Hi.
When I started with DIY for some reason 10% seemed like a good idea so i kept messing about 10-20% with FA fruits seemed ok at the time.
After getting a serpent mini the flavor was spot on the first week or so but has since given me no/muted flavor. Ive tried from 24 up to 28ga, twisted 28 & 26ga, nothing fixed the flavor issue although 28ga twisted seemed like the better coil of the other kanthals.
as for wicking i do super thin half a thumb-size 'scottish roll', Ive experienced dry hits in the past (I dont think my issue is a dry hit, I've also dripped a few drops onto the coil whilst assembled before taking a hit) so I think the wicking part is good to go.
I made a batch yesterday at 7% to get a feel for lower % however the FA billberry gives me a really strong/burning feeling in the throat now.
my diy juice consists of 70vg/30pg
my flavors at hand are:
FA kiwi, billberry, raspberry,banana
INW blueberry.
The inawera blueberry seems just fine at around 1%.
I'd appriciate any input on where to 'start over' for single flavorings. I imagined 7% would've been way to little since I was 'used to' 15-20%
I was planning on getting some new flavorings to try but I'd like to get my general issue solved first with the throat burning sensation & what is too little / too much flavor for standalone DIY.
Cheers.
Cheers! Try those FA flavors again at 2%. It could be something else, but if I had to guess I'd say you're wearing out your olfactory system with too much flavoring. I read this about the 10 to 20% and then 7% and immediately thought of "you're gonna blow out your o-ring, drop a lung"
Also, questions like this are best suited for the weekly New Mixers' Questions thread:

Holy bilberry batman! Anything over 1% bilb tastes rotten. With FA you typically wont need to use more than 4-6% at the most. Majority 0.5-2% in mixes. Olfactory fatigue is really likely here, as is muting of the flavours from too high of used concentrations.
i hear you. I plan to read up more and start carefully at really low percentages and try low amounts like 10ml mixes. I dont really get a throat hit anymore vaping just the 70/30 base so that relieves me knowing its my terrible flavoring mixing and not the base.
That's the thing you can't just take some universal number for a stand alone and always run with it. The stuff I mix for my dad he loves it and it's only a 2% mix but then some stuff I like stand alone at 10-14% just keep experimenting with small 10ml batches until you find what you think works for you.
gotcha. I will start over completely and everytime I get a new flavor i'll do 1-2% & test em. The incredible throat hit went away after i vaped some base only without flavor so it's for sure the flavors cause.
The only thing im confused about atm is when to stop adding flavor vs what seems good to me. "maybe 1% more is better, etc" once you find a good spot.
normally tfa and cap are good to sft at 4 or 5% and fa and inw are good to test at 1-2%, generally though there are exceptions, need to do some research.
