarding the ingredients in salt water taffy:
"Salt water taffy is composed of sugar, cornstarch, corn syrup, glycerine, water, butter, salt, natural and/or artificial flavor, and food color. Some examples of flavoring include vanilla, lemon, maple, banana, red licorice, watermelon, raspberry or mint extracts."
You can buy Citric acid from many eliquid flavor sites. I got mine from Wizard Labs I believe. I would not recommend using lemon juice and I don't know that a lemon flavoring would cut it either. It's a specific chemical... not really a flavoring in and of itself. Also, you can try adding Saline (seems to be all the rage right now) if you're looking for an authentic Salt water taffy and the FW isn't doing it for you. I have the FW and Capella's you mentioned and didn't care for either of them all that much so you're not alone.
Thanks, I'll have to grab some citric acid on my next order. Not really sure what is does to mixes (always figured it would make it more sour or tart).
What kind of saline solution are people picking up? I've used many before (not in juice), but they were all based around my contact lens use. I'm not fully sure, but I think the ones made for contacts have other additives in it. I'm not sure while looking at the ingredients what I should avoid or be looking for when I choose one.
Quit looking at food ingredients to make vape recipes. Fuck me. If I added everything in the recipe for pancakes to my pancake vape I'd die.
Read the sidebar, search the sub. For salt water taffy (which I eat a lot of) you're looking for a muted top note and a full mouth feel.
Not necessarily, a good exercise is going WAAAAAAAAAAAAY back to seeing how they did it in the olden days.
Like the guy who made the bubblegum recipe. He looked at the ingredients in the first bubblegum and it was like spearment, butter, I dunno, a bunch of weird things, he threw em together and it came out like a dead on bubblegum vape.
You can't go off of todays recipes because most ingredients in todays food are substitutes that last longer on the store shelf. In the olden days you were sell directly in your store after making it.
